Brother's Day review: A thriller etched with fun and frolic
Kalabhavan Shajon's directorial debut Brother's Day starring Prithviraj takes a track suited for the title. Prithvi takes the plot forward and he is indeed a doting brother, whose sister is overcoming a traumatic past.
But this is not about a brother alone. Shajon, who has also scripted the movie, fills the movie with a host of characters. So it is only natural that the movie will have a host of parallel tracks, akin to the family drama movies of 80s.
The initial part of Brother's Day is mostly a mix of fun and frolic revolving around Prithvi's character Ronnie and his buddy Munna who run a catering venture.
After 'Ayyappanum Koshyum', Prithviraj back in an action avatar; see 'Kaduva' teaser
Shylock movie review: A complete Mammootty show
But the movie doesn't start with that. It starts with a flashback somewhere in Tamil Nadu with the tale of a family which disintegrates mostly because of a drunkard father.
There, the seeds of a brother's affection is sown, but it is also tragic. The doting brother has to murder his father and his paedophile friend to save his sister.
Bloodshed is natural, but the brother and sister also had to part ways, but unlike in the 80s, we are not sure if the brother is indeed our protagonist or the villain till the late part of the movie.
It could be someone else also and Shajon has crafted this suspense element well.
Apart from Ronni's sister enacted by Prayaga Martin, Shajon also lists three other actresses including Madonna, who is the protagonist's object of desire.
Aiswarya Lakshmi and Miya are characters woven to unravel the dark hues of our villain, played by Prasanna.
Prasanna's character is at first dicey and gradually a psycho element is shockingly revealed. So a psycho who is into blackmailing women takes Brother's Day from the initial masala mix to a thriller narrative.
Shajon has handled the change of pace well.
Then unravels the tale of Brother's Day with some fine action sequences, twists and turns.
Prithviraj has dabbled with a mix of comedy for Brother's Day's lighter moments while Prasanna stands out in the villianous character's dark hues.
The comic scenes at times drag the movie initially, but the action sequences have been carefully visualised.
Shajon has pitched Brother's Day as a family movie initially but he later swaps it to thriller mode.
The director has also used flashbacks a bit too much to unravel the plot and along with the songs, the the two-hour-forty-five-minute movie may be considered a bit lengthy.
But then it is positioned as an Onam release and that justifies a vast array of characters and the duration of the movie.
Brother's Day has all ingredients of a commercial entertainer though the presence of some characters may seem as a deliberate act by the filmmakers.
Shajon has also not bothered to unravel the reason behind the villain's psychic trait.
Since the movie begins in Tamil Nadu it is only apt that a Tamil song wafts in it, but the surprise is that it is in the voice of a Tamil star.
Shajon himself makes a cameo appearance towards the end to close the case of an apparent murder of a hardcore criminal from Tamil Nadu, which turns out to be our villain to redeem the movie from the dark clutches of a psycho killer so that peace, harmony, fun, frolic and romance can flow into the lives of our dear brother and his near and dear ones.

#BrothersDay Interval: Mostly melodramatic and cliched but fair amount of comedies working at parts while few are flat. A welcome change to see Prithvi in a lighter, jolly character. Vijayaraghavan is in form though his character is bit loud. Average 1st half. #BrothersDay: With a complete serious 2nd half the film falls flat without serving the purpose in anyways ending on a below average note. Shajon struggles to blend the issues he dealt with a beaten to death execution. Neither Prithviraj nor the rest of the cast could save it

#BrothersDay #Review First half has comedy elements some clicks some are not. #Prithviraj looks good in this commercial space. Overall decent first half✌ #BrothersDay #Review Decent first half goes to a serious second half. The villain is shown well. But as a whole the movie falls below expectations. Its decent but nothing extra ordinary . 2/5⭐

#BrothersDay A melodramatic movie. #Prithviraj leaves his serious character like in Pavada & Amar Akbar Anthony. Comedy scenes are not clicked some times but sometimes it makes laugh. Vijayaraghavan highlighted his presence through his character.

Critics Review
A potentially good family thriller drama that falls just average.
Kalabhavan Shajohn's Brother's Day, starring PrithviRaj, Madonna Sebastian, Aishwarya Lekshmi and Prasanna is an averagely engaging family thriller drama that takes a long while to kick-in into the actual plot. (more)

Too many twists in Prithviraj's suspense thriller
Actor Shajohn proves his skill as a director by creating a suspense thriller and shows the promise for more projects. However, the one question to be asked to the scribe-cum-director is, why does a movie always need the abused women to be rescued by a man (in this film, the saviour is known as Puli)? In this day and age, when women are standing up for themselves, it is quite natural for the audience to question why aren't women capable of protecting their 'honour'. In this Onam season, if you want to have a taste of a suspense thriller, grab a ticket. (more)

This Prithviraj film is horrible
Prasanna has been very loyal to the paycheck and he has delivered what was asked of him without many questions. And, Prithviraj looks utterly clueless and so does Aishwarya Lekshmi. I can't understand why Madonna Sebastian is in the film. I am sure she would have felt the same. (more)

just another mass entertainer
Prithviraj plays the boy-next-door and at times his character seems like a watered down version of Amar from Amar Akbar Anthony. The four lead ladies deliver what the script demands along with the film's elaborate supporting cast. While the film boasts of some well-orchestrated action, music and camera stick to the conventional rule book of a festival release. Brother's Day may measure up to everything that makes a mass entertainer, but the film simply leaves it at that. (more)

Brother's Day Movie Review: A bizarrely written, lazily executed film
Rating: ( 1.5 / 5).
You know the saying, 'Don't bite off more than you can chew'? It's something I would like to tell the abomination that is Brother's Day . Somebody must've slept off while writing/directing/editing this film because this is one of the most bizarre movies ever made. A script like this is every sensible screenwriter's nightmare. It's confused as to whether it wants to be a family entertainer or a dark thriller. I would say it's more of the latter. It crams way too many twists and turns just to give off the impression that something big is happening. A film of this nature is not recommended for kids or for viewing in a festival atmosphere on account of some disturbing imagery. It's a lazily written and directed film stretched to nearly three hours for some odd reason.
Director: Kalabhavan Shajohn Cast: Prithviraj, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Madonna Sebastian, Miya George, Vijayaraghavan
To give you a sense of how baffling the screenplay is, let me start with a portion where one character meets with a gruesome end and, later, we see her alive--back to how she was before the incident. I found that extremely awkward. It must be also noted that after the murder news is flashed on the television, the character's close relatives walk around as if nothing had happened. Didn't anyone from the film's team pay attention to this glaring inconsistency? Or did everyone deliberately turn a blind eye to what was happening on the screen for fear of not offending anyone?
It seems like two different versions of the same story had been joined in the middle. It had me wondering if this was a science fiction film by any chance -- you know, the sort where a character travels back in time to stop a murder from happening. There are multiple twists incorporated into the narrative just for the sake of it. No proper reasoning has been given for their existence. Characters who show up in one form in the first half turn into another in the second. One character even undergoes three transformations. Even M Night Shyamalan wouldn't have dreamed up these twists.
It's a mystery how Prithviraj and Prasanna managed to have fun in the middle of all this utterly ridiculous and incomprehensible chaos. They, along with Vijayaraghavan, are the best things about this film. It's refreshing to see Prithviraj in a completely relaxed mode after playing serious characters in his recent films. As the manager of a catering company (a change from his usual "top class" roles like astrophysicist or nuclear waste management specialist), Prithviraj's Ronnie is an electrifying presence on screen. His mannerisms reminded me of Mukesh from the early Priyadarshan's films. He shines in a few comical situations, a colourful dance number and a couple of fight sequences. It can't be denied that he, along with Dharmajan, conjures up some solid laughs but you don't get enough of it.
When a filthy rich and affable stranger Chandy (Vijayaraghavan), enters his life, things take a different turn. Chandy's is delightfully eccentric. We have not seen the actor in this form before. Also making the most out of his villainous character is Prasanna, even though there is no backstory explaining his actions. I understand that some villains are much scarier without a backstory but considering how ridiculous things get towards the film's latter portions, I would've liked to see a character who doesn't possess the information gathering skills of Arnold Schwarzenegger from the Terminator movies. There is no explanation as to why he became a misogynistic scoundrel who blackmails and kills people in brutal fashion. (Meanwhile, your brain cells are being killed by all the absurdity on display.) Though there is a moderately interesting twist concerning him and another lead character, they don't really add up once you put them together.
Of the four female leads in this, it's only one or two who actually have something significant to do. The rest of them were apparently added to increase the marketing value of the film. Madonna Sebastian's character shows up and tells Ronnie why being single and free is such a great idea. She cites her parents' bad marriage as the reason for that decision. It's here we learn that Ronnie is also single. He tells her he also has a backstory, but we never get to hear it. The scene cuts abruptly. But this is not the only scene with an abrupt end. There are several others. But since the narrative becomes terribly confusing by the end, I forgot to keep count because I was busy wondering if this was a science fiction film.

Brother’s Day Movie Review: This Prithviraj Flick Is An Average Affair!
Brother's Day, the Prithviraj Sukumaran starring comedy-thriller, has finally hit theatres. The movie, which marks the directorial debut of actor Kalabhavan Shahjohn, is undoubtedly one of the most anticipated projects of the year. Prithviraj is making a comeback to the comedy genre with Brother's Day, which has already grabbed the attention of audiences with its stellar star cast, interesting teaser, and songs.
Has the Prithviraj Sukumaran movie lived up to the expectations? Read Brother's Day movie review here to know....
The movie begins with a flashback where a young boy kills his drunkard father and his friend, to save his younger sister. The story later shifts to present, into the life of Rony (Prithviraj), a simple young man who runs a catering company along with his best buddy Munna (Dharmajan).
During one of their assignments, Rony meets Jema (Madonna Sebastian) and Chandi (Vijayaraghavan), and develops a bond with them. Parallel to Rony and Jema's story, we are introduced to the psycho character played by Prasanna, who blackmails women. What happens to Rony after he connects with the antagonist with the help of Santa (Aishwarya Lekshmi), forms the crux of the story.
Script & Direction
Kalabhavan Shahjohn makes a decent debut as a scriptwriter and director with Brother's Day. The director has created a comedy thriller, which has both entertaining and thrilling moments to offer. The connections between the sub-plots are handled well without affecting the overall pace even though the movie begins and ends on a predictable note. The constant shifts from one back story to another and excessive usage of flashbacks are a bit exhausting.
When it comes to comedy, a few situations work well while the others look forced and fall flat without making an impact. The emotional sequences go overboard after a certain point and end up being extremely melodramatic. The movie insists on women needing a saviour to escape this bad world, which is just an outdated idea. But when we consider the overall experience, Brother's Day is a watchable comedy-thriller.
Performances
Prithviraj Sukumaran, who plays Rony, has delivered an exceptional performance in the emotional moments and handles the action sequences really well. However, the actor's performance goes a little over the top in the comedy scenes, and he definitely needs to work on his comic timing. Prasanna who plays the main antagonist, brings the much-needed mystery element into his character with his balanced performance.
The leading ladies, Madonna Sebastian, Aishwarya Lekshmi (even though her character looks repetitive), Mia George, and Prayaga Martin, have played their parts well. The rest of the star cast including Dharmajan Bolgatty, Vijayaraghavan, Kottayam Nazir, Kunjan, etc., are good in their respective roles.
Technical Aspects
The good visualisation by Jithu Damodar makes Brother's Day an eye-pleasing watch. Akhilesh Mohan's editing is not up to the mark as the second half looks stretched and the movie is a bit lengthy.
The songs composed by 4 Musics band and Nadhirshah are fine. But the background score, especially the tunes which are used for the thriller part of the movie, needed to be toned down a bit.
Brother's Day is strictly an average comedy-thriller, which has its own strengths and shortcomings. Watch it if you are a huge fan of Prithviraj Sukumaran.

Brother's Day movie review: Prithviraj Sukumaran does a less noisy version of Mikhael
Brother’s Day is about extreme violence that fails to evoke any empathy for the survivors because they are so sketchily written.
Language: Malayalam
A song called ‘ Thalolam Thumbippennale ’ with the catchphrase Zing zig a zig zig plays at a birthday party right before the interval of the Malayalam film Brother’s Day . With no particular relevance to either the setting (Kerala) or the characters in the story (not one of them a Hindi bhaashi ), the number begins with some Hindi lines. A few minutes earlier, a group of turbaned men had appeared but not said a word in a room where the hero was meeting a friend. A large group of similarly turbaned men turn up to back an ensemble of Malayali characters as they dance wildly to ‘ Thalolam Thumbippennale ’ with moves that mimic the Bhangra. Those background figures are presumably Sikh, although the shape of their turbans shows very poor research on the part of the director. The movie maybe Malayalam and the actors all well-known Mollywood stars, but the song resembles one of those trite, large and loud Hindi/Punjabi wedding song ’n’ dance numbers that Bollywood would once routinely and mindlessly chuck into films, numbers that are gradually - thankfully - now getting outmoded in Hindi cinema.
That scene exemplifies everything that is wrong with Brother’s Day : it is a poorly scripted film that does not bother with detailing, it is imitative, it is packed with clichés, it is not faithful to its roots, it aspires to be something that it is not but does not do enough homework to accurately be whatever that other thing is, and it lacks finesse. Such casualness is particularly galling because actor-turned-writer-director Kalabhavan Shajohn has assembled a fantastic cast for this project.
Brother’s Day stars Prithviraj Sukumaran as Ronnie whose work in the hospitality industry brings him in touch with a wealthy and happy-go-lucky elderly gentleman called Chandy (Vijayaraghavan) and his daughter Santa (Aishwarya Lekshmi). Ronnie is devoted to his sister (Prayaga Martin). Early on he bumps into a woman who has obviously been marked out by the script as a potential ’love interest’ (Madonna Sebastian).
A character played by Prasanna runs a blackmailing racket with several accomplices, and is a constant mysterious presence in the background.
Multiple twists are forced into this thriller. Multiple sub-plots are thrown in to fill it out. Scenes are written and shot without much thought.
Sample this. A minor supporting character is introduced as a “Bangali” and is meant to be one of the numerous Bengali immigrants who can now be found working in Kerala - the actor playing this part, however, does nothing to camouflage his very pronounced Malayalam accent.
Or sample this. Ronnie is shown standing on a pier confiding in a friend about his tragic past. He is so heart-broken that he sobs as he speaks. She seems like a considerate woman. Yet as he finishes his story and turns to her, the camera pulls out to show her turning her back on him and walking away in slow motion in an aerial shot that is visually grand but makes absolutely no sense.
Or this. We learn at one point that Chandy’s daughter Santa is named after another character who was dear to him. Yet the film also features a scene from her childhood in which she is shown gazing at a group of people dressed in Santa Claus costumes accompanied by a couple of nuns, all of them gazing back at her one Christmas Day. Perhaps that was meant to be artistic and profound imagery, but in truth it is kind of laughable.
This is a film about extreme violence that fails to evoke any empathy for the survivors because they are so sketchily written. In fact, it does not seem to care much about them. They are just by-the-ways as Kalabhavan Shajohn obsesses over his primary preoccupations: making his villain intimidating and hero all-powerful. Among the instruments at his disposal is what seems like a sizeable budget for cinematography, but how does it help that Kerala looks picturesque through Jithu Damodar’s camera if the storytelling is so cold? And oh god, what is one to say about that over-emphatic background score?
The bad guy is a blackmailer, rapist and serial killer. He employs various means to ravage his victims. He is also assigned an ominous signature whistling tune and a vicious dog. Like him, Ronnie is filled with ideas for how to bash up and twist human bodies. Despite this, the action scenes come off looking limp.
Any entertainment to be drawn out of Brother’s Day comes entirely in the first half in the banter between Ronnie and his friend Munna played by Dharmajan Bolgatty. Of course it is all silly slapstick stuff but silly slapstick stuff never hurt anyone if it is inoffensive and you are in the mood for relaxation that does not exercise your brain too much. What does hurt is to see the gifted Prithviraj Sukumaran squander his talent on the generic thriller material that follows. When that happens in a film that also under-utilises the lovely Aishwarya Lekshmi and Madonna Sebastian, it is completely off-putting. After delivering excellent performances in substantial roles so early in her career with Njandukalude Nattil Oridavela , Mayaanadhi and Vijay Superum Pournamiyum , Ms Lekshmi’s decision to be a part of Brother’s Day either shows poor instincts or is a measure of the limited options available to women in Mollywood.
Towards the beginning of Brother’s Day , Ronnie references the Archangel Lucifer in what is clearly a bow to Prithviraj’s directorial debut earlier this year. Lucifer starring Mohanlal, another recent film with a mythological title, the Nivin Pauly-starrer Mikhael , and last month’s Tovino Thomas-starrer Kalki that took its name from Hindu tradition, belong to a genre of men-centric Malayalam cinema characterised by intellectual pretentions that unwittingly underline their vacuousness, high-decibel music, assembly-line scripting and stereotypical camerawork designed to build up the leading men as larger-than-life creatures. The basic storylines may change but they fit a fixed template, the degree of over-statement may vary but the cinematic vision remains exactly the same. For instance, Brother’s Day does not get as raucous as Mikhael and Kalki, and - despite its inexplicable disinterest in the impact of violence on the human beings on its canvas - it is not as nauseating as those two films either.
Prithviraj Sukumaran is a powerful male star with a multitude of choices available to him, living in an era in which a quieter, gentler Malayalam cinema is winning hearts nationwide. He has done films like Koode that have showcased his acting brilliance. And then he settles for this pointless film?

This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
Been a while since I'd seen an Onam release in the theatres; those masala no-brainers that give you a festive, sugar-high, family experience. Brothers Day isn't that movie.
Not picking on the logic here, but the tonal shifts in the movie from family drama to psycho-thriller is VERY disturbing. At least I didn't sign up for it, for a U/A rating this was quite a bloodfest. Prasanna maniacally watching his Rottweiler maul drugged, naked women; stunt sequences involving a live chainsaw (with amplified slicing noises) aren't things you expect to see in a movie titled thus. Ratsasan , I get it - but Brothers Day ?
Also questioning the judgment of people like Listin Stephen (who's produced gems like Ustad Hotel, Chappa Kurishu previously), Aishwarya Lekshmi, Madonna Sebastian and Prasanna (with decent track records of picking scripts).
Heck, Prithviraj isn't even brother material. WTH! Take me back to his 2003 Onam release, Swapnakoodu - to simpler times, to wholesome cinema!

I made a promise to myself to not review movies that I haven't watched after I started using Letterboxd.
Yet at the same time, I don't think I'll ever watch this movie again, yet I don't have my thoughts on this movie anywhere in a permanent way.
This movie has haunted my existence ever since I watched it all the way back in 2019. It's been 3 years and yet it still baffles me how this movie was even approved. For a brief moment, I lost hope in all the innovation and growth that the Malayalam film industry had been showing ever since it underwent a Renaissance in the early 2010s.
The first act, carried by Prithviraj's **somewhat** competent performance…

Brother’s Day (2019) Malayalam Movie Review – Veeyen
It goes without saying that it’s a miracle that the film makers believed that a theme as this could work wonders in 2019. And it’s even a greater marvel that they got several sensible heads to give a nod to this project that could have probably made a ripple a good fifteen or twenty years back.
Half way into Kalabhavan Shajohn’s ‘Brother’s Day’ you keep thinking less of Shajohn’s debut as a director and more of how refreshing it is to see Prithivraj as Ronnie, a role where he sheds off the loads of sobriety that had accumulated over him with the films that he had done over the past several months.
Ronnie along with Joy (Kalabhavan Naseer) and Munna (Dharmajan) runs a catering service and is distraught that his sister Ruby (Prayaga Martin) has ended up in the hospital post a harrowing event that had left her traumatized. He runs into and befriends a millionaire Chandy (Vijayaraghavan) and his daughter Santa (Aishwarya Lekshmi) and when Santa comes across Ruby, they immediately recognize each other, much to Ronnie’s surprise.
‘Brother’s Day’ also has a couple of other plot threads running along, one of which involves Shiva (Prasanna), a scheming psychopath who has taken to blackmailing affluent and rich men, and another one that involves Thaneesha (Mia George) who is shattered by her dad’s sudden suicide and looking around for possible answers to the many questions that she has in mind.
It’s an elaborate plot that Shajohn works out in his first ever directorial venture, but one which has obviousness written all over it. It isn’t the first time that we get to see a psychopath as Shiva in action, and it certainly from the looks of it seems, that it will not be the last time either.
Logic goes for a ride in ‘Brother’s Day’ and there are any number of instances that bear testimony to it. This lack of rationale extends from the characterization to events, and is most blatantly expressed in Thaneesha, who miraculously transforms into a femme fatale from a coy girl overnight, and that too under threat!
Take for instance the climactic action sequence that has Santa being chased through a jungle by Thaneesha and Co., and finally running right into Shiva’s arms. The next scene has her mouth taped and her limbs tied up making you wonder if this good looking ruffian carries a roll of duct tape with him all the while, or if it is merely on missions as these, that he tugs a bundle of rope along.
The jokes and the humour too are nothing to be delighted about, and they range across the plain exhausting to the slightly amusing categories. The action scenes are choreographed leaving no stones unturned, and Ronnie has a go at all of them without any mercy, breaking and crushing bones like there is no tomorrow.
It takes a while to get all the sub plots connected in a loop, and from there on, its a Shiva show all the way. And it’s a dapper looking Prasanna and his ice cold gaze that ‘Brother’s Day’ ultimately leaves you with, and everything and everyone else including a super-earnest Prithviraj is pushed to the shade. Aishwarya Lekshmi does the best out of what she has been offered, Mia looks off key, Prayaga looks off track and Madonna looks almost off scene.
Verdict: Average

Love Action Drama, Ittymaani and Brother’s Day movie release LIVE UPDATES
Ittymaani: made in china, love action drama and brother's day movie review and release live updates: here's what celebrities, critics and fans are saying about ittymaani: made in china, love action drama and brother's day..
If you are a movie buff, it is one of those Fridays when you are forced to make that tough choice as to which film to watch first. The exciting line-up of films does not make the decision-making process any easier. A romantic comedy starring adorable actors (Love Action Drama). A seasoned actor promising a laugh riot (Ittymaani: Made in China) and a revenge drama with a top star in the lead (Brother’s Day). As if it is not enough, we also have what seems like an uplifting sports drama (Finals).
Even as we have four films coming out of four different genres, all of the Onam releases have one thing in common – all of them are helmed by debutant directors.
Starring Nivin Pauly and Nayanthara in the lead roles, Love Action Drama marks the debut of Dhyan Sreenivasan as a director.
Mohanlal’s Ittimaani Made in China is jointly written and directed by Jibi and Joju. It also stars KPAC Lalitha, Honey Rose, Aju Varghese and Salim Kumar.
Prithviraj-starrer Brother’s Day is written and directed by actor Kalabhavan Shajohn. The film also stars Aishwarya Lekshmi, Prayaga Rose Martin, Aima Rosmy Sebastian and Miya George.

@rejathh tweeted, “Nice movie which I never expected When #LoveActionDrama impressed me with the overall making #IttymaaniMadeinChina scores high on content the 1st half was just watchable which was followed by a really gud sec half... Will surely appeal to the families #Mohanlal”.
@UnpaidCritic_ tweeted, “#BrothersDay #Review Decent first half goes to a serious second half. The villain is shown well. But as a whole the movie falls below expectations. Its decent but nothing extra ordinary 🙄. 2/5â #IttymaaniMadeInChina #Brothersday #LoveActionDrama”.
“A good message oriented film but stretched too far and preachy in the end. @Mohanlal and #Siddique is the saving grace. Lot of double meaning and crass comments , which could have been avoided. #IttymaaniMadeInChina #Ittiman,” @bijupeter tweeted.
Twitter user @CooIrunnings gave Love Action Drama 3.5 stars out of 5. His tweet read, “#LoveActionDrama review. Not @NivinOfficial best(like premam, OSO, Thattathin marayathu) but very very enjoyable. Arguably Nivin's best comic performance. Great first half followed by an above average second half ala Aravindante Adhitikal. Rating3.5/5”.
According to Twitter user @Arun_kuttu_0712, “seems #LoveActionDrama and #IttymaaniMadeInChina will be Onam winners this year - both getting good reports. #BrothersDay is kind of crushed between these biggies with average reports. The Mohanlal factor will provide #Ittymani an edge over #LAD! So happy Onam film-lovers!”.
“#BrothersDay : (Director Kalabhavan) Shajon tries an Amar Akbar Anthony by adding a parallel crime angle to a comically narrated plot but fails to execute in properly.Average 1st half with partly working comedies and a tiresome, serious second half.A forgettable directorial debut by the Ace artist,” tweeted @urstrulyadhil.
@amaljithJithu tweeted, "#IttymaaniMadeInChina: A clean family Entertainer. Comedy and sentiments worked very well. Good message to the society in a humourous way. Lalettan-siddique scenes were the standout. Sureshot Hit for Onam season. Entertainer Lalettan is back @Mohanlal ittychan mass."
Indianexpress, com’s Manoj Kumar R wrote in his Love Action Drama review, “Love Action Drama is no Vadakkunokkiyanthram, but it still works, thanks to the energy that the actors Nivin Pauly and Nayanthara bring to the screen. And, editor Vivek Harshan’s cuts and director Dhyan Sreenivasan’s non-linear screenplay keep us engaged.”

According to Twitter user @kboxstats, Brother's Day is a highly inconsistent film. "Good first half followed by a below average second half. Main problem with BD is it is a highly inconsistent one. Extremely loud in some portions and overmelodramatic in other areas. Shajon excels in making and but fails in scripting. 2.5/5,” he tweeted.
@bijupeter tweeted, “#IttymaaniMadeInChina Interval A typical #mohanlal family drama with an unbelievable twist before interval. Few scenes are funny. Hit or Miss depends on second half. @Mohanlal holds fort with good support from @AjuVarghesee and @realradikaa”.

Planning to watch Prithviraj-starrer Brother's Day? Check out the trailer first:
“#IttymaaniMadeInChina #review Decent first half with humor, underwhelming interval,a decent 2nd half.#Mohanlal is the saving grace. One time watchable movie with a message.Cant call it the Onam winner, but it is okay. 2.5/5 #ittimanimadeinchina #LoveActionDrama #brothersday,” @UnpaidCritic_ tweeted.
@UnpaidCritic_ tweeted, “#BrothersDay #Review. First half has comedy elements some clicks some are not. #Prithviraj looks good in this commercial space. Overall decent first half✌ #IttymaaniMadeInChina #LoveActionDrama #Ittimani”.
According to @afsaltweets, “#LoveActionDrama Dhyan Sreenivasan has invested more in the rich frames and beautiful costumes, but less content. But he packed it well as a good entertainer for the big festival season. Eventhough the 2nd half is on a downside, overall a watchable entertainer👠#LADReview”.
@Forumkeralam1 tweeteed, “#BrothersDay Interval: Mostly melodramatic and cliched but fair amount of comedies working at parts while few are flat. A welcome change to see Prithvi in a lighter, jolly character. Vijayaraghavan is in form though his character is bit loud. Average 1st half”.
On Love Action Drama, @akhilantonym tweeted, “Entertaining first half followed by a decent second half. Overall watchable flick from theatres @AjuVarghesee @nivin_fans_knr @NivinOfficial”.
@rejathh tweeted, “Barring some of the portions in the second half which could have been better the film worked big time for me...it's a very colorful well made fun entertainer..Nivin Nayanthara Aju Varghese have all done a good job .. Kudos to the entire team #LoveActionDrama”.
Ashwin Varkey Ajay (@varkey_III) tweeted, “#LoveActionDrama a light weighted film with some love, some action, some drama and lots of comedy. Sets out to entertain, and mostly succeeds. Good debut for @DhyanSreenivas1 @NivinOfficial is amazing. Wish @NayantharaU had a bit more to do. Good 1st half, okayish 2nd half”.
For V. Aravind (@Gala_Boy_), Love Action Drama failed to meet the high standard of Nivin Pauly’s previous films. “#LoveActionDrama Good first half followed by a mediocre second half spoiled the fun. Characters didn't had an intresting arch but @NivinOfficial held the film singlehandedly with his unmissable charm. Film Failed to meet the high standard of his prev BB's #LADReview,” he tweeted.
Multifaceted actor-filmmaker Dhanush has written and sung a song titled "Nenjodu Vinaa" for Brother’s Day.
Listen to the song here:
In an interview with CinemaExpress.com, Mohanlal said, “Given Ittymaani’s birth in China, we had to film those portions there. But then the rest of his life takes place in Kunnamkulam (Kerala). I believe this is the first Malayalam film shot in China.”
Making his debut as a producer with Love Action Drama, actor Aju Varghese took to Twitter to ask his fans for their wishes. “A very important day in my life, need all your prayers !!! Sincere prayers & wishes matters a lot !! #LoveActionDrama releasing today..,” he tweeted.
Prasanna, who is making his Mollywood debut with Brother's Day, tweeted, "A Big day, #Brothersday my malayalam debut releasing today. Wish me good luck pals. My hearty wishes to @MagicFrame_MF Listin, #KalabavanShajon @PrithviOfficial @AishwaryaLeksh4 @MadonnaSebast14 #MiaGeorge #Prayaga dop Jithudhamodhar n rest of the lovely team.”
Nivin Pauly on Thursday tweeted, "Thank you for all the heartwarming responses! Thank you everyone for the love & support! With love, Dineshan ⤠#LoveActionDrama"
In an interview with The Hindu, Kalabhavan Shajohn said, "I would like viewers to come to theatres and watch Brother’s Day without any expectations. Since I come from a mimicry background and have been doing mostly comic roles, the most frequent question I have been asked after the project was announced was whether this is an out-and-out comedy. It is the story of a catering employee named Ronnie, played by Prithviraj. It is a family thriller."
Radikaa Sarathkumar, who returns to Mollywood with Ittymaani: Made in China, had earlier shared on Twitter, "Thank you @Mohanlal sir and #Ittymaani team. it was a honour to work with you, looking forward to great success. It’s a wrap for me, now for some time with family."
Vignesh Shivn posted on Twitter, "All the best to this super energetic team for their earnest efforts to make a lovely family entertainer. My fav @NivinOfficial joins the new feel good filmmaker #DhyanSreenivasan to make this pretty film wit the always beautiful #Nayanthara 😘 Enjoy this movie frm today."
And finally, we have Finals, which stars Rajisha Vijayan. She garnered a lot of appreciation for her performance in June that came out earlier this year. The film, directed by debutant PR Arun, will follow the struggles of a female cyclist who prepares for 2020 Olympics. Led by Rajisha, the film also stars Suraj Venjaramoodu, Niranjan Raju, Maniyanpilla Raju, Tini Tom and Kunjan among others.
Chhichhore, It: Chapter Two, Sivappu Manjal Pachai, Mahamuni and Zombie among more will also release across India.

Ronnie and Munna are friends who work in a catering company. They come across a lot of people. They don’t know that a particular person would become a fate changer. Shiva is a psychotic and he wants to trap people with his words. How Ronnie, Munna and Shiva are connected? Watch the film to know the rest.
Star Performance
Prithviraj has done justice to the given role. Prasanna is good with his debut film as a psycho. Dharmajan, Madonna, Prayaga, Aishwarya and the rest of the stars are best in their roles.
Kalabhavan Shajon is successful in his first outing as a director. He has scripted and executed well. The character selection is perfect and the stars fit in the roles, well. The story has a lot of sub-plots with emotional connection. Prithvi has done the action sequences well too. The characters are properly designed. The film has all the emotions, including love, hate, sad, etc. Similarly, it has suspense, action, romance and comedy too. The music is fine. The cinematography and the editing are good too.
What’s There?
- The performance of the stars are impressive
- The script, screenplay and execution by Shajon
- Right choice of stars
What’s Not There?
- Traditional dialogues when a guy saves a girl
The film is good to watch once with the performance of the stars. Kalabhavan Shajon has a good future as a director.

Prithviraj has dabbled with a mix of comedy for Brother's Day's lighter moments while Prasanna stands out in the villanous character's dark hues..Brothers day. Brothers Day review. Brothers Day release. Prithviraj. Kalabhavan Shajohn. Malayalam movie
Brother's Day, the debut directorial of actor Kalabhavan Shajohn, isn't the kind of film that can be explained in a one-line story. Rather, it's a jumble of several stories that are forcefully interlinked into the narrative with a lot of loose ends. The film begins on a lighter note. The main characters are Ronnie (Prithviraj) and Munna ...
Jithu Damodar has done a good job with the camera, especially during the action sequences. The stunts are well choreographed. The movie also keeps you on the edge of your seats with its well-developed suspense. On the whole, Brother's Day is a thorough entertainer as Kalabhavan Shajon marks his spot as a good director in Malayalam cinema.
We get that somehow the film has to end.. but when it snails for more than hundred minutes and rushes out on the next sixty minutes.. it quickly falls as made up! Bottomline Kalabhavan Shajohn's Brother's Day, starring PrithviRaj, Madonna Sebastian, Aishwarya Lekshmi and Prasanna is an averagely engaging family thriller drama that takes a ...

It's a lazily written and directed film stretched to nearly three hours for some odd reason. Director: Kalabhavan Shajohn. Watched "Brother's Day" Malayalam movie other day. Bad plot, scripts, direction and total bad experience. Seems a "serial" writer wrote this plot. If a good director got this story he would have done a better job. Movie brings a array of actors and actresses, seems to waste everybody's time!

Brother's Day (2019) Malayalam Movie Review - Veeyen. Share this! It goes without saying that it's a miracle that the film makers believed that a theme as this could work wonders in 2019.
