• Telus Mobility plans include call display, voicemail 10, call waiting, conference calling, call forwarding (2500 local minutes) and Easy Roam.
• Use the Telus Easy Payment Plan if you are purchasing a new device. This is a plan where you choose how to pay off your device within 24 months. 

Discounts and Promotions to Look Out For: 

• If you bring your own device and have two or more subscribers on your contract porting into the same line, you could get a $5.00 discount every month for 24 months. This is called a ‘Port-in Credit’. 
• Also, the more lines you have on your contract, each additional line is only $5.00! For example, if you have two lines it is $10.00 per line, and if you have 3 lines it is $15.00 per line. This is called a Multi Unit Discount. 
• With the Telus Easy Payment Plan, you will receive a $35 bill credit each month for 3 months! 

Peace of Mind for Business – Non-Shareable Data:  

• If you bring your own device, this plan offers 10GB or 20GB of data starting at $75.00 per month.
• If you go over your data, the speed is reduced to 512Kbps instead of charging you extra. 
• If you NEED that data speed, you can pay an additional $15 for a 3GB Fast Pass. 

Simple Share Plan for Business – Shareable Data:  

• This plan can be paired with the Peace of Mind for Business plan as well as the Multi-Unit Discount discussed above. 
• The main advantage of this plan, is you can share the data in your business, meaning you can  get up to 70GB of data on your plan , depending on the add-on of your choice. 
• If you go over your data, there are additional charges; $10.00/100MB up to $70.00/700MB – then $0.15/MB afterwards. 
• If you activate with the Telus Easy Payment plan, you will receive 3 months free, as well as if you need a new device, you can also get the $365.00 bill credit for 3 months!

Vancouver-based national telecom Telus has launched a new plan aimed at small business owners. Dubbed the ‘Owner’s Advantage’ plan, it comes with 50GB of data and several benefits.

Your business, likely your most valuable asset, deserves careful consideration within your estate plan to ensure a smooth transition of ownership and management in the event of incapacity or death.

As a business owner, there are more complexities and nuances to consider as it relates to estate planning. Therefore, it is critical to work with a qualified estate planning attorney who can help you create an estate plan that protects you, your business, and your heirs. As you navigate the estate planning process, consider these important items tailored to small business owners.

1. Last will and testament

One of the fundamental pieces to an effective estate plan is the last will and testament. This legal document is inexpensive and simple to set up.

This document serves as your voice beyond the grave, providing instructions to the state probate court regarding the distribution of your assets and the care of your dependents upon your passing. Without a will, your assets will be distributed according to state inheritance laws, which may not align with your wishes. In addition to personal assets, you may include business assets in your will.

A will may be amended during your lifetime and should be reviewed periodically, especially after major life events.

One thing to note is that a will does not avoid the probate process. While it provides guidance for asset distribution, your estate will still go through probate.

2. Revocable living trust

Establishing a revocable living trust is more complex and expensive than a will. Nevertheless, the advantages a living trust offers, especially for business owners, make it very attractive.

As a business owner, it is likely that most of your assets are tied to your business. A revocable living trust provides you with more control over these assets. Through a trust, you can appoint a trustee and provide them with specific instructions on how and when you want your business assets distributed. Moreover, you retain the flexibility and control to transfer assets into the trust and modify its terms during your lifetime.

One significant advantage of a trust is the protection it affords your assets from the probate process. By bypassing probate court proceedings, your estate information remains private, and your heirs save considerable time and money.

It is always a great idea to regularly update the assets in your living trust, as your business assets will change as your business grows over time.

3. Financial power of attorney

In most cases, as a small business owner, you are your business. If you become incapacitated, you want to ensure that you have someone you trust to handle your financial affairs. It is essential that you do not delay this task, as you must be legally competent to assign this role to someone. A financial power of attorney is a legal document that authorizes your selected agent to act on your behalf regarding certain financial matters of your choosing. Some of these matters may include:

• Paying your business bills
• Making business bank deposits and withdrawals
• Collecting and managing your self-employed retirement benefits
• Filing your business and personal taxes

There are different types of financial power of attorney that will determine how much power your agent holds and when their responsibilities take effect.

4. Succession plan

It is one thing to decide on how you want your business interests and assets to be distributed to your heirs. However, it is also critical to have an exit strategy for what happens to your business if you die or are incapacitated. Who do you want to run your business in your absence? Or do you want someone to be in charge of selling your business for a fair price?

Without an effective succession plan, your heirs may be forced to undersell your business, undermining all your hard work. An established succession plan will provide guidance on how to manage, sell, or pass on your business to new owners.

When developing your business succession plan, it is critical to work with a team of attorneys and CPAs. Not working with experienced professionals could create a significant tax bill for your heirs, eating into their inheritance.

Life happens, so make sure that you start working on your succession plan now.

5. Digital estate planning document

A common blind spot in estate planning is the digital asset space. So much of our lives are digital, but we often do not consider what happens to our digital assets if we were no longer here to manage them. As a small-business owner, it is critical to create a plan for your digital assets after you are gone to prevent any financial and sentimental harm.

The first step is to create a list of all the digital assets that you own. Some examples include email accounts, social media accounts, bank accounts, credit card accounts, and cellphones.

Digital estate planning will make it easier for your heirs to access your digital assets as needed. For example, there may be unpaid business invoices or bills that need to be taken care of.

I recommend that you consult with an attorney, as laws and regulations surrounding data and digital assets are constantly evolving.

6. Reviewing beneficiary designations

Most assets should be included in a will or trust to ensure these assets are distributed the way you want. An exception to this is any account where you are allowed to designate a beneficiary.

Example accounts include retirement plans , investment accounts, bank accounts , health savings accounts, UGMA or UTMA custodial accounts , and life insurance policies. These accounts will bypass probate and go directly to the beneficiaries listed on the account.

Typically, you are allowed to designate a primary and secondary beneficiary. In addition, you are allowed to make changes to these designations at any point. It is a good idea to reevaluate your designations after major life events.

7. Life insurance for estate liquidity

As mentioned above, life insurance proceeds avoid probate because of the beneficiary designations listed within the accounts.

Life insurance is designed to fill in financial gaps for your heirs. This is especially important for a business owner. There may be unpaid debts, payroll, or operating costs that need to be paid. Life insurance proceeds will help ease the pain of your heirs while they devote their time to sorting out other details.

Small Businesses Seek Funding Despite Tough Lending Market

Small businesses continue to face challenges beyond their control. In the past year alone, they’ve weathered increasing prices, high interest rates and stricter credit standards. Despite these obstacles, many entrepreneurs are moving forward with plans to get much-needed financing.

In fact, 67% of U.S. small-business owners plan to pursue funding for their business within the next 12 months, according to a new NerdWallet survey conducted online by The Harris Poll among 335 small-business owners.

Accessing financing during an ever-changing economic climate, however, can be difficult and expensive. While a loan can help fund the purchase of new equipment, stock shelves, hire employees and otherwise help a business survive or even thrive, it can also become a burden if payments become overwhelming.

Here are three tips to help small-business owners find and get the most affordable capital right now.

1. Leverage your existing financial relationships

Nearly half (45%) of small-business owners plan to pursue a traditional term loan in the next 12 months — and 18% are specifically looking for a bank loan, according to the survey.

Bank business loans tend to offer long repayment terms and low interest rates, but can be difficult to qualify for — especially since lenders have tightened their credit standards over the past year. Getting a bank loan isn’t impossible, however.

Some banks, especially local or community institutions, may be more flexible with their qualification requirements or offer other benefits, like interest rate discounts, if you already have a relationship. Consider starting your bank loan search with the institution that administers your business bank account or one that has issued you a loan in the past.

2. Strengthen your application profile

With or without an existing financial relationship, applying for a small-business loan can be intimidating: 17% of small-business owners are concerned about being rejected for the funding they need for their business in the next 12 months, according to the survey. To improve your chances of approval, you can:

Build your credit score

A strong credit score shows lenders that you repay your debts. In general, the stronger your credit history, the better loan rates and terms you’ll receive. To build your credit score , you can look for errors on your credit reports and dispute them with the appropriate credit bureau, make debt payments more frequently and pay down or pay off existing debt.

Offer collateral

Traditional lenders, like banks and credit unions, may require you to secure your loan with collateral . Offering additional collateral (e.g., equipment, inventory, real estate) — or providing it when it isn’t required — can help bolster your loan application, as it offsets the risk a lender faces when working with your business.

Double-check your paperwork

When you complete a loan application, it’s important to verify all requirements and read each question carefully. Providing incorrect or outdated information can significantly slow down the application process — and sometimes result in an automatic rejection.

If you’re applying for a loan online, for instance, and the lender uses automated underwriting technology, inputting inaccurate data can trigger a rejection regardless of the strength of your credentials. Before submitting your application, it can also be helpful to ask an employee, partner or business advisor to review it.

3. Seek expert advice

Although banks remain the most common source of credit for small businesses, there are many other funding options entrepreneurs can consider, including online loans, small-business grants , and equity financing. Twenty-one percent of small-business owners, however, say understanding all of the financing options available to them is a concern for their business in the next 12 months, according to the survey.

To help guide your funding search, it can be useful to work with a free or low-cost business advisor through an organization like SCORE or your local small-business development center. Experts from these organizations can help you organize your finances, compare funding options, and even prepare and submit loan applications.

Some lenders, like community financial development institutions (CDFIs) and nonprofit organizations, offer similar advisory services, in addition to their own loan options.
