Phantom Troupe: The Guide of Hunter x Hunter

The Phantom Troupe is a world famous gang of thieves in the Hunter x Hunter series. Get to know more of this notorious gang and its members below!

What is Phantom Troupe (Gen'ei Ryodan)?

Hunter x Hunter - Phantom Troupe

The Phantom Troupe has a total of thirteen members who are all very skilled Nen users. The leader (Chrollo Lucilfer) and founding members (Feitan, Machi, Uvogin, Nobunaga, Franklin and Pakunoda) of the troupe all came from Meteor City, a junkyard city which is inhabited by outcasts who do not have any official records.

Each member has a numbered tattoo of a spider on their body which resembles the symbol of the Phantom Troupe. In the spider tattoos, there are numbers ranging from 1 to 13; it is still unknown how the members have been assigned with their numbers and only a few of them have revealed their tattoos.

They are known as the main antagonists during the Yorknew City arc as well as the secondary antagonists in the overall series of Hunter x Hunter .

Chrollo Lucilfer

Hunter x Hunter - Phantom Troupe Chrollo Lucilfer

Chrollo is the leader of Phantom Troupe who originated from Meteor City. He formed the troupe along with six other residents in the city.

He is a Specialist type. His ability ‘Skill Hunter’ allows him to steal the abilities of other people and to use them as his own by using a conjured book known as ‘Bandit’s Secret’. The person who got their ability stolen would then no longer be able to use that ability.

Hunter x Hunter - Phantom Troupe Feitan

Feitan is one of the founding members of the troupe. He serves as the group’s interrogator and is shown to be proficient when it comes to torturing enemies.

He is a Transmutation type. Feitan’s ability ‘Rising Sun’ allows him to transmute his aura into scorching heat which burns his enemy to death.

Hunter x Hunter - Phantom Troupe Franklin

He is an Emission type and is the only known Emitter in the troupe. His ability ‘Double Machine Gun’ allows both of his hands to become shotguns.

Hunter x Hunter - Phantom Troupe Bonolenov

Bonolenov is a member who is covered in bandages. He is also a member of the Gyudondond tribe.

He is a Conjuration type. His ability allows him to conjure warrior gear and a giant sphere similar to the planet Jupiter.

Hunter x Hunter - Phantom Troupe Kortopi

Very little is known regarding Kortopi and how he was able to join the Phantom Troupe and when.

He is a Conjurer type. He has an ability that allows him to conjure a replica of the object which he touches with his left hand.

Hunter x Hunter - Phantom Troupe Machi

Machi is one of the founding members of the troupe and is considered as the physically strongest female member in the troupe.

She is a Transmuter type. She has the ability to create threads which could be lengthened without any limit. Machi uses her threads to sew open wounds or to capture and immobilize her enemies.

Hunter x Hunter - Phantom Troupe Pakunoda

Pakunoda is the former #9 member and one of the founding members of the troupe.

She is a Specialist type. Her ability allows her to read other people’s thoughts provided that she has physical contact with them.

Hunter x Hunter - Phantom Troupe Phinks

Phinks is also from Meteor City. He is second to Uvogin when it comes to the physical strength.

He is an Enhancement type. His ability ‘Ripper Cyclotron’ allows him to increase the strength of his punches.

Hunter x Hunter - Phantom Troupe Shalnark

Shalnark is troupe member #6. He is a licensed Hunter and is fond of electronics. He is also from Meteor City.

He is a Manipulation type. His ability ‘Black Voice’ allows him to control his opponents through his phone by placing an antenna on them.

Hunter x Hunter - Phantom Troupe Shizuku

Shizuku is the troupe member #8. She is also from Meteor City.

She is a Conjurer type. She has the ability to conjure a vacuum cleaner named Blinky which sucks in everything except for living things or objects made of Nen.

Hunter x Hunter - Phantom Troupe Uvogin

Uvogin is one of the founding members of the troupe and is the former Phantom Troupe member #11. He is also considered as the strongest fighter in the troupe in terms of physical strength.

He is an Enhancement type. His ability ‘Big Bang Impact’ allows him to enhance his punch, enough to cause an explosion.

Hunter x Hunter - Phantom Troupe Nobunaga

Nobunaga is one of the founding members of the troupe and is the Phantom Troupe member #1.

He is an Enhancer type. Little is known about his abilities and he is the only Phantom Troupe member who has not yet showed his Hatsu.

Hunter x Hunter - Phantom Troupe Hisoka

Hisoka is the former troupe member #4. However, it was revealed that he was a fake member and that he had used his Nen ability to imitate the Phantom Troupe’s spider tattoo.

He is a Transmutation type. His ‘Bungee Gum’ ability, which he named after his favorite gum when he was a kid, allows him to alter the consistency of his aura into a sticky substance which he uses on his offensive and defensive attacks. His ‘Texture Surprise’ allows him to apply his aura on a thin surface and change its appearance.

Hunter x Hunter - Phantom Troupe Kalluto

Kalluto is the youngest in the Zoldyck family. He joins Phantom Troupe as the replacement of Hisoka and hopes to find Killua.

He is a Manipulation type. He mainly manipulates paper for his offensive and defensive attacks.

・Membership

Hunter x Hunter - Phantom Troupe

People who wish to join the troupe would only be accepted if they could kill a current member. If a current member were to leave the group or die, the leader would be responsible for looking for a replacement of that member.

・Coin Tossing

Hunter x Hunter - Phantom Troupe Coin Toss

It is prohibited to have serious fights among the troupe members. In an event where they have quarrels, they use the Coin Toss method to settle their differences. The coin is custom-made, the heads side has a design of the shape of the troupe’s signature twelve-legged spider symbol, while the tails side has a spider’s web design.

Hunter x Hunter: Every Member Of The Phantom Troupe, Ranked By Strength

The Phantom Troupe has some mind-bogglingly strong members but even among the strong, there are those who are stronger.

While the Hunter Association in the world of Hunter X Hunter may provide its Hunters with unlimited opportunities, some Nen users still turn to crime, like the Phantom Troupe. And, they're no joke, considering their members — called Spiders — have Class-A Bounties on their heads. As a result, their activities aren't just infamous across the world, but they have a fearsome reputation as well.

RELATED: The Best Isekai Manga That Do Not Have An Anime

In fact, the Phantom Troupe remains a fan favorite amongst Hunter x Hunter fans primarily because its members are so well designed and well-written . Well, that and the fact that Kurapika, a main cast member, made it their life goal to hunt the Phantom Troupe down. Which, thinking back, makes it extra odd that Gon hangs out with (and so often forgives) the current Troupe member Hisoka. However, some members of the Phantom Troupe just dominate the others in terms of power level.

Updated April 8th, 2023 by Jacob Buchalter: With the news of Hunter x Hunter's tragic cancellation , fans are looking just about anywhere for more HxH content. While it's understandable to cancel the story due to mangaka Yoshihiro Togashi's health problems (which is why the series has been on and off of hiatus in recent years), it's a shame that they couldn't work out a way to have Togashi keep writing and someone else illustrate the adventurers of characters like Gon, Killua, Kurapika, and more recently even Leorio. The Succession War arc and eventual Dark Continent arc were well underway and fans finally got a glimpse into the history of the Phantom Troupe and where it all begin. So, to reminisce on these fantastic characters, let's go through the Phantom Troupe once again and see how they stack up compared to each other.

Disclaimer: There will be manga spoilers for all characters mentioned

Starting things off with one of the more mysterious Phantom Troupe members, Kortopi was the twelfth person, or "Spider", to join the group. He is not at all shy about admitting he’s the weakest member in terms of physical strength. But, this is Hunter X Hunter, a world where raw physical power doesn’t mean anything in the face of well-honed Nen abilities.

Sadly, Kortopi’s Hatsu technique, Gallery Fake, is also not very suited for combat, as it basically boils down to him being able to create perfect copies of non-living objects with his Conjuration-type Nen energy. Or, at least, that's what anime-only viewers think. In actuality, the Hunter x Hunter manga has already shown the potential of this Hatsu as Chrollo used it in combination with a few other abilities in his deathmatch against Hisoka in Heaven's Arena. Even then, it was only worthwhile due to Chrollo being able to use it in combination with other Nen abilities, and with how quickly Kortopi was slain by Hisoka after the match, it's clear he never figured out how to fight with Gallery Fake himself.

14 Pakunoda

Like Kortopi, Pakunoda is a very useful member of the Phantom Troupe, but her Nen techniques aren’t exactly suited for combat. All of her abilities are in the "Specialist" category, and they're all centered around the concept of memories and mind-reading. Using her Nen ability, known as Psychometry, Pakunoda could read a person’s memories, overwrite them, and even implant memories into others using an ability called Memory Bomb. This was a technique in which she conjures “bullets” made of Nen that hold the memories in question before firing said bullet into her desired recipient, doing no physical damage but implanting the memories into their mind.

All of these powers are obscenely useful for an organization so centralized on secrecy and thievery like the Phantom Troupe, but they aren’t exactly “combat-type” powers. These rankings aren't going to follow the canon 'strength' rankings of the Troupe, but in this case, it was right on the money putting Pakunoda in the eleventh slot.

13 Franklin Bordeau

People are right to associate the hulking Franklin Bordeau with the concept of sheer power. In terms of physical strength, Franklin ranks fourth amongst the Troupe's members. However, anyone who assumed that this meant Franklin was a close-combat fighter is entirely wrong. Instead, Franklin is the only Emitter-type Nen user in the Troupe, funnily enough. And, while he's gigantic now, the flashback to the Troupe's origins in the manga shows that he was a relatively average-sized kid, so this change in stature only really begins after the Troupe went from a video-dubbing group of kids to a full criminal organization.

Franklin himself possesses already remarkable strength and stamina, paired with equally admirable speed and reflexes. As an Emitter, Franklin can utilize his aura to release it in various forms. He prefers to release Nen-bullets through the barrels in his fingers, the tips of which he cut off himself. Normally, Emitters would just expel the Nen bullets from the tips of their fingers with no issue, but Franklin went all the way with them because he felt it would work better, and oddly enough it did, as self-imposed limitations absolutely make Nen abilities more powerful.

12 Kalluto Zoldyck

Being one of the esteemed children of the Zoldyck family (the same family as Killua) means that Kalluto is already superhuman in many ways, even before using Nen. However, Kalluto himself admits that he's the weakest member of the Troupe, at least to the group of members currently around him. Interestingly, this doesn't mean Kalluto underestimates his strength, rather its just that the Phantom Troupe is that strong on average.

As someone who has been trained as an assassin all his life at the Zoldyck estate , Kalluto already possesses advanced speed, agility, various elemental resistances, and weapons specialization. Kalluto can create afterimages of himself with Rhythm Echo, an advanced assassination technique that doesn't even use Nen.

Though, in terms of Nen, Kalluto is a Manipulator, a Nene specialization perfect for espionage and assassinations. His Surveillance Paper Dolls ability allow him to essentially put trackers on people with a paper doll in their likeness that lets him hear everything near that person. The sheer fact that none of the Phantom Troupe even noticed this Nen ability was being used is proof of Kalluto's expertise. But that's not all, as these paper techniques are actually quite useful in combat, so much so that Kalluto uses his Dance of the Serpent's Bite Nen ability playfully while going up against a fearsome Chimera Ant (though not at all comparable to someone like Meruem ), making sure to take his time and tear the Ant apart piece-by-piece with mere scraps of paper.

11 Nobunaga Hazama

Having the appearance of a traditional samurai, Nobunaga Hazama and his trusty katana already imply some degree of battle finesse. In terms of sheer strength, he ranks ninth among the group, which makes sense given that Gon beat him in an arm-wrestling match. However, rather than raw brute force, Nobunaga has shown that he specializes in dexterity and finesse, as all of his kills with his blade have had basically zero wasted movement.

RELATED: The Best Anime From The 90s

At his core, Nobunaga is a swordsman, capable of using his enhanced physical traits, preternatural perception, and observation techniques to maintain control in combat. As an Iaido specialist, Nobunaga can quickly draw his blade, make a lethal strike, and place it back on its scabbard within a micro-second. Befitting his combat specialty is his Nen nature as an Enhancer, boasting a powerful aura he could potentially use to enhance his physical abilities. In the later manga arc, primarily the Succession War arc, Nobunaga has been able to show off even more of his battle prowess and general thought process. But, the most absurd part is, he still hasn't revealed his actual 'Nen Ability'. The whole routine of using En to create a 'sphere of influence' where Nobunaga expertly cuts whoever steps inside in an instant is just a battle technique, it's not his Nen Ability. While this was amazing while the series was still going, now that it's been canceled it's absolutely tragic that fans never got to see what Nobunaga was truly capable of.

10 Shizuku Murasaki

The Specialist category of Nen abilities always seems to involve the weirdest powers, so it’s obvious why so many people instantly assumed that the Spider with the 8th tattoo, Shizuku Murasaki, was a Specialist/ After all, she's running around using a magical vacuum cleaner AKA Blinky, that seemingly has infinite capacity. But, in truth, Shizuku is a Conjurer. However, unlike Kortopi, Shizuku is adept at close combat (or at least capable) and her Conjuration-type Hatsu is versatile enough that it has applications both in and out of combat.

She’s got a great battle sense, seems to have admirable speed compared to the other Phantom Troupe members, and her Blinky Ability allows her to tackle problems in some truly unique ways.

9 Machi Komacine

Machi Komacine has the appearance of a feudal Japanese kunoichi, which sort of matches Nobunaga's whole vibe. And, like Nobunaga, her appearance makes sense, given her absurd speed and dexterity. When combined with her enhanced strength and endurance, Machi is a terrifying combatant. She also possesses an incredible degree of muscle control, displaying resistance from otherwise fatal injuries. In terms of strength, she is ranked sixth among the Troupe's members. As an individual Machi plays the part of a 'cold but caring' criminal all too perfectly, so much so that she gives people like Hisoka a bit too much slack.

However, perhaps more interesting than anything else is Machi's Nen Ability. As a Transmuter , she "transmutes" her Nen energy into threads, and she specializes in using these Nen threads to do a variety of things. With Nen Stitches, Machi demonstrated the ability to not just heal injuries but even reattach severed limbs with ease. But, she's not just a healer, as Machi has stated that the strength of these strings is directly proportional to their length. So, with enough power behind a short thread less than a meter long, Machi could likely cut through most anything. Taking that into consideration, suddenly these aren't just threads anymore, and Machi is looking a lot more fearsome as a fighter.

8 Bonolenov Ndongo

Despite his truly 'odd' appearance and people assuming he really was just a side character , Bonolenov Ndongo still ranks eighth among the ranks of the Troupe. Bonolenov is famous not just for his enhanced strength but also for his incredible speed and reflexes. Thanks to his agility, stamina, and showmanship, Bonolenov not only dashes into combat, he does so gracefully as well, which makes sense, given that he comes from the fictional tribe of 'Gyudondond', a group of people who are world-renowned for the dance-like combat style using their self-made holes in their bodies.

In terms of Nen, Bonolenov proved strong enough to use more than two Nen types. However, he does incorporate this in combat - often using his man-made holes to create unique sounds via Battle Cantabile to conjure Nen weapons, armor, and more. He's able to use Battle Cantabile: Prologue to conjure up both a spear and battle garb and Battle Cantabile: Jupiter literally has him conjuring up a miniature version of Jupiter to crash down on his enemies. Additionally, in the Succession War arc, Bonolenov also hinted at an ability called Battle Cantabile: Metamorphosen, which apparently lets Bonolev transform his appearance in a variety of ways, though readers never got the chance to see this one in action.

Shalnark was a character that, at a glance, seems like he wouldn't 'vibe' with the rest of the Phantom Troupe. He was cheerful, responsible, and just very bubbly in general. But, as the show goes on, it becomes more and more clear that this jovial personality is just a facade for his darker tendencies. At his core, Shalnark was still a relatively emotionless murderer who thinks of the victims of his Manipulation-type Nen as mere 'puppets that are meant to be broken'.

In terms of ability, Shalnark was a Manipulator-type Hatsu user and one that used Nen needles implanted in his victim's neck to control them in a first-person view like video game characters through his phone. It was a fantastic technique in general, and Chrollo showed it off even more in his death match against Hisoka. In fact, Shalnark could even use this ability on himself, essentially triggering an 'Auto-Pilot' mode that was given a task and would not end until Shalnark's body had completed said task. Of course, this ability had some pretty nasty recoil, and it's a shame that Hisoka caught Shalnark in the brief period of time when Chrollo still had his ability, as it meant he had no way of fighting back against this killer clown.

6 Phinks Magcub

Tracksuit-touting Phinks Magcub looks like the typical anime delinquent, and he sort of is one at first, but as more events transpire in front of him, Phinks starts to think a bit more. Physically, Phinks is second only to Uvogin - meaning he's currently the physically strongest in the Troupe after Uvogin's demise. Though, funnily enough, he never even had a chance to show off this physical ability in the Succession War arc, as he mostly served as a conversational character to push the plot forward.

Given his status, it's expected for Phinks to possess incredible strength, durability, and stamina. He pairs this with astonishing speed and hand-to-hand prowess, capable of breaking people's necks in a flash. Moreover, his Nen nature as an Enhancer allows him to further augment his physical abilities. But, his real bread-and-butter comes from his Hatsu ability that's mind-blowingly strong simply because it's so simple. The ability is called Ripper Cyclotron, and it's an ability where every time Phinks 'winds' his arm in a clockwise direction, the Nen Aura in his fist increases, which means the next punch deals more damage. It's unclear if every new rotation multiples the current Nen Aura by a specific amount or if its exponential, but 15 rotations were enough to blow apart a Chimera Ant , and Phinks himself stated that likely half of those rotations would have still done the job.

5 Feitan Portor

Enigmatic and black-clad Feitan Portor serves as Number 2 amongst the Troupe and even served as their 'leader' during Chrollo's absence. However, being the Troupe's de facto leader is a testament to his sheer combat prowess, as the group is constantly fighting to prove themselves capable of taking this 'leader' mantle. While he's the fifth among the Troupe in terms of physical power, Feitan compensates for this with his lightning-fast speed. In fact, his speed, as seen so far, is one of the fastest of any character in the franchise, save for Killua , which makes Feitan all the more fearsome, given that the other speedsters fans have seen have moved at incomprehensibly fast speeds.

In terms of Nen, Feitan's Hatsu might not be what people expect based on his fighting style and general appearance. The common-sense guess would be that it increases his speed, but that's actually not it at all. Feitan is a Transmuter, capable of transforming Nen's natural properties into another type of energy. When enraged, Feitan can hide in a Conjuration-type Nen suit of armor called the Pain Packer that protects him from his true Emitter-type ability, Rising Sun.

When Rising Sun activates, it manifests a massive ball of blazing hot Nen aura in the area, similar to a sun. The only catch is, the actual 'heat' from this ability is directly proportional to the amount of damage Feitan has recently suffered. So, Feitan utilizes this by trying to defeat his opponent with his Umbrella Sword , and when enough damage has been done to him or he gets irritated enough, he switches to the Rising Sun approach. Either way, the upward potential of this ability and the scale of the damage it can deal is already scary, but the fact that Feitan only relies on it when he has to is what truly makes this Troupe member terrifying.

This grizzly and bulky fellow is the literal strongest member of the Troupe in terms of raw physical strength, boasting an impenetrable fighting spirit. While he doesn't possess any prowess in martial arts, Uvogin pairs his immense strength with enhanced speed and agility to take down foes with swings and punches. Likewise, he possesses remarkable durability, stamina, and endurance to last in prolonged battles.

For the most part, Nen users all have a 'type-specialty' that they're all naturally talented at . Killlua's specialty is in Transmutation so he uses that type of Nen most often. As a result of this specialty, Nen users develop techniques based around it, with only a few branching out to the next type on the Nen Hexagon, and even fewer (and more foolish) trying to use abilities directly across the Hexagon from their specialty.

For example, a Conjuration specialist will typically use Manipulation or Transmutation-type techniques if they were to use anything outside of Conjuration but would be foolish to invest much time or effort into Emission, as that is their weakest typing. But, Uvogin was the ultimate Enhancer and he only ever used Enhancer abilities, which made all of his Enhancement techniques that much stronger. Honestly, it was just bad luck (or too much pride) that Uvogin happened to go against Kurapika , a person who literally designed their entire technique around defeating the Phantom Troupe. There aren't many other people in Hunter X Hunter that Uvogin would lose to.

3 Illumi Zoldyck

As a member of the Zoldyck Family, Illumi is trained in the art of assassination just like all his other siblings (excluding Alluka). Outside his Nen, Illumi not only boasts incredible physical strength and speed but he also has remarkable pain tolerance. Paired with his intelligence and purely sinister aura, Illumi can form strategies on the fly and even manipulate people to do his bidding. But, all this puts him on par or slightly ahead of his Zoldyck peers. What really sets Illumi apart is his absurdly sinister Nen, his calculatingly cold approach to everything, and his staggering intellect.

RELATED: The Most Iconic Anime Characters With Split Personality

Illumi's incredible control over Nen fits his Manipulation specialization. With his expertise in needles, Illumi can do all sorts of things. He can use Body Alteration to radically change the appearance of himself or others, but only Illumi is likely able to withstand the pain of this ability. Not only that, but he can also infuse commands into his needles and implant them into his target's brain to subconsciously manipulate them, as he did with Killua. And lastly, he can also use these command-infused Nen Needles to completely control anyone he sticks them in, turning them into, what Illumi calls 'Needle People'.

2 Chrollo Lucilfer

Phantom Troupe founder Chrollo Lucilfer is arguably the deadliest of all the Troupe's members, with his remarkable skillset also earning the praise of Hisoka himself. While his sheer physical power measures only seventh in the group, Chrollo makes up for his lack of robust strength with remarkable combat skills, masterful adaptability, and enhanced speed, combined with a genius-level intellect and preternatural perception.

Befitting his intelligence is his Specialist status. With his Nen, he can conjure his Specialist-type Bandit's Secret book to trigger his true ability, Skill Hunter. With this, Chrollo has to follow certain conditions to steal various abilities from other Nen users . It's a highly-technical Hatsu skill, but thanks to Chrollo's genius, it's one of the most fearsome in the series. And, as time has progressed, he's even innovated upon this ability even further with the Double Face ability, which essentially acts as a bookmark that lets Chrollo close the book but keep the stolen ability active, a loophole that lets him use two abilities at a time. This new advancement in Skill Hunter and a truly genius plan is how Chrollo managed to defeat and 'kill' Hisoka in Heaven's Arena , though him borrowing the abilities of both Shalnark and Kortopi did also unintentionally lead to their deaths.

1 Hisoka Marrow

Ah, finally it's Hisoka, one of the more polarizing characters in the franchise. He has some diehard fans out there, and people who absolutely despise him, but both groups will easily admit he’s one of anime's most interesting (and strongest) fighters. But, unlike Uvogin, Hisoka isn’t the strongest thanks to his raw physical strength (though it helps), it’s because he masterfully stacks a myriad of talents and utilizes them with perfect efficiency and creativity.

Whether it’s the hundreds of ways he uses his Bungee Gum Nen Aura, his Texture Surprise conjuration technique, his sleight-of-hand tricks, his brawn, his martial arts proficiency, or even just his lust for battle, Hisoka is a true monster that has only become more terrifying due to his now-seemingly-infinite Nen thanks to the Post-Mortem Nen pact that he revived himself with after his loss to Chrollo.

Biography [ ]

Early life [ ].

Machi was born in Meteor City. During her childhood, she was seen reporting Chrollo , Franklin , and Shalnark for barging into Uvogin 's territory. She was later seen during the Troupe's dubbing, demanding to play the role of a villain. When one of the cast named Sarasa went missing, Machi is one of the children who took part in searching for her. After the group soon discovered their fellow friend's mutilated body, they mourned for her death and prepared for her funeral.

At some point in time, she learned Nen through an embalmer named Renko, who used her ability to arrange Sarasa's funeral.

She was one of the original members of the Phantom Troupe. She participated in the massacre of the Kurta Clan.

Heaven's Arena Arc [ ]

Machi watched Hisoka battle Castro. After the battle, she criticized Hisoka's reckless fighting strategy. Hisoka paid her to heal his arms, which she did with ease using her Nen. Afterwards, she told him to join the Troupe in Yorknew City, warning him that Chrollo might kill him if he didn't attend. Hisoka asked her to dinner, but she ignored him.

Yorknew City Arc [ ]

Machi met with the other Troupe members in Yorknew city. Chrollo instructed them to steal all of the items for sale in the Mafia auction, and wreak havoc. However, when they got to the auction, they learned that the items had been moved.

The Troupe all watched as Uvogin killed several members of the Shadow Beasts. When Uvogin was captured by Kurapika, Machi used her needle to track him. They chased Kurapika, but they were stopped by other members of the Shadow Beasts. The Troupe easily killed all of the Shadow Beasts, except Owl, who they tortured for information. Machi and the other members later found and rescued Uvogin.

After Uvogin was killed, Machi and Nobunaga posed as a couple to try and find Kurapika. They found out that Gon and Killua were following them and captured them easily.

Machi and the other Troupe members staged a mass slaughter of the mafia. Afterwards, they stole all of the auction items. Chrollo then used Neon's ability to see their future and saw that many members would die if they stayed in Meteor City. However, Hisoka altered his prophecy to trick them into staying.

Machi and the Troupe then captured Gon and Killua again and took them to a hotel. When the lights were turned off, Killua tried to stab her in the stomach, but she easily absorbed the would-be lethal attack.

After Chrollo was captured, the Troupe argued about what to do next. Machi supported going along with Kurapika's demands so Chrollo's life wouldn't be risked. When Pakunoda returned, she sacrificed her life to give Machi and the other original Troupe members information about Kurapika.

Greed Island arc [ ]

Feitan and Phinks stole a copy of Greed Island. At first, Machi declined to play the game. However, she entered when she realized that they could find a Nen exorcist. She didn't want to work with Hisoka, since she knew that Hisoka wanted to kill Chrollo. She threatened to kill Hisoka if he hurt Chrollo.

Succession War Arc [ ]

Machi checked to make sure Hisoka was dead. Hisoka had previously hired her to heal his wounds. However, Hisoka had managed to revive himself. He immobilized Machi with his Bungee Gum and told her that he would kill every member of the Phantom Troupe, causing her to scream in rage.

Machi joined the other members on the Black Whale in order to hunt for Hisoka. Machi later separated from the other Troupe members to find Hisoka on her own.

Appearance [ ]

Machi is one of the few Phantom Troupe members that prefers to wear traditional Japanese-style clothing. She looks like a modern day kunoichi (female ninja). Her usual outfit consists of cycling short-like pants matched with a short-sleeved uwagi, an obi sash worn around her waist and an obijime is tied over it, a pair of finger-less gloves, tabi boots or socks with zōri, and leg warmers that cover from the ankles up to her knees. She has pink mid-back hair that is usually tied into an updo. In the 1999 anime adaptation, her hair is dark purple instead of pink.

Personality [ ]

Machi is one of the coldest members in the Phantom Troupe, almost never losing her cool or displaying any of her feelings. However, according to Shalnark, she is soft behind her uncaring façade. She is shown to care for Pakunoda, as she was one of the members who mourned her death and watched over her grave. Furthermore, Machi is fiercely loyal to Chrollo, going so far as to challenge two other members of the Troupe for his sake; moreover, she stated that she would hunt Hisoka down if he were to kill Chrollo. She is very confident in her strength, and, if threatened, she responds accordingly.

Machi also has sharp intuitions, which have turned out to be true most of the time and are trusted by some of her comrades, such as Nobunaga and Chrollo . Hisoka seems to have high regard for Machi and her abilities, although she treats him as a pest at best and a potential enemy of Chrollo's at worst; however, she seemed to care for Hisoka to some extent after he died, and, after he woke up, she merely told him she hoped he had learned his lesson, although her job was to ascertain he was truly dead. When she was restrained by Hisoka, she revealed a much wilder side, screaming in anger at him.

The Phantom Troupe is one of the most iconic villain organizations in the history of manga and anime. Hunter x Hunter created this eclectic group of extraordinary thieves to be a core antagonistic organization in the series. The Phantom Troupe guide reveals why this is and who they are.

When starting the Hunter x Hunter series, it can be daunting. With hundreds of episodes and chapters around, there is a lot to take in. This includes the many characters that are in it. The Phantom Troupe guide consists of some of the essential villains featured in the series. Here’s everything that you should know about them.

Bottom Line Up Front

The Phantom Troupe is the most critical criminal organization in Hunter x Hunter. In the ongoing manga series, this group has been a significant part of several different story arcs. In addition, they are pretty much the only recurring antagonistic organization.

The Phantom Troupe comprises 13 members, each number 1-12, with 0 being given to the leader. Originally formed as a group of outcast thieves looking to survive and make money together, they have become something so much more.

They are fiercely loyal to one another and will commit horrific acts for missions to make some money. The leader decides new group members, though it is possible for a prospective new member to kill an existing member to take their place.

For Hunter x Hunter main character, Kurapika , they are his greatest enemy for the tragic massacre of his Kurta Clan. These are all of the known members of the Phantom Troupe to date:

  • Chrollo Lucilfer
  • Nobunaga Hazama
  • Feitan Portor
  • Machi Komacine
  • Hisoka Morow
  • Kalluto Zoldyck
  • Phinks Macgub
  • Franklin Bordeau
  • Shizuku Murasaki
  • Bonolenov Ndongo
  • Illumi Zoldyck

Who Is the Phantom Troupe?

Phantom Troupe

The Phantom Troupe is one of the core groups in the Hunter x Hunter series. They are a band of thieves who are among the best. However, while they are known as accomplished thieves, this is almost underselling the dangerous group.

Many of the missions that the Phantom Troupe undertakes is to steal and earn money. However, they will also do other tasks at the same time. This means other evil deeds, including killing anyone who is necessary to accomplish their goals.

This is seen in the greatest evil act of the Troupe: killing the Kurta Clan. They have no qualms about other people’s lives and are highly loyal to one another. This comes from their roots as outcasts. Though the group is somewhat exclusive, new members can join.

Each person in the Phantom Troupe is numbered 1-12, except for the leader, who is known with the number 0. The numbering system is interesting since few details are made clear of what it all means. It does not seem to be a traditional ranking system or indicate their role.

The Phantom Troupe are the only major recurring villains in the Hunter x Hunter series. While others are mainly relegated to their respective arcs, the Phantom Troupe are an ever-present threat. While they do not necessarily have much beef with Gon and Killua, Kurapika’s life goal is to track them down.

And then there is the overwhelmingly complicated matter of Hisoka. While not a hero at all, he is a Hunter and crosses paths with the main characters often. As such, the overall Phantom Troupe is constantly getting involved with the central story arcs in the series.

Are They the Main Villains in Hunter x Hunter?

Given how important the Phantom Troupe is, it would not be necessarily wrong to consider them the main villains in Hunter x Hunter. Though this is not confirmed, they may be the endgame enemies. This is due to a few factors that we know.

Since the series is still ongoing, it is hard to say where the story is next. That said, no matter what, the Phantom Troupe will be part of it. They are the only major returning villains in the series that come back repeatedly. Well, except for Hisoka (more on that in a bit).

There is likely the main goal for them that is much more special than what we saw with past villains. Others like the Chimera Ants and the other players in Greed Island are only relative to their respective arcs. But the Phantom Troupe continues to be a menace across the entirety of the series.

Then there is also the matter of Kurapika. His entire life goal is to take out the Phantom Troupe, and that means they will continue to show up in the series until a resolution happens. To make matters worse, Killua now has his drama with members of the Phantom Troupe.

There are a lot of unresolved issues, and they will likely go ahead in the future. It is even possible that the Phantom Troupe will play a significant role as the main villain again in the final story arc for the series. For now, though, this is what we know about them.

Phantom Troupe History

Phantom Troupe

The Phantom Troupe began with the founding members in Meteor City. This is one of the most elusive locations in the Hunter x Hunter world as it is not even known by most people. Little is known about Meteor City as it is an exciting location that the series has not visited yet.

Despite mentioning it many times in the story, we have not seen it yet. All that we know then is from the descriptions by the Phantom Troupe members. It is a city made up of outcasts that have been thrown away from society.

This is seen in the fact that all Meteor City residents are essentially nonexistent. Though we do not know what country this city is in, it does not matter as the residents of the town do not legally exist. They have no official residency or documents that prove that they are citizens of that nation.

In addition, the city is known as a junkyard, so it is possible that it is a dirty and crime-ridden place. It is presumed that Meteor City is a hazardous place to live for its citizens. Most likely because of this, a few city members banded together at a very young age.

Those are the founding members of the Phantom Troupe who would become infamous villains. They were founded by Chrollo along with six other Spiders. They include Feitan, Franklin, Machi, Nobunaga, Pakunoda, and Uvogin.

They stood by each other’s backs as this group and are even more loyal to one another than the later members. Since the creation of the Phantom Troupe, there have been several different members that have gone throughout its ranks, and it is not exactly the same as it was at the beginning.

Spiders and Organization Explained

The Spiders is a nickname for the members of the Phantom Troupe. This is due to the spider-shaped tattoo that each of them wears somewhere on their body. This is known from a couple of the members who have shown their unique tattoos.

The spider is shaped with 12 legs, representing each member of the Phantom Troupe. The head or main body of the spider represents the leader of them, Chrollo. In addition to the shape of the spider, there is a number that is placed on the tattoo that shows the placement of that specific person.

It is presumed that Chrollo has a 0 on his tattoo, while this has not actually been seen before. The organization of the Troupe is quite bizarre and hidden. All that is known in the series is that Chrollo is the group leader and not much else.

There are some roles that a few of the members have, but that is it. Feitan is the substitute leader for the group if something happens to Chrollo or he is not around. In addition, there is an attack squad in the group that is focused on fighting.

Each of them has their own Nen powers and abilities, but it seems that the numbers do not play into this. Just because someone is a higher number does not necessarily mean they are more robust. They will do arm wrestling to see who the more powerful members are.

For the most part, there is a lot of autonomy that the members of the group have. They are usually free to go about their missions and business in their own ways.

This is especially seen in someone like Hisoka, who is a member of the Hunters Association, who are the “good guys” while being part of the “bad guys” at the same time.

How New Members Join the Group

Phantom Troupe

Initially, the Phantom Troupe began with less than the max 13 members. As such, they have a way of letting new members join them. This is something that we have directly seen before in the series. New members can only join the group by being approved by the leader, Chrollo.

Unfortunately, he is the only one who can make that decision. The other Spiders are able to influence the decision but they have no ultimate say over the matter. This does mean that someone can nominate a person to join the group but it is up to Chrollo to make the final decision.

In addition, one of the most common ways for a new member to join is to have a prospective Spider kill a the existing member. Despite this crazy act, they can possibly take the place of that person if they wish to. This is another situation that we have heard of before in Hunter x Hunter.

The Troupe also does not have to have a full set of members at one time. It is possible for the group to be less than the max 13 without that being an issue. This is another instance that we have seen in the series before. This leaves room when it happens for new members to join.

All Known Members of the Phantom Troupe

To help with getting to know the Phantom Troupe better, we are going to break down all of the members. These are the known members of the Phantom Troupe that we have seen so far. To be clear, there is a chance that there are other members beyond these.

However, we have not seen or learned about them thus far in the series. In addition, it is worth noting that there are going to be some spoiler-related moments detailed in these character descriptions. I will make sure not to spoil unnecessary events but you will find out about the outcome of some characters.

To be able to talk about some of the characters, it is crucial to reveal the fates of some of them. This is due to the fact that some members have replaced others. At the same time, there are also some spoilers for who joins the Phantom Troupe later in the series. With this in mind, here’s what you should know about all of the Phantom Troupe members we know about.

Chrollo Lucilfer: Number 0

Phantom Troupe Chrollo Lucilfer

Going in numerical order, we have the leader of them all, Chrollo. Chrollo is the mysterious, attractive, and menacing head honcho of the group. He is the founder of the Phantom Troupe and the enemy that no one wants to mess with.

His Nen ability is an insane one, allowing him to copy the skills of other characters and use them in battle. However, he does not rely too heavily on this ability. He is an intimidating foe without it as seen in the fact that Kurapika sealed his ability.

Even without his ability, he is able to destroy enemies with his bare hands and brute force. With his ability intact, though, he is nigh unstoppable as seen in his ability to defeat even Hisoka.

Nobunaga Hazama: 1

Nobunaga is one of the founding members of the Troupe. He has a distinct appearance and name that reference the older time period of Japan. He wields a katana in battle and is a thorough fighter. He also has one of the stranger personalities of the group.

He does not seem overly evil like some of the other members of the group, like Chrollo, for instance. That said, he is a horrible person, having participated in the Kurta Clan incident. Even still, he is a smart member of the group and someone who can be somewhat reasoned with.

Feitan Portor: 2

Feitan is a bizarre member of the Troupe and also one of the most terrifying. Currently seen as one of the leaders of the group, he is the interim. With Chrollo being out of commission due to the events with Kurapika, Feitan has taken over the Troupe and plays a major role.

Feitan also plays a horrible role in the activities of the group, being the torturer of them. He will question and interrogate enemies, using nasty methods to get it done. Feitan has a harsh personality and there is almost no good that can be seen in him. He does not even shy away from antagonizing his own teammates in the group.

Machi Komacine: 3

Machi Komacine

There are few female members of the Troupe and Machi is one of them. She is also one of the founding members of the team as well, coming from Meteor City. She has a beautiful and attractive personality, one that is intimidating but also quite different from the rest of the group.

Her pink hair and traditional garments help her to stand out as a more “normal” person in appearance. Machi is not a person that should be messed with, however. She has a harsh personality that hides the passion and caring that she has for Chrollo.

She will do anything for him and will even fight her fellow members to protect Chrollo. She is also the healer in the group, giving her the dual-sided nature of being a lifesaver and life taker at the same time.

Omokage: 4 (former member)

It is worth noting that Omokage is the only member of the Troupe who is not canon to the manga. This is due to his appearance in the Phantom Rouge anime film. He was the previous holder of the 4th spot in the team before Hisoka took his place.

He grew up as a doll maker prior to joining the Troupe. In the story of Phantom Rouge, it is revealed that he wanted to join the group to make a collection of soul dolls. He wished to make a soul doll out of every member of the group.

He departed the Phantom Troupe with the conclusion of his mission. Presumably, he is alive at this point in the story since he is one of the only former members who chose to leave on his own. That said, he is not canon in the manga at this time so it is uncertain if he will ever make a reappearance.

Hisoka Morow: 4 (former member)

Hisoka Morow

Hisoka Morow is one of the main characters of Hunter x Hunter. He is a former member of the group and was also numbered four. After defeating Omokage’s soul doll, he was able to take over as the next Troupe member. However, this origin story is technically not canon to the manga yet.

As such, the Hisoka that is canon to the manga and anime is that he is member number four at the start of the series. When we meet him, he is joining the Hunters Association and eventually doubles as a Hunter and Phantom Troupe member at the same time.

His Nen power allows him to use bungee gum to add a sticky material to his body composition. He is unbelievably powerful and a deadly killer that does not hesitate to eliminate his foes in a fraction of a second. He is one of the main people who comes across Gon and the gang throughout the series, being obsessed with the main heroes.

Hisoka is very much unlike any of the other Troupe members. He joined after the events with the Kurta Clan and had nothing to do with that.

His clown-like appearance carries over to his wild personality that is eccentric and passionate. He left the Phantom Troupe after the events of the Yorknew City arc with his intention of defeating Chrollo someday. Most recently in the manga, he has defeated a couple of members of the Troupe and is being hunted down for his betrayal.

Kalluto Zoldyck: 4

Kalluto Zoldyck is a member of the assassin Zoldyck family and the younger brother of main character Killua and villain Illumi. Yet another owner of the number 4 spot in the Troupe, he took over the spot that was left behind after Hisoka departed.

Kalluto is young and inexperienced. Though he has immense talent that makes him a rightful member of the group, he has a lot to learn from his new teammates. Being the younger brother of Killua, it is possible that they will have to face each other as enemies someday.

Phinks Macgub: 5

Phinks Magcub

Phinks is one of the original members of the Troupe, hailing from Meteor City. He has an upfront and brash personality, picking fights quite often. That said, he is a loyal follower of Chrollo.

It also appears that he seems to have a fascinating interest in Shizuku. In addition, he attempts to a mentor of sorts for Kalluto when he joins.

Shalnark: 6 (former member)

One of the other OG members of the Phantom Troupe is Shalnark. A now-former member of the group, he was unique in being part of the Hunters Association. This is interesting since only Hisoka and later Illumi also are employed by the Association. He was, ironically, killed by Hisoka recently in the manga.

Franklin Bordeau: 7

One of the more mysterious members of the Troupe, at least to me, is Franklin. He appears in many of the events that the rest of the group is in but he has uncertain goals.

He does appear to not be as wild and unhinged as some of the other Spiders. He is also not predicted to die unlike the five members that will supposedly die against Kurapika.

Shizuku Murasaki: 8

Shizuku Murasaki is one of the only other female members of the Troupe. She had contact and a brief relationship with Gon and the gang during the Yorknew City arc.

She is a thoughtful Spider and is able to win fights in methodical ways. Unfortunately, she is one of the five members who is predicted to die in the future if she fights Kurapika. She joined after the death of a currently mysterious eighth Spider.

Pakunoda: 9 (former member)

Pakunoda

One of the other Meteor City residents to start the Troupe is Pakunoda. She played an important role in the Yorknew City arc, meeting with Kurapika and learning the truth.

Kurapika put a chain on her heart, forcing Pakunoda to not reveal information about the Hunter. However, Pakunoda broke this rule and was killed by the Judgement Chain in the process.

Bonolenov Ndongo: 10

Bonolenov is by far the most unknown member of the Troupe. Though he appears in the various arcs that the other members are in like Greed Island and Yorknew City, he does little in each of them.

His largest appearance is in the Chimera Ant arc where he removes his bandages to show the holes that were forcibly made in his body.

Uvogin: 11 (former member)

Uvogin is one of the first Phantom Troupe members that we meet in the series and the first to die. He is known to have the most physical strength out of any member in the group.

As such, his battle with Kurapika is intense and he is eventually defeated. He was one of the original members and participated in the genocide of the Kurta Clan.

Illumi Zoldyck: 11

Illumi Zoldyck

A major villain in the Hunter x Hunter series from the beginning, Illumi Zoldyck is the older brother of main character Killua and also a Hunter. He antagonizes his brother and eventually takes Uvogin’s spot in the Troupe. He is technically friends with Hisoka (supposedly) and yet they are enemies much of the time.

Kortopi: 12 (former member)

Kortopi is another mysterious member of the group. Not doing much in the series, he is most known for his odd appearance and ability to copy items. He seems to be an information gatherer for the team. He is later murdered by Hisoka after his loss to Chrollo at the same time as Shalnark.

Question: Who was Phantom Troupe Number 4 Before Hisoka?

Answer: The fourth-numbered member of the Phantom Troupe was Omokage prior to Hisoka joining. However, it is worth noting that there are some issues with this. For one, this happened in the Phantom Rouge movie that is not directly considered canon to the manga. As such, it is possible that you could believe that Omokage is not the actual member of the Troupe before Hisoka. That is completely valid but ultimately pointless at this time. It does not look like the manga has any intention of addressing this topic anytime soon so it is the best answer we have for now.

Question: Who is the Strongest in the Phantom Troupe?

Answer: The strongest member of the Phantom Troupe is none other than Chrollo, in my opinion. Though this has not been directly confirmed, I think it is hard to argue other than him. Of course, going into this reasoning is a bit spoilery. Chrollo is the leader of the group but this is not just for show. His Nen power is insanely amazing, allowing him to copy other Nen abilities and use them. This, coupled with his base power makes him the strongest in the group. The other person that you could make an argument for is Hisoka. Or, well, he could have been the strongest member when he was part of the Troupe. However, there is evidence to suggest that Hisoka is second to Chrollo. His loss most recently in the manga in his long-awaited fight against Chrollo makes it clear who the stronger member is right now.

Question: Who is Number 2 in the Phantom Troupe?

Answer: This question could be taken in two different ways. It could be seen as wondering who has the number 2 as their placement in the Troupe or who is the second in charge in the group. When it comes to the person who holds the number 2 position, that is Feitan Portor. Feitan is numbered two. Ironically, he is also the same answer to the other side of the question. He is formerly the interim leader for the group when Chrollo is not around. As such, if there is anyone who would be considered next in charge, it is Feitan. Now, if we are talking about the second most powerful member of the Troupe, that will obviously go to Hisoka. Illumi is another strong member but I think that Hisoka would defeat him in battle.

The Hunter x Hunter Phantom Troupe plays a significant role in the series. However, it is worth noting that this organization is just one part of the manga and anime. There is still so much more to this series beyond just these few characters.

As such, we have created a general Hunter x Hunter characters guide that you should check out. It includes details on not just the Phantom Troupe but all of the other main and supporting characters you should know about. Be sure to give it a read.

Hunter x hunter: the 10 strongest members of the phantom troupe, ranked.

From Chrollo to Kalluto, Hunter x Hunter's Phantom Troupe members are all extremely dangerous opponents. But which Spider has the strongest bite?

The Phantom Troupe is Hunter x Hunter 's terrifying and tight-knit group of criminals, infamous for their many successful heists and staggering body count. Led by Chrollo Lucilfer, the original members all come from Meteor City, but the lineup has changed over the years.

The Troupe values versatility and efficiency, prizing nonlethal Nen abilities such as Kortopi's or Pakunoda's higher than even some of the Troupe's most destructive Hatsus. However, combat is still a large part of the Phantom Troupe, and though every Spider is likely stronger than a large majority of the population, some members of the Troupe present more of a threat than others.

Despite being one of the strongest Nen users in Hunter x Hunter , Hisoka lands at the bottom of the list due to the contentious nature of his membership. His Spider tattoo is infamously fake, and he doesn't participate at all in the mission in Yorknew, instead going out of his way to subvert their efforts. Considering how important loyalty is to the Troupe, his fickle commitment makes his membership questionable at best. This is unsurprising, as Hisoka often leaves Hunter x Hunter fans with more questions than answers .

However, Hisoka had already proven himself to be terrifyingly powerful opponent far before the Spiders' introduction. With his Nen mastery, superhuman physical abilities, and incredible intelligence, Hisoka is quite often the biggest threat in the room, especially considering his blood lust and lack of morals.

The youngest member of the Zoldyck family and the Phantom Troupe, Kalluto's deceptively fragile appearance belies his ability to tear people to pieces. Though he believes he's the weakest Spider, he's mastered some Nen techniques, developed his own Hatsu, and is able to spy on other members of the Troupe without being detected, all of which is incredibly impressive considering that he's 10 years old.

While his attacks initially seem like a graceful dance of fan and confetti, Kalluto's movements distract from how his paper is strong enough to cut through steel and sharp enough to sever limbs. While Kalluto is physically weaker and has had a lot less experience than the others, he's proven himself to be worthy of their ranks.

Though Shizuku's unique Nen ability has made her the designated "clean-up crew" for the Troupe, that doesn't make her any less dangerous.  She's also one of the most intelligent members of the Troupe, capable of quick strategy and analysis, which helps her close any gap in strength between herself and her opponents.

Shizuku's Nen ability, a conjured vacuum she calls "Blinky," might seem ridiculous, but its ability to inhale any nonliving object makes it an invaluable asset to the Troupe. While it's most useful outside of combat, Shizuku is able to wield Blinky as a gruesome weapon, leading to one of the most painful deaths inflicted by any of the Spiders. After inflicting precise bleeding wounds, Shizuku can then use Blinky to exsanguinate opponents, proving that a strong vacuum can be just as deadly as a sword.

Bonolenov is one of the most unusual characters in the series, sporting his tribe's traditional body modifications (holes pierced throughout his entire body) underneath his bandages. With his combat style revolving around the music he creates with his body, Bonolenov fights like a dancer, gracefully dodging attacks and tiring out opponents. He also uses sound to disarm and disorient, and it plays a key feature in his Nen ability.

Bonolenov's Nen ability uses music as the focus for his conjuration, with the effects depending on the song he plays. He can use this to create weapons and armor for himself, or to summon much larger projectiles. Notably, Bonolenov uses his song to create what seems like an imitation of the planet Jupiter, which is able to throw at the speed of light to crush his foes.

Nobunaga is a founding member of the Phantom Troupe, formerly fighting alongside Uvogin. A master swordsman, Nobunaga has a powerful and frightening aura that he's able to extend out so he can tell the instant someone enters his range, using his advanced perception and speed to strike immediately.

While Nobunaga has yet to be seen in genuine combat and his Nen ability remains unknown, Chrollo has designated him as part of the Troupe's attack unit. With this role, he's tasked with protecting the "lifelines" of the group, i.e., those, such as Shizuku, with abilities essential to their operations.  Considering Chrollo's confidence in his combat skills, when Nobunaga finally reveals his abilities, it's bound to be impressive.

Although he was the first Spider to die, Uvogin's tragic end left a mark of sadness on Hunter x Hunter . Showcasing not only incredible physical strength but indomitable endurance and loyalty, Uvogin was the first example of the terrifying might of the Phantom Troupe. Uvogin (literally) embodied what it meant to be an Enhancer, using Nen to improve his physical form to the point where his entire body could be weaponized and his skin acted as a near-impenetrable shield.

Uvogin's true strength rested in his unflinching determination and spirit. He withstood torture, poison, and infestation with leeches all while fighting with the same power as before. In fact, what really killed Uvogin was his relentless drive to defend his fellow Spiders, remaining unbreakable until the very end.

Machi is the first real Spider introduced in Hunter x Hunter , and her Nen Stitches definitely set the bar for the rest of the Troupe. Winning Hisoka's approval and selected as a guard for two of the most important Spiders, it's clear that Machi's peers regard her as capable and powerful. She excels at stealth and is extremely physically resistant, but her real skill is the versatility of her Nen.

With her Nen Threads, Machi can heal extreme wounds in moments, track people across long distances, and manipulate physical bodies. She has proven herself to be adept at using her thread offensively, strangling or slicing at enemies as well as creating traps and restraints. In Yorknew, she is able to puppeteer several bodies at once, not only using them as human shields or weapons.

The Troupe's master torturer, Feitan is a Conjurer who won the title of acting leader while Chrollo was gone. Despite being mostly standoffish and unassuming, Feitan has proven himself to be one of the strongest members. He is able to instantly decapitate multiple mafia guards barehanded and consistently dodge and parry Zazan's attacks, at one point moving so quickly he becomes imperceptible, despite "not being at his best."

Feitan does not often use his incredibly powerful Nen ability in Hunter x Hunter , capable of being a vicious opponent with his hands or sword. Feitan's Rising Sun unleashes what seems to be a literal imitation of the sun, which superheats the area around him before exploding. The only time it's been used so far is plenty devastating, and Feitan makes it clear that it is capable of being much, much worse.

Despite joining the Troupe only at Hisoka's request, Illumi is, unlike his partner, actually inducted as a legitimate member, taking a spot alongside his brother, Kalluto, as the new 11th Spider. Using his needles as conduits, Illumi masters the whole range of Manipulator abilities at his leisure. He's capable of changing his own appearance, puppeteering both living and dead bodies, and mind control.

Illumi is powerful enough that Hisoka considers him a worthwhile ally and genuine threat, ranking his strength over that of the Zodiacs, the top-tier of hunters in the Hunter x Hunter universe . Seeing as he has yet to be in a situation where he seems even remotely concerned, it's fair to say that fans have yet to see Illumi's real power level.

Unsurprisingly, the Phantom Troupe's enigmatic leader has more than earned his place as the head of the Spider. Chrollo is, without a doubt, one of the strongest characters in all of Hunter x Hunter,  a fact that is proven again and again. He is recognized as dangerous by the two oldest Zoldycks,  and Zeno even believes that Chrollo, if he had been actually trying during their fight, may have been able to kill him.

When Chrollo and Hisoka finally battle, Chrollo unleashes the full array of his abilities to devastating effect. The fight is challenging on both sides, but Chrollo accomplishes what no one else in Hunter x Hunter has: defeating Hisoka Morow. His incredible precision, intelligence, speed, and strength combined with his mastery over Nen and the abilities he's copied with Skill Thief make him an opponent unlike anyone else.

Background  [ ]

She is a founding member of the Troupe five from Meteor City. The people who live there do not exist on any official record, and the existence of the city itself is known to very few people. Machi and Hisoka met and, therefore, she was hired by him to put his arms in place after the battle against Kastro at Heavens Arena. After healing Hisoka's arms, Hisoka teamed up with the rest of the Phantom Troupe in Yorknew City to steal all the items in the Underground Auction.

Powers & Abilities [ ]

  • Immense Strength, Stamina, Speed and Durability
  • Muscle control: Machi has excellent control over his muscles, preventing Killua's hand from reaching his vitals and then holding him in place. She seems to be able to close her wounds by contracting her muscles as she has no blood showing on her clothes, even though her chest has been punctured.
  • Improved Agility: Machi can run along the sides of buildings and easily jump horizontally from one to another. She can also easily scale several floors of a building in a matter of seconds.
  • Ten: It is the ability to prevent the aura from leaking out of the body once the aura's nodules are opened and instead contain it in and around the body. Ten prevents the aura from leaving the body, which allows it to maintain youthful vigor and age at a much slower rate. It also acts as a defense against physical attacks and emotional Nen attacks full of malice.
  • Zetsu: Stops the flow of your body's aura completely, closing off all aura nodules. This makes them more difficult or even impossible to perceive or feel. However, this means that the defense to any Nen, Ten attack is taken down, making it a major risk to use. Zetsu can also relieve fatigue because it interrupts the use of the aura.
  • Ren: It focuses on producing a greater amount of aura than Ten and projecting it out violently. The user exudes a large amount of aura that enhances all their physical abilities, such as stamina and endurance.
  • Gyo: Is an advanced Ren application whereby a Nen user concentrates a large part of their aura on a specific part of the body. It increases the strength of one part of the body but leaves the rest of the body more vulnerable as it is a less protective exchange but greater amplification in a particular place. It is often used to improve the perception of seeing Nen structures hidden by the use of In .
  • In: Is an advanced Zetsu application and makes its aura unnoticeable to Nen users who can see the already invisible Nen, even an extremely powerful aura is hidden. It hides the normal five senses and even extrasensory perception from Nen users. Em can be seen by Gyo.
  • En: is an advanced application of Ten and Ren in which a user extends the aura around a certain distance using Ren to extend their Ten aura to shape it, usually a sphere. The minimum requirements for En are to extend the aura two meters and hold it for one minute. Anything inside En is instantly detected by the user.
  • Shu: Is an advanced application of Ten and wraps objects in an aura, allowing them to be used as an extension of the user's body.
  • Ko: Is a combination of Ten, Zetsu, Hatsu, Ren and Gyo to focus the user's aura on a specific part of the body.
  • Ken: Is an advanced application of Ten and Ren. It is primarily a defensive technique through the use of extended Ren. Ken defends the entire body equally. Can also be used as a miniature En.
  • Ryu: Is Ken's use of Gyo in active combat, assigning aura percentages to different body parts when necessary.
  • Nen Stitches: Machi is able to create threads that can be stretched without limit of his aura and can only be seen using Gyo. These threads can be used to sew open wounds and even to reconnect severed limbs completely quickly. From what she said after reconnecting Hisoka's arm and since the mage could move his fingers immediately after the operation, it's reasonable to think that the points also have moderate regenerative properties, whether revitalizing dead cells or stimulating the production of new ones.

Feats  [ ]

Strength  [ ].

  • Took sixth place in the arm wrestling between members of the Phantom Troupe.
  • Easily decapitated a person using his Nen threads.
  • Should scale to her fellow Phantom Troupe comrade, Bonolenov, who created a massive crater (266 tons of TNT)

Speed  [ ]

  • Immobilized Gon in the blink of an eye as he tried to flee from Pakunoda.
  • Quick enough to fasten her nen string to Uvogin while he was being pulled quickly by Kurapika's chains.
  • Reacted quickly and captured Gon even after being kicked by Killua.

Durability  [ ]

  • A kick from Killua did no damage to it.
  • Has excellent control over hwe muscles, preventing Killua's hand from reaching his vitals.
  • Despite multiple fractures, she was later seen moving, breathing and speaking normally.

Skill  [ ]

  • She was able to sew up Hisoka's torn arms.
  • She managed to throw a needle at Uvogin so as not to lose his location when he was captured by Kurapika .
  • Machi noticed that she and Nobunaga were being watched by Gon , Killua and Leorio
  • Even though Killua went through her chest, breaking a few ribs and tearing the muscle, she still managed to contain him by keeping Gon trapped.
  • Machi was stated to be able to make a string which could wrap around the globe (58.7 kilotons - 2.1 megatons of TNT for strength, Mach 452.5 - 2715.1 for speed)

Weaknesses  [ ]

  • The longer her strands, the weaker they are.
  • If the yarn itself leaves your hand, its tensile strength drops significantly.
  • Zetsu involves keeping the aura exclusively in the body, makes the user Nen more vulnerable to physical attacks and Nen, because you don't have any aura outside the body to protect yourself.

Fun Facts [ ]

  • Machi is the second member of the Phantom Troupe to be shown.
  • Machi appears to be the only member of the Troupe aware of Hisoka's Texture Surprise ability.
  • Machi's color palettes in both Hunter X Hunter animes are different.
  • 1 Twilight Sparkle
  • 2 Fluttershy
  • 3 Sephiroth (Final Fantasy)

10 Best Hunter x Hunter Villains, Ranked

From the Phantom Troupe to the Chimera Ants, Hunter x Hunter features some of the most fascinating, loveable and hateable villains in anime.

Hunter x Hunter is a series defined by gray morality. As the story goes on, the line between its heroes and villains becomes increasingly thin.. There are exceptions to this, with noble heroes and despicable villains, but more commonly, the cast cannot be put in such simple boxes as "good" or "evil." This aspect of the series serves to make both the heroes and the villains more complex and nuanced.

Whether the villains are opposing Gon, Killua and Kurapika, are in conflict with the supporting cast, or fighting among themselves, they never fail to steal the audience's attention. Fans of Hunter x Hunter spend just as much time inside the heads of villains as they do inside the heroes, allowing them to fully understand their motivations, philosophies and what makes them tick — to the point that it can be difficult not to root for some of them. Add in fantastic designs and some of the coolest and most unique powers in shonen, and fans have a legendary rogues gallery. From the Phantom Troupe to the Chimera Ants, Hunter x Hunter features some of the most fascinating, loveable and hateable villains in anime.

10 Machi Komacine Is Fans' First Introduction to the Phantom Troupe

Machi Komacine is #3 of The Phantom Troupe and a founding member of the band of thieves. Machi was originally just a poor girl from Meteor City, a place where the citizens don't legally exist. She was friends with Uvogin and aided him in bullying the other kids. The two would befriend the other eventual villains, as Chrollo brought them all together to be part of his voice-acting troupe. When a close friend was murdered by human traffickers, and no authorities cared because of where she came from, Machi swore loyalty to Chrollo, as they and their friends vowed to avenge her death by becoming the world's most feared villains so that no one would dare to harm their people again.

Among the Phantom Troupe, Machi was the first true member to whom audiences were introduced. While her role in the group isn't as a frontline combatant, she's nonetheless the sixth strongest physically and a deadly Transmuter. Armed with her Nen Stitches and Nen Threads, Machi can heal and regenerate nearly any physical wound and create super strong, razor-sharp threads capable of puppeteering other people's bodies. Machi is cold, no-nonsense, completely devoted to the Troupe, and trusted by all her peers for her keen instincts. Fans have never had the chance to witness Machi go all-out in a fight, but with her currently seeking out revenge on Hisoka for murdering two of her friends, something she blames herself for, that chance may come soon.

9 Illumi Zoldyck Is Irredeemable

Illumi Zoldyck is the eldest brother of one of Hunter x Hunter 's main protagonists, Killua. Raised by his father, Silva, to be the perfect assassin, Illumi is completely ruthless and without mercy. He is loyal to his family and their reputation and will do anything to preserve them. More than anything else, Illumi is obsessed with Killua. When Killua was little, Illumi used his Nen Needles to place a command on Killua's mind to always run away when faced with a stronger enemy. This is merely the most literal form of Illumi's controlling nature, as he delights in tormenting and messing with his younger brother, all said to be in the name of helping the young prodigy achieve his full potential.

Illumi is one of the most dangerous Manipulators in the series. Equal in strength to his sometimes-friend Hisoka, Illumi can insert his pins and needs into himself or others, allowing him to completely change someone's physical appearance, place them under a hypnotic spell, and puppet corpses around as his soldiers. Most recently, Illumi has joined the Phantom Troupe, both to look after his youngest brother, Kalluto, and to assassinate his most recently assigned target: Hisoka.

8 Menthuthuyoupi Is Nearly Unstoppable

Menthuthuyoupi, or just "Youpi," was one of the three Chimera Ant royal guards. Born to serve his king, Meruem, Youpi was the youngest of the guards, as well as the most straightforward, lacking the egos and cruel natures of Neferpitou and Shiapouf. His only concern was to fulfill his role as the king's ultimate shield, uninterested in developing his own personality or interests. This is likely due to him being the only one of the guards not born from human DNA, instead a product of Chimera Ant and magical beast DNA.

It was during the palace invasion that everything changed for Youpi. Engaged in combat with Knuckle, Shoot, Morel and Meleoron , Youpi developed a love for the thrill of battle. This not only brought out a selfish side of him, as he prioritized continuing his battle over rushing to the king's side, but a cunning side of him as well, learning to better use his abilities to counter those of the Hunters. Once he had defeated the Hunters, he also displayed his merciful side, thanking them for an incredible fight.

Youpi is one of the most powerful characters in Hunter x Hunter . Nearly unmatched in physical strength, his body can adapt to nearly any situation, be it growing wings for flight or additional eyes to keep up with a swift opponent. His strongest attack is his rage blast, with Youpi channeling his anger into destructive energy blasts. Had he not fallen to the radiation produced by the Poor Man's Rose, it's doubtful any Hunters would have ever been able to stop him.

7 Uvogin Never Surrendered

15 strongest phantom troupe members in hunter x hunter, ranked.

Uvogin was a founding member of the Phantom Troupe and their strongest fighter. Once the local bully in Meteor City, Uvogin especially delighted in picking on a young Chrollo Lucilfer. After the death of their friend, Chrollo initially asked Uvogin to lead the newly formed Phantom Troupe in their mission, but Uvogin declined, capable of seeing that the genius he'd previously bullied was the leader they needed.

Despite not taking up a leadership role, Uvogin filled his function as #11 in the Phantom Troupe perfectly. A master Enhancer, Uvogin was not only the physically strongest member of the Troupe, but he also possessed the Hatsu, "Big Bang Impact," allowing him to throw a punch with the impact of a small missile. Like most Enhancers, Uvogin was simple-minded. He loved fighting and killing, he loved eating, and he loved his friends. That love and loyalty would wind up being his undoing, as, following his defeat at the hands of Kurapika, his refusal to give up any information about the Phantom Troupe resulted in his swift execution.

6 Pakunoda Made Fans Cry for a Villain

#9 in The Phantom Troupe, Pakunoda was Chrollo's closest friend and confidante. All the way back to their days in Meteor City, she and Chrollo were inseparable long before they bonded with the rest of their eventual family. While she was just as ruthless a killer and equally intimidating as the rest of the Troupe, Pakunoda was one of the most compassionate members and was fiercely dedicated to Chrollo's ideal of prioritizing the group's survival over all else — even his own life.

While one of the weakest members of the Phantom Troupe physically, Pakunoda was also one of the most intelligent, and her role as the Troupe's information gatherer didn't necessitate her being a powerful fighter. Pakunoda was a Specialist, capable of using her Nen to observe the memories of others and implant memories into other peoples' heads by shooting them. Like Uvogin, it was her loyalty to her family that cost Pakunoda her life . With Chrollo having disappeared, Uvogin's murderer still on the loose, the Troupe at each other's throats, and Kurapika having placed a curse on her that would kill her if she explained the situation to anyone, Pakunoda sacrificed herself to put her memories in the other founding members' heads and keep the Troupe alive.

5 Neferpitou Killed Kite

Neferpitou, or just "Pitou," was the oldest and strongest of the Chimera Ant royal guards. Pitou shared the same absolute loyalty and dedication to protecting their king as the other royal guards. Where they differed was in their cat-like curiosity for understanding humans, Nen and the world around them, their playfulness, the ease with which they were distracted, and the depth of their cruelty.

Pitou changed the course of Hunter x Hunter forever by murdering Gon and Killua's mentor, Kite. This action not only led to Gon going down a dark path and losing his Nen but also Neferpitou's own death at his hands. Prior to their death, Pitou underwent a change of heart. As their king's priorities shifted from conquering the world and feasting upon all humans to caring for and protecting his first friend, Komugi, so too did Pitou's. When faced by Gon following Kite's death, they could have more than easily killed him. However, doing so would have engaged Komugi, and so they were forced to submit to protect her.

A Specialist, Pitou was not only one of the most physically strong and fastest characters in Hunter x Hunter , possibly only beaten by Meruem himself, but a master of multiple hatsus. With "Doctor Bylthe," Pitou could treat any injury, "Puppeteering" allowed them to take complete control of another person, and "Terpsichora" could make them even more powerful than they already were.

4 Shaiapouf Is the True Villain of the Chimera Ant Arc

10 dumbest hunter x hunter villains.

The final Chimera Ant royal guard, Shaiapouf, or "Pouf," was the second to be born and the evilest and smartest of the three. While Youpi presented himself as an emotionless wall and Pitou wanted only whatever the king wanted, Pouf worshiped his ideal of his perfect king rather than the true Meruem he served. Despite putting on the act of a man of class and elegance, Shiapouf was a deranged monster, and when Meruem slid away from being the ruthless, uncaring king Pouf thought he was meant to be, his true nature revealed itself.

Fitting his cunning nature, Pouf was a Manipulator. Using his Nen abilities, Pouf could bestow Nen onto others by keeping them locked in a cocoon, read minds, hypnotize people, split his own body apart into millions of miniature copies, and control his body on a molecular level — all while also being nearly as physically strong as Pitou and Youpi . Like Youpi, Pouf fell to the Poor Man's Rose, living just long enough to see his ideal, cruel king replaced by a kind and compassionate man.

3 Hisoka Morow Is the Ultimate Hunter x Hunter Villain

Over the decades that Hunter x Hunter has run for, the series' original main villain, Hisoka Morow, has remained one of the series' most popular and iconic characters. Little is known about Hisoka's past other than his childhood love for the chewing gum "Bungee Gum," after which he'd later name his hatsu. Hisoka is a purely selfish agent of chaos who lusts only after fighting strong opponents. He is also a master strategist and trickster, both in how he arranges for his desired fights to occur and in how he dismantles his opponents once in combat.

Armed with "Bungee Gum," a hatsu that allows him to form and manipulate a substance that possesses the features of both rubber and gum, Hisoka is one of the deadliest fighters in the world of Hunter x Hunter . The only time he is ever known to have lost a fight is against Chrollo Lucilfer. Losing this battle not only set Hisoka down a path of revenge against the entire Phantom Troupe but also revealed that, for as much as Hisoka lives for battling the strong, he's also a sore loser.

2 Meruem Learned To Be Human

Meruem is the main antagonist of Hunter x Hunter 's longest arc, the Chimera Ant arc, but whether or not he was truly the villain by the end of it is a hotly debated subject. Upon being born, Meruem killed his mother, along with several other members of his people, and began his single-minded quest for world domination. However, the persona of the cruel, merciless king evaporated as he befriended Komugi, the blind and sickly world gungi champion. Through his friendship with her, Meruem discovered the true nature of strength and the potential within humanity for greatness.

By the time of his final battle with Isaac Netero, Meruem still intended to rule the world. However, because he believed he could create a better world for everyone, he no longer intended to slaughter and feast upon all of humanity. While he was able to defeat Netero and even survive the nuclear explosion from the Poor Man's Rose, even the most powerful and most intelligent character in Hunter x Hunter couldn't survive radiation poisoning. The monster who'd been born to wipe out humanity spent his final moments playing one last game of gungi with Komugi, the two passing on together.

1 Chrollo Lucilfer Does Everything for His Friends

25 strongest hunter x hunter characters.

The shy, meek and kind son of a wealthy clergyman in Meteor City, all Chrollo wanted was to form a famous voice-acting troupe with his friends. But the young genius couldn't deny the cruel realities of the world, and following the death of his friend, he made it his personal mission to ensure that no one would ever threaten the people of Meteor City again — even if it meant becoming the world's most hated and feared villain.

Chrollo is calm and charismatic, and, like the rest of the Phantom Troupe, he hardened his heart long ago to become a ruthless killer, to the point of having led the massacre of the Kurta Clan. Chrollo designed the Phantom Troupe to function like a spider, with him as the head and his friends as the legs, knowing that if any of them died, if any part of the spider was removed, it could be replaced. He cares nothing for his own life, not fearing death at all, with his only priorities being the continued existence of the spider and the safety of Meteor City.

Chrollo is a Specialist and, as the only character to have ever beaten Hisoka, he is one of the most powerful Nen users in Hunter x Hunter . He can steal other people's Nen powers and store them in a book, and then choose which ones he wishes to use in any given situation. As Chrollo currently hunts Hisoka to avenge the murders of two of his friends, a rematch between the two seems inevitable, and the greatest showcase yet of Chrollo's power may be on the way.

Overview [ ]

Gon and Killua trail two members of the Phantom Troupe, only to be captured. Meanwhile, other members of the Troupe continue to gather information on the Nostrade Family and the chain user.

Summary [ ]

49 - Silva warns his sons

Silva warns his sons of the Phantom Troupe

Gon , Killua and Leorio head to the location where two Phantom Troupe members were spotted. Arriving at the area, the trio watch Machi and Nobunaga at a distance. The Spiders discuss what could have happened to their comrade Uvogin while planning their next move. The two bystanders who found the Spiders receive a sum of money from Killua and then runoff. Machi and Nobunaga wonder if Uvo is dead or not. Killua explains to Leorio why it's impossible for them to catch two Troupe members, recalling something that his father said when he fought one. He complained that the price wasn't enough as Killua says that is the greatest compliment a target can get, his Dad telling them to stay away from the Troupe.

49 - Machi and Nobunaga argue

Tension between Machi and Nobunaga

He continues by saying the Troupe isn't worried to show themselves in public, acting as bait to trap their prey. Machi and Nobunaga are aware someone's watching them, making them think it is Kurapika and Nobunaga will stick to the rules that their boss told them to capture and bring the chain user back, dead or alive. The two begin to have a heated conversation, while the three feel the atmosphere changing, wondering if they've been noticed, but Killua is confident they weren't. Leorio explains he can't use Zetsu , but Killua believes that it will attract more attention. He also thinks their opponents are not trying to sense Nen , instead they are trying to tell which people are suspicious around them. Machi and Nobunaga still argue whether they will take down the chain user dead or alive as the two finally solve their arguments by flipping a coin.

HxH2011 EP49 Chrollo and Shalnark using the Hunter Site

Chrollo and Shalnark father information on the Nostrade Family

Shalnark and Chrollo gather information about the Nostrade Family , knowing that the chain user is working for them and Chrollo becomes interested in Neon Nostrade . At the Hotel, Light Nostrade advises his bodyguards to keep his daughter safe at all costs. He gives orders to Basho and Melody to bring Neon back to their way home, promising Neon she'll go to an auction one day. When Neon leaves the room, Light informs his guards that the Underground Auction will resume at night as the Ten Dons vowed to reclaim the lost items.

Silva and Zeno2

The hired professional assassins

Regarding the stolen items, Kurapika mentions the Shadow Beast who took the items beforehand, but Light informs them that all the Shadow Beasts have been wiped out except for Owl , who is the one holding the items for auction. Light believes that he was captured by the Troupe, the Ten Dons assume that the stolen items are already in the Troupe's hand and this is why they hired professional assassins to get rid of the Troupe. Nostrade orders Kurapika to join the assassins to hunt the Troupe as it will give them a chance to make a name for themselves.

HxH2011 EP49 Gon tailing Machi and Nobunaga

Gon tailing Machi and Nobunaga

Machi and Nobunaga make their move and the three start to plan, deciding Gon and Killua will tail them. If they are spotted, they will stop and escape; if further pursuit is impossible for any other reason, they will give up. Killua advises Gon, giving him a signal through his phone and if the Spiders split up, they will follow Machi, while Leorio will join Zepile to help him in the auction. The tailing starts when Nobunaga and Machi move, Gon and Killua following with great caution. The two realize they are being followed and are quite impressed with their skills since they can't sense a thing. As the tailing continues, Killua realizes that the two already know they're being followed and are heading to a deserted area. He starts making assumptions whether it's a trap or are they going back to the hideout as Killua decides to continue their pursuit.

HxH2011 EP49 Machi and Nobunaga

Machi and Nobunaga stop at a deserted place

Machi and Nobunaga stop in the middle of a deserted place, surrounded by abandoned buildings, acknowledging the ones following them can't be the Chain user since he assumes that he works alone considering he works for the Nostrade family, yet he fought Uvogin alone. The Mafia hasn't made a move, meaning they would have used Uvogin against them, dead or alive. If he was dead, then the news would have spread. Since nothing has happened, Nobunaga thinks the chain user killed Uvogin without reporting to the Mafia and used revenge as a motive. Machi rejects that and believes the ones following them have some connection with the chain user.

Killua trying to escape Phinks 2011

Phinks easily grabs Killua

Gon and Killua talk on the phone, believing that they are trying to lure them out when suddenly Nobunaga's phone rings. The two pay close attention to Nobunaga and Machi, waiting for a reaction from them, then they'll make a run for it. Nobunaga explains their situation to Phinks , who is on the other end and offers Nobunaga some help. Nobunaga suddenly looks directly toward Killua's location. Both Gon and Killua quickly make an escape, but the doors are blocked by Phinks and Pakunoda . Killua uses his speed and bounces around the room, but Phinks easily grabs his leg. Killua grabs stones and throws them towards Phinks as a distraction, immediately following a kick that is also easily caught by Phinks. Killua pierces the ground with his fingers, spinning until he's escaped from Phinks' grasp, but behind him is Nobunaga. Killua realizes he and Gon were the ones being stalked by Phinks and Pakunoda the whole time.

HxH2011 EP49 Pakunoda questions Gon and Killua

Pakunoda questioning Gon and Killua

Gon is surrounded by Machi and Pakunoda, asking him if he knows the chain user, not knowing yet that the chain user is Kurapika. Nobunaga asks him why they're following them and Killua has no choice but to answer. The Mafia put a huge bounty on them, telling them who taught him Nen and questions if he knows anyone using chains. Killua says he has no idea who that is, making Nobunaga ask his last question whether he wants to die now or later, having only 3 seconds to answer. Gon tries to escape, barely moving an inch before getting caught by Machi and Pakunoda gets a call saying Killua has surrendered. On the way to their hideout, the Troupe asks the same questions and the two have the same answers, Pakunoda putting her arm around Killua. They finally arrive at the hideout, meeting the rest of the Troupe and in more danger than ever.
