The Lands Between Map

Nokstella, eternal city and the lake of rot.

Nokstella, Eternal City and the Lake of Rot is a larger underground region and hybrid dungeon found in the Liurnia Region in Elden Ring. It is an optional underground area slightly more linear than the overworld, but keeps many of its core mechanics - such as fast travel and the restoration of flasks upon defeating enemy groups persist whilst underground. This page contains information on the location, walkthrough, and guide to traverse this area, locate all of its treasure, and tips to defeat the enemies within.

  • How to Get to Nokstella, Eternal City

Nokstella, Eternal City

Lake of rot, boss fight - astel, naturalborn of the void, moonlight altar, how to get to nokstella, eternal city.

Even though it is part of the Ainsel River , this place cannot be accessed the first time you explore the underground river well. You will need to progress Ranni's Questline after defeating Starscourge Radahn by exploring Nokron, Eternal City to find the item Ranni desires.

Renna's Rise.jpg

With the Fingerslayer Blade acquired from Night's Sacred Ground within Nokron, Eternal City , return to Ranni's Rise in northern Liurnia (behind Caria Manor) and speak to Ranni to give her the blade. Keep talking to her and she will give you the Carian Inverted Statue , which allows you to access the rest of the Carian Study Hall and the Divine Tower of Liurnia.

After obtaining this, head down the tower and go to Renna's Rise (the northern-most of the three towers) and at the top will be a waygate. Interact with it to travel to Ainsel River Main, where you can activate the Site of Grace there.

Waygate to Ainsel River Main.jpg

Just before the Site of Grace is a Miniature Ranni doll in a coffin, alongside several Silver Firefly around the water stream that you can collect. Continuing forward, you'll come across another Malformed Star in the distance to the right, and a few Clayman warriors patrolling.

Ainsel River Main.jpg

There are dozens of Dewkissed Herba plants dotted amongst the various bushes here, as well as a couple of corpses on the left, one in the water holding a Golden Rune and the one on the stone floor to the left that holds Human Bone Shard . There are also a couple of Ghost Glovewort (6) plants across the water from the Malformed Star, so if you take out the Malformed Star with ranged combat you can traverse the entire area and grab these things with ease.

Ainsel Main Malformed.jpg

Heading to the left, following the water stream, you'll find a corpse with a Smithing Stone (4) , and beyond that a Giant Miranda Flower and 4 smaller Miranda Flowers, as well as a couple of Clayman spearmen. They are guarding a corpse that holds a Stonesword Key , and tucked in the back right corner by the waterfall is another Ghost Glovewort (6) plant.

Backtracking to the structure the Malformed Star was protecting, tucked behind the left statue is a Ghost Glovewort (6) and (7) plants, as well as another (7) plant on the right-hand side once you enter and deal with the Clayman sorcerer.

Ainsel Main Structure.jpg

Move down the slope beyond the structure, and there are a number of Formic Rock deposits lining either side of the passageway, as well as two Giant Ants lingering on the ceiling. Those being dealt with, you'll enter another room of bones and viscera, with multiple Winged Ants. There are two corpses you can sneak up to and loot; one holds a Golden Rune (10) and the other Shield Grease .

Ainsel Main Shield Ant.jpg

Defeating the two Winged Ants, head down the slope on the left to fight an Armored Ant, where you will want to get behind its shielded head to deal better damage to its body. Continue down the tunnel past the Armored Ant to emerge on a ledge high above the room with the first Malformed Star. There will be two spellcasters here so be careful not to get caught or blown off the ledge by any of their spells; lure them back into the tunnel to be extra safe.

Ainsel Main Astel Spellcasters.jpg

Curving round to the right, carefully follow the path and drop down to continue and you'll spot a chest sitting atop the structure to the left. Carefully jump over and in the chest is the Wing of Astel sword. You can also take the higher path to loot the corpse that you will have seen after dealing with the spellcasters to gain a Somber Smithing Stone (6) .

Ainsel Main Astel Chest.jpg

Head back up through the tunnel and turn left following the water down to arrive at another well-lit structure. Grab the Ghost Glovewort (6) plant down by the grates, then take the steps up on the left to pass through into Nokstella, Eternal City.

Ainsel Main Structure B4 Nokstella.jpg

To the right of the Site of Grace is a Swordstress riding a Giant Ant, patrolling the water near a Ghost Glovewort (7) plant.

Heading up the stairs on the left, turn left after the first flight and fight the Swordstress in the small building, and to the right you'll find a chest that contains the Ant's Skull Plate shield. Up the next flight of steps will be another Swordstress and a number of electrified Silver Tears. Curve around to the left to find another small room filled with four shielded Silver Tears guarding a chest containing a Ghost-Glovewort Picker's Bell Bearing (2) . Backing out of this room, turn left and loop around the side of the building, following the path to find a corpse at the dead end that holds the Archer Ashes .

Nokstella Tear Ambush Corridor.jpg

Progress along the arched corridor and as you grab the Golden Rune (10) off the corpse hanging from the ledge on the right, a Silver Tear will drop from the ceiling and temporarily absorb you. Halfway down the corridor you can enter an opening on the left, which upon entering a Silver Tear will drop from the ceiling and try to absorb you. The chest in this room holds a Somber Smithing Stone (7) . At the end of the corridor is a corpse holding another Golden Rune (10).

Nokstella Boulder Bridge.jpg

Passing up the stairs on the left you'll note across the large bridge to the right is a Living Boulder that will roll down towards you, and like the one in Nokron, killing it will grant you a Larval Tear. Loop around the back end of the building to your left to find an Imp Seal, behind which are two Swordstresses and a chest that holds the Nightmaiden & Swordstress Puppets Ashes.

Nokstella Imp Seal.jpg

Progress through the western opening and up the stairs to reach a room with two visible Silver Tears and a Swordstress. These Silver Tears will transform into warriors, one with a greatsword and the other a shield and spear. You can draw them out one at a time with ranged attacks, which is advised as to prevent you getting overwhelmed as they are incredibly aggressive. Once they and the Swordstress have been dealt with, the chest behind them contains the Moon of Nokstella . Curve around the right side of this giant throne to grab a Nascent Butterfly .

Nokstella Final Staircase.jpg

On the left side of the room, walk through the passageway and head down the slope to a lift. Ride the lift down and in front of you, you will see a Golden Seed tree. From here it is recommended to fast travel back to the Nokstella, Eternal City Site of Grace.

Nokstella Golden Seed.jpg

In the ruins to the north is a corpse with Drawstring Holy Grease , and another with a Smithing Stone (6) . Swordstresses will be nearby, so be careful. In an alcove just beyond the ruins are three Snails defending a corpse holding a Celestial Dew . If you follow the water downstream you'll come to a number of Silver Tears, more Snails on the right lining the building, and a Swordstress on an Ant.

Nokstella Water Path.jpg

Many of these Silver Tears are electrified, and once defeated with explode with a small AOE electric sphere. These can start a chain reaction, so use that to your advantage to deal with a number of Silver Tears and the Swordstress and Ant without too much of a fight. On the left by the grates you'll find a Ghost Glovewort (8) , and near the rocks on the right is a corpse with a Golden Rune (10) . Continuing northwest, dealing with the projectile firing Silver Tears on the ridge (that require getting behind to bypass their shield), there will be more electrified Silver Tears and three Giant Ants on the right alongside a number of Formic Rock deposits. Just beyond the Ants, to the northwest, is a corpse that holds a Stonesword Key .

You'll come upon a stone structure with blue flames to the left, but first head past it to an arched structure near the waterfall to face a group of Silver Tears. The corpse they are guarding holds a Celestial Dew .

Nokstella Lift Structure.jpg

By entering the stone structure on the left of the water stream (pictured above), you can ride a lift down to a new Site of Grace that is beneath the waterfall of the arena you found the Dragonkin Soldier of Nokstella in. Tucked to the left you'll find a Ghost Glovewort (9) plant, and through the tunnel to the south you'll find three Basilisks guarding two corpses holding a Smithing Stone (4) and (5) respectively.

Baleful Shadow.jpg

At the end of the tunnel, it will open out into a red-tinged chamber where a red spirit of Blaidd will spawn as a Baleful Shadow. Ranni will speak to you, having previously tasked you with defeating these Baleful Shadows after repeatedly talking to the Miniature Ranni doll at a Site of Grace, and upon defeating Blaidd (who can inflict Bleed and use their own Crimson Tear Flasks), Ranni will thank you and you'll receive the Discarded Palace Key .

Head up the steps to the right and ride the lift down to arrive at the Lake of Rot Shoreside Site of Grace. Down the slope to the right is a corpse that holds the Map: Lake of Rot .

An initially daunting area, the entirety of this zone inflicts the Scarlet Rot status effect, which once the bar is maximized, will deplete your health, and far faster than regular poison.

Lake of Rot Pillar.jpg

The best strategy upon first arrival is to spend as many of your runes as possible and keep your Health flasks stocked. Though Preserving Boluses can alleviate Scarlet Rot, on your first journey across this space you'll essentially be wasting resources by using them. Sprint southwest to the closest pillar. On that platform is a pressure plate, and will raise a section of pathway to make future traversal easier. Continue doing so heading south/southwest, running from pillar to pillar activating the pressure plates and topping up your depleting health when necessary.

Lake of Rot Main Structure.jpg

When you reach the giant stone structure built into the cliff face on the south wall, descend down the steps on the left-hand side through the main doors to reach a Site of Grace. With this, you can teleport between different sides of the Lake of Rot with ease, and alleviate your Scarlet Rot infliction.

Lake of Rot Western Structure.jpg

From there, head back up the stairs and sprint to the west, where you'll see a smaller stone structure, inside of which is a chest that contains the Nomadic Warrior's Cookbook 22 . Back at the Site of Grace within the structure, descend the steps then jump across on the right to the destroyed ledge. Cross the gaps and round the back is a corpse with a Golden Rune (10) . Heading back to the other side, drop down through the gap and on the lower level is a Golden Centipede . Continuing to drop down, as you reach ground level you'll encounter a number of Lesser Kindred of Rot.

Cloister Drop Down.jpg

You can choose to either face them or run past them, and up the steps in the building to the west is a chest containing Scorpion's Stinger weapon. Back down the steps, turn right and sprint to the coffin at the edge in the center of the waterfall and interact with it to be teleported to a secret boss.

Cloister Coffin.jpg

A hyper aggressive Malformed Star, Astel will likely take a number of attempts due to the sheer ferocity of its attacks, and the variety of moves it can perform.

Entering the arena through the mist wall, Astel will likely open the fight with a giant beam that it summons between its mandibles. This attack, like many others that Astel uses, requires slightly delayed reactions to avoid. For example, this beam is built up as Astel rears its head backwards, then angles it down to target you, and you'll need to wait a second or so with Astel in that state to dodge it as it fires.

Astel.jpg

Astel uses its tail like a scorpion, swiping from over its head, performing two slam attacks. Astel slightly raises into the air as it prepares for the slams, and like the beam, you'll need to dodge later than you'd expect, once Astel has landed again to sync up with the tail coming down.

The majority of Astels attacks revolve around the use of Gravitational energy; summoning purple spheres with cosmic-looking trails to it. These are either in the form of swipes with its hands, leaving a vapour trail behind it that explodes after a short delay. If caught in this vapour trail, you'll have enough time to escape if you roll in the appropriate direction out of the path of the trail.

Because, particularly if you're a melee character, you'll be spending most of your time underneath Astel's abdomen, it has a number of punishing attacks if you get too greedy. These play out as either Astel summoning these purple spheres in its hands and slamming them into the ground, sending out pulsing waves of energy that will knock you down should they hit you. You can roll through each of these waves, but that requires pinpoint timing to try not to panic if you're beneath Astel and you see it preparing an attack. Another is Astel creating a gravity well in a circle around itself, which you'll notice by small rocks beginning to float in that vicinity. After a few seconds, everything in that circle will begin levitating before Astel slams it back down to the ground. This can be an insta-kill move, so sprint from the radius and begin running back in the second the slam hits the ground.

Astel also has some mandible attacks that occur if you linger in front of it; one regular two-move bite, and a super-charged variant that is signalled by blue energy lining its mandibles. If caught by this, Astel will raise you into the air, and almost always acts as an insta-kill as it slams you back into the floor.

If Astel hunches over and a sphere begins appearing and pulsing above its body, it is about to teleport away to a different section of the arena. As it does so however, the sphere will explode outwards, so sprint away as it begins to do this. You will also want to keep your head on a swivel for where it spawns, because if you don't immediately see a new sphere signalling Astel's arrival, it's about to perform an arena-wide lunge attack from above that, if caught in its mandibles, results in an instant kill. Roll at the last moment towards Astel if it does this to avoid the move connecting.

Astel Comets.jpg

At around 50% health, Astel can rear its head back as cosmic portals appear behind it. As the portals begin pulsing, they will repeatedly fire comets at you, raining down for a few seconds. No amount of range will protect you from these comets targeting you, so you'll need to roll for your life as the comets begin emerging from the portals.

Upon defeating Astel, Naturalborn of the Void, you'll earn the Remembrance of the Naturalborn .

Darkmoon Ring Loc.jpg

Should you have obtained the Dark Moon Ring by using the key from defeating the Baleful Shadow on the chest next to Rennala in Raya Lucaria, the north end of the arena will be unlocked for you to traverse. Head up the slope and ride the lift up to arrive at the Moonlight Altar.

Moonlight Altar.jpg

Heading up to the Cathedral of Manus Celes, you'll need to defeat Glintstone Dragon Adula . Upon defeating Adula, you'll earn Dragon Heart x3 and Adula's Moonblade weapon. Then head inside the Cathedral, activate the Site of Grace then drop down through the hole in the floor from platform to platform on the right-hand side. Then proceed through the tunnel to reach Ranni who has slain an instance of the Two Fingers with the Fingerslayer Blade you provided. Interact with Ranni to place the Dark Moon Ring on her finger, it will fully free her from her bindings. She will thank you and claim to meet you again at the end. You'll then receive the Dark Moon Greatsword .

Elden Ring: How to Get Ghost Glovewort 7, 8, 9 & What They’re Used For

Spirit ashes getting stomped on? Ghost glovewort will sort it right out.

Avatar photo

Spirit ashes can give you a considerable advantage in Elden Ring , but as you progress further into the game, you’ll eventually need to upgrade them so they don’t outlive their usefulness. Named spirit ashes can be upgraded with items called Ghost Gloveworts, which can be found all over the Lands Between. Here’s how to get Ghost Glovewort 7, 8, and 9 in Elden Ring.

Getting Ghost Glovewort 7 in Elden Ring

Here are all the locations where you can pick up Ghost Glovewort 7:

  • At the entrance of the ruins in the north, near the two large statues.
  • Behind one of the two large statues at the entrance of the north ruin.
  • Near the wall behind the Malformed Star, on the right side of the ruins after passing the Malformed Star.
  • Behind the Malformed Star mini-boss and to the Southeast, where the cave and gate meet.
  • In the northwest region, near Crucible Knight Siluria.
  • Near the hole where the Prince of Death’s Cyst is located.
  • At the base of the waterfall.
  • Found just north of the waterfall, on the riverbank in Nokstella River
  • Up the steps from the alcove connecting to the first Chariot hallway.
  • This one is tricky. It’s located beneath the first lift from the main path. Step on the lift and then quickly step back to reveal a hidden second lift. Take this to the lowest levels of the catacombs and go past the Lesser Burial Watchdog until you see a frost breath trap. Go past the first frost breath trap, and you’ll see another one through a second corridor. Attack the right-hand wall halfway through this corridor to locate the ghost glovewort hiding in the alcove.
  • Found among the graves in the northeastern graveyard.
  • In the same graveyard, check the western section for another Glovewort sitting next to a grave.

Ghost Glovewort 8

  • Just north of the Palace Approach Ledge-Road Site of Grace, near the entrance to a small cave at the eastern wall.
  • Found in the northeastern graveyard at the southern end.

Ghost Glovewort 9

  • East of the Waterfall Basin Site of Grace.
  • In the northwestern graveyard, on the west side.
  • Found near the Grand Cloister Site of Grace.
  • Obtained as a drop from killing the Black Knife Assassin.

Buying from the Twin Maiden Husks

elden ring ghost glovewort

If you’ve exhausted all the item pickups, you can still buy all three from the Twin Maiden Husks, though you’ll need to have the Ghost-Glovewort Picker’s Bell Bearing (3) item to do so. It can be found in Elphael, Brace of the Haligtree, in the northeastern graveyard where you found all the other Gloveworts.

Offer it to the Twin Maiden Husks back at the Roundtable Hold , and you can purchase them directly with Runes.

What Ghost Glovewort Are Used For

elden ring ghost glovewort

Ghost Gloveworts 7, 8, and 9 can be used to upgrade your renowned spirit ashes up to +9. This allows them to deal more damage in battle and gives them a larger health pool, which becomes especially crucial to upgrade them as you get into the late-game areas of Elden Ring.

Do note that they can only be used on named spirit ashes and not the more generic ones like the Lone Wolves, which are instead upgraded with Grave Gloveworts. To upgrade both the renowned and generic spirit ashes, speak with Roderika at the Roundtable Hold, located across from Hewg, the blacksmith.

That’s all you need to know about how to get Ghost Gloveworts 7, 8, and 9 in Elden Ring . Be sure to check our guide wiki for more tips and information on the game.

Spirit Ashes are a blessing in the harsh world of Elden Ring that allows you to summon various creatures to aid you in battle. However, upgrading Spirit Ashes becomes necessary after some progress in the game, so that they don’t lose their effectiveness. That’s where Ghost Glovewort 7 comes in.

Ghost Glovewort should not be confused with Grave Golvewort. Although both these materials are used to upgrade Spirit Ashes, the former is used for renowned Spirit Summons while the latter is for regular Spirit Summons just like Smithing Stone and Somber Smithing Stones.

If you are looking to get Ghost Glovewort quickly, we have this guide for you that will explain all of Ghost Glovewort 7 Locations and how can you purchase it.

Every Ghost Glovewort 7 Location in Elden Ring

You can access this upgrade material through map exploration, obtain it by going to a special place in the Lands Between, or purchase it from a Merchant.

Below are the locations to acquire this Ghost Glovewort.

North Uhl Palace Ruins

Enter from the north Uhl Palace Ruins and make your way a little left, away from the giant hanging mini-boss. The Ghost Glovewort 7 will be placed beside two huge statues.

You can spot another Ghost Glovewort by walking northwest of the first one, where the main ruins are situated. This area can also be accessed by going right from the Malormed Star and heading straight until the two walls meet at the end.

Deeproot Depths

This Ghost Glovewort 7 can be found west of the large tree, toward the eastern side of Deeproot Depths Grace.

Crucible Knight Boss’s Area

This one also dwells in the Deeproot Depths and can be accessed by going next to the place where you engage Crucible Knight Siluria in combat, in the scary Deeproot Depths.

Nokstella, Eternal City

This Ghost Glovewort 7 is situated in front of the waterfall in Nokstella and can be accessed by walking right into the flowing water.

Mount Gelmir Catacombs

In Mt. Gelmir Catacombs, keep walking down the lava pathway until getting past the first chariot. Continue further by noticing the chariot’s next movement and immediately jump to the left alcove. Ignore the enemies in your path while approaching the upper area. Wait for the jet of fire to stop and obtain the Ghost Glovewort on the other side, beside the corner area.

Giant’s Mountaintop Catacombs

In Giant’s Mountaintop Catacombs , keep running down the main pathway until facing the first elevator. Wait for the second elevator to come before you in the area below and let it take you further to the underground area.

Walk past the Watchdog boss without annoying the creature. There will be an illusory wall in the first corridor on the right. Go ahead and grab the Ghost Glovewort 7.

Elphael, Brace of the Haligtree Graveyard

You can expect to obtain two of these by going to this place. The first one dwells in the middle of the graveyard, north of the Haligtree Roots Site of Grace.

Jump to the lower area and you will obtain Ghost Glovewort Picker’s Bell Bearing 3 at the start. The 2nd one is placed right under the shade of the next giant tree.

Where can I Buy Ghost Glovewort 7 in Elden Ring?

After obtaining Ghost Glovewort Picker’s Bell Bearing 3 , you can buy unlimited Ghost Glovewort 7 (8 and 9) by visiting Twin Maiden Husks in Roundtable Hold . So it’s up to you whether you want to go for Bell Bearing or find Ghost Glovewort 7 by exploring different locations in Elden Ring. Personally, I believe that getting the Bell Bearing will solve your future issues as well as you will be able to purchase Ghost Glovewort 7,8, and 9 as much as you want.

Nokstella is the sister city of Nokron , and although it’s tricky to reach, you’ve actually seen a small portion of it if you ever visited the Dragonkin Soldier of Nokstella . The ancient city is mostly deserted, and everyone and everything that’s left is trying to kill you.

Unique Rewards:

ghost glovewort 7 nokstella

These are tough enemies that you’ll find throughout this area. Their weapons can stretch, so even though they look short they’ll hit you from far away. These foes also like to dodge away from counterattacks, so they can be hard to hit. Shields are helpful, and players will slow weapons will have to accept that they’ll generally need to use jumping heavies and eat an attack while coming in.

Love the guides, keep up the great work! Just an FYI, after you have killed the two silver tears and swoardstress, then collected the Moon of Nokstella. On your left (as you enter that room), is a doorway that leads to a lift that takes you to a golden seed, which is inaccessible from the river near the lift to the waterfall basin.

Zillbot

I was just about to leave the same comment! Don’t miss this seed folks!

DanielD

Appreciate that Zillbot! The guide’s been updated accordingly.

Thank you very much! I’ve added the pathing to the Golden Seed to the guide. I think I need to turn my in-game brightness up a bit more 🙂

SREJ29

You can also converse with Ranni at the two other graces after you pick up the doll. There are two further Ghost Gravewort (7)s not mentioned, one by the patrol path of each of the first two ant-riding Nox.

Malavesh

Just a heads up that the link at the bottom of the page to Lake of Rot still says “Coming Soon!” on it. It appears that page is done and the link just needs updating. 🙂

Screen Rant

Elden ring: every grave glovewort & ghost glovewort location.

Elden Ring players can improve their Spirit Ashes at Roundtable Hold, but they'll need Grave Glovewort and Ghost Glovewort to upgrade them.

Glovewort is a pale, glowing flower in Elden Ring that allows Tarnished players to upgrade their Spirit Ashes. Spirit Ashes let players summon companion spirits that can help take down challenging enemies and bosses that are too difficult to face alone. However, to summon Spirit Ashes, players will have to obtain the Spirit Calling Bell from Renna the Witch the first time she greets them at the Church of Elleh.

To unlock the ability to upgrade Spirit Ashes, Elden Ring players must first find an NPC named Roderkica and complete her side quest. Roderika can be found in the Stormhill Shack in West Limgrave, and she'll ask the player to retrieve the Chrysalid's Memento from inside Stormveil Castle. Once players give her the Chrysalid's Memento, she'll move to Roundtable Hold, where players will have to convince Smithing Master Hewg to mentor her. After that, they can visit her any time to upgrade Spirit Ashes like Mimic Tear in Elden Ring as long as they have enough Glovewort and Runes.

There are two different types of Glovewort in Elden Ring : Grave Glovewort and Ghost Glovewort. Grave Glovewort is used to upgrade regular Spirit Ashes, and Ghost Glovewort is used to upgrade the more powerful Renowned Spirit Ashes. Upgrading Spirit Ashes will improve the Spirits' stats like health, attack, and defense, and it can even increase the number of spirits summoned in some cases. However, like Elden Ring's Smithing Stones, there are different levels of Glovewort that are required to upgrade Spirit Ashes to higher tiers.

Elden Ring - All Grave Glovewort Locations

Elden Ring players can find Grave Glovewort growing in the catacombs throughout the Lands Between. There are nine different levels of Grave Glovewort, and while they all look relatively similar, higher-level Glovewort will have more blooming flowers than lower-level Glovewort. Additionally, players will need to find a Great Grave Glovewort to fully upgrade their Spirit Ashes to +10. However, if players find a Grave-Glovewort Picker's Bell Bearing, they can give it to the Twin Maiden Husks in Roundtable Hold to unlock the option to purchase Grave Glovewort for 800 Runes. Like the plant itself, there are several different tiers of Glovewort Bell Bearings that unlock higher tiers of Glovewort in the shop.

Elden Ring - All Ghost Glovewort Locations

Elden Ring's Renowned Spirit Ashes allow Tarnished players to summon some of the strongest Spirits in the game, but they require Ghost Glovewort to upgrade. Like Grave Glovewort, there are nine different levels of Ghost Glovewort as well as the Great Ghost Glovewort that can be used to fully upgrade Renowned Spirit Ashes to +10. Players can also give the Twin Maiden Husks in Roundtable Hold a Ghost-Glovewort Picker's Bell Bearing to unlock Ghost Glovewort in their shop, but these Bell Bearings have different levels, just like the Grave-Glovewort Picker's Bell Bearing.

The Tarnished arriving at Nokstella, Eternal City in Elden Ring.

Elden Ring: Nokstella, Eternal City Walkthrough

Nokstella, Eternal City is one of the hidden areas you can access in  Elden Ring .  Although completely optional, it’s a place you need to access if you’re to complete one of the most important side quests in the game.

Table Of Contents

How to get to nokstella, eternal city.

There are two ways to get to Nokstella, Eternal City. The simpler way is to follow Ranni’s questline .

After you give Ranni the Fingerslayer Blade, the seal on Renna’s Rise will disappear. You’ll find a waygate at the top of this tower that will teleport you to Ainsel River.

From here, continue heading south and into the cave beyond the Malformed Star. Be mindful of this enemy. It will fire projectiles at you at a fast rate. Use the pillars and walls around the area as cover. You can either run past him or get rid of him to make exploring this area easier.

Simply make your way to the end of the cave and you’ll come out in Nokstella, Eternal City.

Alternatively, you can arrive at Ainsel River without doing Ranni’s questline by heading to Deeproot Depths.

From the Nameless Eternal City Site of Grace, keep heading west and you’ll find a lone coffin at the edge of the waterfall cliff. Interact with it and you’ll be teleported to Ainsel River.

The location of the coffin in Deeproot Depths that teleports you to Ainsel River.

From here, follow the direction mentioned previously if you were to follow Ranni’s questline and you’ll arrive at Nokstella, Eternal City.

There are two routes you can take once you’re at the Site of Grace. You can head up the stairs or you can take the route on the ground. Take the stairs for now.

Before heading up, head behind the structure that’s next to the Site of Grace and you’ll find three Magic Greases on the ground. After picking it up, continue towards the stairs.

The Tarnished picking up Magic Grease at Nokstella.

After the first flight, enter the room on the left. You’ll face a Nox Swordstress here. Defeat her and loot the coffin to the far right corner of the room to obtain the Ant’s Skull Plate shield.

Head back outside and continue ascending where another Nox Swordtress is waiting for you. You’ll also find a corpse dangling over the railings to the right with an item you can loot. Pillage it to get one set of Fan Daggers.

Keep heading up and you’ll be greeted by multiple Electric Silver Tears. When you defeat one, it will burst with electricity, damaging you and forcing surrounding Silver Tears to burst as well.

Once at the top, make a left and enter the structure where there are shielded Silver Tears. Be sure to attack these enemies from behind. There’s a chest in this room that contains the Ghost-Glovewort Picker’s Bell Bearing [2].

The Tarnished facing a room that contains shielded Silver Tear enemies

After getting the bell bearing, exit the building and go around it by heading left. You’ll find the Archer Ashes at the end of this path.

Going Further Up

Make your way back to the top of the stairs and proceed to the north. Watch out for the Silver Tears that will drop from the ceiling here. You can also loot a Golden Rune [10] from the ground.

Keep an eye out on the building to your left. You’ll eventually find an open window you can jump into.

The Tarnished facing an open window in Nokstella.

Head in and rush forward as a Silver Tear will immediately drop from the ceiling close to the open window. Defeat it and proceed to the chest at the end of the room to obtain a Somber Smithing Stone [7].

Head back outside and proceed onwards. You’ll find a corpse leaning on the ledge that has a Golden Rune [10] you can loot. Once looted, climb the stairs to proceed.

Continue onward and you’ll eventually come across a bridge to your right. Don’t cross this yet. Instead, proceed onward and head left to find the entrance to a building that’s blocked by a fog gate.

Enter this building if you have a Stonesword Key. Inside it, you’ll find two Nox Monks and a chest that contains the Nightmaiden & Swordstress Puppets Spirit Ashes .

Facing The Silver Spheres

With this looted, head back outside and cross the bridge. Be mindful of the massive Silver Sphere ahead. It will swiftly roll towards you, dealing massive damage. Defeat the ball as quickly as you can to prevent it from rolling towards you.

You can also run back to the structure you entered previously, luring the ball to the entrance. It won’t be able to fit through the entrance, allowing you to hit it without having to worry about being rolled over. Once defeated, the Silver Sphere will drop a Larval Tear .

The Tarnished facing a Silver Sphere in Nokstella.

Once the massive ball has been dealt with, continue onward. Before continuing up, proceed to the structure to the right of the end of the bridge. Be mindful, though. As soon as you enter it, the entrance will close and another Silver Sphere will drop from the ceiling. Defeat it as quickly as possible.

At the end of this room is a chest that contains a Great Ghost Glovewort. Loot it and head back outside. Proceed to the stairway and start ascending. You can also loot the corpse that’s dangling over the ledge to your left to obtain a Golden Rune [10].

Finishing Up The Upper Section of Nokstella

Once you reach the top of the stairs, you’ll immediately spot the entrance to a tall structure. Before entering it, turn to the right and onto the second structure. Outside its entrance, you’ll find a corpse on the ground that holds a Smithing Stone [6]. Pick it up and return to the first structure.

Enter this building and keep walking while looking up. Press the lock-on button and you’ll spot a Silver Sphere dangling from the ceiling. Attack the Silver Sphere with a spell, bow, or any item you can throw to force it to drop. It will land on a few Electric Silver Tears, which will cause them to explode and damage the Silver Sphere.

The Tarnished locking in to a Silver Sphere enemy.

If the Silver Sphere is still alive, run back outside and the Silver Sphere will get stuck at the entrance. Attack and defeat it from here. Once defeated, proceed onwards and defeat any remaining Silver Tears in the room.

There’s a chest at the end of this room. Open it to obtain a Somber Smithing Stone [7].

Take the exit to the left and proceed onward. At the stairs, you’ll encounter a Scarab. Defeat it to obtain a Somber Smithing Stone [6].

At the top of the stairs is another structure. Inside it are two Silver Tears and a Nox Swordstress. The two Silver Tears will transform into humans, one of them wielding a great shield, and the other wielding a great sword.

You can summon a Spirit Ash here to level the playing field. Deal with the two Silver Tears first, then work on defeating the Nox Swordstress afterward.

The Tarnished facing two Silver Tears and a Nox Swordstress in Nokstella.

Once the enemies have been taken care of, proceed to the small room at the end of this structure to find a chest. Loot it to obtain the Moon of Nokstella, a legendary Talisman .

Take the southern exit and enter the structure ahead to your left to find an elevator that will take you down. After reaching the bottom, proceed onward and you’ll immediately spot an Erdtree branch with a Golden Seed below it. With this looted, you’ve obtained everything there is to get at the upper parts of Nokstella.

You can immediately proceed to the next area from here by going down and entering the building to the south. Or you can travel back to the Nokstella, Eternal City Site of Grace to explore the rest of this area.

Exploring The Lower Section of Nokstella

Turn to the east from the Site of Grace and you’ll spot a Glovewort ahead, beyond a roaming Nox that’s riding an ant.

The Tarnished facing a Nox that's riding an ant.

When fighting them, be sure to target the ant first as it will cause the Nox to fall down once the ant perishes. Once dealt with, pick up the Ghost Gloveworth (7) ahead.

Proceed then to the ruins to the north. You’ll find two Nox Monks stationed here. Defeat them and loot the item under the archway to get a Smithing Stone (6). You can also pick up two Drawstring Holy Greases if you turn back from the archway, on a corpse leaning on a wall.

Proceed to the northwest and you’ll eventually find a couple of Serpent Snails surrounding a corpse with an item on it. Loot it to obtain a Celestial Dew.

The Tarnished facing a couple of Serpent Snails.

Continue westward while sticking close to the structure to the right. You’ll find more Serpent Snails here. At the western end of the building is a corpse on the ground with a Smithing Stone [6] you can loot. Be careful, though. If you stand next to the corpse, a Serpent Snail will fall on you.

Look to your south and you’ll find a flight of stairs that leads to a bridge, which then leads to a small room. Proceed to this area and defeat the Nox Swordstress here. Inside this room is a chest that contains a Ghost Glovewort [9].

Make your way back down and continue heading west still. To your right, you’ll find a corpse on the ground, at the base of a cliff. Loot it to obtain a Golden Rune [10]. To its left is a Ghost Glovewort [8]. Turn to the north and you’ll find another of the same glovewort.

This area is littered with multiple electric Silver Tears. There are also two ant-riding Nox enemies here. Eliminate them if you want to. Do so carefully, though. There are more Silver Tears on cliffs above you that will throw silver spikes at you.

Proceed forward then. To your left, approach the structure that has three Silver Tears in it. Defeat them and you’ll find a corpse behind them that holds a Somber Smithing Stone [7].

The Tarnished facing three Silver Tears.

From here, turn around and head to the north until you spot a couple of red ants. Close to the edge of the cliff beyond them is a corpse on the ground. Approach it and loot the item it’s holding to get a Stonesword Key.

From here, head to the building to the south. This structure has an elevator that takes you to the next area below. There are multiple enemies outside it, including several electric Silver Tears and an ant-riding Nox. Defeat them if you want, or simply run past them.

There’s also a gazebo to the right of this structure that’s loitered by three electric Silver Tears. There’s a Celestial Dew here you can pick up.

Return to the building and ride the elevator down. Once at the bottom, you’ll find the Nokstella Waterfall Basin Site of Grace ahead.

The Baleful Shadow

Take the cave beyond the Site of Grace and you’ll find three Basilisks. Be very careful of these little creatures. They inflict death blight, which will immediately kill you once the status gauge is filled. Behind them, you can loot a Smithing Stone [4] and a Smithing Stone [5].

The Tarnished facing a bunch of Basilisks in Nokstella.

Proceed onwards then and you’ll arrive at an open area where the Baleful Shadow will be waiting for you.

The Baleful Shadow will only appear in this area if you’re doing Ranni’s questline. Otherwise, this area will just be an open space for you.

Defeating him is quite simple. The Baleful Shadow is strong but he also telegraphs most of his attacks. His most dangerous aspect is that he also inflicts death blight, similar to the Basilisks prior to this area.

Once defeated, you’ll officially have progressed Ranni’s questline. If you’re not doing the quest, you can simply enter the structure to the south to find an elevator. This will take you out of Nokstella, Eternal City and onto the Lake of Rot .

Elden Ring: Where To Find All Great Ghost Glovewort

Here's where you can find all the Great Ghost Gloveworts in Elden Ring

Elden Ring brings with it a huge variety of weapons, magic, and armor to choose from. Using giant swords, or choosing a faster rapier, all the combat choices feel well thought out and add a massive amount of replayability to an already massive game. One of the features that makes this variety even more engaging is the Spirit Ash system that allows you to summon friendly NPC's to help you fight in certain areas around the Lands Between.

Related: Elden Ring: All Summons In The Starscourge Radahn Fight, Ranked

As helpful as these summons are, however, they will be next to useless in the late game if you do not invest in upgrading them. The two things you need for this are the NPC Roderika, who can be found at the Stormhill Shack Site of Grace, and the upgrade material, Glovewort. However, special summons require Ghost Glovewort, and to make things more difficult you need Great Ghost Glovewort to level your Spirit Ash to +10, of which there are only four in Elden Ring. Luckily for you, this is a list of all of the Great Ghost Glovewort in Elden Ring and how to get them.

4 Ainsel River, Dragonkin Soldier

This is one of the more straightforward Great Ghost Gloveworts to find in Elden Ring, and it will probably be the first one you can access unless you progress to Mohgwyn Palace early. All you have to do is complete the Ainsel River area, which is accessed by descending an elevator located in the East side of Liurnia of the Lakes .

Once you get down there, progress through the area until you make your way to the Dragonkin Soldier of Nokstella. After defeating him, you will find a little room near the waterfall in the boss arena, and inside is a chest with the Great Ghost Glovewort. Fully upgrading a Spirit Ash at this point in the game will give you a huge advantage against some of the more difficult areas that are yet to come, so it is definitely worth picking your favorite Summon maxing them out.

3 Night's Sacred Ground

The majority of Great Ghost Glovewort are found deep underground, which reflects the lore related to Glovewort blooming in catacombs in the Lands Between. This Great Ghost Glovewort is found at the end of the Night's Sacred Ground area, under the big skeleton, which can only be accessed after defeating Starscourge Radahn and jumping down the massive hole that has opened up after his boss fight.

Related: The Most Stunning Areas Found In Elden Ring

This zone is somewhat hidden, as you have to jump down onto the buildings near the Ancestral Woods site of grace to get here, but the enemies are not particularly dangerous. It is definitely recommended to use Spirit Ash when available, since there are fights against groups of regular enemies that are open to Spirit Ash summons. This can make encounters with multiple enemies, that would otherwise feel unfair, more fun.

2 Nokstella, Eternal City

Another area that is only accessible through exploration of the underground part of Elden Ring's expansive map, Nokstella, Eternal City houses another of the Great Ghost Glovewort. Like most of them, you have to progress through basically the entire area to find it. Starting at the Nokstella, Eternal City site of grace, proceed up the stairs. Fight your way past the enemies, until you come across a bridge with one of the metal ball enemies.

Across the bridge there is a building in which there is a chest that contains the Great Ghost Glovewort. Be careful, as there are a multitude of enemies within that building. As long as you take your time in dispatching the opponents carefully, along with keeping an eye on the ceilings, since the silver tears hide up there, there is very little danger.

1 Mohgwyn Dynasty Mausoleum

This is the only Great Ghost Glovewort in Elden Ring that can actually be picked directly from the plant, similar to how you pick up regular Glovewort. You can find it by progressing through the Mohgwyn Palace area near end of the zone, but a little before you fight the boss. The enemies are very strong in this area, but always remember that running past them is a viable option. Starting at the Dynasty Mausoleum Midpoint site of grace, walk back into the cave you came from. The Great Ghost Glovewort will be located on your left ready to be picked, but watch out for the many enemies around as they can grab you or explode and inflict blood loss on you.

As a bonus there is also a Somber Ancient Dragon Smithing Stone in a nearby chest. Even though this is one of the final areas in Elden Ring, upgrading your spirit summons will be incredibly helpful for the upcoming boss fights. Though it is true that you can always summon another player to help you, doing so will give the boss more health, whereas if you only use Spirit Summons, the boss does not get more health.

the 1 in war-dead is not a GHOST wort its a grave

One in leyndell catacombs

One in Auriza Side Tomb, in the locked cell room containing the ladder up to the lever.

This is a Ghost Glovewart 5

Just found one in the War-Dead catacombs, smack dab in the middle of where the massive battle spawns in the first room.

The only GG in Auriza's, as far as I can tell, is a 5, not a 6

I wonder why the number is 699 and not 999 for the total amount you can have including the chest storage

found one in Deeproot Depths, northwest of the Nameless Eternal City site of grace

there is a Ghost Glovewort (5), not a (6) in the zombie area.

I don't think there's 2 Ghost glovewort 6 in the waters North of Uhl Palace Ruins
