I have always been fascinated by birds. I remember when I was younger, I would spend hours watching them fly and play in the park near my house. I even had a pet bird for a while. But out of all the birds, my favorite has always been the pigeon.

There is something about pigeons that just seems so peaceful and calming . Maybe it’s their soft cooing or the way they gently bob their heads when they walk. With full respect whatever it is, I just find them really fascinating to watch.

Pigeons are also really intelligent birds. They can be trained to do tricks and even deliver messages. I think it’s amazing that such a small bird can be so smart and have such an important job.

I love going to the park and feeding the pigeons . It’s always so enjoyable to watch them eat out of my hand and then fly away. I really hope that I can continue to appreciate these beautiful creatures for many years to come.

If you’ve never had the chance to watch a pigeon up close, I highly recommend it. They really are beautiful creatures.

Conclusion of the Essay on Birds

Birds are interesting creatures that come in stunning shapes, sizes, and colors. It’s no wonder they’ve been the subject of so many poems, songs, and stories throughout history. Birds are one of the most beautiful creatures in the world. Most of them look very beautiful and they can fly above the sky. In this lesson today, you will learn how to write a short essay on your favourite bird.

Short Essay on My Favourite Bird Peacock in 100 Words

There are tens of thousands of birds in the world but my favourite bird is the peacock. A peacock is a beautiful bird. It has a shiny, dark blue neck and a crown on its head. Its tail feathers are colourful and long. During the monsoon season, peacocks spread their feathers and dance gracefully.

Their dance is spectacular and brings joy to those watching. Peacocks are the male birds of their species. The females are called peahen and are less colourful than the males. Peacocks live on the upper branches of tall trees and prefer running to flying. They are quite agile on foot. In India, peacocks have religious and cultural significance. They are the national bird of our country.

Short Essay on My Favourite Bird Parrot in 200 Words

There are many different types of birds in the world. My favourite bird is the parrot. Parrots come in different sizes, shapes, and colours. Some are single-coloured while others have bright, multi-coloured feathers. The colour of their plumage can range from predominantly green with some red to a vibrant mix of red, orange, green, blue, yellow, pink, and black. Some smaller species of parrots can only grow up to ten centimetres while some larger varieties grow up to a hundred centimetres and weigh over a kilogram.

Parrots are omnivores and eat nuts, seeds, berries, fruits, plants, grains as well as small insects. They have a curved beak that helps them split fruits and nuts. These birds are quite intelligent and can mimic human speech. They are very playful and friendly in nature. Parrots usually build their nests in the hollow of trees and lay eggs twice a year. Baby parrots are called chicks and are very cute.

In recent times, due to habitat loss, climate change, and wildlife trade, many types of parrots are becoming endangered. Many people keep parrots as pets in cages for entertainment and do not take good care of them. This needs to be stopped. Parrots are great birds and we should do our best to protect them and take care of them.

Short Essay on My Favourite Bird Cuckoo in 400 Words

I have seen hundreds of different types of birds and observed their unique quirks and I adore them all, but my favourite is the cuckoo. Cuckoos are black in colour and have long tails. They look like crows but are smaller than them. The sound that cuckoos make is very pleasant to listen to and they are quite famous for it as well. Their melodious call fills everyone with joy. Cuckoos live on trees and in bushes. They eat fruits, insects, and worms. They especially like eating caterpillars.

Cuckoos are migratory birds and we often see them during the spring season. Hence, they are called the harbinger of spring. Cuckoos have a peculiar habit. They do not make nests and are infamous for laying eggs in the nests of other birds, usually crows. A female cuckoo can lay eggs in as many as 50 nests during the breeding season.

Cuckoos have evolved to lay eggs that mimic the eggs of crows. This prevents their eggs from being ejected from the nest. The crows mistake the eggs as their own and look after them. Cuckoo chicks hatch and grow up under the care of crows.

In the village, we wake up every day listening to the chirping of different birds and during the spring season, it is beautiful ‘kuhu kuhu’ of the cuckoos that dominate. There are at least ten pairs of cuckoos that live in our orchard and we give them grains and fruits to feed on.

Although they are usually afraid of humans and don’t come too close, I once befriended a cuckoo. It had red eyes and used to come near the windowsill of my room every morning. I fed it grains that I got from my grandmother and also caught a few hairy caterpillars for it. One day, it brought along another cuckoo. Both of them looked quite similar.

I had a great time interacting with the cuckoos in my village orchard and fell in love with them. When the vacation was over, we had to come back and I started missing the cuckoos. I read a lot of articles on these birds and filled my room with posters of these beautiful creatures. After a few months, when we went to visit my grandparents again, it was already winter and the cuckoos had migrated. I never saw my friend again but I still remember its amazing red eyes and melodious voice. Cuckoos have since been my favourite birds.

In the session above, I have written three essays on three different birds. You can choose any of those according to your requirements. I have also tried to write the essays in a very simple language that every student can easily understand. Essay on Birds 200+ Words

Birds are incredible creatures that grace our skies and forests, adding beauty, diversity, and significance to our world. In this essay, we will explore the marvelous world of birds, their importance in our ecosystem, and the fascinating aspects of their lives.

A World of Diversity

Birds come in an astonishing array of shapes, sizes, and colors. From the majestic bald eagle soaring high to the tiny hummingbird flitting about flowers, there’s a bird for every environment. In fact, there are over 10,000 different species of birds worldwide, each with its unique characteristics.

The Power of Flight

One of the most remarkable features of birds is their ability to fly. Their wings allow them to navigate the skies effortlessly. Birds have fascinated scientists for centuries, and their aerodynamic designs have inspired innovations in aviation. Leonardo da Vinci, a brilliant inventor, studied bird flight to create his flying machine designs.

Environmental Indicators

Birds serve as important indicators of the health of our environment. They are highly sensitive to changes in their surroundings. Ornithologists, scientists who study birds, often use bird populations as indicators of environmental changes. A decline in certain bird species can signal problems like pollution or habitat destruction.

Ecosystem Engineers

Birds play vital roles in ecosystems by acting as “ecosystem engineers.” For example, woodpeckers create holes in trees that later become homes for other animals. Birds also help control insect populations by feeding on them. In this way, they help maintain the delicate balance of nature.

Seed Dispersers

Many birds are essential for spreading seeds. When birds eat fruits and then travel to other locations, they help plants spread and grow in new areas. This process, known as seed dispersal, is crucial for the survival of various plant species.

Songbirds and Their Melodies

Songbirds are famous for their melodious tunes. They communicate, find mates, and establish territories through their songs. Ornithologists have discovered that some birds, like the nightingale, have incredibly complex songs, with each note having a specific purpose.

Migration Marvels

Birds embark on incredible journeys during migration. They fly thousands of miles to find food, avoid harsh weather, or breed in suitable areas. For example, the Arctic Tern holds the record for the longest annual migration, traveling from the Arctic to the Antarctic and back.

Birds as Inspirations

Birds have been a source of inspiration for humans throughout history. Their grace and beauty have inspired countless works of art, literature, and poetry. Famous painters like John James Audubon dedicated their lives to depicting the beauty of birds in their natural habitats.

Birds and Biodiversity

Birds are an essential part of Earth’s biodiversity. They contribute to the interconnected web of life, where every species plays a role. When we protect birds and their habitats, we also protect countless other species and the overall health of our planet.

Conclusion of Essay on Birds

In conclusion, birds are more than just creatures that fill our skies and forests. They are diverse, adaptable, and vital to the balance of nature. Birds’ ability to fly, their environmental significance, and their cultural and artistic inspiration make them truly remarkable. It is our responsibility to appreciate, protect, and conserve these feathered marvels and ensure that they continue to enrich our world for generations to come. Birds are not just a part of nature; they are a part of our shared human heritage, reminding us of the wonders of the natural world.

  • My favourite animal is a dog.

  • I have a dog as my pet named Bruno.
  • He is a cute little white Pomeranian.

  • He loves going on walks.

  • I love Bruno a lot.

Many people love cats, so they are the most common pet in today’s household. If your kid has been asked to write a short paragraph on my ‘favourite animal: cat’, this essay will guide you:

For me, my favourite animal is the cat because they are so cute and make adorable pets. Bella is the name of my pet cat, and I love her white and black fur, small paws, tiny claws, and a cute little tail. Bella was a stray cat we adopted when she was just three months old. Bella does not want much attention, but she enjoys being around us. She enjoys all types of fish, and her favourite is tuna. She is either in bed or spends the entire day lying on the couch. Her way of expressing affection is unique.

Dogs are well-known for their loyalty, making them kids’ favourites. This short essay on the topic of my favourite animal dog will help children learn how to write an essay for class 3:

My favourite animal is a dog. Dogs are known for their friendliness and loyalty, and nothing can beat a dog’s devotion to their master. These are furry creatures found in various species, such as German shepherds, Pomeranians, Labradors, and others. Even I have a pet dog whose name is Rocky, and he is a German Shepherd with golden brown fur. He enjoys being around us and is extremely friendly. When I take him for a walk, that is his favourite time of day. He enjoys meeting new people and barks at other dogs he sees in the park. We adopted him when he was five months old and he is now four years old. He tries to keep us safe and never harms us.

Cats are small creatures that humans love. They come in a variety of colours, including white, black, and brown, and their small twinkling eyes make us adore them even more. Cats are known for their dislike of human contact, but they do show affection in other ways. Lucy is the name of my cat. She enjoys eating fish, meat, mashed eggs, and many other foods. When I get home from school, she rushes up to me and starts licking my hands. She recognises my sad mood and continues to sit beside me as if she is offering me support. We play on weekends and holidays, and she has a great time.

Elephants may appear to be enormous, but they are completely harmless. They have a playful nature; I have seen them in movies and videos splashing water from their trunks. The relationship between humans and elephants has been well known for a long time. Films have also been made about them, such as Haathi Mere Saathi. I have often seen the small and adorable baby elephants running around and playing in the zoo. Elephants eat plants, leaves, fruits, etc. Elephants are some of the most intelligent creatures on Earth.

Horses are extremely powerful and swift. Despite their thin legs, they are well-known for their running speed and are frequently used in horse races. Horses are obedient and friendly. Most of us have probably seen a horse in the hilly areas where they transport people from one location to another, and soldiers previously used them to fight in wars. Horses are herbivores that eat mostly grass. They can become extremely loyal to their master if properly trained. A horse’s average lifespan is 25-30 years. However, it may differ depending on their living circumstances. I once went to a horse race and witnessed them galloping with all their might. They are also among the most beautiful animals due to their silky hair and tails.

In an Indian household, the importance of a cow cannot be neglected. Cows have been given the status of mother and are referred to as “Gau Mata” in Hindi. A cow in the house is a common sight in rural areas. Many households rely on cows for a living. Cows produce milk, which is high in calcium and protein. Cow’s milk is used to make various dairy products such as cheese and yoghurt. Cows are herbivores that primarily eat grass, husk, vegetables, and grains. Cow dung is known for its antibacterial properties and is used as plant fertiliser. My grandparents’ house has four cows. I play with and feed them whenever I visit them on vacation. They are gentle creatures. I have fun spending time with them.

India’s national animal is the tiger. They are large cats that are mostly orange with black stripes. They are known for their strength and are associated with the Goddess Durga. They are carnivores that feed on small animals such as deer and antelopes. They are commonly referred to as man-eaters but do not unnecessarily prey on humans. Tigers are often hunted for their skin, nails and bones. During my summer vacations, I went to Sunderbans with my family, which is home to a variety of tigers. The Sundarban National Park and Tiger Reserve India aim to protect endangered species of tigers from extinction. The Indian government is also doing a lot to protect tigers!

Animals are a very important part of our surroundings, and this favourite animal essay will teach the children about them. They are innocent creatures who need love, and this essay might make the children more empathetic towards them. They will also learn about different animals and their features.

1. Which Are The Most Common Pets?

The Deceitful Bird

A tale about selfishness.

This is one of the most amazing Jataka tales.

The story is about a cunning bird who chooses to keep the grains that fall on the road from passing trucks a secret from his friends.

While the rest of the flock looks for food to share, the bird eats his fill without sharing.

The story concludes sadly with the bird's death and a powerful message about the bad consequences of selfishness.

A large flock of birds used to live in the Himalayan foothills a long time ago. The King of the Birds said to other birds, "Go in search of grain. If you come across any, please let me know and we'll share it!"

King of Birds Order Other Birds to Search for Food

King of Birds Order Other Birds to Search for Food

Soon, all of the birds flew away. One bird flew far away and saw many grain loaded carts passing by on a road. Grain fell on the road as the carts passed. "Wow! There's so much grain! What a treat! I'm not going to tell anyone else or I'll have to share with them," thought the selfish bird then flew back to his flock.

When the other birds inquired if he had found anything, he replied, "Oh, my beloved friends! I came across a route lined with carts." "Carts? There has to be a lot of grain in that place!" The birds were ecstatic. "Yes," the greedy bird replied, "but there were so many carts rushing by that it would be pointless to even try."

The other birds expressed their disappointment and said, "What a waste! It is more important for us to live our lives. We're not going there." The bird was overjoyed to see his idea come true. He'd fly off to the road every day after that and eat his fill.

He became very fat soon and the other birds began to be suspicious of him. The King followed the bird from a distance one day as he flew away as usual. The King realised he had fooled the others when he saw the bird eating on the grain. A cart came down the road while he stood there watching. When the greedy bird saw the cart, he said, "It's still a long way off. I still have time to eat," and continued to eat.

Selfish Bird Continue to Eat as Cart Nears Him

Selfish Bird Continue to Eat as Cart Nears Him

The cart was speeding along when the bird suddenly screamed out, "No way !" The cart ran over him before he could fly away. The bird landed on the dying birch, and the King flew to him. "I am very sorry, your Majesty!" he cried, ashamed. He died after saying this.

The King returned to his flock and told them of everything that had happened. "I hope you understand that selfishness leads to one's own destruction," he added.

Lessons from the Jataka Stories

The Jataka stories are a large collection of Indian literature that details Gautama Buddha's previous lives as both a human and an animal.

The lesson of these stories is that acts of love, kindness, duty, generosity, and wisdom ensure a better place in the next life.

The story of The Deceitful Bird reminds us that selfishness leads to our own destruction.

The characters in these jataka tales are symbols of ancient India's everyday life, animals, rulers, priests, and so on. Prior to his enlightenment, the character is always an incarnation of the Buddha. Each life is a message in its own way. The themes are moral, although a little dark at times.

FAQs on The Deceitful Bird

1. What did the king of the birds order?

The king of the birds once ordered his birds to go looking for grains. He told the birds to inform the kings if they saw the food so that they may all share and eat it.

2. What selfish bird said to other birds?

He returned to his flock and said that he, too, had not been able to find any grains like the other birds. The bird went on to say that he spotted many carts, but that since they were moving so fast, it was impossible to even try because one could be killed by the speeding cart.

3. What are Jatakas and Panchatantra?

Jataka tales are about Buddha's previous lives, in which he appears in both animal and human forms. Panchatantra, on the other hand, is an animal-based moral story. There are 550 stories in the Jataka Tales, and there are five tantras in the Panchatantra, which feature many animal stories with morals.

If I Were A Bird Essay - 100, 200, 500 Words

  • Essay on if I Were a Bird -

If you asked me what my perfect afterlife would be, I would love to be a bird. I've always wished I could soar far into the air. I have always been in awe of the many beautiful bird species that soar above us. It is so wonderful to see birds flying over the sky in the sunlight. Here are a few sample essays on ‘If I were a bird’ .

100 Words Essay on if I Were a Bird

200 words essay on if i were a bird, 500 words essay on if i were a bird.

If I Were A Bird Essay - 100, 200, 500 Words

Everybody wants to live a life free of all limitations . At some point or another, we all desire to live peacefully and away from materialistic things. We are required to behave in accordance with social norms and uphold a social life because we are humans. While we are required to abide by certain social rules, birds are free. The best example of a creature that understands freedom is a bird. Because of this, the dove is a symbol of liberation. If I were a bird, I would enjoy soaring high until sunset so I could watch the sun sink into the water. I would adore jumping into the ocean, touching the water, and catching fish in rivers.

When I think about how amazing it is for birds to be able to fly so high into the sky, I sometimes think about how they must feel like as living entities, in this world. It would strike any human thinker, and it also strikes me that birds have a talent for communicating with one another and the capacity to comprehend weather changes. I do often consider what my actions and feelings would be if I were a bird. I occasionally ponder which bird I would like to be in the realms of fantasy.

One day, if I were a bird with two powerful wings, I could fly to the highest of the skies and see many strange things that I can't even begin to imagine right now. I would have travelled to a foreign country and migrated there for a few months along with other species of birds that are uncommon in my home country, just as an aeroplane flies to far-off places and migratory birds cross oceans and mountains every year to reach far-off lands to temporarily settle there. I can’t imagine how it would feel like—to have so much liberty that you can fly anywhere you want without having to think much. I have no doubt that I would have found that to be an odd but wonderful experience.

Birds are incredibly distinctive creatures with defining characteristics that they all share. They share features like two legs, wings, and feathers . Furthermore, all birds lay eggs and have warm blood. They are extremely significant to our environment and come in many different breeds.

Importance of Birds

Depending on the species, birds can range in size from 2 inches to 2.75 metres—take the smallest, the bee hummingbird, and the largest, the ostrich. Birds first appeared 160 million years ago . Birds come in many different varieties, each with its own special qualities. Penguins, for example, are unable to fly. Also, there are intelligent birds such as parrots and corvids .

We also have peacocks, which are elegant and represent rain and pleasant weather. Then there are the vultures and bats. Birds are highly intuitive and highly connected to their environment.

They can forecast weather, and some of them are kept close to coal mines to help prevent mine explosions. They enjoy singing and are very sociable. Birds like to fly around freely and without restrictions.

My Favourite Bird

The parrot is one of my favourite birds . It is a vibrant bird that can be found all over the world. It has a wide range of colours, sizes, and shapes. Vibrant colours make parrots a popular pet.

While some have a single, vivid colour, others have a rainbow of hues. The majority of what parrots eat are seeds, nuts, and fruits, and they are typically small to medium in size. The species of parrot determines how long they live.

While smaller birds like love birds only live for about 15 years, larger birds like cockatoos and macaws live for 80 years . Parrots are actually quite intelligent. Because of their capacity to mimic human speech, they are frequently kept as pets. As a result, they are the most sought-after species of bird for commercial use. People are making efforts to ensure that parrots receive good care all over the world. They are regarded as sacred in many cultures.

Because parrots are highly intelligent, it's best to let them live in the wild without being caged. My parrot, Shiro, was never caged when I was younger. It used to follow me everywhere I went and never flew off. I have fond memories with him. There is no other type of bird that I like more than a parrot.

Saving Birds

The ecological balance is being disrupted by hunting, poaching, and habitat destruction, which are causing many species of birds to go extinct. As a result of pollution and the advancement of science and technology, the number of aquatic birds like swans, ducks, and others is also drastically decreasing. Therefore, it is up to us all to take the necessary steps to help the birds survive and prevent their extinction. In addition, the government should also be aware of these and pass certain rules and regulations to protect birds from extinction. We all need to protect birds because they are essential to the health and balance of our ecosystem.

When I Became a Birder, Almost Everything Else Fell Into Place

An illustration showing a birder standing quietly looking through binoculars in four scenes. In the third scene, he says, “Amazing.”

Mr. Yong is a science writer whose most recent book, “An Immense World,” investigates animal perception.

Last September, I drove to a protected wetland near my home in Oakland, Calif., walked to the end of a pier and started looking at birds. Throughout the summer, I was breaking in my first pair of binoculars, a Sibley field guide and the Merlin song-identification app, but always while hiking or walking the dog. On that pier, for the first time, I had gone somewhere solely to watch birds.

In some birding circles, people say that anyone who looks at birds is a birder — a kind, inclusive sentiment that overlooks the forces that create and shape subcultures. Anyone can dance, but not everyone would identify as a dancer, because the term suggests, if not skill, then at least effort and intent. Similarly, I’ve cared about birds and other animals for my entire life, and I’ve written about them throughout my two decades as a science writer, but I mark the moment when I specifically chose to devote time and energy to them as the moment I became a birder.

Since then, my birder derangement syndrome has progressed at an alarming pace. Seven months ago, I was still seeing very common birds for the first time. Since then, I’ve seen 452 species, including 337 in the United States, and 307 this year alone. I can reliably identify a few dozen species by ear. I can tell apart greater and lesser yellowlegs, house and purple finches, Cooper’s and sharp-shinned hawks. (Don’t talk to me about gulls; I’m working on the gulls.) I keep abreast of eBird’s rare bird alerts and have spent many days — some glorious, others frustrating — looking for said rare birds. I know what it means to dip, to twitch, to pish . I’ve gone owling.

I didn’t start from scratch. A career spent writing about nature gave me enough avian biology and taxonomy to roughly know the habitats and silhouettes of the major groups. Journalism taught me how to familiarize myself with unfamiliar territory very quickly. I crowdsourced tips on the social media platform Bluesky . I went out with experienced birders to learn how they move through a landscape and what cues they attend to.

I studied up on birds that are famously difficult to identify so that when I first saw them in the field, I had an inkling of what they were without having to check a field guide. I used the many tools now available to novices: EBird shows where other birders go and reveals how different species navigate space and time; Merlin is best known as an identification app but is secretly an incredible encyclopedia; Birding Quiz lets you practice identifying species based on fleeting glances at bad angles.

This all sounds rather extra, and birding is often defined by its excesses. At its worst, it becomes an empty process of collection that turns living things into abstract numbers on meaningless lists. But even that style of birding is harder without knowledge. To find the birds, you have to know them. And in the process of knowing them, much else falls into place.

Birding has tripled the time I spend outdoors. It has pushed me to explore Oakland in ways I never would have: Amazing hot spots lurk within industrial areas, sewage treatment plants and random residential parks. It has proved more meditative than meditation. While birding, I seem impervious to heat, cold, hunger and thirst. My senses focus resolutely on the present, and the usual hubbub in my head becomes quiet. When I spot a species for the first time — a lifer — I course with adrenaline while being utterly serene.

I also feel a much deeper connection to the natural world, which I have long written about but always remained slightly distant from. I knew that the loggerhead shrike — a small but ferocious songbird — impales the bodies of its prey on spikes. I’ve now seen one doing that with my own eyes. I know where to find the shrikes and what they sound like. Countless fragments of unrooted trivia that rattled around my brain are now grounded in place, time and experience.

When I step out my door in the morning, I take an aural census of the neighborhood, tuning in to the chatter of creatures that were always there and that I might have previously overlooked. The passing of the seasons feels more granular, marked by the arrival and disappearance of particular species instead of much slower changes in day length, temperature and greenery. I find myself noticing small shifts in the weather and small differences in habitat. I think about the tides.

So much more of the natural world feels close and accessible now. When I started birding, I remember thinking that I’d never see most of the species in my field guide. Sure, backyard birds like robins and western bluebirds would be easy, but not black skimmers or peregrine falcons or loggerhead shrikes. I had internalized the idea of nature as distant and remote — the province of nature documentaries and far-flung vacations. But in the past six months, I’ve seen soaring golden eagles, heard duetting great horned owls, watched dancing sandhill cranes and marveled at diving Pacific loons, all within an hour of my house. “I’ll never see that” has turned into “Where can I find that?”

Of course, having the time to bird is an immense privilege. As a freelancer, I have total control over my hours and my ability to get out in the field. “Are you a retiree?” a fellow birder recently asked me. “You’re birding like a retiree.” I laughed, but the comment spoke to the idea that things like birding are what you do when you’re not working, not being productive.

I reject that. These recent years have taught me that I’m less when I’m not actively looking after myself, that I have value to my world and my community beyond ceaseless production and that pursuits like birding that foster joy, wonder and connection to place are not sidebars to a fulfilled life but their essence.

It’s easy to think of birding as an escape from reality. Instead, I see it as immersion in the true reality. I don’t need to know who the main characters are on social media and what everyone is saying about them, when I can instead spend an hour trying to find a rare sparrow. It’s very clear to me which of those two activities is the more ridiculous. It’s not the one with the sparrow.

More of those sparrows are imminent. I’m about to witness my first spring migration as warblers and other delights pass through the Bay Area. Birds I’ve seen only in drab grays are about to don their spectacular breeding plumages. Familiar species are about to burst out in new tunes that I’ll have to learn. I have my first lazuli bunting to see, my first blue grosbeak to find, my first least terns to photograph. I can’t wait.
