15 Locations In GTA That Are Actually Scary
GTA is known for being action-packed and sprawling, but there are a few haunted and eerie locations in the games that are actually pretty scary.
The Grand Theft Auto series is undoubtedly one of the most influential and iconic video game series of all time. Grand Theft Auto 3 and subsequent games in the series have constantly pushed the boundaries of open-world gaming with various locales, interesting stories, hilarious characters, and everything else along the same lines.

However, not everything is handled with the classic GTA comedic twist that we're all familiar with — some areas in the game are downright terrifying, especially if you happen upon them without any prior warning. Here are some locations in Grand Theft Auto that are bound to send shivers down your spine.
Updated on April 14, 2023, by David Kinder: Even though the Grand Theft Auto series hasn't dived completely into the paranormal, there are many places that could easily be mistaken for horror sets. Whether through overt references or suspicious designs, GTA can slap you with a creepy location. Years of internet rumors have fueled the fear that these places are haunted and outright malicious. What you should really worry about is your imagination. It can make your mind play tricks on you. However, it only takes an audio or visual glitch to make the Abandoned Hospital a permanent nightmare.
15 Colony Island Hospital (GTA 4)
During the day, the abandoned hospital near the southern end of Colony Island is unassuming, but like any horror film, the hospital becomes much creepier and unnerving at night. This hospital is familiar to players mainly since one of the hardest Grand Theft Auto 4 missions takes place here — The Snow Storm.
Colony Island is based on the real-life Roosevelt Island, famous for the Smallpox Hospital. While you won't find any ghosts of past asylum patients, you'll definitely be creeped out by the general atmosphere. Nothing screams: "Let's do this another day," like a creepy old hospital.
14 Blaine County Motel (GTA 5)
The Abandoned Blaine County Motel is like many of the dozens of dilapidated buildings in Blaine County. Boarded-up windows are no big deal, usually. However, the motel becomes more distressing once you take a look around.
Accessible rooms are filled with trash and in complete disrepair. It seems like a post-apocalyptic wasteland, but the world outside is still running like normal. There have even been claims of unsettling noises and paranormal NPCs, but they're just rumors.
13 Ghost Town (GTA 3)
Grand Theft Auto 3 marked a massive transformation for the series, with the shift to a 3D open-world setting being a catalyst for the success of this series. After a prison break, players were thrust into the dizzying world of Liberty City. However, there is another city present in the game.
Related: Creepiest Cities In Video Games
This Ghost Town can be encountered by flying the lone plane in the game, the Dodo. It's an incomplete region meant solely for the opening cinematic. The fact that there's no collision detection for this area makes the Ghost Town even scarier.
12 The Amityville House (GTA 4)
The Amityville House is easily one of the scariest locations in real life. So, it's only a given that a series like GTA would also pay homage to this haunting area.
You can find this legendary house in Alderney. While you won't be attacked by ghosts, some players have claimed you can hear sinister dialogue inside the house. Even then, it's still creepy. The general vibe of that lifeless house is unsettling enough for most people.
11 Vinewood Cemetery (GTA 5)
Cemeteries are creepy in any video game. Some developers try to hide zombies and other monsters in the background. Fortunately, there's nothing like that, but the creepiest part about Vinewood Cemetery has to be the empty grave with a pistol.
Rockstar's desire to make each of their open worlds feel lived in can make a lot of areas unsettling. Not knowing why something is there makes your mind run with possibilities. Some players have claimed that this grave is a reference to Grand Theft Auto San Andreas , where CJ and Sweet's mom is buried.
10 Inside The Statue Of Happiness (GTA 4)
Grand Theft Auto 4 has one of the most absurd Easter eggs in the entirety of gaming and one of the most horrifying due to its implication. The Heart Of Liberty City has to be seen to be believed, but you may regret that choice.
This Easter egg is inside the Statue Of Happiness. You need to land directly at the base of the statue, which is no easy task. After going past a fake door, players can climb the ladder to witness a beating heart. It's also a nod to Edgar Allan Poe's Tell-Tale Heart.
9 Mount Gordo (GTA 5)
The ghost of Mount Gordo is a definite shock for unprepared players. Once you complete the questline for Jolene Cranley-Evans, a small surprise is waiting at the mountaintop. In the middle of the night, with a sniper rifle, you can look down the scope near the peak to see Jolene Cranley-Evans's ghost.
RELATED: Hidden Missions Fans Missed In Grand Theft Auto 5
You might get jumped scared, so keep that in mind. The good news is that the ghost disappears if you try to get close. It's obviously not the reward anyone would expect after solving a cold case.
8 Back O' Beyond Woods (GTA San Andreas)
The Back O' Beyond Woods in Grand Theft Auto San Andreas is an iconic location infamous for Bigfoot myths and the illusive Ghost Cars. While the Bigfoot mission was a hoax, there are still some eerie things about this place. The nighttime fog paints a different picture.
If you're roaming in the woods, a random car will roll towards them without anyone in the driver's seat. Ghost cars are a glitch but mostly a design oversight. The vehicles are "moving towards you" because they spawn on a hill and begin to roll down when you get near them.
7 Abandoned Sprunk Factory (GTA 4)
Grand Theft Auto 4 remade Liberty City with its fair share of creepy locations and occurrences. One such location is the Abandoned Sprunk Factory, with numerous fan theories. Players have stated that they've seen alligators and ghosts roaming the area, although that has never been proven.
While New York allegedly has sewer gators, Liberty City doesn't. The random screaming does actually occur. However, it only happens when a person fires a gun. Due to how sound works in GTA 4, the hobos under the building will hear the gunshots and scream out of horror.
6 Apartment 3C (GTA Vice City)
Crime films like Scarface inspired Grand Theft Auto Vice City , so it was inevitable that a bunch of references to the movie would make their appearance here. There's a limited amount of buildings you can enter, so being able to enter Apartment 3c was a big surprise.
If you choose to enter, there's horrifying sight waiting in the bathroom. The bathroom walls are stained with blood, along with a chainsaw pick-up — an obvious nod to the iconic murder scene of Angel in Scarface.
5 Abandoned Mine Shaft (GTA 5)
The Abandoned Mine Shaft in Grand Theft Auto 5 was originally inaccessible in early copies. With the release of the Enhanced Version, players could destroy the boards guarding the main entrance and explore this eerie location.
RELATED: GTA 5: Fun Facts And Trivia You Need To Know About The Game
The scene that greets them is quite horrifying: a well-preserved, wrinkled corpse wearing a vintage pinstripe suit. It's part of Michael's Murder Mystery story. It's also an homage to the seedier and shadier history of the Golden Age of Hollywood.
4 Harbour 'Hobo Tunnel' (GTA 3)
The Hobo Tunnel in Grand Theft Auto 3 sparked many rumors back in the day. Its existence has never been explained, which makes the mystery behind the tunnels all the more intriguing. The easy answer is that Rockstar wanted to make Liberty City more realistic.
However, the worst part about this area is that the only people in the location are four hobos facing each other with molotovs, who do nothing. There have been attempts at explaining why they're there, such as deleted missions and forgotten Easter eggs. The lack of activity makes it all the stranger.
3 El Castillo Del Diablo (GTA San Andreas)
San Andreas has many Easter eggs , but some are just outright creepy. One notable Easter egg is in El Castillo Del Diablo. At first glance, it's a bunch of rock formations. At the center, there's a mass grave.
The fact that this place is close to both Las Brujas, a ghost town, and Area 69 has led to people believing that the government took the residents of Las Brujas, experimented on them, and disposed of failures in this mass grave. It could also allude to mobs in Las Vegas disposing of victims.
2 Merle Abrahams' House (GTA 5)
The Infinity Killer from Grand Theft Auto 5 is easily one of the most twisted and messed up sidequests in the entire game. It wasn't the first time and wouldn't be the last time since Red Dead Redemption 2 and Grand Theft Auto 4 also feature a serial killer sidequest.
The Killer's home is charred and abandoned, with disturbing graffiti all over the wall related to the number eight. There's also a set of tally marks counting to 15, which could be anything from a victim counting his final days to his child's age (in days or years).
1 Mount Chiliad (GTA 5)
Years of fan speculation and myth-busting Mount Chiliad led to one of the most amazing yet fascinating experiences in GTA 5. Many people thought the mural involved jetpacks, Bigfoot, aliens, and a government conspiracy. It was a message for the player to 100 percent the game and reach the peak during a storm.
Upon meeting the above conditions, players will be able to witness a UFO in the distance, which is quite jarring, to say the least. The moment feels like the ending of Close Encounters of the Third Kind. You can't help but feel like something bad is going to happen.

All GTA Online Ghosts Exposed Ghost Locations (Halloween 2023)
Looking for a paranormal experience? You've come to the right place! This guide will detail where to find all the ghosts in the GTA Online "Ghosts Exposed" Halloween event. Oh — and the best part? You'll get to unlock a special ghostly livery for the brand-new Albany Brigham.
Need more convincing? We thought not. This latest event comes courtesy of the San Andreas Mercenaries DLC and is definitely not one you want to miss! So, get ready to embrace your inner spirit chaser as we detail all the ghost locations in the GTA Online Halloween 2023 event.
Table of Contents
What is the ghosts exposed event in gta online, all ghost locations in ghosts exposed event, albany brigham ghosts exposed livery.
Before we begin, you might ask: What is the Ghosts Exposed event? In short, it's a new Halloween event that invites players to embark on a ghost hunt. During this event, players must snap photos of ten elusive ghosts concealed within Los Santos and Blaine County.
The apparitions eventually lead to the discovery of Johnny Klebitz's ghost, a character from GTA V, breathing life into the eerie lore of the Grand Theft Auto V universe. Players will be rewarded with cash and a special Halloween-themed item for participating (more on that later).
Rockstar Games' official GTA Online Weekly Update blog post read as follows:
The Halloween festivities continue with the introduction of three new deathmatches, UFO Business Battles, encounters with Phantom Cars, and more starting this week. Players can also help local paranormal investigators, Ghosts Exposed, track down photographic evidence of apparitions.
Where To Find All Ghosts In GTA Online Ghosts Exposed Event
Alright, enough waffling. There are exactly ten ghost locations in the Ghosts Exposed event of GTA Online, all of which are mostly scattered across the northern part of the map, around the Blaine County region.
Like most spooks, you can only find these ghouls in the nighttime. To be more specific, the ghosts will appear between 8 PM and 6 PM in-game time , in hourly intervals. You must find them in the order displayed in the image above.
Still struggling to find all the ghost locations in GTA Online. I get it — my descriptions suck — but truth be told, I tried my best. So, if you need a visual walkthrough, check out the video below by YouTuber GTA Series Videos.
What Are The GTA Online Ghosts Exposed Rewards?
Finding all ten ghosts in the GTA Online Ghosts Exposed event will reward you handsomely. Specifically, you'll get 5,000 RP and GTA$ 20,000 for every ghost located, plus a bonus of GTA$ 50,000 for finding them all. That totals GTA$ 250,000. Not a bad payday, if you ask me.
But that's not all. Snapping photos of all ten ghosts in the Halloween 2023 event in GTA Online will also reward you with a special Ghosts Exposed livery for the Albany Brigham .
It basically transforms this 50s-style hurse into the bad-ass Ghostbusters Ectomobile ghost-hunting automobile. Pretty cool, eh?
The Albany Brigham is a four-door coach wagon that retails at GTA$ 1,499,000 at the Southern San Andreas Super Autos in GTA Online, making it well worth kitting out this Halloween.
The car's in-game description reads:
Back in the 50's, the Albany Brigham was the perfect car for any stage of life. A respectable Sunday strolling wagon for the white picket newlyweds, an ambulance for when you were horrifically disfigured in a preventable accident, and when you didn't make it to the hospital in time, a very dignified hearse. And like you tell your grandpa, all those skills are all completely transferable to the modern economy.
And that's everything you need to know about the Ghosts Exposed event in GTA Online. We hope you found this guide useful. Want more cool content? Check out the section below for more Grand Theft Auto news, guides, and tutorials.

The ghosts are mentioned to exist by characters from both the 3D Universe and the HD Universe through talk shows interviews, in-game websites and other pedestrian dialogue, but only physically appearing as secrets in the HD Universe.
They usually appear as invulnerable props (either a 2D texture or a 3D model) in the form of a "zombified" character model in standing posture. All of the ghosts appearing in the series share the same appearance – floating in mid-air, invisible hands and feet, featuring glowing eyes and slowed voice with an echo effect. They are not hostile to the player and fade away if the player gets close enough.
Hostile vehicles possessed by ghosts appear in seasonal Halloween Random Events in GTA Online .

Originally posted by V I D A L : Originally posted by Iggy Wolf : Funny thing you should say that, because in GTA V, a mod that lets you access North Yankton shows Yankton to be all the way up in the sky, southeast of Los Santos but beyond the game boundary (and not actually visible) but still present in the game world. Although I guess to be fair, it was a fair portion of the playable prologue so I guess they couldn't just make a separate game world for it. That said, it's always unloaded from memory unless one uses the mod that loads it in and takes them to the location. I figure if Rockstar does still have Ghost Town in GTA 3, it would be there as an Easter Egg and not because they couldn't have it purely for a cutsene.

It's a glitch. Of course Yankton wasn't there before otherwise you would easily see it while playing the game. The glitch causes the town to respawn.. doesn't mean it's sitting there at all times while you're playing because it's not even out of boundaries or hidden. It appears right there in plain sight next to the main map.

GTA Online Ghost locations guide for Ghost Exposed collectables
GTA Online Ghost locations guide for all the Ghost Exposed collectables that Rockstar Games just added to the game.
As part of this year’s Halloween celebrations within GTA Online, Rockstar Games have launched an in-game Ghost hunt. The hunt offers rewards of $250,000 GTA Online cash, RP and even a Ghostbusters inspired livery. This livery is for the latest vehicle added to GTA Online, the Albany Brigham . This event even brings back a character from GTA IV and GTA V as a Ghost…
At this moment in time, there is no set end date to this event but don’t expect to be around for too long after October 31st which is Halloween. Thankfully this Ghost Hunt won’t take you too long as there are only 10 Ghosts to find and they’re all fairly easily found.
Ghost hunting details you need to know
When you log-into GTA Online for the first time since Thursday, you’ll be greeted with this email Ghost Exposed. They explain they are offering rewards for submissions of Ghosts in Blaine County.
Now you can get on with hunting these Ghosts. According to GTA Series , the cooldown is 1 second, so as soon as you load into a lobby. The Ghosts will show up in fixed order between 8pm and 6am in-game time.
On each hour, a Ghost will appear for 2 minutes at one of two positions within a certain area. This gives you just a short window to capture your Snapmatic of the Ghost before moving onto the next one. We’d recommend using a quick vehicle such as the Oppressor to get to point to point. You can do 9 of then in any order but the 10th one shows up only upon taking pictures of all 9.
You’ll know if your photo has been successful because the Ghost will disappear and the pop-up displaying your progress will appear on screen.
Below are all of the locations and times of each of the Ghosts credit to GTA Series .
Ghost 1 (8pm-9pm) – At either the font or rear of the barn located in Grapeseed.
Ghost 2 (9pm-10pm) – In a window at either side of the trailer in Sandy Shores.
Ghost 3 (10pm-11pm) – Either inside or outside of this bus located in San Chianski Mountain Range.
Ghost 4 (11pm-12am) – At the top or just outside of the lighthouse to the east.

Each photo will grant you $20,000 GTA Online cash and 500RP. Upon taking all 10 photos successfully, you will receive GTA$50,000 bonus and the Ghosts Exposed livery for the Albany Brigham .

The " Ghost Town " is an area in Liberty City in Grand Theft Auto III not intended to be accessible during normal gameplay. It is used in the introduction of GTA III , in which Claude helps Catalina rob the Bank of Liberty , is betrayed, and shot. The name of the area was coined by fans due to the inaccessibility and non-solid property of the area. The area is sometimes mistakenly associated to Carcer City , however in a Q&A with Rockstar Games, it was stated that "Ghost Town" is actually just a part of Liberty City, since the islands shown in Grand Theft Auto III are only some of Liberty City as a whole.
The "Ghost Town" area is located beneath the northern side of the Shoreside Vale hills. The area is normally inaccessible but can be accessed by flying a Dodo or through the use of cheats . The majority of the area is not solid, except for a few cardboard boxes and light fixtures, so it is impossible to explore the area deeply without the use of trainers or modifications. The area does not exist in the Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories rendition of Liberty City.
The area contains a Liberty City Bank , some stores, apartments, and a Mr. Wongs , an Esperanto , and three Securicars parked on one street. The area is noticeably more detailed than most of Liberty City ; the alley behind the bank contains dumpsters, cardboard boxes, and various items of garbage strewn across the ground. Most of the apartments above the alley and street also feature air conditioning units on the windows. The sidewalks have a few street lights and parking signs.

Ghost Town Figure
- View history
The Ghost Town Figure myth was made famous a short time after the release of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas , when players have reported seeing a strange black figure walking around the Ghost Town at night. The figure is said to disappear suddenly if the player gets too close. There are various pictures and videos online showing what players think the Ghost Town figure is.

Description [ ]
Most accounts of the Ghost Town figure are generally the same. Players usually describe the figure to be an old lady. In fact, most of the online videos of the so-called Ghost Town Figure show the figure walking with a lady's walking animation. It is possible that the Ghost Town Figure is just an ordinary woman pedestrian with a black texture. Other players have even claimed that the Ghost Figure carries a chainsaw .
If the one listens to the police radio inside any law enforcement vehicle long enough, there is sometimes a report from a policeman that says "We got a hysterical old woman in Las Brujas. Says she's a witch or something." However, this may just be a pun on the English translation of Las Brujas , which is The Witches .
With all that in mind, there is another, more believable theory. In the mission High Noon, Officer Jimmy Hernandez supposedly gets killed when Eddie Pulaski fired at him. However many say that he was not killed as in the grave that CJ dug, Hernandez's body does not appear. It is possible the ghost town figure is possibly Hernandez. An even spookier fact is that while doing the mission High Noon Hernandez's body will still not appear when you check it. However, more references are for the witch as there is a radio call for it on a police vehicle and the small town itself is named The Witches . This myth also includes a reference to another myth. If you look at the cemetery in the town you will notice there are 6 graves. But not far away there is a Bobcat and 6 body bags in a large dug up hole. Another theory states that long before when the town was filled with life a witch was executed there and she swore to return in the future. However, most of the encounters are modifications or photoshopped or just a simple pedestrian with a black texture.

- The way the Ghost Figure is claimed to act is similar to the way the nicknamed "Grey Man" or "Shadow Man" from the game LSD Dream Emulator acts.
- Ghost Town Figure is similar to a later GTA myth, the Jolene Cranley-Evans' Ghost . They both are ghostly figures of females that are found in desolate location and disappears when the player gets too close. Creepier, they both appear at the same time: 23:00.
