This research focuses on comparing the effectiveness of two learning media/platforms namely zoom meeting and google meet which are used as a means of delivering online learning in citizenship education courses materials during the covid-19 pandemic. The purpose of this research is to determine which platform is more effective to use as a means of online lectures, then also aims to determine which platform has more features that can be used in online lectures, in addition to finding the obstacles that students feel while using the platform in online lectures. The method used is causal comparative research method. Data collection is done by using questionnaires in google forms. The results found that zoom meetings are considered more effective by students for various reasons such as easy to use, comfortable to use, and have many features which can be used in the citizenship education course process. Zoom meeting is also considered to have more features than google meet such as background&filter feature and breakout room. Because zoom meeting is more widely used, the constraints that exist in the zoom meeting are also more of which are constraints on the network / signal and on the features contained in it.

Corona Virus Disease or known as COVID-19 has had a profound impact that has spread among every cycle of educational context in a short period of time. In the wake of the COVID-19 outbreak, foreign language education, which was one of those affected cycles of educational context, had to be conducted by quitting physical settings, and the new normal was changed into working or studying from home. In the emergency circumstances in the pandemic, failure of education and losing social relationships were the most common types of threat experienced by all stakeholders such as students, teachers and educators. However, with the help of video conferencing tools, those threats were easily overcome. Thus, in foreign language education online synchronous lessons, classes and meetings became the new routine. This means in the age of lockdowns due to COVID-19, video conferencing tools helped people stay connected. One of those platforms used for foreign language teaching and learning was Google Meet. Driven by this perspective, the objective of the present study is to document the positive aspects of Google Meet by thematically analyzing the related literature. For the data collection phase of this qualitative descriptive study, the three words - “Google Meet”, “language education” and “COVID”- were searched by using Google Scholar, and among the results, the three studies indexed in Web of Science were selected for analysis. The following seven themes were generated by the thematic analysis of the three studies on Google Meet in foreign language education context: Google Meet (1) is easy to access, (2) aids the transition from face to face to online teaching, (3) acts an effective and efficient synchronous tool for online foreign language education, (4) is user-friendly, (5) reduces the fear factor during the pandemic, (6) provides a safe environment, and (7) mediates real-time communication and interaction. The results of this study are thought to provide contributions for efficient and effective use of video conferencing tools for online foreign language education. Before the arrival of the Covid 19 virus epidemic, the government actually launched the industry 4.0 and 5.0 revolutions, including in the field of education where the use of technology as a medium or instrument in learning can be maximized to use. However, most of teacher and students were not able to conduct yet. When this epidemic comes, it can’t help using technology in the field of education ready or not. The government's policy to execute large-scale social restrictions or PSBB to prevent the transmission of the epidemic has made the implementation of the teaching and learning process online starting from elementary level to university. However, every change certainly causes pros and cons. There are both positive and negative sides to online learning. The positive side can make it easier and more efficient for face-to-face learning to be done from home anytime and anywhere. Meanwhile, the problems that arise include a lack of understanding in the use of technology, inadequ...

Google Meet Expectations for Students and Families

Behavioral expectations for students.

Students enrolled in digital learning may engage in virtual instruction sessions on Google Meet. To ensure a positive and productive learning environment during these sessions, it is important that all students adhere to the following behavioral expectations.

  • Always be respectful and courteous to other students and teachers during Google Meets. Inappropriate, offensive or threatening comments; misrepresentation of identity, and/or disruptive behavior by any participants during Google Meet sessions will not be tolerated.
  • Students must use their HCPSS email account to log into a Google Meet session.
  • Enhancing communication and building trust are important for active learning. Students are expected to use their web camera during instructional time and is required for recording attendance, specific class activities, and assessments.
  • Login credentials must not be shared. Sharing of login information violates other students’ and teachers’ rights to confidentiality, and could allow class participation by unauthorized persons and/or lead to disruptive behaviors that detract from a productive and positive learning environment.
  • Students who are disruptive and/or “trespass” Google Meet sessions will receive appropriate consequences in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct . Consequences may result in temporary or permanent loss of technology access, which would prevent the student from participating in Google Meet virtual sessions. Students receiving this consequence would have assignments provided to the student’s parent/guardian.

While Sandel argues that pursuing perfection through genetic engineering would decrease our sense of humility, he claims that the sense of solidarity we would lose is also important.

This thesis summarizes several points in Sandel’s argument, but it does not make a claim about how we should understand his argument. A reader who read Sandel’s argument would not also need to read an essay based on this descriptive thesis.

Broad thesis (arguable, but difficult to support with evidence)

Michael Sandel’s arguments about genetic engineering do not take into consideration all the relevant issues.

This is an arguable claim because it would be possible to argue against it by saying that Michael Sandel’s arguments do take all of the relevant issues into consideration. But the claim is too broad. Because the thesis does not specify which “issues” it is focused on—or why it matters if they are considered—readers won’t know what the rest of the essay will argue, and the writer won’t know what to focus on. If there is a particular issue that Sandel does not address, then a more specific version of the thesis would include that issue—hand an explanation of why it is important.

Arguable thesis with analytical claim

While Sandel argues persuasively that our instinct to “remake” (54) ourselves into something ever more perfect is a problem, his belief that we can always draw a line between what is medically necessary and what makes us simply “better than well” (51) is less convincing.

This is an arguable analytical claim. To argue for this claim, the essay writer will need to show how evidence from the article itself points to this interpretation. It’s also a reasonable scope for a thesis because it can be supported with evidence available in the text and is neither too broad nor too narrow.

Arguable thesis with normative claim

Given Sandel’s argument against genetic enhancement, we should not allow parents to decide on using Human Growth Hormone for their children.

This thesis tells us what we should do about a particular issue discussed in Sandel’s article, but it does not tell us how we should understand Sandel’s argument.

Questions to ask about your thesis

  • Is the thesis truly arguable? Does it speak to a genuine dilemma in the source, or would most readers automatically agree with it?
  • Is the thesis too obvious? Again, would most or all readers agree with it without needing to see your argument?
  • Is the thesis complex enough to require a whole essay's worth of argument?
  • Is the thesis supportable with evidence from the text rather than with generalizations or outside research?
  • Would anyone want to read a paper in which this thesis was developed? That is, can you explain what this paper is adding to our understanding of a problem, question, or topic?

Google Meet Is Making It Easier to Switch Between Devices. Here's How

G oogle Meet, the company's business-focused video calling service, is adding a new feature that should be popular with people on the go. Soon, you'll be able to switch between devices during a meeting without hanging up and rejoining.

The new feature will be free for business and personal Google account users as it rolls out over the next couple of weeks.

"In today's world, getting our work done can happen from many locations, across many devices," Google said in a blog post  Wednesday announcing the change, promising calls will "smoothly transfer between devices while on a Google Meet call."

Google's new feature for its Google Meet service marks another way the company is hoping to stand out amid meeting-service providers including Zoom and Microsoft's Teams . Video meetings have existed for years but truly became popular in March 2020, when the World Health Organization  declared the COVID-19 outbreak a pandemic , leading millions of people to live, learn and work from home.

Read more : Best Video Chat Apps: FaceTime, Zoom, Meet and More

Google Meet's new transfer feature borrows from one of Apple's most popular technologies for its FaceTime video chat service, allowing the iPhone, iPad and Mac to hand off  FaceTime video calls between one another . Apple's been expanding its handoff features over the past decade, allowing Macs, iPads and Apple Watches to start and receive calls through a connected iPhone as well .

Google hasn't just borrowed ideas from Apple for its video-chat software though. Google made its Zoom rival Meet free to consumers in 2020 and added features to support business-focused videoconference hardware as well as better screen sharing and collaboration . Google even added a Brady Bunch-style mode so groups could more easily see one another .

How it works

Switching calls in Google Meet appears straightforward. If you're already on a Google Meet call using your phone, all you have to do is go to meet.google.com while logged into the same account.

From there, select the meeting you're in, and the " Switch here " button should be on the screen.

In its online instructions , Google said when you transfer the meeting, the original device will be disconnected. But there's a way to keep both devices in the meeting too.

If you prefer to merely switch which device's microphones, speakers and cameras are being used, while keeping both devices connected, " Other joining options " will be on the meeting screen as well. From there, you'll be presented with a new choice, " Join here too ."

Google is adding a "Switch here" option to its Google Meet service, allowing easy transitions between devices.
