1. Identify your target market

Market research helps to identify target customers, understand the competition, and determine profitability. It is also helpful for finding customer needs and demands.

So, before starting a chicken wing restaurant, the first step should be to research the target market, potential customers, and competitors.

Identify the target customer base interested in chicken wings and related food items, then create a proper list by conducting a preference analysis.

Here are some ideas for target customers:

  • Sports enthusiasts
  • Young adults
  • Party planners
  • Late-night snackers
  • College students
  • Office lunches
  • Fast food lovers
  • Festival/event attendees

Understand your target customer and competition:

By conducting a SWOT analysis and identifying the strengths and weaknesses of your competitors, you can create your unique selling proposition to take a competitive advantage.

Demographics: To find the ideal customer, analyze their age, gender, income, occupation, and location. You can gather the data by conducting surveys, online research, and accessing the local market.

Psychographics: Understand their lifestyle, interest, buying behaviors, etc. You can analyze social media and conduct customer reviews to find psychological data.

You can conduct your research process utilizing different sources:

  • Public sources : government data, academic research (journals, research papers), and industry reports (Statista, IBISWorld).
  • Online resources: Use social media, conduct surveys, and analyze web analytics (such as website traffic, user behavior, etc).
To analyze you can use tools like Google Analytics, Google Trends, Similar Web, etc.

If you want to deeply research a particular location, area, and city, use online resources like Google Search, Google Maps, and Wikipedia.

These resources help you to provide this location’s data, geography, and history.

2. Decide your business model

Chicken wings are tasty, and they are popular among chicken lovers.

You can create a unique food concept in your city by opening a wing restaurant. Starting requires research on the local market, careful planning, and a well-defined business plan.

The business concept is selling chicken wings by opening a restaurant in a high-potential location (it can be a franchise or independent shop). Also, you can set up the business with different service models (food trucks, online food delivery, and catering services to special events or parties).

By considering the profitability, demand, market potential, and profit margin, choose a suitable business model to set up your business.

Depending on your goals, resources, budget, passion, and planning, you can consider.

Open a chicken wing restaurant.

You can open a chicken wing restaurant independently.

A restaurant model offers a dining atmosphere where customers can enjoy chicken wings sitting at a table. So establish your restaurant in a high foot traffic area.

Starting from scratch is the best idea as the demand for chicken wings grows. Here are the simple steps you can follow.

  • A suitable location for opening a restaurant
  • Space for setting up the kitchen, storage, and utility facilities

  • Furniture and decor for the dining area
  • Trained staff for cooking, serving, and customer service
  • Software for management, marketing, and payment
  • More control of business
  • Good profit potential
  • You can set your rules
  • Grater Pride of ownership
  • Creativity and flexibility
  • More competition
  • Less name recognition

Chicken wing franchise opportunity

Another idea is a franchise opportunity for those interested in starting a chicken wing shop but don’t want to build from scratch.

A franchise can be an excellent choice for starting a business, but it requires a high investment, including franchise fees, shop setup, infrastructure, costly equipment, etc.

However, the advantage of operating under an established brand name can increase the chances of success.

Franchises have a higher success rate than independent businesses but are not without risk. About 25% of franchises fail within the first year of operation, and about half fail within five years.

Refer to the guide on the: Failure rate of franchise

You can join an existing franchise by following their guidelines (for choosing a location, target market, and rules).

A franchise provides expertise, training, marketing support, and a supply chain network to its franchisees.

  • Choose a reputable chicken wing franchise
  • Comply with franchise standards
  • Select a suitable location per the guidelines
  • Staff training as per franchise protocols
  • Follow franchise marketing strategies
  • Ongoing royalty and advertising fees

Each of these models has unique advantages and disadvantages, which should be carefully weighed before deciding.

  • Lower risk than independent,
  • Benefits from an established brand,

  • Support and training facility,
  • High investment,
  • Lack of independence,

Fried Chicken Shop Business Plan

What Is a Fried Chicken Restaurant Business Plan?

Across many cultures, fried chicken is quite popular. Stepping into the world of a successful chicken shop requires some smart planning. That’s where a well-crafted fried chicken restaurant business plan comes into play.

A solid business plan, like the food delivery service business plan , should clearly define your ideal customers and highlight what makes your business uniquely appealing compared to competitors.

But that’s not all – with this plan, you can lay out your financial predictions to catch the eye of potential investors and lenders. So, if you’re aiming to create a thriving chicken hotspot, a rock-solid business plan is your secret ingredient.

Why Do You Need a Fried Chicken Store Business Plan?

A solid fried chicken shop business plan is critical for several reasons:

  • Defines your vision, mission, and goals for the chicken shop.
  • Analyzes your target market and customer needs.
  • Evaluates competitors and your positioning.
  • Plans efficient operations and resource allocation.
  • Mitigates risks and challenges.
  • Attracts investors by demonstrating viability and profitability.
  • Secures funding with financial projections and assumptions.

In short, a strong business plan is key to launching and running a successful chicken shop.

How To Write a Fried Chicken Fast Food Restaurant Business Plan?

Writing a solid chicken shop business plan from scratch is extremely challenging, especially if you’re a beginner entrepreneur. Doing thorough industry research, defining your strategy, and creating detailed financial projections require significant time and business expertise.

Trying to put together all these complex components into a coherent plan can be overwhelming. This is why it’s highly recommended to use a fried chicken business plan example , template or sample.

Templates and samples provide structure, content examples and important questions to guide you. They save you time and effort while ensuring you cover all key sections properly. If you need more hands-on help, hiring franchise business plan consultants is a wise decision. They have the experience to craft a customized plan that secures funding and sets your chicken shop up for success.

We need $200,000 to get up and running. This covers costs like leasing, renovations, equipment, inventory, staff, licenses and marketing. We expect to break even within 12 months and earn $50,000 profit in year one. Steady 15% annual growth is projected over the next five years.

3. Structure and Background

Fried Chicken Express is a sole proprietorship owned by Alan E. Greenberg, an experienced entrepreneur and chef. With over 10 years in the restaurant industry, Alan has developed extensive expertise in food preparation, menu development, kitchen management and marketing.

Fried Chicken Express is open daily from 10am-10pm and staffed by Alan as owner/manager along with 2 chefs, 4 servers, 2 cashiers and a cleaner. Alan personally trains staff to uphold the restaurant’s standards for fresh, hand-breaded fried chicken cooked to crispy perfection.

Franchise Opportunity

Building a better chicken wing restaurant business plan.

by Ivan Flores | Jun 21, 2023 | Franchise Guides

business plan about chicken wings

When you’re looking to become a franchise owner, it’s usually best to work with the pros. That’s the approach we take at The Buffalo Spot, and it’s helped guide development of our brand’s chicken wing restaurant business plan since the beginning.

Every bit of our industry know-howknowhow, and dedication to our franchise team, go into building a chicken wing restaurant business plan designed for expansion both today and in the future.

Table of Contents

1. Find the Right Market for Your Chicken Wing Restaurant the Product

A chicken wing restaurant business plan comes about through years of experience in the field observing and learning the business. The key is to identify the essential elements that go into practically every growing brand, and combine them into a new franchise that takes the best of what’s been and makes it their own.

It’s a smart way to build a new business, and it highlights the importance of market selection when starting a wing franchise.

Establishing your Chicken Business in the Heart of the City

At The Buffalo Spot, we recognize how critical it can be to find the right territory and location. It’s why we place a high priority on connecting every owner with the market best suited for their services.

Each location we open is situated where the action is, and is carefully chosen for maximum impact and visibility. We believe in getting our meals in front of as many people as possible and make that a primary goal of our chicken wing restaurant business plan.

2. Build a Menu that Reflects Current Trends

Running a modern fast-casual brand requires foresight and perceptive thinking. That starts with the ability to identify the most promising trends, and to tailor the franchise’s approach to incorporate them in the future.

Any chicken wing restaurant business plan with staying power needs to understand the preferences of the market they serve. It’s a way of operating that’s helped The Buffalo Spot develop a menu that speaks to our customers and gives them the kinds of meals they crave and return to enjoy again.

Classic, Yet Contemporary: Making a Hot Statement with Your Chicken Wing MenuA Timeless Menu of Classics that’s Hotter than Hot

Buffalo wings have been a favorite of guests across the nation for decades. The Buffalo Spot has centered our chicken wing restaurant business plan around the cuisine, and highlighthigh light it across our menu.

Our customers love our wings and sauces, and that’s just for starters. Our thick, rich shakes and unforgettable sides are in demand and in step with the times, and help keep our guests happy, satisfied, and coming back for more.

3. Offer Something Different from the Usual in your chicken wing business

What do customers look for when they set out to pick a place for lunch or dinner? Many of them have two main objectives: to find familiar food they know and love, while enjoying something new and out of the ordinary at the same time.

It can be a delicate balancing act when creating a chicken wing restaurant business plan to give proper attention to both of these priorities, but it’s essential for developing a franchise with long-term prospects. We’ve built our brand around the concept at The Buffalo Spot.

Home of the World-Famous Buffalo Fries!

We know that our guests prefer a blend of the familiar and the novel, and it’s shaped our menu from the start.

We take an innovative approach to the traditional menu — guests get the classic flavors and dishes they’ve loved for years, alongside beloved innovations like our World-Famous Buffalo Fries. That departure from the typical wings menu helps keep us aligned with the tastes of our customers, and has been a critical part of our overall fried chicken restaurant business plan.

4. Back Up Franchise Owners with Robust, Ongoing Support

In our modern commercial environment, a chicken wing restaurant business plan should no longer be a blueprint for solo operation. Today’s owners have to wear multiple hats, and are often the face of the brand as well as the front lines of the franchise.

That can make brand backing more crucial today than ever before. Having solid franchise support can give an owner peace of mind that they’ve got a network of experience and knowledge behind them every day, for any issue that arises.

A Team of Experts on Your Side

When a new owner joins our brand, they immediately get the combined expertise of a team of franchising professionals with the dedication and background needed to provide substantial, meaningful support. Whatever the concern, we’re there with our owners to deal with it.

From site selection, to build-out and staffing, to Grand Opening and beyond, we work to give our owners what they need, when it can do them the most good. We want our franchise owners to have the tools for growth, and are standing by to lend a hand.

Fried and coated in sauce, Buffalo wings can make a tasty snack, party or anytime food. Since many people enjoy them and preparation is relatively simple, they are a common choice for new or aspiring restaurant owners. Success with a new Buffalo wing restaurant requires significant planning and hard work, however.

Before you plan a Buffalo wing restaurant, conduct market research to determine its potential profitability and your operating costs, says Square . You can learn about restaurant industry trends from food industry associations and publications. Then, you can obtain demographic data from the local chamber of commerce and use that to evaluate your target market.

The local chamber of commerce and area phone directories may prove helpful for identifying your competition in the area, after which you can conduct research to evaluate its profitability and weaknesses. In addition, you can enlist the help of a market research firm in determining how many members of the community are interested in a Buffalo wing restaurant and how often they would patronize one.

Type of Restaurant

Determine whether you want to start a takeout or dine-in restaurant, as well as what concept you will tailor your restaurant based on, says Webstaurant Store . This is the creative and logistical start for your chicken wing restaurant ideas. Takeout restaurants often require less startup cash, as you don't need as much space for customers or as many tables and chairs.

If the area where you want to open the business has a need for a sit-down restaurant, however, a dine-in eatery may prove a viable option. Depending on your budget and the demand in your area, you might even consider starting a Buffalo wing truck. This option allows you to park your truck and operate your business where you can cater to a hungry lunch or dinner crowd. You could also look for chicken wing restaurants for sale that are already successful.

Business Plan

A business plan can help you stay on track as you start and run your Buffalo wing restaurant. It can also prove important in obtaining funding. Since the startup costs for restaurants are often high, you may need a well-crafted business plan to help secure a loan or interest investors.

Your plan should include a summary of your business goals, projected startup costs, mission statement, and goals and objectives. For example, you may have the goal of becoming the area's No. 1 family restaurant or providing the highest-quality Buffalo wing delivery service in the community. Also, include your plan of operation, sample menus and an analysis of the location you want. Keep your business plan files protected and with several copies labelled for easy access, such as "chicken wing business plan pdf".

Location Is Key

Choose a location in which you can expect a high volume of foot and automobile traffic. A commercial property that has its own parking lot can prove ideal as well. You will also need a location with a large enough kitchen for the volume of business you plan. A large counter space with room enough for a cash register can be important for a takeout restaurant while you will need more floor space if customers will dine in. If you will run a mobile Buffalo wing restaurant, choose a busy business district or an urban college campus to ensure an abundance of customers.

Restaurant Equipment

You will need a range of equipment to start a Buffalo wing restaurant. For example, you will need fryers, sauce pans, bowls of various sizes, a refrigerator and freezer, and sinks. Likewise, you will also have to obtain a food scale and various preparation utensils, including strainers, large spoons, knives and tongs. In addition, you may need a large supply of disposable gloves, aprons and hairnets for the food preparation staff.

Supplies for Customers

You will need a range of supplies for serving your customers. A dine-in restaurant will need tablecloths, napkins, plates, glasses, cups and silverware, for example. If you will operate a takeout restaurant, however, you will typically need bags, disposable napkins and paper towels, takeout containers in different sizes, and small containers for providing extra Buffalo wing sauce and blue cheese. Regardless of whether your customers will dine in or take their food home, you will also need menus that include prices and descriptions of your selection of Buffalo wings, side dishes and drinks.

Sauce Recipes

Success in the Buffalo wing business depends, in part, on having tasty sauce recipes. Start with at least three or four sauces to give your customers options and then add more as desired. At minimum, you will need a basic Buffalo wing sauce, a mild sauce and one that is very spicy. You might also obtain a recipe for blue cheese dressing to serve along with the Buffalo wings. If you do not want to make your own sauces and dressings, you can buy them in bulk.

Hiring Staff

You will need people to prep and cook the food and individuals to serve customers and collect payment. If you will run a dine-in restaurant, you may need a host or hostess as well. Adding delivery service to your business can boost sales, so you might hire a couple of delivery people. In addition, you can hire people to clean the restaurant, wash dishes and clean off tables. If you will not manage the business yourself, you will need an experienced restaurant manager as well.

Permits and Licenses

Each state has its own laws for restaurant licensing and permits. In most jurisdictions, however, you will need a business license and a food service permit to start and run a Buffalo wing restaurant. You can obtain contact information for business license applications from your local chamber of commerce or by visiting your secretary of state's website. Then, you can contact your local department of health for information about obtaining a food service permit.

Restaurant Insurance

Restaurant owners need a range of insurance policies to operate and protect themselves from lawsuits. You will likely need property insurance, which covers you in case of damage to your property, and liability insurance, in case someone gets hurt in your restaurant or becomes ill after eating your food. If you will provide delivery service, you will need business automobile insurance.

Most states also require workers' compensation and unemployment insurance if you will have employees. Coverage for loss of business and liquor liability can prove important as well. If you take out a loan to start your restaurant, you may even need life insurance. Your lender may require this to ensure that your family can repay your loan in the event of your death.

However, the financial state of the chains of the restaurant was in jeopardy, which forced Jim Disbrow to employ Sally Smith as the chief financial officer to restore affairs back in order. Within two, years, she had managed to correct financial affairs in the chain of restaurants, and by 1996, the firm had added 60 more outlets to its name and was still showing signs of growth. The hundredth restaurant was established in 1999 and was seeking to merge with Frito-Lay to introduce potato chips (Merrill, 2002). Buffalo Wild Wings owns, franchises, and operates in over 900 locations across 49 states and Canada. There are currently out looking in 2013 to open up 100 more stores, 60 company operated, and 45 franchised. The menu items with the highest sales volumes are traditional and boneless wings at 20% and 19%, respectively, of total restaurant sales.(Buffalo Wild Wings, 2013) The remaining revenues is from royalties and franchise fees received from our franchisees. Their debt-free capital structure is a primary factor of the company that puts at a high advantage over their competitors, who contain significant debt, As the company is becoming more efficient, the company‘s margins are expanding. The restaurant sales for company-owned and franchised restaurants are as follows (amounts in thousands):

Increases in comparable same-store sales are as follows (based on restaurants operating at least fifteen months):

With the overall demand for chicken wings at an all-time high, Buffalo Wild Wings has placed their self in a market that is in a competitive industry. Buffalo Wild Wings differentiates itself based of the quality, price-value relationship, and taste of the food. They create a friendly, family, and gaming environment that is unique to a sports bar. The atmosphere of all the restaurants include a place to view all the latest sporting events, a focus on exceptional guest experience, and compete primarily with local and regional sports bars and national casual dining and quick casual establishments, and modern open layout.

At Buffalo Wild Wings, has updated its technology by implementing a standard point-of-sale system in all of the company-owned restaurants which is integrated to their central offices through a secure, high-speed connection. The system works in accordance with their geographic layout in restaurants, allows Buffalo Wild Wings to appeal to families, drinkers, and sports viewers alike.

External Analysis

External factors are as influential as internal factors. Buffalo Wild Wings significant external factor is its reliance on chicken wings sales, they account for over 20% of revenue. Any disruption in the wing price or demand could negatively affect their revenue and sales. As the chart shows the prices of wings over the years.

As Buffalo Wild Wings must continue to explore other purchasing strategies to lessen the severity of cost increases and fluctuations. Like adding new food choices to the menu and keeping other costs down to account for the increase in price of wings. Wings affect the cost of sales percentage of chicken wings represented in terms of total restaurant sales. The market price for traditional wings reached its lowest price in 2011, and the price rose toward the end of 2012. The chart below illustrates the fluctuation in chicken wing prices from quarter to quarter in the last five years. (Buffalo Wild Wings Annual Report, 2013)

Competition is still an external factor, as entrance in to market is easy for an entrepreneur willing to put out the same layout and business format. It is then easy to acquire the same amount of customers by copying the same business and marketing strategy. There are in some direct completion with other restaurants such as Outback Steakhouse, Applebee’s. Cheesecake Factory and other sports type restaurants, however, they are still pulling in less revenue than them all, and BWW revenue growth is much stronger. However, in order to stay ahead of the competition they need to continue to add more choices to the menu, continue the customer loyalty relationship, and price strategy.

Global expansion is also an external factor that if not managed properly could be a weakness. Over expansion and under expansion of the company can be of no benefit whatsoever, especially with the restaurant facility. Expansion of the company has it is demerits for instance, due to its expansion it strains available resources hence can lead to standstill of activities and especially, challenges can arise in the management. If the company does not expand, it fails to take advantage of emerging markets. The essence of entry into emerging markets is that the outcome is reliant on the quality of products as the competitors are placed on an equal footing with a littler advantage over each other.

Organizational Strategies

Buffalo Wild Wings is a dominant market player ranked as the eighth largest restaurant in the U.S. by Technomic Inc. (Merrill, 2002). For the firm to realize growth, it needs to analyze its SWOT analysis and come up with strategies that will seek to minimize its threats, which are mostly external, and work on its weaknesses while taking advantage of its opportunities and maximizing on its strengths. Best value discipline, generic strategy, and grand strategy are several strategies options for Buffalo Wild Wings, however for the company to seek the expansion that they desire they must implement a growth strategy. With this strategy, Buffalo Wild Wings will help to tackle the threats of finding appropriate sites in new and existing markets. It must also acquire funds for constructing new restaurants that are conventional, and get more franchise locations.

Implementation Plan

The objectives and goals of Buffalo Wild Wings must be clear and concise. With the goal of reaching 1000 units domestically and global expansion in mind. The specific goals that need to be implemented include creating a substantial need to raise awareness of the restaurants in new markets through massive advertisements. This will put the firm at par with the competitors and in turn increase sales and consumer base (Smith, 2003).

Most importantly, Buffalo Wild Wings needs to recognize adequate number of appropriate new restaurant sites for it to endure the revenue growth rate it has achieved. It is notable that market acceptance in the new geographic regions may be slow hence interfering with the rate of returns. Product diversity is essential. It will create authenticity and originality in the established and new chains hence ensuring that no restaurant affects the other one in a negative way. Lastly, the restaurant chain should choose a way in which the implementation of the expansion strategy does not strain the company’s resources. This will help the firm to keep up with their competitors and increase the financial growth.

The key functional tactics that must be addresses in order to hire quality management, thorough background and referrals must be made to provide the necessary set of standards that are then applied through employee training. The plan of action is for the hiring and training to be handle by HR, HR to go over recommendations received from applicants, and provide new hires with orientation sessions. This goal is obtainable within the next year. The resource allocation used is the investments from the HR into the new employees that will eventually make good on the return of investment.

In order to compete in the market better the tactic of advertisement on television, word of mouth, and internet campaigns must be successfully implemented using the sources of social networks with the help of marketing executives. The plan of actions include, setting up a viral campaign on YouTube, crowdsourcing for an innovative marketing idea on Facebook, and buying celebrity endorsements. This goal is achievable with a six months deadlines, with milestone that of gaining international exposure. The resource allocation will also be taken from the marketing team for the benefit of the company. In order to locate more places for future locations the tactics of selecting locations based on selection criteria, select locations that they are able to obtain agreeable lease terms, and every site is located in a marketable site with the overview of the operating manager. The action plan includes gathering market data from local offices, scouting for locations with feedback from local residents. The deadline for this is within two years as more time is needed for careful evaluation. The resource allocation will be taken from planning time for operations manager to research sites and budget figures. The last functional tactic of to be able to utilize the company’s resources for expansion strategy by planning a schedule that is efficient and cost efficient. The plan of actions are to come up with budgeted income to account for new expansion and write up a plan for design and construction. This tasks will be delegated to the operations manager with the deadline of two years. The resource allocations to obtain this goal and meet the deadline is allocated from using the operations and project manager in developing blue prints for future layouts and budgets.

The key success factors are in line with obtaining the goals set in place for more customers, better management, more franchises, and better locations for growth. If these goals are achieved then the goal of 1000 units by the end of 2013 will be obtained. The goal for global expansion is within reach, but factors including hiring qualified mangers need to be successfully completed. Further illustrated for the future of Buffalo Wild Wings is a chart for future financials. All the objectives have been budgeted to meet the needs of the company, the company continues to do business and function in the way it has, and then the financial forecast will present the company’s predicted results for the upcoming year. The company recently took in $1 billion in revenue. Employee training and hiring for qualified management is already apart of Buffalo Wild Wings budget, for this goal an additional $500,000 to $1 million operating expenses to pay for HR time and salaries, new training hours, utility bills, and research. For advertisement, the company needs to try and lock down celebrity endorsements, viral campaigns that will cost the company from upwards of $3-4 million. For expansion of new sites, Buffalo Wild Wings has already budgeted and allocated resources to support up to 1200 locations. There is no need to add any additional money to the budget. For the total expenses budgeted would equal, around $4-$5 million additional costs. The added changes would only increase revenue and sales of Buffalo Wild Wings. A forecast of additional growth is illustrated.

A break even analysis was made on the rounded total fixed costs, a variable cost per unit at roughly .10 a unit, the total sales for wings increased with wings per pound purchased at 1.97. So for a year break even analysis costs and expenses will continue to stay medium with profits continuing to rise.

Risk Management Plan

The risk plan for Buffalo Wild Wings takes into account all the outside risk factors that could affect the operations and growth of the company. To access the risks for the growth strategy Buffalo Wild Wings must minimizes individual risk and by having substantial background checks that follow a tier system, back up marketing and advertising plans if the viral campaigns were to not generate the expected outcome and generate a plan if expansion were to be delayed. Once the risks have been accessed and prioritized what risks will have the most impact cost wise, financially, and overall operations. Once all is access the necessary analysis of reducing the probability of these risks factors will be crucial. A contingency plan to reduce the impact on these risks will be made including using the money budgeted to be make up for any impact of operations or loss of sales. Implemented a newer growth strategy with the company’s goals in mind of new sites, newer menu products, and global expansion, and looking to quality headhunters for quality management.

Buffalo Wild Wings has enjoyed substantial success during the last few years and are on track to more revenue growth and earnings. The goal of expansion in reaching 1000 units by the end of 2013 is within reach with a total of 900 units at the end of 2012. Buffalo Wild Wings continued close relationship with their customer base keeps their customers loyal and coming back. The implementation plan of growth strategy will tackle some key objectives to help the company grow even more with better customer interaction and brand awareness, leadership reflected in qualified management, and global expansion to reach international markets. Buffalo wings restaurants are popular businesses in any major metropolitan market or small town given the fact that this is a low-cost cuisine that is popular among pretty much every single American. These businesses frequently operate in a sports bar like capacity by offering a wide selection of buffalo wings, general American cuisine, and provide an atmosphere that usually features large-screen TVs and other forms of entertainment. The startup costs associated with this type of business is considered to be moderately low and generally the amount of capital needed ranges anywhere from $75,000 to $200,000 depending on the specific market. The gross margins are associated with the sale of buffalo wings cuisine is usually very high. Typically, these businesses are able to generate gross margins of 75% to 85% of on each dollar of revenue generated. Most importantly, it is imperative that a buffalo wings restaurant has a liquor license so that beer, wine, and spirits can be sold on site. In some cases, the largest expense to starting a buffalo wings restaurant centers around the acquisition of a liquor license. In some states the cost of a liquor license is extremely high while in other states it is merely a formality in terms of the overall costs.

Given that these businesses are economically stable as far as restaurants go – most lenders and financial institutions are willing to provide an owner with a loan equal to about 80% of the startup costs. The owner of a buffalo wings restaurant is going to need to make a 20% equity injection towards the startup costs which is usually used for working capital, marketing expenses, and inventory purchases. One of the nice things is a race of this business is that inventory spoilage is usually kept to a minimum given that buffalo wings typically are sold on a daily basis and do not need to be stored for a substantial period of time. Of course, within the business plan there should be a full discussion regarding safe food handling procedures and protocols. Most financial institutions and private investors want to see that the owner has a complete understanding of how these businesses operate. As such, a small section of the business plan can be dedicated for this purpose. Beyond information regarding the restaurant in general a three-year profit and loss statement, cash flow analysis, balance sheet, breakeven analysis, and business ratios page should be developed as well. This financial model should feature industry-standard statistics that are on par with that of a sports bar or similar eatery. Beyond the financial model a full demographic analysis needs to be provided as well with a focus on competition which includes discussing any type of sports bar that also operates within the target market. This demographic analysis should also provide information regarding median household income, median family income, population size, population density, and the percentage of people that are under the age of 50. Most owner operators of buffalo wings restaurants find that their target market usually ranges from people aged 21 to 50 years old and the audience is predominantly male.

Of utmost importance to the overall business planning process is the development of a marketing plan for a buffalo wings restaurant. This marketing plan should include information regarding how print advertisements will be used and distributed throughout the target market radius, which is usually about 10 miles for a buffalo wings restaurant. Many owners of these restaurants will provide either free or heavily discounted food and drinks during the first 2 to 3 months of operation in order to familiarize people with the location. Beyond a print advertising campaign, it is imperative that the buffalo wings restaurant also maintain social media profiles on popular platforms such as FaceBook, Twitter, Instagram, Google+, as well as third-party websites such as Yelp.com and Tripadvisor.com. Of special importance to social media marketing is FaceBook and Twitter given that specialized deals and discounts can be distributed to a large followers very quickly. In fact, many local and regional restaurant owners have taken to using social media in order to boost brand-name visibility. Also, recommendations for eateries are now commonplace on websites such as FaceBook – and as such, this can be a tremendous way to boost the following of the business over the first three years of operation. If an operator of the restaurant is unfamiliar with how to properly market their products on a social media platform that may be in their best interest to hire a social media consultant that can put together and manage all pages on these platforms. While this may be a significant upfront expense, the return on investment can be substantially high provided this social media consultant is able to generate a large following.

A buffalo wings restaurant SWOT analysis should be produced as well. This analysis focuses on the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats that are normally associated with this type of eatery. As it relates to strengths, these businesses are able to almost always remain profitable and cash flow positive in any economic climate. This is due to the fact that they have low operating costs and the demand for buffalo wings does not tend to wane during times of economic recession. For weaknesses, given the low start up costs in moderately low barriers to entry – a competitor can easily establish a similar buffalo wings restaurant or sports bar location within any given target market. However, there is really nothing that can be done to mitigate this threat. For opportunities, many restaurants will take to either developing a food truck that can go around and sell buffalo wings to the general public on the street or that it can be used in the course of catering. For large corporate gatherings and sports based parties, many buffalo wings restaurants will provide a substantial amount of catering. As such, this can be one of the ways that a buffalo wings restaurant aggressively expand his operation over a three-year to five-year. Specific to threats, there’s really nothing that is going to impact the way that these businesses conduct operations moving forward. While there are always risks of automation and a decline in the economy – the wings restaurants have remained popular in the most any economic climate and within all markets.

As such, a buffalo wings restaurant can be a strong small business investment as it relates to owning and operating a restaurant. It is important that the owner understand all matters pertaining to seafood handling, marketing, capital raising, business planning, and all other related facets of operation.

Wingstop versus Popeyes: The next great restaurant battle

  • Blackstone is said to be pursuing a purchase of Jersey Mike's for around $8B

What to expect from the upcoming Restaurant Leadership Conference

Fast-food chains will have to think creatively to get back their lost traffic, how wingstop fixed its chicken wing cost problem.

How did Wingstop fix its cost problem?

This week’s episode of the Restaurant Business podcast A Deeper Dive features Michael Skipworth, the chicken chain's CEO.

Wingstop is hitting on all cylinders right now, thanks to the popularity of chicken wings and takeout but also because of its new line of chicken sandwiches, which have helped lure new customers in during different times of day.

But it has also helped the chain with food costs. Chicken wings are the most volatile commodity, certainly among proteins. One year they could hit record prices and the next year they come down considerably. It has given plenty of executives massive headaches trying to deal with them.

But Wingstop’s move into boneless options, like the chicken sandwich, has helped change things. Skipworth talks all about it.

He also discusses technology, delivery and Wingstop’s plan to build its own tech stack and reach its goal of 100% digital transactions.

We’re talking chicken on A Deeper Dive, so please check it out.

Subscriber only, restaurants, food and drink | taste-off: the best supermarket buffalo chicken wings — and the flops.

business plan about chicken wings

Chips are great, and dips are nice, but one of the most welcome bites at any game-day spread is a crispy, tender chicken wing bathed in spicy Buffalo sauce. It’s salty and tangy with just enough meat to satisfy.

Recipes that incorporate inventive and tempting flavor combinations abound, but for this Taste-Off, we headed straight for the freezer section and loaded up on heat-and-eat frozen wings doused in the most popular of all chicken wing flavors — Buffalo.

For the uninitiated, Buffalo sauce is a spicy, creamy mix of butter, cayenne, vinegar and garlic first served in 1964 at a bar in Buffalo, NY. The sauce is used on everything from fries to pizza, but its real raison d’être is to transform the lowly chicken wing into an unforgettable bite.

Before diving into the particulars about frozen buffalo wings, it should be noted that chicken wings are so loved that they spark debates: Which part of the wing is best, the double-bone side (wingette) or the drumette? Should wings be fried or baked? Should the sauce go on before or after cooking? Podcaster Dan Pashman of The Sporkful devoted two entire episodes to the topic, even including instructions on how to properly eat one.

Not that passionate about wings? No problem. Nearly any omnivore will find pleasure in indulging in a spicy, fatty, mouthful of Buffalo sauce-smothered chicken, especially if those wings are chosen wisely.

Great chicken wings have a crispy, chewy coating that encases generous bites of tender, juicy chicken. The best are permeated with punchy sauce that numbs the lips and warms the palate. Bad wings are over-salted, wonky flavored bites wrapped in thick layers of fat and skin.

Here’s the lowdown on the frozen Buffalo chicken wing wins and the ones that should be permanently benched. Nutrition info refers to 3 ounces or about 2 wings.

Good & Gather Buffalo-Style Wings

Bright orange in color, these huge wings have plenty of Buffalo sauce and develop a crust that caramelizes nicely in the oven. They are tingly hot, and the chicken is tender and juicy. 170 calories, 12 g fat, 450 mg sodium, no sugar, 11 g protein. $11.29 for 28 ounces at Target. (4 stars)

Perdue Air Fryer Ready Crispy Hot ’n Spicy Wings

If you like your wings extra hot, you’ll enjoy these crispy bites. Like with most wings, the skin is intact, but the fat underneath is minimal, making them seem extra meaty. 170 calories, 11 g fat, 510 mg sodium, 1 g sugar, 13 g protein. $7.99 for 22 ounces on sale at Raley’s. (4 stars)

Foster Farms Take Out Crispy Wings Classic Buffalo

Unlike most packs of Buffalo wings, these put the hot, vinegary sauce in a separate pouch. The chicken is faultless, but tossing them in sauce after cooking, as per the directions, turns the coating to mush. Tossing them in sauce before cooking would be an improvement. 150 calories, 9 g fat, 630 mg sodium, no sugar, 12 g protein. $12.99 for 16 ounces at Safeway. (3 stars)

TGI Fridays Buffalo Style Chicken Wings

An extra-thick layer of coating and fresh roasted chicken flavor make these a good choice. More heat would be an improvement. 160 calories, 11 g fat, 410 mg sodium, no sugar, 10 g protein. $6.99 for 9 ounces at Safeway. (2½ stars)

Great Value Buffalo Wings

Tyson any’tizers hot wings buffalo style.

These extra-salty wings taste more like buttered popcorn than Buffalo wings. Kids might like them, but true fans of Buffalo wings will be sorely disappointed. 190 calories, 13 g fat, 760 mg sodium, no sugar, 14 g protein. $8.99 for 22 ounces at Walmart. (1½ stars)

Signature Kitchen Buffalo Wings

These massive wings have moist meat and a pleasant spice hit, but they’re much too salty. 170 calories, 760 mg sodium, no sugar, 11 g protein. $10.99 for 22 ounces at Safeway. (1 star)

I work at Aldi and cook for my family of 4. Here are 9 high-quality dinner items I can't believe I got at the budget grocer.

  • As an Aldi employee , the budget grocer is my go-to for high-quality dinner items for my family.
  • My kids love the Bremer Salisbury steaks and Kirkwood Buffalo-style chicken wings.
  • The Priano spinach-and-cheese manicotti makes a delicious, comforting dinner.

Insider Today

I've worked at Aldi for two years and am always searching for dinner items that feel high-end . Turns out I'm not alone, as more shoppers turn to Aldi to grab groceries and quick meals for their families.

To help you decide which dinner items to add to your cart, here are nine luxurious-feeling foods I've gotten at Aldi .

The Priano ravioli taste like they're from a restaurant.

business plan about chicken wings

The Priano ravioli are simply delicious. The mushroom version is stuffed with roasted portabellas, and the Italian-sausage one has a meat-and-cheese filling.

I boil the pasta, cover the ravioli with an Alfredo sauce , and serve with pan-seared green beans and garlic knots for a meal that's ready in under 30 minutes.

It may seem simple, but Mama Cozzi's Take-and-Bake five-cheese pizza tastes like it's from a pizzeria.

business plan about chicken wings

Mama Cozzi's Take-and-Bake five-cheese extra-large pies are ready in less than 25 minutes, making them perfect for a family pizza night.

We like the basic cheese pizza , but the brand sells other versions like supreme, sausage, and mega-meat. I serve the pizza with everyone's favorite beverages for a dinner that pleases my husband and kids.

My family loves the flavorful Park Street Deli fully cooked chicken dishes.

business plan about chicken wings

Thawing, seasoning, and cooking meat is a task, so when I don't feel like putting in the effort, I turn to the Park Street Deli entrées. They come in various flavors, but my family's favorites are the Korean-style barbecue and white-wine pepper-sauce chicken.

The Korean-style barbecue version comes with a sweet, tasty sauce, and the white-wine pepper-sauce chicken comes with mushrooms mixed in. Both meals are fully cooked, so all you need to do is pop them in the microwave for a few minutes.

I pair these chicken thighs with mashed potatoes and broccoli for a filling meal.

The Priano spinach-and-cheese manicotti is the perfect pasta dinner.

business plan about chicken wings

The Priano spinach-and-cheese manicotti is the perfect entrée to serve alongside a nice salad and French bread.

I simply bake the manicotti until the pasta is warm, which takes about 20 to 30 minutes.

The Bremer bistro lasagna with meat sauce tastes like a home-cooked meal without all the work.

business plan about chicken wings

I always love seeing family-size meals available at Aldi because I feel like I get more bang for my buck. The Bremer bistro lasagna with meat sauce takes all the prep work out of the usually labor-intensive dish.

One package comes with 4 ½ servings, which makes this meal perfect for my hungry family. I like to pair the lasagna with garlic bread and asparagus.

If I need a really easy dinner, I go for the Reggano cheesy skillet dinner kits.

business plan about chicken wings

The Reggano cheesy skillet dinner kits come together in less than 15 minutes. My location carries two flavors: creamy beef stroganoff and ultimate cheeseburger.

Each box comes with pasta, sauce, and seasoning, so I don't even have to make a side if I don't want to. However, a nice slice of bread is perfect for soaking up the sauce.

The Kirkwood Buffalo-style chicken wings are one of my kids' favorite dinners.

business plan about chicken wings

Kirkwood Buffalo-style chicken wings with french fries are an easy weeknight dinner that puts smiles on my kids' faces.

The wings are also available in sweet-barbecue and plain flavors, so there's an option for every palate.

I pair the Bremer Salisbury steaks with mashed potatoes and a salad.

business plan about chicken wings

The Bremer gravy and Salisbury steaks from the freezer section come with six servings, so it goes a long way in my house.

I cut them in half for my children, so there's enough for dinner and leftovers the following day. I pair the steaks with mashed potatoes and a salad.

Reggano pasta entrées are worth picking up from the store.

business plan about chicken wings

Reggano pasta entrées are popular among customers at my location, and for good reason. These delicious meals come in three different flavors: angel hair with herbs, shells and white cheddar, and Parmesan cheese.

I simply cook the pasta, add the sauce mix, and serve. Better yet, each pasta dish is ready in 15 minutes or less.

We ate at Crisppis Chicken for the first time today. We enjoyed the food. My wife had the Chicken & Waffles and she loved them both. The waffles are soft, fluffy and delicious. I had a chicken sandwich and fries. They were both good as well. They gave us a free dessert that was very good! They didn't have a name for it yet, but it was set to be available for sale the following day. Which would be 03/30/2024. The dessert was like pineapple "Italian ice" with real pineapple pieces lining the glass, some sort of cookie like sticks, and strawberries. We will be going back.

I was visiting a friend in Huntington West Virginia. We decided to go to this new place. They have a self-serve point of service system. It would be nicer if there were some employees greeting you with a smile and asking what you wanted and giving suggestions. Very minimal service. My friend got the fried chicken and I got a chicken sandwich. The breading was not too thick, but greasy unfortunately with a strange aftertaste. The fried chicken was ok but should've been more moist and more juicy. Not as much flavor from the chicken in the fried chicken as I would've hoped for. The chicken sandwich was average with the pickles and the sauce . It wasn't an actual chicken breast, but two decent size chicken tenders. Not a bad meal, but definitely could use improvement. I saw on the news, some strange ranting by the manager. Why pull out the race card. Why not actually sit down and try the chicken. See if it could be improved on the recipe actually come out and be friendly to your customers. Listen to legitimate criticism. Improve your product . Being angry and accusing white people of being racist bc they think your chicken and your food could be better not the way to go

Photo of L S.

Interesting chain chicken spot on the corner downtown. There is not a lot of seating, but bright and clean and new. Backed by a former college player, who went on to do impressive things outside of the state. Not sure this is a long term fit here. Chicken is good, breading thin and flavorful, served up hot on waffles or with a side of crinkle fries. Annoyed by ordering off a kiosks tablet, impersonal and slow moving for those customers unfamiliar with this process. 2.00 donuts available. Too full as the food is filling.

business plan about chicken wings

A very awkward set up. The self serve POS is clunky and hard to use. The Food itself is mediocre at best. Service pretty much non existent since you have to do most of the work yourself. I did not really understand the atmosphere either. There are too many chicken choices to be so blah. If I lived here I would not be coming back

Photo of Ariel M.

The waffles are great, very fluffy and a lot of variations of flavor toppings. Chicken is also good I like their special sauce. The donuts taste similar to the waffles so I don't know if I'd get both again together but they'd be good separately. Staff was super friendly. Their boxes are nice and sturdy to go bags. I like the decor with the lighted steam. Overall it's a must try to say you tried it at least!

The chicken here is just not that good. Ketchup? There is little to no service here. And why does the food take so long? There are a lot of things that need change in this place and I thinks it's management. I'll come back in a couple months see if it can improve. Bye for now Felicia

Photo of Vick K.

What a horrible experience. Food was alright, they have a small menu. Chicken is dry and filled with grease. Staff provides slow service and extremely rude. Kiosk sucks and is more of a headache than just ordering directly. It's unfortunate because I was hoping for a roscoes type restaurant close by but this is far from it. luckily I travel to California, I'll just save my chicken and waffle cravings for California. IYK Roscoes Then you'll know what I mean. Do better! Your manager needs to be replaced ASAP.

Photo of Benjamin K.

Interesting marketing tactic, blaming the community for your subpar chicken and customer service. I've ordered your victim card, and it should be coming in the mail soon. I'm sure YOU and your crappy attitude actually have nothing to do with all the hate you receive. FTR, EVERYONE loves chicken, just not YOUR chicken.

Photo of Tana N.

When you walk in, you place the order yourself at one of two terminals. We waited probably 15 - 20 minutes or so on our food, which isn't bad, but considering they serve chicken tenders, fries, and waffles, it shouldn't have taken that long to make. It's not like they're carrying a large selection of items. In my opinion, chicken and fries, their main staple, should always be ready to go. When we got out food, it was big. I'll give them that, but it lacked flavor. The chicken was not well seasoned and didn't taste brined at all and was very bland. Think of breading chicken at home with just flour and a small amount of salt and deep frying it; and because the chicken tenders were big, they really do need a lot of seasoning and some brining to be good. I had high hopes for the Crisppi's sauce because I LOOOOOVE Cane's sauce, but again, it was bland with hardly any seasoning. I will say the crinkle cut fries were good though. We also had a broken table that would spin around. We left that one as soon as another became available. All in all, considering the price of the food and how the food tasted, I likely won't get anything from there again.

Photo of Sam R.

Horrible service!! Management is a joke and refuses to fix problems with orders. Will charge you for items you did not receive and then refuse to fix the issue. The GM is an absolute nightmare of a person and is a walking ball of misery and foul attitude. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME!!

Southwest Jet Makes Emergency Landing After Engine Cover Falls Off

The plane, a Boeing 737-800, returned safely to Denver on Sunday after the crew reported that the cover came apart during takeoff and struck a wing flap. No injuries were reported.

An aerial view of Denver International Airport in Colorado. Numerous Southwest Airlines planes are lined up.

A Southwest Airlines flight safely returned to Denver International Airport on Sunday after the engine cover of a Boeing 737-800 fell off during takeoff and struck the wing flap, the Federal Aviation Administration said.

Flight 3695 was headed to Houston but returned to the Denver airport around 8:15 a.m. after the crew reported the engine cowling, or cover, fell off.

The plane, which had 135 passengers and five crew members, was towed back to the gate. The F.A.A. said it would investigate.

In a statement, Southwest Airlines said its maintenance teams were reviewing the aircraft. Southwest said the passengers boarded another plane and arrived at William P. Hobby Airport in Houston approximately three hours behind schedule.

“We apologize for the inconvenience of their delay, but place our highest priority on ultimate safety for our customers and employees,” the statement said.

A video taken from a window near the plane’s wing posted on social media showed a blue cowling peeling off the engine and twisting in the wind as the plane moved down a runway before a large portion of it eventually fell off.

“Let’s go ahead and declare an emergency for Southwest 3695 and we’d like an immediate return,” a crew member said, according to radio transmissions with an air traffic controller. “We’ve got a piece of the engine cowling hanging off.”

The incident happened during a time of increased scrutiny about other commercial air travel episodes, starting with the harrowing Jan. 5 emergency on Alaska Airlines Flight 1282 in which a panel known as a door plug blew off a new Boeing 737 Max 9, delivered to the airline just months earlier.

No one died but it triggered investigations into Boeing’s Max 9 and raised questions about quality control problems in its plane production.

Then came a string of eight episodes last month involving United Airlines aircraft in a two-week span.

Maintenance issues, loose tires and missing panels were among the issues afflicting six Boeing and two Airbus jets. A safety expert said such cases were typical and were being “falsely conflated with Boeing’s troubles.”

A Southwest Airlines Boeing 737-800 plane

Boeing engine cover falls off during takeoff, prompting US investigation

Incident during Southwest flight will add to pressure on aviation firm as it shakes up leadership

US airline regulators have launched an investigation after an engine cowling on a Boeing plane fell off during takeoff and struck the wing flap, the latest in a series of safety problems facing the aircraft manufacturer.

Southwest Airlines flight 3695 rose to about 3,140 metres (10,300ft) before returning safely 25 minutes after takeoff to Denver international airport at about 8.15am local time on Sunday. It was towed to the gate after landing.

The Boeing aircraft with 135 passengers and six crew members onboard had been headed to Houston, Texas. No one was injured.

The airline said maintenance teams were reviewing the aircraft. It was a 737-800, a model that the troubled 737 Max series was intended to replace.

The incident will add to the problems facing Boeing as it prepares for a major shake-up in its leadership . Its chief executive, Dave Calhoun, last month announced he would step down at the end of this year, while the commercial planes boss, Stan Deal, also left with immediate effect.

The board chair, Larry Kellner, was replaced by Steve Mollenkopf, who last week told shareholders the board “will leave no stone unturned in our efforts to get this company to where it needs to be”.

Boeing’s safety record has come under renewed scrutiny this year after a door plug panel came off a new Alaska Airlines 737 Max 9 jet at about 5,000 metres (16,000ft) on 5 January.

In the aftermath of that incident, the Federal Aviation Administration grounded the Max 9 for several weeks, barred Boeing from increasing its rate of production of the aircraft and ordered it to develop a comprehensive plan to address “systemic quality control issues” within 90 days.

Boeing production has fallen below the maximum 38 Max planes a month the FAA is allowing, while the US justice department has opened a criminal investigation into the incident.

Boeing has been trying to increase the rate of 737 Max production for several years since its bestselling plane was allowed to fly again after an extended ban. Regulators around the world banned the 737 Max from flying after 346 people died in two crashes in 2018 and 2019 because of a design flaw.

The US plane-maker spent years trying to rebuild its reputation and reassuring airline customers that its culture had changed to prioritise safety over profits. The door plug incident seriously undermined those efforts.

Despite the controversy over the safety problems, Boeing last week revealed it had increased Calhoun’s pay by 45% to the highest since he took over. Boeing awarded Calhoun $32.8m (£26m) in pay, after adding $30m in stock options on top of his $1.4m salary. However, he may not collect all of the options if he steps down at the end of the year as planned.

The Southwest plane entered service in June 2015, according to FAA records. The airline declined to say when the plane’s engine had last undergone maintenance.

Footage posted on X showed the ripped engine cover flapping in the wind with a torn Southwest logo.

The FAA is investigating several other recent Southwest Boeing engine problems. A Southwest 737 flight on Thursday aborted takeoff and taxied back to the gate at an airport in Texas after the crew reported engine problems. The FAA is also investigating a Southwest 737 flight on 25 March that returned to Austin airport in Texas after the crew reported a possible engine problem.

A Southwest 737-800 flight on 22 March returned to Fort Lauderdale airport in Florida after the crew reported an engine problem. It is also being reviewed by the FAA.
