It’s during this time that students really understand the difference between 11.59 pm and 12.00 pm.

Thanks to online platforms such as Sweetstudy.com, Help With Assignment, and Course Hero, students get to interact with subject gurus who help them complete their assignments fast.

Pay depends on the subject, time taken, and the level of expertise required to ace the assignment.

To understand how this side hustle works, here is a look at some of the assignments for cash sites.

As of now, prices on the site start at $9.5 per page with no cap on the maximum you can earn depending on the difficulty of the assignment.

3. Just Answer: E arn Money Answering Homework Questions

Just Answer

Founded in 2003, Just Answer has over 10 million members with more than 12,000 verified experts. This is an A + BBB-accredited platform with a 4.6-star rating on Trustpilot .

With an excellent rating of 4.6 stars out of 5 on Trustpilot, School Solver is indeed a place that lays a win-win foundation for both tutors and students. Here, students set a price on the amount they are willing to pay for an assignment.

Thereafter, if subject experts find the price fulfilling they then post a detailed answer that the students can only access after payment.

To join as a tutor, register on their page, fill out your profile, and make sure you have a working PayPal account. Upon completion, you’ll do a quiz as per your subject in which you must score 90% in order to pass.

Generally, School Solver charges a commission of  20% plus an additional 2% withdrawal fee. Lastly, most tutors earn an average of $10 – $15 per hour.

To increase your potential earnings, go for urgent questions that have a 30-minute deadline and earn you 90% of the quoted price.

Get Paid To Do English Homework

Regardless of the subject, you can always get paid to do homework by students. As mentioned earlier, learning can be strenuous, languages included, and people are willing to give anything to have their homework done.

With this in mind, the deeper knowledge you have about a specific subject, the higher your chances are of landing a homework gig.  Nonetheless, it is unfair to do homework for students, especially if the work going to be graded.

That’s why I recommend doing it as a reference or tutoring aid. When it comes to the English language, All Home Work is worth looking at.

7. AllHomework

sites that pay for homework

AllHomework is looking to not only hire English tutors but also Geography, Accounting, and Biology teachers.

You’ll be required to be well-versed in writing essays and also be proficient at using authoring tools such as Word, Google Docs, and PowerPoint.

If accepted, the platform gives you access to a database of assignments where you get to select orders that interest you.

AllHomework does not disclose its base rate but promises to pay “very highly” in comparison to the industry rates.

Answer Survey Questions & Get Paid!

One of my favorite ways to make money answering questions is to do surveys.

Answering survey questions can actually be quite profitable. If you’re not experienced in a high paying field like medical or legal, you may only earn a few bucks giving your advice on question and answer sites. But with surveys, anyone can give their opinion.

Pay for surveys varies from as little as a $1 to more than $25 per survey.

While you won’t qualify for every survey, if you join a few different sites, you should get a steady stream of survey questions to answer. The best part about surveys is that some are super short and others are in-depth, so you can find ones to suit your schedule.

Here are some websites that pay you to answer survey questions…

Other Ways to Sell Your Advice for Money

Above, I’ve given you three different methods for making money answering questions. But, that’s not the only way to make cash from answering questions online.

Here are a few more ways to earn money by answering questions online…

43. Sell courses

Are you wondering, “ how do I sell my advice for money”

Well, then you might want to consider selling a course .

Are you knowledgeable about photography? Or perhaps you know a lot about programming? Whatever it is, it’s likely that you have knowledge of at least one topic. So why not create a course around it and earn money from your expertise?

You could offer video courses, PowerPoint presentations, eBooks and more. You can create a course on anything from writing to physics and sell it online.

Here are a few sites where you can sell courses:

You could earn $100s or even $1,000s a month selling online courses. According to Skillshare, its top teachers earn $3,000 plus!

44. Self-publish books with Kindle Direct Publishing

Another option to consider is selling books through Amazon’s Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP). You can sell non-fiction books there. Anyone can sign up and list a book for sale on Amazon.

So you could create how-to books, guides, and more on whatever subject it is that you’re knowledgeable about.

The good thing about the KDP program is that it gives you a pretty high commission! You earn up to 70% in royalties.

You can make $100s or even $1,000s a month selling books with KDP.

  • Get started here .

45. Start a blog

Sure, these paid question and answer sites are good because you can simply sign up and get paid to answer questions.

Often though, with these sites, you’re having to give pretty detailed answers and the amount that you earn doesn’t always seem worth it for the amount of time that you’ve put into writing a detailed answer.

With blogging though, you can write detailed posts, and then keep making money from those posts over and over again.

Of course, you’ll need to build up a following and monetize your blog. There are a few ways to do this such as:

  • Putting Google ads on your site
  • Using affiliate links in your posts
  • Creating sponsored content for brands.

Once you have a following, you can start to increase your income.

To get started, you’ll need to use a platform like WordPress.org to publish content and get a domain name and hosting from sites like Bluehost, HostGator, and GoDaddy.

So if you’re knowledgeable about a particular topic, then consider creating a blog post about it.

While you won’t get much traffic to the blog at first, over time you can build up traffic and you could eventually earn $1,000s a month from your blog.

46. Online coaching

Another way to get paid to answer questions is to offer an online coaching service. If you’re knowledgeable and experienced with a subject, then you could provide a one-on-one online coaching service.

You could set up a website to advertise your services, and you could also consider setting up social media accounts, and a Facebook group for your community.

As an online coach, you can set your own rates. Online coaches earn around $27 an hour.

47. YouTube

YouTube is another platform where you can share your expertise. Whether it’s fitness, fashion, or cooking, you can start up a YouTube channel on pretty much any topic that you’re knowledgeable about.

Since YouTube gets more than 1 billion users each month , you could build up a large following on there. Many YouTubers earn $1,000s or even millions of dollars from their channels.

Once you have enough channel views, you’ll be eligible to become a YouTube Partner. As a YouTube Partner, you can earn money from the ads that play on your videos. You can also get paid to create sponsored videos for brands too.

Just choose a topic and then start your channel.

Although YouTube doesn’t say how much it pays its content creators, online figures suggest that YouTubers earn from $0.25 to $7 for every 1,000 views they get. To get an idea, read our post on how much do YouTubers make .

You get paid through your AdSense account. Payment options for AdSense earnings include Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) and check.

48. Become a customer support agent

If you want to get paid to answer questions for people, then you might want to consider being a customer support agent. Customer support agents respond to customer questions and help them with any issues that they may have.

Here’s where you can find work as a customer service agent:

  • American Express

Customer service agents make around $15 an hour on average. Pay can be anywhere from $11 to $21 an hour.

49. Become a mystery shopper

You could consider doing some mystery shopping work . Mystery shoppers visit local stores, restaurants, and other businesses and then they provide feedback on their experience. They have to answer questions about things like how clean the place was or how well they were treated by the business’s employees.

Here’s where you can find work as a mystery shopper:

  • Field Agent
  • iSecretShop
  • Secret Shopper

You can make from $8 to $25 an hour as a mystery shopper.

50. Test out websites

Another way that you can make money answering questions is by testing out websites. Website testers visit websites and provide feedback on things like how quickly the site loaded and how easy it was to navigate. One company that pays you to test out websites for companies and clients is UserTesting. For every 20-minute test that you complete, UserTesting will pay you $10.

What about Quora and Reddit?

Online, I’ve seen a lot of people asking, “Does Quora pay you to answer questions?”

I’ve also seen people asking whether you can get paid to post on Reddit.

Quora and Reddit are two popular websites where people can ask questions and discuss everything from writing to their favorite TV shows.

I like reading through Reddit in particular. So I totally understand if people wonder if they can actually get paid for the time they spend there.

Quora and Reddit do not directly pay you or anyone to answer questions.

These sites are free to use and are basically there for people to chat about different topics.

However, while Quora and Reddit won’t pay you to answer questions, you can still earn money from both platforms – but indirectly.

You know how I mentioned that you could make money from starting a blog, offering coaching, selling books, or from a YouTube channel?

Well, you could use Quora or Reddit to promote yourself as an expert in your field and then to drive traffic to your book, blog, YouTube channel, or website.

Now, be careful here. Sites like Reddit have guidelines for threads and moderators who police these guidelines. So don’t just go on Reddit or Quora and start promoting your own stuff.

Instead, take the time to participate in the community. Answer people’s questions. As you start to get more upvotes and more involved in the community, you can then start to promote your own stuff.

For example, I was reading through a discussion on Reddit about writing, and a writer posted a link to an article on their website that offered advice related to the question asked by the person who started the discussion. This link was helpful, and it also promoted the writer’s site.

On Quora, you can even create a tagline that describes your experience in a few words, like “Professional graphic designer.”

Basically, you answer questions on these sites and then link to any of your own helpful articles, books, or videos that you’ve created.

If you hang out in the relevant subreddits or answer relevant questions on Quora, then you could send traffic back to your business. And more traffic means more leads and sales for you.

Just make sure that you aren’t too salesy and instead focus on helping others.

Get Paid for Your Knowledge!

Answering questions can earn you anywhere from a few bucks to $1,000s. The best thing you can do to ensure that you maximize your earning potential is to provide people with helpful and detailed answers. The more helpful an answer is, the more people are going to like your advice meaning that you make more money!

Give the sites and tips above a try and start earning money!

Doing my homework for me is fast and easy, 1. request a free quote, 2. we find the perfect expert, 3. review and approve, 4. pay the invoice, 5. sit back and relax, why you should pay someone to do your homework, hear from one of our clients....

I just want to say that statistics is NOT my thing. I’m a creative arts major, and this stats course was just a hurdle I had to jump over to get to my degree. I never planned to use it again, and I didn't think I could pass the class.

As the final exam approached, I was swamped with other assignments, my job, and some personal things. I was already barely getting by in the class. Panic mode max.

I searched Google for online class help and found Pay me to do your homework. I knew it was real when I watched the video of the founder being interviewed on the news.

The process to have them take my final was super easy. Brittany was who helped me out and answered my questions.

Even though I was pretty confident I was still nervous and anxiously waiting to hear how the final went.

Well it went great! I got a 97% and was so relieved! I passed the class and never have to think about stats ever again 🙂

I just want to say a big thank you to this company and all they did to help me out. I wish I knew about this sooner!!

FAQ: How to pay someone to do my homework for me

Can i pay someone to do my homework for me.

Yes. You can pay someone to do your homework, just like you'd pay a tutor. However, it's hard to find someone who is good at doing your homework assignments. You can try Craigslist or find someone locally, but there's not a ton and they might not be actual experts in your subject. If you pay someone to do your homework online, make sure they're legit. Many foreign companies, mainly in India and Pakistan, make a bunch of websites, lure students in with unreasonably cheap prices, and then delete the website after they're flooded with bad reviews because they scam people. Then they do it again with a new website. Some students ask "can you do my homework for money" and the answer is absolutely. We started helping college students with their homework over a decade ago, and it's why we named our company Pay Me To Do Your Homework. We'd love the opportunity to help you with your homework — get a free quote , no account sign up needed.

How much does it cost for someone to do my homework?

Generally, homework costs about $99 to $249 per assignment , but it really depends on these three things: 1. How hard it is 2. How long it takes 3. How fast you need it To pay someone to do your homework, it takes the time and expertise of a real person. A short Psychology 101 essay due in a week might cost only $100 because there are many people who can do it well. On the other hand, a 20-page report on Advanced Organic Chemistry due in two days might cost $500+ because it needs a highly-skilled person who can start immediately - and that person logically earns more. You can see our pricing page for starting prices for our homework services and online classes, but the best way to see how much your homework costs is to get a free quote .

How long does it take to do my homework?

As quickly as you need, within limits. Our ideal minimum timeline is 24 to 48 hours for most homework assignments, although we’ve done projects with as little as 2 to 4 hours notice. We can't do some projects with extremely short turnaround times and we'll tell you that ASAP so you can make other arrangements (for example, we can't complete a 30-page paper in 2 hours).

Do you offer discounts to do my homework for me?

Yes. You can get discounts on homework and online courses two ways: ‍ 1. Pay upfront instead of a payment plan. 2. Place multiple orders and get a bulk discount. We also have discounts for military, veterans, and first responders.

Do you offer payment plans to do my homework for me?

Yes. You can use a payment plan for full courses and some large homework projects. Ask your sales rep if your homework project is eligible for a payment plan.

Why should I pay someone to do my homework or take my online class?

Most students who pay someone to take their online class or do their homework are simply busy. Is that you? Maybe you have a busy workload in other classes, or participate in on-campus activities. Or maybe you work part or full-time! It doesn't really matter the reason you're not able to get to your homework, just that you need to pass the class to keep your college career moving. Just say do homework for me and we'll spring into action. We are here to help regardless of the reason you need someone to do your homework or take your online course.

Can I hire someone to do my homework?

Yes. With Pay Me To Do Your Homework you can easily hire someone to do your homework and get a guaranteed A or B. And you can be assured you'll get a true expert who will complete your homework quickly and professionally! If you're looking to pay people to do your homework, you are in the right place!

Can I pay someone to do my assignment?

Yes. Whether you just have a single homework assignment you need completed or if you need your entire course taken, we are ready to get you a free quote and get started right away!

The Basics About Apps that Help You With Homework–Free and Paid

The bottom line is, homework sites and homework apps are intended to help you complete your take-home assignments successfully. They provide assistance that ranges from answering questions you submit through a portal all the way to one-on-one tutoring, depending on the help you need!

The big plus for both homework help apps and websites is that they usually offer help on-demand. So if you can’t make it to after school tutoring, or if you're studying late into the night (it happens!), you can still access the help you need!

If you’re specifically looking for an answer to the question: “what is the best homework help website ?,” you can check out our article on those here! [LINK COMING SOON]

What’s the Difference Between a Homework Help Website and an App?

So if they’re both designed to give you a little boost with your take-home assignments, what makes homework apps and websites different from one another? First off, homework help websites are optimized to be used on a desktop, while apps are designed to be run natively on mobile devices. So depending on which devices you have access to, you may decide to use a website instead of an app…or vice versa!

The other big difference between homework help apps and websites is that they sometimes offer different features. For instance, with the Photomath app, you’ll be able to submit photos of math problems instead of having to type everything out, which is easier to do by using an app on your phone.

If you’re trying to decide whether to go with a website or app, the good news is that you may not have to. Some homework help websites also have companion apps, so you can have the best of both worlds!

What Makes a Homework Help App Worth Using

Apps that help you with homework should ideally help you actually learn the material you’re struggling with, and/or help you turn in your work on time. Most of the best apps for homework help allow you to ask questions and provide answers and explanations almost immediately. And like we mentioned earlier, many of these apps let you send a picture of a question or problem instead of writing it all out.

But homework help apps offer more than just quick answers and explanations for your assignment questions. They also offer things like educational videos, lectures, tutorials, practice tests and quizzes, math solving tools, proofreading services, and even Q&A with experts.

And the best part is, most offer these services 24/7!

What You Should Look Out For

When it comes to homework help, there are lots–and we mean lots –of apps willing to prey on desperate students. Before you download any apps (and especially before you pay to sign up for any services), read reviews of the app to ensure you’re working with a legitimate company.

Keep in mind: the more a company advertises help that seems like cheating, the more likely it is to be a scam. Actual subject matter experts aren’t likely to work with those companies. Remember, the best apps for homework help are going to help you learn the concepts needed to successfully complete your homework on your own.

If you’re not sure if an app is legitimate, you can also check to see if the app has an honor code about using their services ethically , like this one from Brainly. (We’ll go over the difference between “homework help” and “cheating” in more detail a little later!)

How Expensive Are Apps That Help You With Homework?

A word to the wise: just because a homework help app costs money doesn’t mean it’s a good service. And, just because a homework help app is free doesn’t mean the help isn’t high quality. To find the best apps, you have to take a close look at the quality and types of information they provide!

Most of the apps out there allow you to download them for free, and provide at least some free services–such as a couple of free questions and answers. Additional services or subscriptions are then charged as in-app purchases. When it comes to in-app purchases and subscriptions for homework help, the prices vary depending on the amount of services you want to subscribe to. Subscriptions can cost anywhere from $2 to around $60 dollars per month, with the most expensive app subscriptions including some tutoring (which is usually only available through homework help websites.)

The 5 Best Apps for Homework Help

Okay, now that you’re up to speed on what these apps are and how they can help you, we’ll run you through the best five apps you can use.

Keep in mind that even though we recommend all of these apps, they tend to excel at different things. We’ve broken these apps into categories so that you can pick the best one for your needs!

Best Free Homework Help App: Khan Academy

  • Price: Free!
  • Best for: Practicing tough material

While there are lots of free homework help apps out there, this is our favorite because it actually supports learning, rather than just providing answers. The Khan Academy app works like the website, and offers the same services. It’s full of information and can be personalized to suit your educational needs.

After you download the app, you choose which courses you need to study, and Khan Academy sets up a personal dashboard of instructional videos, practice exercises, and quizzes –with both correct and incorrect answer explanations–so you can learn at your own pace.

As an added bonus, it covers more course topics than many other homework help apps, including several AP classes.

Best Paid Homework Help App: Brainly

  • Price: $18 for a 6 month subscription, $24 for a year
  • Best for: 24/7 homework assistance

Brainly is free to download and allows you to type in questions (or snap a pic) and get answers and explanations from both fellow students and teachers. Plus, subject matter experts and moderators verify answers daily, so you know you’re getting quality solutions! The downside is that you’re limited to two free answers per question and have to watch ads for more if you don’t pay for a subscription.

That said, their subscription fees average around only $2 per month, making this a particularly affordable option if you’re looking for homework help on a budget. Brainly subscriptions not only cover unlimited answers and explanations on a wide variety of school subjects (including Art and World Languages which aren’t always included in other apps), they also provide tutoring in Math and Physics!

body-photomath-logo-2

Best App for Math Homework Help: Photomath

  • Price: Free (or up to $59.99 per year for premium services)
  • Best for: Explaining solutions to math problems

This app allows you to take a picture of a math problem, and instantly pulls up a step-by-step solution, as well as a detailed explanation of the concept. Photomath subscription services also include animated videos that break down mathematical concepts–all the way up to advanced Calculus!--to help you better understand and remember them.

The basic textbook solution service is free, but for an additional fee you can get extra study tools, access to one-on-one tutoring, and additional strategies for solving common math problems.

Best App for STEM and English Homework Help: Studypool

  • Price: Varies; you’ll pay for each question you submit
  • Best for: Science and English homework help in one app

When it comes to apps for science and English homework help, there aren’t lots of great resources out there, much less out there all in one place. While Grammarly is a good service for proofreading, SparkNotes has some decent summaries, and Khan Academy covers science, the best of the bunch if you need help with both subjects Studypool. Instead of using lots of different apps for STEM and English help, they’re combined together here! But while Studypool has great reviews, there are some downsides as well.

The Studypool Q&A model is a little different than other homework help apps. After you create a free account, you ask questions, and tutors submit bids to answer them. You’ll be able to select the tutor–and price point–that works for you, then you’ll pay to have your homework question answered. You can also pay a small fee to access thousands of notes, lectures, and other documents that top tutors have uploaded.

The downside to Studypool is that the pricing is not transparent . There’s no way to plan for how much your homework help will cost, especially if you have lots of questions! It’s also not clear how they choose their tutors, so you’ll need to be careful when you decide who you’d like to answer your homework questions. That said, if you only need a few questions answered per month, this could be cheaper than other monthly subscription services.

Best Homework Scheduling App: MyStudyLife

  • Best for: Keeping track of your schedule and deadlines

If the reason you’re looking for homework help is less about finding answers to questions and more about needing assistance with organization and time-management , MyStudyLife is a great option. This is a cross-platform planner that allows you to store your class schedule, upcoming tests, and homework assignments in the cloud so you can access it all wherever you are, and on any device.

One of the unique things about it is that it easily works for daily or weekly rotating class schedules that can get confusing, helping you keep track of when you need to finish your homework based on your changing schedule. You can get reminders for upcoming classes and assignments as well as past-due homework and any revisions you may need to do. It can even let you know when you need to start studying for a big test!

Best of all, you can actually schedule assignments and study sessions for multiple nights, and specify how much of the task you got done each night. That way you’ll know how much additional time you’ll need to spend!

While homework apps might seem like magic, it's important to weigh the pros and cons before you commit to one.

What Are the Pros and Cons of Using Homework Help Apps?

Homework help apps can be useful tools if you’re struggling in any of your classes. But there are a few problems you might run into if you don’t use them ethically and responsibly.

Below we’ll cover some of the good and the not-so-good parts of using homework help apps to complete your take-home assignments.

3 Pros of Using Homework Help Apps

Let’s start with the pros of using apps for homework help.

Pro 1: All-Around Better Grades

This is undeniably the main pro and the reason apps that help you with homework are so popular with students. Not only can you potentially get better grades on individual assignments, because they help you learn tricky concepts, you can also earn better grades overall .

Just keep in mind that if you want better grades you have to actually learn the material you’re studying, not just find easy answers. So be sure to use apps that provide good explanations . That way you’ll have the mental tools you need to succeed on your class exams and on standardized tests for college.

Pro 2: Flexibility

It’s hard to beat homework help that you can access anywhere you are from your mobile device. You can also get assistance whenever you need it since the best apps offer their services 24/7. This is especially useful for students who need to study during hours when their free school resources aren’t available because of extracurriculars, jobs, or family obligations.

If you need convenient and flexible homework help or tutoring services to fit your schedule, apps can be your go-to resource.

Pro 3: Individualized Learning

Sometimes the kind of learner you are doesn’t match your teacher’s style of teaching. Or maybe the pace of a class is a little too fast or too slow for your tastes. Homework apps can help by allowing you to learn at your own speed and in ways that support your own learning style.

You can use their features, such as educational videos, 24/7 conversations with experts and peers, and tutorials to review concepts you may have forgotten. These apps can also let you dive deeper into topics or subjects you enjoy! With homework help apps, you get to choose what you need to learn and how you learn it.

body-red-x-false-stop

3 Cons of Using Homework Help Apps

Next, let’s look at the cons of homework help apps.

Con 1: Questionable Info

Unfortunately there are lots of less-than-reliable homework help apps out there. They might not hire actual experts in their fields to provide answers and create study tools, or they rely on user-submitted answers that they don’t verify. In those cases, you might not be getting the accurate, thorough, and up-to-date answers you need to really learn.

In addition to the possibility of running into plain-old wrong answers, even the best apps sometimes just won’t have a specific answer you need. This could be because you’re enrolled in an advanced class the app doesn’t really cover or because of the algorithm or chatbot a particular app uses.

If that’s the case , your best bet will likely be to talk to your teacher or a free tutor (if your school provides them) to get help answering your question.

Con 2: Information Overload

While having tons of information at your fingertips can be helpful, the sheer amount and variety of videos, tutorials, expert answers, and resources a homework app provides can be overwhelming . It’s also easy to get sucked into a research rabbit-hole where you learn new things but don’t actually get your work done. This is especially true for students who tend to be easily distracted.

Additionally, you may be learning to do things differently than you’ve learned them in class , which could cause problems. For example, if your math teacher asks you to solve a problem one way, but you learned to do it differently through an app, you could get confused come test time!

Con 3: Cutting Corners

There are a lot of apps out there that bill themselves as “the best app for cheating.” They allow users to type in a question or take a picture, then instantly provide an answer without any explanation of the material. Many of these are scams or provide unreliable answers, but not all. Some apps are legitimate and provide quick and easy answers that could allow you to do your whole homework assignment in minutes.

The problem is that even though taking shortcuts on homework to save time is tempting, it can keep you from really learning. The point of practicing concepts and skills is so you develop them and can access them whenever you need to. This is especially true if skills build on one another, like in a math or English class.

Sometimes s truggling with an assignment or question, trying, failing, then trying again until you succeed can help you learn difficult material. If you don’t let yourself really try, and instead take too many shortcuts, you may end up behind.

body-cheat-cheating-cc0

When Does “Help” Become “Cheating”?

When it comes to using homework help apps, sometimes the difference between “help” and “cheating” is really clear. For example, if you’re using an app to get answers while you’re taking a test, that’s definitely cheating . But what if you’re struggling with a math problem and need to know the correct answer so you can work backwards to learn the process? Is that “cheating” or is it “help?”

The truth is, not everyone agrees on when “help” crosses the line into “cheating .” If you’re not sure, you can always check with your teacher to see what they think about a particular type of help you want to get. That said, a general rule of thumb to keep in mind is to make sure that the assignment you turn in for credit is authentically yours . It needs to demonstrate your own thoughts and your own current abilities. Remember: the point of every homework assignment is to 1) help you learn something, and 2) show what you’ve learned.

So if you’re relying on an app to do all of the work for you, there’s a good chance using it might constitute cheating.

Think of it this way: say you’re studying for an upcoming math test, and are stumped by a few of the questions on the study guide. Even though you’ve tried and tried, you can’t seem to get the right answer because you can’t remember the steps to take. Using an app to explain the steps as you’re studying is “help.” Using the app to get answers so you can make a good homework grade is “cheating.”

The same is true for other subjects: brainstorming essay ideas with others or looking online for inspiration is “help” as long as you write the essay yourself. Having someone read it and give you feedback about what you need to change is also “help,” provided you’re the one that makes the changes later.

But copying all or part of an essay you find online or having someone write (or rewrite) the whole thing for you would be “cheating.” Ultimately, if you’re not generating your own work or learning to produce your own answers, it’s probably cheating.

5 Tips for Finding the Best Homework Help App for You

If you’re serious about using a homework help app, our expert tips can help you pick one that’s right for you and your budget!

#1: Decide What Tools You Need to Succeed

While most apps offer Q&A services, the best apps provide study tools to help you learn the material you need to learn .

For instance, if you’re a visual learner, you might need an app that provides lots of videos. If you learn best by reading, an app that provides lots of in-depth written resources might be better for you. Or, if you learn best by actually doing things, look for an app that provides practice tests and quizzes, along with explanations for correct and incorrect answers.

Before committing to an app, take a quick survey of the tools they offer users to make sure they meet your unique learning needs.

#2: Decide Which Subjects You Need to Study

Not all homework apps are created equal. One might provide tutoring in math and science, but no proofreading services to help you with writing. Another might be perfect for American History, but what you really need help with is your Spanish class. So, before you can decide which app is best for you, make sure to create a list of the subjects you need the most help in.

#3: Do Your Research

As we’ve said before, there are tons of homework apps in the app store to choose from, and the most important thing you can do is research what they offer students. Services, prices for those services, and subjects that the apps cover all vary, so it’s important that you look into your options. We’ve compiled our all-around favorite (and reliable) apps here, but it’s still a good idea to do your own research to find out what might meet your individual needs best.

body-five-star-best-number-one

#4: Learn Why People Like and Dislike the App

Maybe you’ve heard the phrase “buyer beware?” It means that the person buying something should check for quality before actually handing over their money. This applies to both free and paid homework apps, but especially those that actually cost money.

Before you download anything, be sure to read the user reviews . While all apps will have both positive and negative reviews, you want to look for one that has more positive than negative. And if you’re considering paying for a service, be sure that users think it’s worth the price overall!

#5: Budget Yourself

If you find a paid app that provides the learning tools you need, covers the subjects you need to study, and that has good reviews overall, set a budget to pay for it before you hit that “install” button. 5 Ways to Work at Home Helping Kids With Homework

I f you are looking for a way to earn money remotely helping kids with homework, I have a list you will want to check out. There are several companies now that pay tutors and teachers to help their clients (kids, teens, and in some cases college students) with homework.

Offering homework help online in many cases is just side money, but it may appeal to you if you've ever done any tutoring or teaching or just happen to be academically gifted. And being able to offer the help online is a plus and far more convenient than having to travel to the home of a student, or to a school.

Below I've listed five companies that are almost always seeking people to provide homework help in a variety of different subjects, entirely online.

Good luck if you apply for anything!

5 Ways to Work at Home Offering Homework Help

1 – studypool.

After you apply as a tutor on the Studypool website, you can then browse the site for homework questions you think you'd be qualified to answer. You get to request a fee for the questions you're interested in helping with, and the students can decide whether or not they want to work with you based on what you are charging.

Once you submit your answer and the student accepts it, you will receive your pay.

You can log in on Studypool and work whenever you want, although there will be certain times of year that there aren't as many questions to help with (summer and the Christmas holidays).

2 – GeeklyHelp

GeeklyHelp specializes in homework help for college students. The students send out help requests and wait for a tutor “match” based on GeeklyHelp's AI algorithm designed to find the perfect tutor to help with their problem.

You will chat with the student you've been assigned to one-on-one until the problem is solved, and then you receive your payment.

According to the site, most tutors working with them earn on average $20/hourly. Payments are made weekly via PayPal, Payoneer, or Skrill, and you're free to choose your own hours.

You have to apply and prove your competence in the subjects you claim to be an expert in prior to acceptance.

3 – SchoolSolver

SchoolSolver is the most basic-looking of all the options I've listed for you. Just click on “Answer Questions” when you visit the site, and you'll be presented with a list of homework questions students need help with, along with the amount they are willing to pay for assistance.

If you know the answer to the question, you can add it, but the buyer cannot see the answer unless they pay. This helps guarantee you get paid for your help.

I do see a lot of room for error here and students possibly claiming your answer isn't good so they don't have to pay, but then using it anyway … so just be a little cautious with this one.

Payments are made via PayPal. There do not appear to be any requirements to sign up and start answering questions.

4 – Growing Stars

Growing Stars is a bit more professional. They offer online tutoring services for elementary, middle, and high school students.

Sessions are held online and one-on-one via a whiteboard. You teach the students using the same textbooks they have in school.

There is no mention on the website of what you are paid.

The candidate registration form is located here. You are also asked to select which subject you'd like to teach in.

5 – 24HourAnswers.com

24HourAnswers.com provides online tutoring and homework help services to students for over 400 subjects.

If you are interested in tutoring for 24HourAnswers.com, you will need at least a Master’s degree, but if you’re an exceptional student with at least a Bachelor degree you can still apply with great spoken and written English skills.

Payments are made monthly via ACH Payments, Bank Transfer (International), PayPal and Payoneer.

I hope this helps you if you were looking for some work at home options and ways to earn extra cash helping kids and teens with their homework. Good luck!

How fun would it be if you get paid to help a student out? Students across the globe have various queries in subjects they are weak at. If you are well-versed in that subject, then you can answer their doubts and get compensated.

I have come across several websites that pay you to answer students online. You don’t need to connect to them over video chat ( like Cambly ). This makes it perfect for introverts and camera-shy people.

List of globally-accepting websites that pay you to tutor students online

I have found several online tutoring and homework help websites that accept people from all over the world.

They have different payment methods but most of them prefer Paypal or Payoneer . I have also attached some payment proofs for some of the sites.

PhotoStudy Expert

MyDocent has registered offices in USA, Singapore, and India. It follows the same model of allowing students to request answers and tutors to accept or reject them.

It also allows you to make negotiations with the student regarding payments, which is kind of odd.

MyDocent is not a well-known site, and I didn’t know about it until one of my readers told me about it.

She was also kind enough to show me payment proof, which makes it a legit site.

Chegg offers homework help to study, and also provides expert help along with various textbook solutions and study material.

Coursehero Tutor is a freelance tutoring opportunity (according to them). They have over 10 million students so you will never be out of work.

Top tutors make over 1500$ a month according to Coursehero, so it sounds like a great way to earn a side income.

Studypool charges 20% of the student fees as commission , which is surprisingly low compared to several other platforms

They have a much wider selection of subjects, ranging from Computer Science to even Marketing. You can even get Writing jobs on this platform.

Top educators earn over 7500$ a month from Tutorme, according to them.

studypool payment proof

Sweet Study is a relatively lesser known platform. It is mostly geared towards highschool students, with subjects to match. They are also known as the Homework Market .

The site also sells reference answers, and this is why they advocate for work to be free from plagiarism. Reference answers can be purchased even by tutors while helping on other tasks.

After working on a task, the  student rates you according to their satisfaction . Ratings help tutors to rise above the ranks and get more students to request for their help. Thus, ensure that your account is always on a 5 stars rating.

At SweetStudy, you can earn  from $5 to $20 for every assignment . It pays its tutors through  Payoneer ,  Western Union ,  PayPal  and  TransferWise .

Tutors are paid  75% of payments made by each student for their assignment . Hard work and consistency are the only way to make more money from SweetStudy while at home.

Tutorme has been in this industry for long and is a very well-developed and professional platform.

It provides you with several tools such as whiteboard, audio/video chat, screen sharing , etc. to teach the students. They cover 300 subjects so there’s a lot of things you can teach, ranging from high-school to college curriculums.

They only have a 4% acceptance rate for tutors, so it can be a bit difficult.

Tutor.com has been in the game for the longest of time, and has a very streamlined process for both application and payments .

It allows you to tutor students remotely and earn from the comfort of your home. Their application process is a bit long and verifies the tutors thoroughly.

Tutorbin operates as a question-answer board , where students post their questions/assignments. You can select any assignment you wish to complete and submit it’s step-by-step solution.

They have over 100 subjects you can teach, ranging from Thermodynamics, Kinematics, to Humanities and Maths.

Upon approval, you will be credited. Payments happen every week , so you can get pretty often from them.

how much can i earn with tutoring sites

CallTutors is a community of Subject Matter Experts . You can apply for any of their field or subject, and help students with their academic problems, Programming problems, Assignments & Discussion, Essay and Research Paper, Projects, Homework, and other writing needs.

Knowledge of various referencing styles (such as APA, HARVARD, IEE, etc.) would be beneficial in your application .

Eduboard looks like a website from the early Internet days. But they have a strong student base, and lots of features such as an interactive whiteboard that can help you in problem-solving.

They take 20% commission and pay you the rest 80%.

24houranswers is another homework help platform with a special focus on providing quality tutors.

They only recruit tutors with a degree (bachelors, masters or PhD.) which makes them a great way to get your homework done.

iTalki is a language learning platform where freelance tutors from all across the world proficient in different languages offer courses with a fee/rate decided by themselves and learners get to choose the course they would like to enroll in. It is, in many ways,  a freelance teaching platform .

There is a whole list of languages that you can teach, with 39 languages in total. This is the best part as most of the  popular language tutoring platforms  only stick to teaching English.

Here is a payment proof from iTalki. It shows the withdrawal made on the platform using Paypal.

italki payment proof

You’re paid based on  the number of hours you teach . You are free to put your own pricing rate per hour, however, there’s a golden rule in freelancing: don’t undersell or oversell yourself.  Charging $10-12 per hour usually works  for a lot of users. Students are happy to pay such rates for good quality language teaching.

People usually  earn around $2000-$3000 per month . You can choose to do this part-time or even as a full time job and it pays well. Payments are made via  Paypal  and  Payoneer . The minimum threshold for withdrawal is $30.

iTalki also has an affiliate program which awards you for promoting iTalki. Whenever a student uses your referral link and buys a course/courses and the total amount spent reaches $20, you are awarded with at least $10 of commission.

Teaching english to foreign students online is a great alternative/remote job option for a lot of digital nomads. You require a TEFL/TESOL Certification to apply for some of these platforms, which maintains exclusivity from the crowd.

The average pay per hour for  new tutors is about $10 – $12 an hour . In the beginning, you will have to put in more hours to build your reputation. On the contrary, the pay isn’t that great.

Once you build a solid background  (with good reviews and recommendations), you can expect to  earn upto $30 to $35 an hour . This depends on your experience, accolades and the hours you put in.

Relying on one job platform might not work. You need to prefer short-term classes and shouldn’t stick with the same client for years. Negotiating with long-term clients could be a headache.

Pay at paper tutors varies depending on several factors. It can be as low as $1 per hour due to prep time, wait time, and exams, or it can go  as high as $15 per hour , including bonuses.

At the start , you will have to count the exams and wait times, resulting in the pay of  about $2-$3 per hour . However, this is not a temporary pay scale.

Completion of the probation period earns you about $5.50 per hour . This is for your downtime during tutoring sessions. This is a unique and good opportunity that the company pays for downtime.  Most online-based tutoring services lack such an element .

They  pay through direct bank deposits  because they insist on Canadian and United States-based residents.

These sites are mostly about helping students with their homework, assignments or research papers .

So you will most likely be doing other student’s homework for them. Is this legal? Yes. There is no law that prohibits students to seek help with their homework.

This is a great way to keep your knowledge fresh as well. Since you keep practicing different types of problems of your favorite subject.

This is why I recommend this method for post-graduate and final-year students. But anyone can join, so there are no restrictions here.

Every website has certain subjects/topics that you can “Become an Expert” on. An expert is a person who has extensive knowledge of a subject and can solve doubts of other people.

You don’t need to have a degree or be a professional, even students are accepted. Infact, this is a very good source of part-time income for students .

You just need to demonstrate your experience/knowledge on the subject you are applying for.

Most websites take a brief quiz before they accept you. This helps them verify that you are well-versed on the subject that you have chosen to answer questions on. And of course, you can select multiple subjects (varies from site to site)

Once you clear the test, you can log in to your dashboard and begin answering questions.

Note that some platforms have a live doubt-solving system, while others might employ a forum-like interface where there are lots of questions posted by the students, and you can choose to answer whatever you wish.

I have also come across  several websites  that pay you to answer students online.

You will get paid for every accepted answer , and you can cash out your earnings on a weekly or monthly basis.

How much can I earn from answering questions online?

This is the best part. You can easily earn around 500-1000$ a month if you work on these sites for a few hours daily. By working on these platforms for 2-3 hours every day , you can easily earn a substantial part-time income.

You will be paid by Paypal, while some sites may offer alternative payment methods as well.

Hi, This is really nice information. I also know one more website which offers a similar service. It’s MyDocent.com, I enrolled there as a tutor and they are paying well. The services are incredible and on-time payments make it hassle-free too. I will surely recommend this website.

Course hero is a waste platform. Though I qualified from best University, I applied for it and they still rejected my application for no reason, if it keeps happening like this, iam losing my hopes from earning in these kind of platforms.

These platforms are definitely tough to get into. Try MyDocent, or simply go with Cambly, where you basically need to talk to a student (to improve their English). https://digitalbazaari.com/cambly-site-review/ P.S.: You can even upload documents on Course Hero and get Amazon Gift Cards.

myDocent application requires one to fill a mandatory field called “state”. This rules out tutors from countries which do not use such a geographical entity called state, I presume. Some of us come from countries which have jurisdictions called ‘counties’. Someone give me the way forward.

I think you can simply fill the state that your county is in.

I am an experienced tutor without a degree. Yet these people on these sites require you to have some sort of degree.

Not all sites require you to have a degree. Some are fine with you just clearing their qualification tests.

9 Best Homework Help Websites

sites that pay for homework

When I was in high school, resources for extra homework help weren’t exactly abundant. If you were struggling with a Shakespeare sonnet, you could always run to the bookstore and pick up a CliffNotes guide. SparkNotes was also gaining in popularity. But these early homework help resources had limited catalogs and were focused primarily on literature. Today, I imagine students suffer from the opposite problem—having too many choices when it comes to homework help websites. When the options are seemingly endless, knowing what to look out for takes on an added importance. Below, I’ll go through a list of 9 stand-out homework help websites and briefly discuss what makes them worth a visit.

Homework Help Websites – The Basics

The best homework help websites do more than just spit out an answer to that tricky math problem. They actually help students learn the material. Common features of homework help websites are educational videos and lectures, practice tests and quizzes, study tools like flashcards, and Q&As with experts. Many sites offer features that allow students to ask specific questions and get real-time feedback. There are also a number of services that offer one-on-one tutoring. Some homework help sites are free, while others require a paid subscription.

1) Khan Academy

Khan Academy is an amazing resource for students of all ages. It’s free, and it really is an academy—it offers full courses in a wide array of subjects, from pre-K math to high school physics. The courses consist of readings, video lectures, practice exercises, and quizzes. The breadth of material is impressive. In math alone, I see course listings for Algebra 1 and 2, Geometry, Trigonometry, Precalculus, Statistics, Multivariable calculus—you get the idea. Khan Academy also offers a wide variety of AP courses, state-specific curricula, test-prep programs, and life skill courses, like personal finance.

It’s important to note that Khan Academy isn’t a one-on-one tutoring platform. But because of their extensive library of material, the search function is especially powerful. Try it out. I did a search for argumentative essay help, and found a comprehensive guide to writing argumentative essays that was a part of a larger writing course.

Chegg is a paid homework help service. Unlike Khan Academy, Chegg isn’t built around specific courses. Rather, it offers a variety of homework-support resources. Among those resources are plagiarism and grammar checkers, a proofreading service, and a “math solver”, which allows students to enter a problem and get back both a solution and a detailed step-by-step explanation of how the problem was solved. Perhaps the most powerful tool Chegg offers is its “Expert Q&A” feature. This service allows students to take a picture of their homework problem, upload it to the site, and get a detailed response in return. Chegg’s emphasis on process and explanation make it a valuable educational resource for students—not just a way to get a quick answer.

Best Homework Help Websites (Continued)

Quizlet is a well-known and worthwhile study resource. It offers a variety of courses, and it also has an expert-response feature. But Quizlet’s best feature, in my option, is the flashcards tool. Students can create their own digital decks of cards and practice them on Quizlet—just like an old fashion set of index cards. I had a ton of success using Quizlet’s flash card feature to help me memorize words for my foreign language requirement in college. It’s a simple but powerful tool. Although often maligned as a learning method, rote rehearsal and spaced repetition are effective ways to encode information . Quizlet’s flashcard feature is a great way to put those techniques into practice.

4) Socratic

is an AI-powered homework support app that allows students to type or take pictures of questions and receive solutions right away. Since it works with AI, it relies on the web’s vast stores of accumulated knowledge—you’re not interacting with a human tutor. Nonetheless, I found it to be an extremely helpful tool. I tried it out first using a specific math problem. In just a few seconds I was provided with the solution and an explainer with relevant formulas, plus a graphic to help visualize the underlying logic. There were also suggested links to additional resources. For example, when I asked Socratic to explain how the German genitive case works, it suggested a YouTube video and a number of articles from blogs and other language-learning sites.

Since Socratic doesn’t feature courses or one-on-one tutoring support, I wouldn’t lean on it if I were really struggling in a particular class. But as a tool to check your work, make sure you’re on the right track, and become aware of additional resources, it’s worth a download.

5) Photomath

Photomath is, as you might have guessed, a site for math homework help. Like other homework help websites, Photomath allows students to take a picture of a problem and receive an instant, step-by-step solution. Included along with the solution is an explanation of relevant concepts and formulas, plus videos covering mathematical concepts. Photomath does offer a few basic courses, too. So if in addition to homework-specific help you want to brush up on the basics, they’ve got you covered in arithmetic, algebra, and calculus crash courses.

6) Studypool

Studypool is a paid homework support service that provides solutions to specific questions. Studypool offers support in all the major subjects, with a particular emphasis on science. Students can ask questions on everything from anatomy to physics. Like other services, students upload their exact questions or problems directly to the site. But Studypool’s payment model is a bit different: instead of paying for tutoring time or a monthly subscription, students pay for solutions to each question they submit. When a student submits a question, tutors submit bids to answer them. The student then can select which tutor/price option works best. After students select the price and tutor they want, they’re connected with the tutor and given the solution and explanation via messenger.

The draw of Studypool is that it gives students access to real (i.e., human) tutors who are experts in their field. The downside is that pricing isn’t transparent, and students pay per question.

7) College Info Geek

College Info Geek is the study-support website that I wish I knew about when I was in high school and college (they didn’t pay me to write that, I swear). The site focuses not on specific courses or questions, but on how to become a more effective learner. Here it’s all about “learning how to learn”—study tips, memorization and note-taking techniques, and much more. The articles are well-researched, clearly-communicated, practical, and comprehensive. For example, the article on how to improve your memory includes a breakdown of the different types of memory processes, memorization techniques, and even a discussion of how nutrition affects memory. College Info Geek is a great resource for everyone, not just high school and college students.

8) SparkNotes

Yes, Sparknotes made the list! The site offers lessons in a whole bunch of subjects—biology, chemistry, computer science, history, philosophy, math—but its specialty is literature. SparkNotes provides summaries and analyses of novels, short stories, poetry, and non-fiction, from The Canterbury Tales to Toni Morrison, Saul Bellow, and Junot Diaz. SparkNotes breaks down books into sub-sections and provides synopses and analyses for each section. There are also separate pages for character breakdowns, discussions of themes and motifs, and explanations of important quotes. I’d caution against using SparkNotes if you’re trying to “hack” a novel or poem and get simple answers about what it “means.” But as a way to supplement your own understanding and interpretation, it’s a great resource. Shmoop is also worth checking out for extra support in literature, poetry, mythology, and the history of literary movements.

9) Grammarly

I’m not sure if Grammarly is an obvious or unexpected choice to round out the list. Either way, it deserves a mention here. Grammarly is a writing tool. It checks and suggests corrections for incorrectly spelled words and misused punctuation. But Grammarly also scans and corrects for things like clarity and vocab usage. It flags sentences that are vague, or overly wordy, and alerts you if you’re using that flashy vocab word incorrectly. It even gives suggestions if it thinks your writing is a bit bland. I don’t see Grammarly as a crutch, but rather as a tool. It can help you master those pesky recurring grammar and usage issues. Always mix up effect and affect? Grammarly will continue to course correct until you’ve got it down yourself.

Homework Help Websites – Final Thoughts

None of the above homework help websites should be seen as a panacea. Each has benefits and drawbacks, strengths and weak points. The list is far from exhaustive. And the sites don’t have to be used in isolation. Try a few out, mix and match. College Info Geek is an excellent supplement to any study regimen. Socratic can be used as a tool to check answers for math homework, and at the same time you can use Grammarly to describe your problem to a tutor on Chegg. At their best, these sites are more than quick fixes to stubborn homework problems—they’re aids to genuine learning.

  • Collaboration capabilities: It’s helpful to work with a platform that allows you to collaborate with other students and teams via tools such as shared documents, discussion forums, and progress trackers

Here's who could be responsible for paying for the Baltimore bridge disaster

  • The Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore collapsed after a container ship collided with it.
  • Several entities could be on the hook to foot the bill in the aftermath of the disaster.
  • The maritime insurance industry will likely be saddled with the highest costs.

Insider Today

The Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore collapsed on Tuesday after a large container ship ran into it, leading to six presumed deaths and millions of dollars in possible damage.

It's still too early to estimate the total economic impact of the disaster, but between the cost of rebuilding the decades-old bridge, compensating the victims' families , and paying out damages for disruptions to the supply chain, the eventual cost of the disaster is expected to be significant.

Who will pay to rebuild the bridge?

President Joe Biden said on Tuesday the federal government should be responsible for paying to reconstruct the damaged Francis Scott Key Bridge.

"It is my intention that the federal government will pay for the entire cost of reconstructing that bridge, and I expect Congress to support my effort," Biden said.

The bridge was built in the 1970s for about $60 million, but the cost of rebuilding it could be 10 times its original price tag, an engineering expert told Sky News.

Baltimore is among the busiest ports in the nation , with more than a million shipping containers passing through each year. The collapse — which closed the port to all maritime and most road traffic until further notice — is already beginning to wreak havoc on the supply chain.

The cost of building the bridge back fast enough to offset diversions as much as possible could saddle the government with a more than $600 million bill, David MacKenzie, the chair of the engineering and architecture consultancy COWIfonden, told Sky News.

Who will pay for damages to the ship and its cargo?

The container ship, the Dali , is owned by a Singapore-based firm. The ship's charterer, Maersk, confirmed to Business Insider that vessel company Synergy Group operates the ship.

However, the companies with cargo aboard the Dali could ultimately be responsible for some of the ship's damages and cargo costs, according to Ryan Petersen , the CEO of the supply-chain-logistics company Flexport, which had two containers on the ship.

Related stories

The Dali was carrying 330 containers that must now be rerouted, Petersen said in an X thread.

An ancient maritime law known as " general average " dictates that companies with even a single container aboard a ship split certain damages pro rata based on the number of containers they had on board, ensuring all the stakeholders benefiting from the voyage are splitting the risk, Petersen said.

General average situations can occur when a ship is stranded or when cargo is damaged or thrown overboard to save the vessel, according to Flexport . The concept helps ensure that all parties who have a vested interest in the vessel share the cost and concern of protecting it.

It's too soon to know whether damages incurred to free the Dali in the coming days will qualify as a case of general average.

Who will pay for everything else?

The majority of the financial fallout is likely to lay primarily with the insurance industry, according to media reports.

Industry experts told the Financial Times that insurers could pay out losses for bridge damage, port disruption, and any loss of life.

The collapse could drive "one of the largest claims ever to hit the marine (re)insurance market," John Miklus, the president of the American Institute of Marine Underwriters, told Insurance Business.

He told the outlet that the loss of revenue from tolls while the bridge is being rebuilt will be expensive, as will any liability claims from deaths or injuries.

The Dali is covered by the Britannia Steam Ship Insurance Association Ltd., known as Britannia P&I Club, according to S&P Global Market Intelligence.

In a statement to Business Insider, Britannia said it was "working closely with the ship manager and relevant authorities to establish the facts and to help ensure that this situation is dealt with quickly and professionally."

Britannia is one of 12 mutual insurers included in the International Group of P&I Clubs, which maintains more than $3 billion of reinsurance cover, sources familiar with the matter told Insurance Business.

Britannia itself is liable for the first $10 million in damages, both FT and Insurance Business reported. Whatever remains is dealt with by the wider mutual insurance group and Lloyd's of London, a reinsurance market in the UK, the FT reported.

Update: March 28, 2024 — This story has been updated to include additional information about general average and clarify that it is too soon to know whether general average will apply in the case of the Dali.

Trump Gets Bond Deal to Ward Off $454 Million Judgment, for Now

The guarantee means that New York’s attorney general will not be able to pursue Donald Trump’s assets and bank accounts until Mr. Trump’s appeals are settled.

  • Share full article

Donald Trump speaks in a courtroom hallway, wearing a navy suit and red tie.

By Ben Protess

Former President Donald J. Trump averted a financial disaster on Monday, reaching a deal that will spare him from paying a $454 million judgment in his civil fraud case while he appeals the penalty.

The lifeline came in the form of a bond that will prevent New York’s attorney general, who brought the lawsuit that led to the judgment, from collecting the $454 million until Mr. Trump’s appeal is resolved. The attorney general, Letitia James, accused Mr. Trump of fraudulently inflating his net worth by as much as $2 billion, and a judge ruled in her favor.

Mr. Trump secured the bond after an appeals court last week granted his request to lower the bond amount, setting it at $175 million and staving off a financial crisis for Mr. Trump. He otherwise would have had to post a bond for the full $454 million, which his lawyers declared a “practical impossibility.” Had he failed to do so, Ms. James could have frozen his bank accounts.

The clock had been ticking. When the appeals court ruled last week, it gave him 10 days to line up the bond, making Thursday the deadline.

The $175 million bond came from Knight Specialty Insurance Company, a California company that handles such deals. In providing the bond, which is a legal document, not an actual transfer of money, the firm essentially promised New York’s court system that it would cover a portion of the $454 million judgment against Mr. Trump if he loses his appeal and fails to pay.

Many details of the deal are private, but the former president most likely had to pay the company a fee and pledge cash and other liquid investments as collateral.

It was the collateral that prevented Mr. Trump from securing a bond for the full $454 million. Although Mr. Trump measures his net worth in the billions, much of that is drawn from the value of real estate, which bond companies typically don’t accept as collateral. While Mr. Trump had more than $350 million in cash and other liquid investments as of early this year, a New York Times analysis found, that was short of what he needed to secure the bigger bond.

His lawyers, after being spurned by more than 30 bond companies, recently cited “insurmountable difficulties” in obtaining the full bond.

Even to secure the $175 million bond, Mr. Trump probably had to dig deep into his reserves.

The terms may be costly, but Mr. Trump had little choice. Absent a bond, Ms. James could have moved to collect at any moment, freezing bank accounts and potentially starting the long, complicated process of seizing some of his marquee New York properties. She has suggested she would pursue Mr. Trump’s office tower in Lower Manhattan, at 40 Wall Street, a short walk from her office.

A spokeswoman for Ms. James, a Democrat, declined to comment.

Ms. James filed the lawsuit against Mr. Trump and his family business in 2022, accusing the former president of manipulating the value of properties to obtain favorable loan terms from banks.

The judge overseeing the case — there was no jury — ruled in Ms. James’s favor and came down hard. The judge, Arthur F. Engoron, imposed a $355 million penalty, which climbed to $454 million with interest added.

In a post on Truth Social on Tuesday morning , Mr. Trump vented angrily. “It’s supposed to be the other way around — you appeal before you pay,” he wrote.

Alina Habba, a lawyer for Mr. Trump, said in a statement that the former president “looks forward to vindicating his rights on appeal and overturning this unjust verdict.”

Mr. Trump had recently posted a separate $91.6 million bond in a defamation case brought by the writer E. Jean Carroll. The collateral he pledged to the bond company in that case was off limits for the civil fraud bond. Few people, even wealthy ones like Mr. Trump, need to come up with bonds this big, let alone two at once, and it was unclear whether he would be able to secure both before time ran out.

The bond, for now, clears one major liability from Mr. Trump’s legal docket, but many more problems remain. Mr. Trump, once again the presumptive Republican nominee for president, faces four criminal indictments in four different cities, the first of which is set to go to trial in two weeks in Manhattan.

In that case, Mr. Trump is accused of covering up a sex scandal during and after the 2016 presidential campaign.

Sean Gamble

Sean Gamble, CEO of major theater chain Cinemark , earned $8.8 million in overall pay in 2023, the company said in a securities filing on Tuesday.

His compensation package came as Cinemark, the third-largest theater circuit in the U.S. behind AMC Theatres and Regal Entertainment Group, continued to recover at the box office coming out of the pandemic.

In 2023, Gamble received a base salary of $900,000, just up from a base salary of $825,000 in 2022 and $687,857 in 2021.

Gamble in 2023 once again received no bonus, as happened in the previous two years. But Gamble did nab $5.4 million in stock awards, compared to $3.6 million in stock awards received in 2022, and $1.5 million in 2021.

And he received $2.44 million in a non-equity incentive plan last year, up from $1.42 million from a non-equity incentive plan in 2022 and $963,000 received in the same category a year earlier.

The SEC filing also revealed that Melissa Thomas, who became Cinemark CFO in October 2021, received overall pay of $2.7 million in 2023, which compares to a $2.4 million overall compensation package in 2022.

Should you pay your mortgage off early or keep the tax deduction.

Home tax deduction

I recently received a question after one of my workshops from a woman who was wondering if she made a mistake paying her mortgage off early because she no longer has the mortgage interest deduction. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve gotten different versions of that same question (including after a later workshop session that same day). Here are several reasons why this is a classic case of letting the tax tail wag the dog:

1. The interest decreases as a percentage of your mortgage payment. When you first take out a mortgage, most of your payments are applied towards interest, so most of what you pay is tax deductible. However, the interest portion steadily declines so that by the time your mortgage is almost paid off, your payments are mostly non-deductible principal anyway.

2. The mortgage interest deduction may not benefit you as much as you think. In fact, it may not benefit you at all. As an itemized deduction, it only helps you to the degree that your itemized deductions exceed your standard deduction since you only get whichever one is higher. Considering that the standard deduction is now $14,600 per person (or $29,200 for a married couple), AND the income and property tax deduction is limited to $10k per year, many people will fail to qualify for itemized deductions going forward, even if you have many years to go on your mortgage.

Even if you do itemize, your taxable income is only reduced by the difference between the two. If your itemized deductions are $100 more than the standard deduction, that mortgage interest is only reducing your taxable income by $100.

3. The cost of the interest is always more than the tax savings. Let’s assume that you have $15,000 in mortgage interest (not just payments) and all of that exceeds your standard deduction. Even if you’re in the top 37% tax bracket, you’d still be saving only $5,550 in federal income taxes. Does it really make sense to pay $15,000 to save $5,550?

The top 10 richest people in the world april 2024, the walking dead the ones who live season finale review super easy barely an inconvenience.

That all being said, there are some good reasons NOT to pay down your mortgage early. They just (mostly) have nothing to do with taxes. All of the following should be considered higher priorities:

Reasons NOT to pay down your mortgage early

1. You don’t have adequate emergency savings. An emergency fund can help you make those mortgage payments even when you’re in between jobs. Don’t rely on a home equity line of credit for that. Your line of credit might get canceled, especially when the economy is weak or you’re unemployed, which is exactly when you most need it.

2. You’re not contributing enough to get the full match in your employer’s retirement plan. It’s hard to beat a guaranteed 50% or 100% return on your money.

3. You have higher interest debt. It makes a lot more sense to pay down a credit card with a 10% interest rate than a 4% mortgage. If the rates are close, don’t forget to factor in the tax deduction to reflect the true cost of the mortgage. (Student loan interest is also deductible up to $2,500 per year.)

4. You’re eligible for HSA contributions and haven’t maxed it out. Contributing to an HSA is the most tax-advantageous thing you can do since the money goes in pre-tax and then can be used tax-free for health care expenses. If you’re in the 24% tax bracket, you can save 24% on your HSA contributions and earnings that you use for health care expenses. The only catch is that you must have an HSA-eligible health insurance plan to contribute (although you can still spend the funds if you switch to a lower deductible plan in the future).

5. You can earn more by investing your extra money instead. To be on the safe side, I like to assume you’ll average about a 3% return if you’re very conservative (20-40% in stocks), 4% if you’re moderately conservative (40-60% in stocks), 5% if you’re moderately aggressive (60-80% in stocks), and 6% if you’re very aggressive (80-100% in stocks). If your mortgage interest rate is less than that, you’re probably better off investing your extra savings. If you’re investing in a tax-sheltered account like a 401(K) or IRA, the tax benefits cancel out the mortgage interest deduction.

Depending on your situation, paying off your mortgage early may be a good idea. In other cases, it doesn’t make as much sense. But it’s seldom because of the tax deduction.
