Sarala Birla University offers Ph.D. degree programme in various disciplines as per guidelines given by UGC regulation 2018 and Ordinance issued by Academic Council of Sarala Birla University. The award of Ph.D degree is in recognition of high academic achievements, independent research and application of knowledge to the solution of technical, scientific, economic, social, environmental, etc. problems in various disciplines.

The research work shall be an original work characterised either by the discovery of facts, or by a fresh approach towards the interpretation and application of facts. It shall demonstrate the candidate’s capacity for critical examination and sound judgment and shall represent original contribution to the existing knowledge. The degree of Doctor of Philosophy will be awarded in the discipline of the department in which the candidate is registered.

• Applications are invited for Full and Part time Ph.D programmes starting I-Sem, Academic Year 2020-21 in SBU,Ranchi, Jharkhand.
• Candidates should proceed to fill the Online Application Form only after they satisfy themselves that they fulfill all the eligibility criteria.
• Apply for one department only.
• The Department-wise list of candidates shortlisted for Online Entrance Test along with guidelines will be displayed on the University website as per dates mentioned under important dates.

RELAXATION FOR SC/ ST CANDIDATES

• NOC from the University is mandatory for employees of the University which shall be obtained before appearing at the admission test for the Ph.D.program.
• Employees from other organizations shall produce NOC from his/her respective employers before payment of admission fees.
• In case of the candidates with other grade point scale, the decision of the equivalence made by the assigned committee of the University shall be final.

A limited number of University Research Fellowship (URF) with a fellowship amount of Rs. 25,000/- per month for the first two semesters and Rs. 28,000/- per month for the next two semesters available depending on the performance. The minimum marks required for URF may vary across the departments and department wise minimum marks shall be decided by an appropriate committee. These URFs shall be distributed based on the performance in the admission test, academic career and interview. Ph.D. admission test is mandatory for candidates aspiring for the URF.

DEPARTMENT-WISE & SPECIALIZATION-WISE URF POSITIONS(at SBU campus only)

Fellowships are available in limited specializations.However, candidate can choose any specialization, if desires to pursue Ph.D. in self-financing mode.

Candidates willing to pursue Ph.D. in self-financing mode (without URF) are free to choose Ph.D. area as well as Guide.

Selection in the Ph.D. programme shall be based on the performance in an Online Entrance Test, Previous academic record and an Interview. Only such candidates, who obtain the minimum required marks in Online Entrance Test and the indicated total percentage of marks, will be considered for final preparation of result as given below:

Those with UGC-CSIR/DBT/BINC/ICMR-JRF/DSTINSPIRE/NET/SET/GATE and all other similar all India fellowships based on a written test may be exempted from the Entrance Test but will be required to appear in the interview.

Note: Candidates will not be entitled to get any kind of financial assistance from the University.

All candidates are advised to get ready with the following supporting documents in original for the interview process and during verification of documents at a later stage along with a set of photocopies of the same.

• Marksheet of Class 12 / Intermediate or equivalent
• Certificate and Marksheets of Graduation
• Certificate and Marksheets of Post-graduation
• College Leaving Certificate
• Migration Certificate
• Candidates with qualifications acquired through correspondence or distance-learning programmes are eligible only if (a) they acquired such qualifications as working professionals / while in employment, (b) the programmes are recognized by the DEC- UGC-AICTE or MHRD, (c) they have passed the qualifying examination at the time of applying, with minimum requisite marks as given in eligibility criteria. They must enclose photocopies of (i) work experience certificate (ii) pass certificate and marksheets of qualifying examination (iii) proof of the programme recognized by the DEC-UGC-AICTE or MHRD in letter head of the University/College /University, with theirapplication.
• UGC-CSIR/DBT/BINC/ICMR-JRF/DSTINSPIRE and all other similar all India fellowships based on a written test for pursuing Ph.D. Admit card and Score card (if applicable)
• Caste certificate / special category certificate (if applicable) in proper format, signed by appropriate authority.
• Sponsorship letter, NOC, Experience Certificate and Facilities available to carry out the research work at their place of working (if applicable) for Sponsored / Part- Time candidates.

All candidates belonging to the SC and ST categories must note and obtain caste certificates which should be in proper format and should be signed by appropriate authority of rank not less than SDO. (Note: Final reservation proportion will depend on notification, if any, issued by competent authority and as accepted by the University).

Candidates belonging to Persons with Disability [PwD] category must send photocopy of relevant certificate(s) in proper format signed by appropriate authority.

The Admissions Office / concerned Departments may not undertake detailed scrutiny of applications before verification of documents, and all shortlisted applicants called for Entrance Test are allowed to appear in the Test on purely provisional basis, subject to their eligibility being verified at the time of interviews. Merely being allowed to appear in the Test will not be considered as a ground for being eligible for admission to the Ph.D. program. Further, mere submission of application form does not entitle a candidate to appear for the Test.

The residential requirement is essential to build the research atmosphere in the University. The residential requirement for part time Ph.D. candidates shall be a minimum period of one semester at the University. However, for full time scholars, the minimum residential requirement is of six semesters.

• If a student withdraws / leaves the University for any reason in the mid-session without completing the entire programme, all fees paid including the caution money will be forfeited by the University.
• If a student with fellowship (University/ Project / External) withdraws / leaves the University in the mid-session without completing the programme, the entire amount paid to him / her towards fellowship need to be returned by the student before leaving the University.

Phd seats for the academic session 2023-24, central university of jharkhand phd admission 2023-24 eligibility criteria.

• Master’s degree programme or qualification declared equivalent to the master’ degree/ M.Phil. in relevant subjects (see program specific eligibility criteria in table given below). with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed or equivalent qualification form a foreign educational institution accredited by an assessment and accreditation agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country to access, accredit or assure quality and standards of the educational institution.
• A relaxation of 5% marks or its equivalent grade will be allowed for those belonging or SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer) / Differently abled, Economically Weaker Section (EWS) categories. The relaxation in marks is subject to the decisions by the University Grants Commission (UGC) India, from time to time.

PhD Program wise Eligibility Criteria

Interview Process

All candidates must secure minimum 50% marks in the entrance test for becoming eligible for interview.

A relaxation of 5% marks will be allowed in the entrance test for the candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC/differently-able category, Economy weaker section (EWS) and other categories of candidates as per the decision of the UGC from time to time.

The final information regarding the date of interview will be notified on the University’s website. Candidates are advised to keep visiting the University website regularly.

Performance Evaluation Weightage

For candidates taking admission through direct mode:

• Fixed weightage for NET (with JRF): 70 Marks
• Fixed weightage for NET (without JRF): 50 marks
• Interview: 30 Marks

For candidates who have qualified examination conducted by CUJ :

• Marks obtained in Entrance test: 70%
• Interview: 30%

• Maximum duration of the program is six years, from the date of admission to the program which may be extended, in exceptional cases, by two years through the process of Re-registration.
• Women candidates and persons with disability (more than 40% disability) may be allowed relaxation of two years in the maximum duration.

Eligibility Criteria

Academic Qualifications

• One-year / 2-semester Master's Degree program after a 4-year / 8-semester Bachelor's Degree program, provided that the candidate should have secured a minimum of 75% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade on a point scale wherever the grading system is followed.
• 2-year/4-semester Master's Degree program after a 3-year Bachelor's Degree program
• Qualifications, declared equivalent to the Master's Degree by the corresponding statutory regulatory body
• Equivalent qualification from a foreign educational institution accredited by an assessment and accreditation agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country to assess, accredit or assure quality and standards of the educational institution.
• Master's degree is in Management or allied disciplines like Economics, Commerce, Public Administration, Costing, Accounting etc, with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade in a point scale, wherever grading system is followed

Work Experience:

Process of selection.

The Selection of Applicants in to the PhD program is made through Application, Research Aptitude Test and Personal Interview.

After provisional admission into the Ph.D. Program all students will go through an Induction Session, at the University, wherein they are acquainted with the program methodology. Thereafter, course materials will be provided to each candidate for independent study.

Course Work

All applicants who are provisionally admitted are required to take up course work for a period of two semesters. The objective of the Course Work is to acquaint, help and equip a research scholar with the current methodologies for undertaking research. Course Work consists of two courses, Course Work-1 and Course Work-2.

All the students have to attend contact sessions for Course Work, conducted by the University, in two spells. Schedules for the contact sessions will be communicated to the students in advance.

Allocation of Supervisor

A candidate, after successful completion of the mandatory course work, will be allocated a Research Supervisor by the University, on the basis of research interest of the candidate, as indicated at the time of personal interview during the admission process.

Publication Requirement

Every student should publish at least two research papers related to his / her research topic, in refereed journal and make at least two paper presentations in conferences / seminars before submission of the thesis and produce evidence of the same in the form of acceptance letter or the reprint which is to be appended to the thesis.

• The selection of applicants into the Ph.D. Program is made through Application, Research Aptitude Test and Personal Interview.
• Research Aptitude Test (RAT) will be conducted on May 14, 2024 on CBT (Computer Based Test) format at select locations all over India (which will be given on the website). Applicants holding, M.Phil. Degree or qualified in UGC-NET in the same or allied discipline, in which Ph.D. is proposed to be pursued, will be exempted from appearing for the Research Aptitude Test.

Research Aptitude Test (RAT) will be for 2 hours and the syllabus for the test will consist of 50% on Research Methodology and 50% will be on Management subjects.

• The applicants who secure at least 50% marks in the Research Aptitude Test will be eligible to be called for Personal Interview at the University, wherein the students’ motivation to pursue the program and the broad areas in which the student would like to pursue research will be discussed. Selection of the candidates will be done by giving 70% weightage to the Test Score and 30% for Interview Performance. The admission decision will be communicated after the interview process.

All applicants who are provisionally admitted are required to take up course work for a period of two semesters. Course Work-1 is a foundation course for research, which includes Research Methodologies and Techniques, Quantitative Methods, Computer Applications, Literature Survey, Statistical Analysis, Research Ethics, Research Report Writing, Effective Presentations etc., Course Work-2 covers major functional areas of management and allied subjects, like strategy and technology management which help the scholars to pursue research in contemporary and relevant areas for industry and society, which may be inter-disciplinary. Coursework sessions are conducted by distinguished domain experts from industry and academia.

All the students have to attend contact sessions for Course Work, conducted by the University, in two spells. Schedules for the contact sessions will be communicated to the students in advance. All scholars are evaluated in course work, as per the regulations of the University. A scholar has to obtain a minimum 55% of marks or its equivalent grade in the UGC 7-point scale in course work to be eligible to continue the program.

Preparation of Research Proposal

The candidate will identify a research topic and prepare the research proposal under the guidance of the supervisor. The same will be presented, in an open Seminar, in the presence of his/ her Supervisor and the members of Research Board, for approval. If the presentation is adjudged satisfactory, the candidate will be registered for Ph.D. Program.

Progress of Research Work

• After approval of the research proposal and registration for Ph.D., the candidate will be required to do literature survey and formulate clearly the objective and scope of the thesis.
• Thereafter, the candidate will design the survey methodology and take up collection of the needed primary data/ take up the survey.
• The candidate should submit at the end of every semester, a report on the “Progress of research” and also present the same in a Seminar.
• The University gives feedback on the progress in the form of a Progress Card.

Pre-Submission Thesis Seminar

This seminar is to be presented by the candidate, whose Ph.D. thesis is nearly ready for submission. The candidate is required to present the gist of the Ph.D. Thesis work in the prescribed format using Power Point. In addition, the student is required to bring with him/her the primary data collected / survey reports or any other exhibits, considered important. Any feedback, comment or suggestion considered suitable by the Research board should be incorporated in the final manuscript of the Thesis.

Submission of the Ph.D. Thesis and Evaluation

Prior to submission of thesis, the scholar is required to make a presentation of draft thesis to Research Advisory Committee, External Domain Experts, Faculty Members and Research Scholars. Feedback and comments obtained therein may suitably be incorporated in the thesis. On submission of the final thesis in the prescribed format after checking for plagiarism, it will be evaluated by a panel of examiners consisting of Research Supervisor and two external examiners outside the State of Jharkhand. If the panel is satisfied with the thesis, open Viva Voce examination will be conducted by Research Supervisor and at least one external examiner and the student’s Defense is evaluated accordingly.

Prescribed fee is payable upto the semester in which the scholar is declared eligible for award of Ph.D degree.

Application Form: Applicants can obtain Application Form in any of the following ways:

• Purchase from the Admissions Office on payment of Rs. 1,000.
• Download from the University website (www.iujharkhand.edu.in) and fill it in own handwriting.
• Fill the application form online -->(www.iujharkhand.edu.in/online_registration.html) by making online payment of Rs.1,000.

Personal Interview:

Original Certificates of academic qualifications and domicile certificates should be produced for verification at the time of registration. The original certificates will be returned after verification. The applicants also have to submit “No Objection Certificate” from the current employer (in the prescribed format) at the time of registration.

Attested Copies of Certificates

Students have to enclose self attested copies of the following certificates

• Date of Birth Certificate/Class X Certificate.
• Marksheets / Degree certificates (as may be applicable).
• Experience Certificate.

Fee Schedule

Admission fee.

Admission fee of Rs. 10,000 is to be paid by all the selected applicants immediately after the admission decision is announced but not later than June 08, 2024.

Program Fee

The program fee is Rs. 42,000 per semester for students domiciled in Jharkhand and Rs. 47,500 per semester for nondomiciled students. Students should register for every semester and pay the fee at the beginning of the semester, as per the due dates, which will be indicated in the Student Handbook. The first semester fee is to be paid by June 08, 2024.

Students, desiring to avail Domicile Fee Concession have to submit “Domicile Certificate” issued by the competent authority by June 08, 2024. Otherwise, Non-domicile fee will be applicable

Fee payments can be made in any of the following modes:

• By way of Bank Demand Draft drawn on a Scheduled Commercial Bank in favor of “The ICFAI University, Jharkhand - Fee Collection A/c” payable at Ranchi, Jharkhand.
• Payment can also be made at the University campus by way of Credit Card/Debit Card.
• Fee payment by cash is not accepted. Any requests for withdrawals, refunds will be processed as per prevailing UGC notification / guidelines, with regard to Refund of fees and non-retention of Original Certificates.

NOTIFICATION FOR Ph.D PROGRAMME

Applications are invited in the prescribed form from the eligible candidates for enrolment into Ph.D programme in the following subjects – Chemistry, Botany, Agriculture, Biotechnology, Computer Science, Commerce and Management in Jharkhand Rai University, Ranchi.

Full-time Students: Preferably individuals who would like to pursue Ph.D. in-house. Candidates with National level fellowships like UGC NET-JRF, CSIR NET-JRF, DBT-JRF, etc. are preferred and exempted from the written test.

Financial Assistance: Full-time PhD students admitted into the PhD program are eligible to be considered for a University fellowship of Rs. 10,000/- per month in the first year, which may be extended further up to maximum three (3) years depending upon their performance.

For full time Ph.D students complete semester fee is waived off. They need to pay only admission fee and thesis evaluation fee.

It will be obligatory on the part of every admitted Full time student to undertake 8 to 10 hours (per week) of work as assigned to him/her by the University.

Part-time Students: Preferably individuals working in organizations providing basic facilities and environment for research

Duly filled in applications shall be submitted along with Application Fees of Rs. 1000/- and required documents on or before 31-01-2022 Online or to Admission Department, Jharkhand Rai University, Kamre, Ratu Road, Ranchi, Jharkhand – 835222.

Eligibility: A candidate who has obtained any Master’s Degree or equivalent from UGC/AICTE recognized body with a minimum of 55% marks (50% for SC/ST/Cat-I and Differently-abled candidates) in aggregate or equivalent grade.

Exemptions for Entrance Examination: The applicant fulfilling one of the following conditions will be exempted from the entrance examination:

Those candidates who have qualified NET/ SLET/ M.Phil / People with 15 years of experience in related field with exceptional achievements. (Subject to the discretion of the Vice-Chancellor). However they have to qualify in the interview conducted by the University for admission into Ph.D programme.

Selection of Candidate: Selection of candidates for Ph.D programme will be based on Entrance Test and marks obtained in the qualifying Examinations. Final cutoff marks will be decided by the University before publication of the results.

• Attested copies of Caste Certificate and other relevant documents should be enclosed.
• The application fee is not refundable under any circumstances.
• Incomplete/ application not in the prescribed form will be rejected. No further correspondence will be entertained in the matter.
• Meeting the minimum eligibility criteria does not guarantee admission into the PhD program.
• Only shortlisted candidates will be called to attend the Admission Test / Viva-voce.
• It may be noted that the final decision on admitting candidates to the Ph.D program will be on the sole discretion of the University and will be binding to all.

Ph.D Commerce Part Time at Jharkhand Rai University, Ranchi Offline Course

Course details.

Ph.D. Commerce Part-Time shall be for a minimum duration of three years, including course work and a maximum of six years. Extension beyond the above limits will be governed by the relevant clauses as stipulated in the Statute/Ordinance of the individual Institution concerned offered by Jharkhand Rai University, Ranchi.

Eligibility Criteria

A candidate who has obtained any Master’s Degree or equivalent from UGC/AICTE recognized body with a minimum of 55% marks (50% for SC/ST/Cat-I and Differently-abled candidates) in an aggregate or equivalent grade.

Admission Details

Selection of candidates for Ph.D programme will be based on Entrance Test and marks obtained in the qualifying Examinations. Final cutoff marks will be decided by the University before publication of the results.
