what you need to know
The Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Creative Writing is a four-year UBC degree with courses in poetry, creative non-fiction, short fiction, novel, playwriting, screenplay, writing with media, editing and publishing, spoken word, and writing and community learning. It is designed to build students’ range and confidence to the professional level, while familiarizing them with practical aspects of the writing life. Students apply to major in Creative Writing after the completion of their first year.
Students also have the opportunity to study Creative Writing as a minor in combination with another discipline or to combine their major in Creative Writing and the requirements of another BA program that offers a combined major (currently Art History and Visual Culture, Cultural Studies, and English).
Additionally, courses are offered that appeal to and benefit students in a variety of disciplines, including management, science, and medicine. The Power of Story and The Power of Metaphor offer creative tools for framing and understanding human experience and perception.
The Creative Writing program provides students with the opportunity to study literature and literary criticism as well as key aspects of the writing process—from crafting a scene, to pacing a story, working with imagery, and hooking a reader’s interest. Classes are taught by professional writers with a wealth of knowledge and experience they share with students at intimate workshops designed to build students’ range and confidence as they grow as writers. Students are encouraged to share their work and hone their skills with faculty who are actively involved in the editing process.
An intimate learning community is a hallmark of our program. Upper-year classes are capped at 15 students.
UBC Okanagan’s Creative Writing program offers a wide variety of foundational and advanced courses in poetry, creative non-fiction, short fiction, novel, playwriting, screenplay, writing with media, and editing and publishing. Writing Your Life
Adult Special Education students use poetry to explore ways of knowing
Okanagan College's Adult Special Education program has a unique creative writing course called "Writing Your Life," where students can explore other ways of knowing through stories, poems, songs, prayers, letters and field trips. Meet the students and read their work below.
Poems by Ricky Barnes
Ricky Barnes, when he is not cheering for his favourite soccer team (or football, as he would call it) Liverpool Football Club England, watching movies, and connecting on Facebook, can be found writing amazing poetry in ASE’s creative writing course, “Write Your Life." Below are three of Ricky’s favourite poems.
I feel LUCKY because a vase of cactus white flowers is calming, I feel ALIVE watering my roses Pink, Red and White flowers, I feel INSPIRED when Phoebe soccer cleats running fast, I feel DELIGHTED Phoebe match done, so proud of her, I feel AMAZED when I go the pond and ducks go by, I feel ADVENTUROUS when I go to the Forest and the Sun out, I feel EAGER my first car, is coming, it’s coming, I feel HAPPY as long as my scooter is ‘perfick’.
I Went Out Today
I went out today Into the Beach There were People Volleyballing And Viewing and Visiting. There were People Walking And Waving and Working. There were People Swimming And Snorkeling and Sliding There were People Happily Human
Day and Night
Sun takes the coldness in the cloudless blue sky. The night guides the moonlight sky forward in black shadow The stars shows the bright sky shining brilliantly Stone looks frightening at the pools edge
Poems by Ellen Mackenzie
Yellow blanket.
Tattered faded yellow blanket Needs to be pitched In the sad garbage can Bent and misshapen Being turffed around Heartbroken to see it go My eyes are full of tears One less faded yellow blanket To be carted and stowed in a cupboard The other blankets are moping So forlorn Soft and yellow It lived in a crib A sucky blanket for Emma To cuddle and roll around on It lays with a shredded dog toy Waiting for me to retrieve it That tattered faded yellow blanket So full of memories
Scurrying Legs
Loons cry ever loudly Water lapping at the sand We walk leisurely Trying not to step on ants Spiders are racing around
Ice Eagle
Sunshine warms the earth Ice is breaking on the lake Eager to catch fish Before the eagle can strike I watch his talons open

Life Writing Project
In 2013, our faculty and students begin working with United Active Living and the Garrison Green Seniors Residence to create the Life Writing Project. During our wonderful partnership, many of the interested seniors at Garrison Green were published several times throughout the series. This unique opportunity brought accomplished creative writing students together with senior citizens in a semester-long series of interviews that culminate in an anthology of published work.
In 2019, the Immigrant Services Calgary reached contacted one of our faculty members to teach "Creative Writing to Seniors" and this presented a new opportunity to design a different approach to the Life Writing Project.
A Colourful Life: A Collection of Poems and Stories by Immigrant Seniors , was the result. This anthology was a first for Immigrant Services Calgary and launched with great fanfare to a full house of seniors and community members and also, in attendance, was the Honourable Josephine Pon, Minister of Seniors and Housing with the Government of Alberta. You can check out the story here.
This project has a curricular tie-in with our capstone course, "Experiential Studies in Creative Writing".
I feel very much enjoyable in this class. This will help us to connect others. At first, I feel shy but now I feel pleasure. At first I cannot speak English, now I can say something and understand language. I passed my days very pleasure. Every person is friendly to another. Writing class is very much helpful to me. It helps to write something and talking with others. Writing is good exercise of our brain. It helps us to work the brain. Brain is good, our health is good. Creative writing helps us to protect our brain. — Student, Community Initiatives for Immigrant Seniors Program (CISP)

Will I get caught if I buy an essay?
The most popular question from clients and people on the forums is how not to get caught up in the fact that you bought an essay, and did not write it yourself. Students are very afraid that they will be exposed and expelled from the university or they will simply lose their money, because they will have to redo the work themselves.
If you've chosen a good online research and essay writing service, then you don't have to worry. The writers from the firm conduct their own exploratory research, add scientific facts and back it up with the personal knowledge. None of them copy information from the Internet or steal ready-made articles. Even if this is not enough for the client, he can personally go to the anti-plagiarism website and check the finished document. Of course, the staff of the sites themselves carry out such checks, but no one can forbid you to make sure of the uniqueness of the article for yourself.

Can you write essays for free?
Sometimes our managers receive ambiguous questions from the site. At first, we did not know how to correctly respond to such requests, but we are progressing every day, so we have improved our support service. Our consultants will competently answer strange suggestions and recommend a different way to solve the problem.
The question of whether we can write a text for the user for free no longer surprises anyone from the team. For those who still do not know the answer, read the description of the online platform in more detail.
We love our job very much and are ready to write essays even for free. We want to help people and make their lives better, but if the team does not receive money, then their life will become very bad. Each work must be paid and specialists from the team also want to receive remuneration for their work. For our clients, we have created the most affordable prices so that a student can afford this service. But we cannot be left completely without a salary, because every author has needs for food, housing and recreation.
We hope that you will understand us and agree to such working conditions, and if not, then there are other agencies on the Internet that you can ask for such an option.
How It Works
EssayService strives to deliver high-quality work that satisfies each and every customer, yet at times miscommunications happen and the work needs revisions. Therefore to assure full customer satisfaction we have a 30-day free revisions policy.

Our team of paper writers consists only of native speakers coming from countries such as the US or Canada. But being proficient in English isn't the only requirement we have for an essay writer. All professionals working for us have a higher degree from a top institution or are current university professors. They go through a challenging hiring process which includes a diploma check, a successful mock-task completion, and two interviews. Once the writer passes all of the above, they begin their training, and only after its successful completion do they begin taking "write an essay for me" orders.
