Homework is the debut studio album by the French electronic music duo Daft Punk, released on 20 January 1997 by Virgin Records and Soma Quality Recordings. The duo produced the tracks without plans to release an album. After working on projects that were intended to be separate singles over five months, they considered the material good enough for an album.

Double vinyl LP pressing. Homework is the debut studio album by the French electronic music duo Daft Punk, originally released in 1997. As the duo's first project on a major label, they produced the album's tracks without plans to release them, but after initially considering releasing them as separate singles, they considered the material good enough for an album. Homework's success brought worldwide attention to French house music. The album charted in 14 countries, peaking at number 3 on the French Albums Chart, number 150 on the United States Billboard 200 and at number 8 on the UK Albums Chart.

The duo also streamed a never-before-seen set from 1997 last night on Twitch

Daft Punk have announced vinyl reissues of their 1997 debut, ‘Homework’, and live album, ‘Alive 1997’.  Both reissues will be released on 15th April, and are available to pre-order here .

The announcement lands on the first anniversary of the duo’s sudden split, and a month after the 25th anniversary of ‘Homework’. Last night (22nd), they live streamed a rare, unmasked set filmed at the Mayan Theater in Los Angeles in 1997 to mark the occasion. 

The duo have also just released a deluxe digital edition of ‘Homework’, which features 15 remixes from the original album, nine of which have never been shared on digital streaming platforms before. Remixers include Masters At Work, DJ Sneak, Todd Terry, Motorbass, Slam, Ian Pooley, I:Cube, Roger Sanchez and Junior Sanchez. Check it out here .

In a recent 25th anniversary feature for DJ Mag, writer Gabriel Szatan — whose book on Daft Punk will be released next year — went deep into the DNA of Daft Punk’s world-beating debut, presenting an insider’s guide to the dance music pioneers, or ‘Teachers’, that influenced it. Read it here . 

The iconic Parisian electronic duo announced their sudden break up on 22nd February 2021 after 28 years. The announcement was made by way of an eight-minute excerpt from their 2006 film Electroma, titled Epilogue. Their publicist Kathryn Frazier subsequently confirmed the news of their split to Pitchfork , with no reason given.

Daft Punk Reissuing Homework on Vinyl, Livestreamed Rare 1997 Concert

Today, on the first anniversary of their breakup , Daft Punk are airing a one-off stream of a rare 1997 concert, recorded before they began wearing helmets. It’s happening right now on Twitch . The livestream footage came from a set that Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter played at Los Angeles nightclub the Mayan around the Homework release. A representative stressed that the show will air only once, and that’s exactly what happened.

The duo has also announced a vinyl reissue of its landmark debut album, Homework , for its 25th anniversary. The Homework vinyl LP and a vinyl reissue of Alive ’97 are out April 15. Homework (25th Anniversary Edition) , which will also get released digitally, includes numerous remixes. Find the tracklist below.

Daft Punk’s Homework and live album Alive 1997 are being reissued on vinyl, via EMI this February.

Originally released in 1997, Homework marked the duo’s debut studio album, while Alive 1997 was also recorded and released that same year – at Birmingham’s Que Club during the duo’s first European tour.

The reissues follows news that the duo are splitting up, which they announced with a short video titled ‘Epilogue’ .
