- PONTOTOC COUNTY
I have never seen the strange things at Glenwood or Wintersmith Parks, but I can confirm there were monkeys. They were certainly not sacrificed though. As for the headlights at Kullihoma, we went looking for them and never found them. The balls of light: I have seen them multiple times in every season. There is a particular part of the area you must go to in order to see them, and it is rather creepy.
In April of 1979 a couple of clowns by the name of Charles Richard Smith and John Dewade Nixon came up with what they conceived to be a bright idea for a perfect prank to be implemented in a grand scheme for some monkey business at the expense of the Ada Police Department. Smith, experienced in the ways of larceny considered to to be a simple matter for him and Nixon to liberate a few monkeys from confinement by breaking them out of detention in a catch and release sport planned for the police station parking lot. As Richard explained to me and Tommy Smith there was considerable teeth to a resistance mounted against the plot by the poor sports involved who were totally without any sense of humor in the business at hand as they began competing with each other to see who might bring the most blood from the two jokesters, who, in fear and rage stabbed some of the poor animals to death. http://www1.odcr.com/detail.php?Case=062-CRF%207900058&County=062- CRF-1979-00058 STATE OF OKLAHOMA vs. SMITH, CHARLES RICHARD and NIXON, JOHN DEWADE CRUELTY TO ANIMALS I never heard any of the haunted tales of Pontotoc County as related here. However, when I was a freshman at Byng Highschool, and later, especially around a campfire, a favorite topic was the story of the hatchetman, an old indian ghost who was said to haunt the area around Senator Kerr's grave and cabin area. The story was that he had committed some murders with a hatchet, and as a consequence he went to his grave without tobacco, so that he roamed at night with his weapon in search of people to ask for some tobacco. As we smoked our cigarettes covertly around the campfires at night I'm sure that we viewed the smokes as a type of health safety than as a health hazard. Not a one of us wanted to be without tobacco to give to the hatchetman if he should makee a late night solicitation for some tobacco to put in his pipe, it goes without saying.
There were monkeys in ada but some drunk people broke in and let them out but a few were killed by the drunk people before the Ada PD got to them. As for the tree, i have heard what it sounded like at the time, people screaming late at night. The others, however, i haven't witnessed nor heard of the others.
When I first moved to Ada I heard about a spot by a railroad track by main I think where they used to hang people and its supposed to be very haunted. Can anyone tell me more about that?
4 men were hung there in 1909. They were thieves
There use to be monkeys at Wintersmith Park. I remember them when I moved here in 1990 we could go see them and one of them bite a kid and had to be taken out it was in the Ada Evening News look it up.and it is spooky at night in the park. I moved away in 2000 but have since moved back . I know people use to say they could hear a woman screaming near the dam area.
I remember the monkeys, never knew what happened to them though. As far as the little girl goes, I had a buddy I used to work with that told me him and some friends were getting drunk in the park in the stadium part, started hearing some girl screaming, so they got freaked out and started walking back towards the parking lot. While walking back my friend told me a little girl appeared next to him out of nowhere. He said that was the last time he saw her because they hauled ass outta there.

Close by Ada's Wintersmith Park is East Central University. I was working at the East Central University Center one summer eve in 2006, doing some maintenance. It was on a Friday and the campus was empty of students and staff. I was doing some maintenance on the swimming pool and would soon after leave campus for the weekend. I had locked the building up and was startled when I saw a young man enter the building which is unusual because the door didn't make a sound when he came in and it was locked! He was coming towards me and I greeted him but he was silent. The hair raised up on my neck when I realized the young man was a pale blue which I recognize as the color of a person that is recently having died and he was transparent. The young man also seemed unusual in that he was wearing outdated red tennis shorts from the 1980's and a white t-shirt. By then he had passed by me and walked towards the entrance by the tennis courts. Pausing by the exit to look at student pictures on the door of the student services office, he turned and walked through the exit door! That really got my attention then because that door did not open up for him to leave. And I promptly left the building and campus also. I have seen this entity since walking next to our everyday students. These students were completely unaware of his proximity!
I'm 28 now, but I remember going to see the monkeys when I was little (3-4 years old). They've just filled in the big below-ground enclosure within the last five years I believe. I noticed it was gone last year.
We were on Hwy 1 at the Kalihoma road in 1974 and saw lights in the sky keeping up with us in the car,we thought it might be a helicopter until it met a larger stationary set of light much bigger, they both just hovered in the sky. They seemed to be less than a quarter mile away, we stopped the car and got out, there was no sound and the lights never moved. After about 15 minutes we decided to leave, got a little nervous. There were 4 of us in the car, all saw the same thing.

Oklahoma, nicknamed “Sooner” for the people who broke protocol and claimed the land sooner than they were supposed to. Settlements in Oklahoma are from the Native Americans who were forced from the east coast to the plains. The name of the state “Oklahoma” means “red people”. Oklahoma is also a state rich in African American history. The black settlers moved to Oklahoma from the neighboring states. Even though segregation still existed, these settlements thrived. Until the historical Tulsa Race Riot which broke out between the blacks and the Ku Klux Klan in 1921. With the whites attacking the blacks, this ended up being the most costly, both financially and in death toll. The destruction of 35 city blocks, $1.8 million in property damage, and the death toll near 300, lasted 18 hours, is the most disturbing, cruel, violent attack . This attack was during a time of lynching. The stories rang out that vigilantes had taken over and instead of a trial, the group would take the accused from their jail cell and find the closest tree, and lynch them. At first, race was not an issue. But one day, when the tension was at an all-time high, an accused man lay in wait in a jail cell to be seen by a judge. A white mob came out to have a lynching party and the sheriff refused them this black man. When word of this spread, the entire black community came out to help the national guard. They were turned down two times this night. When they were leaving, a shot rang out and the riot began. Death was swarming everywhere. Souls were left to wander Oklahoma, souls which do not know they should have passed over Souls stuck between life and death to do the bidding of the under-lord below. The Hex House is located in the heart of south Tulsa at the southeast corner of 71st and Memorial, in Tulsa, Oklahoma (next to Incredible Pizza and across from Woodland Hills Mall). The Hex House is based on a dark and mysterious chapter in Tulsa’s history. A strange investigation unfolded in 1944 surrounding a series of strange and macabre events at the home of Carolann Smith. “The Hex House” is the name given to the case by the local media at the time of the investigation and resulting trial. The case involved such a bizarre tale that it became a local sensation before ultimately passing into Halloween legend and becoming a dark part of Tulsa’s past oft retold by teens in an effort to scare one another. The case centered around a dark mistress named Carolann Smith. She was linked with several mysterious deaths; her husband, who killed himself under mysterious circumstances by the Arkansas River and her maid, who walked directly into oncoming traffic in broad daylight in front of The Hex House (with bystanders describing her as being in a trance-like state). Carolann Smith quickly cashed in life insurance policies on both of them, arousing local suspicions of voodoo and murder. There were reports of midnight burials in the backyard of The Hex House and of strange happenings surrounding the estate. But Carolann Smith’s darkest secrets weren’t revealed until after police searched her home. Police found two women being kept and tortured in a basement under religious slavery, along with a library of books related to magic, witchcraft, religion, and mind-power. The women had reportedly been brainwashed by Carol Ann Smith and were under her control, while the diabolical Ms. Smith was extorting money from the fathers of the women under the false guise of giving them care. No one truly knows what macabre horrors took place inside the walls of The Hex House, as the testimony of the two captives was rambling at best after years of slavery, possession, and dark influences; but the pain, terror, and sheer evil permeated every brick and every board of the structure, forever leaving their dark imprint on Tulsa. For her part, Ms. Smith remained coy and stoic during the resulting trial and she was ultimately convicted of inducing perjury and of mail fraud and she served a prison sentence before disappearing into the dark annals of history without a trace. It is from the mysterious ashes of this bizarre, true story that The Hex House has risen up and returned to invite a new generation of guests into its dark, sinister hallways and ominous rooms. There is no need for movie characters or familiar scenes in The Hex House. You will feel the presence of evil from the moment you pass through the doorway and you will succumb to a terror much more intense and less predictable than anything you’ve seen on a screen. There is no spiritual safety-net inside The Hex House, as the house itself seems to tear at your soul. Carolann Smith sought to master the darkest machinations of the human mind and beyond. The forces she called forth are beyond understanding and they are still very much alive in the walls of The Hex House. When you feel the chill of a ghostly finger running down your spine, you’ll begin to question what is real and what is not… and the line between reality and horror will blur to the point of a waking nightmare. Not all who enter will emerge to tell the tale. The macabre sights and dark anxiety of the experience leave many guests searching frantically for an exit from the haunted hallways. The Hex House is not ordinary entertainment; the sheer terror of the past is brought to life and will test your inner fears. For those brave enough to survive The Hex House with their souls still intact, the nightmare isn’t over yet… Terrifying news reports have begun to surface regarding horrifying events near the Green Country Chemical Corporation industrial plant in south Tulsa. Reports vary from a possible airborne illness causing severe delusions and violent cannibalistic behavior to scattered reports of the recently deceased returning to life as bloodthirsty zombies. For those brave enough to investigate, you’ll begin at the site of the first reported attack at the GCCC industrial complex and from there you’ll be sent screaming through the heart of the infected zone, with the living dead ripping at your flesh around every corner. There is no turning back and there is no safety as you pass through the zombie-infested industrial grounds, forests, swamps, and cemetery of The Rise of the Living Dead where visceral horrors await and the next victim is… you. If the darkness takes your mind and your soul inside the haunted confines of The Hex House, it’s no worry because your body will soon be consumed as well by the flesh-eating zombies as you struggle to escape from The Rise of the Dead…

These are the five scariest haunted houses and attractions in Oklahoma
S pooky season is upon us, and for many that means gathering friends and heading to your favorite haunted house. Or, if you're feeling adventurous, maybe you try a new one every year.
If you enjoy paying a group of creepily-costumed folks to scare you as you walk down a trail or through an abandoned building, then this list is for you. Many attractions also offer food and entertainment, as well as have COVID-19 precautions in place.
1. Nightfall Haunted Territory
What: Perhaps one of the longest attractions in the area, Nightfall Haunted Territory features a 30-40 minute walk through a wooded trail at Lost Lakes off 10th street. Rad Janloo, Nightfall owner, said visitors really get the bang for their buck, with a restaurant, bar and live music on site.
There is no mixing of groups or waiting in line, he added, which makes social distancing possible. Groups will receive a number and can enjoy the food and atmosphere until it's their turn. Nightfall was voted #14 out of haunts visited by Scurry Face in 2020. The haunt is not recommended for children under 13.
When: Fridays and Saturdays in October, as well as Sunday, Oct. 17 and Halloween night. Tickets sold 6 p.m. to 11:30 p.m., and 10 p.m. on Sundays.
Where: 3501 NE 10th St, Oklahoma City, OK 73117
Admission: $25, or $40 for a speed pass.
2. Wicked Forest of Terror
What: Your fears will be confronted and senses accosted when you venture into the Wicked Forest of Terror . This Oklahoma haunted attraction boasts nearly a mile of dark forest where guests will be immersed into intense scenes. Each guest must sign a waiver due to the outdoor nature of the trail, and minors must have a parent or legal guardian present.
For an additional cost, guests can spend a few minutes inside a coffin and experience the feeling of being "buried alive," said Brad Wickwire, Wicked Forest co-owner along with his wife Stephanie.
For those with younger children, experience the Tiny Terror between 6 and 6:45 p.m. on the last two Saturdays in October. Recommended for children under 13, parents and kids can walk through the forest at their own pace with no actors.
Masks will be available for those that would like one.
When: Fridays and Saturdays Sept. 24 through Oct. 2, Friday through Sunday Oct. 8 through Oct. 17, and Thursday through Sunday Oct. 21 through Oct. 31. Tickets sold 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.
Where: 9420 W I-40 Service Rd, Oklahoma City, OK 73128
Admission: $25, or $35 for speed pass, $55 for instant pass, and $90 for a wicked pass, which includes going behind the scenes. Guests receive $5 off opening night, and military and first responders receive $5 off Oct. 1.
3. Guthrie Haunts Scaregrounds
What: This attraction has both indoor and outdoor scenes in its haunt, which is about a 25-30 minute experience recommended for ages 13 and up. Began in 2020, the "Scare Fair" is back this year, an outdoor midway with live performers, food and drinks.
The midway was started as a COVID-19 precaution to avoid waiting in line, and Guthrie Haunts Scaregrounds owner John Pagonis said it was such a success they will continue to have it. Groups — which will not be mixed — will receive a number and enjoy the entertainment while they wait.
There are a few ways to customize the experience to your taste, Pagonis said. There is an option to pay a lower admission price to just experience the midway or you can upgrade to allow actors to touch you. For those that are sensitive to strobe lights, or just want a darker experience, Nov. 5 and 6 are "blackout nights," where all the lights will be off and groups will be provided a flashlight to explore the haunt.
When: Fridays and Saturdays Sept. 10 through Nov. 6, plus Halloween night. Ticket sales from 7 to 11 p.m.
Where: 4524 Riverside Circle, Guthrie, OK 73044
Admission: General admission $20, or midway-only "Scaredy-Cat" pass $10. Upgrade to a touch pass — for ages 18 and up — for an additional $10, and a fast pass for an additional $20.
4. Noble Scaregrounds
What: Head south to Noble Scaregrounds for the "Sweet Nightmares" forest trail, delicious concession, axe throwing and even a seance. This is the second year for this haunt, having skipped 2020 due to the pandemic. The trail takes about 15-20 minutes, "depending on how fast you run," said owner Matt Achemire. Parental discretion is encouraged when it comes to bringing children, Achemire said.
For an additional charge, guests can experience the seance, where Professor Percival Blackwood, an occult detective and historian, will attempt to contact the spirits to uncover the truth behind the mysterious death of British aristocrat Philip Hazlemere.
Along with the food and entertainment, guests can take home gifts and goods from Spellbound Souvenirs and The Light Within, and will see the "Jester" roaming the grounds, showing off his magic and sleight of hand tricks. Because of the pandemic, social distancing is encouraged, some actors have incorporated masks into their costumes, and masks and hand sanitizer are available for visitors, Achemire said.
When: Fridays and Saturdays in October, plus Halloween night. Tickets sold 7:30 to 11 p.m. Séance showtimes are 8:30, 9:30 and 10:30.
Where: 14501 Etowah Road, Noble, OK 73068
Admission: Sweet Nightmares, $15. Séance, $10
5. Fright Fest
What: Come early and enjoy a typical day at the amusement park, and stay after dark for the chills and thrills of Frontier City's annual Fright Fest.
There are several haunted attractions to choose from, like the Cirkus Berzerkus and the Nightmare, as well as the new Garden of Evil. There are also Scare Zones throughout the park, live performances and rides at dark with the chance of a monster in the seat next to you.
Costumes are allowed for those 10 and under, and there is no park re-entry after 9 p.m.
When: Weekends Sept. 24 through Oct. 31. Days and hours vary, the schedule can be viewed here .
Where: Frontier City, 11501 N I- 35 Service Rd, Oklahoma City, OK 73131
Admission: A Fright Pass is $14.99, in addition to park admission.
