The hotel management industry is very dynamic, lively, and full of adventure as it offers individuals opportunities to explore various aspects of the hospitality industry. Whether the interest is in casino management, food service management, events management, or restaurant management, working in the business brings myriads of possibilities for an individual (Schweitzer). These are what motivate me to pursue the program - the exciting work environment, the benefits that go with it, possible travel opportunities, and career diversity and advancement. The energetic working environment will provide avenues for me to meet new people who could be my work colleagues or clients. Considering that the job also employs various people of differing nationalities, it will give me a chance to learn more about and have an appreciation of another culture. The benefits and the opportunities to travel to another location also add to the reasons why I am attracted to this field. Hotels provide wonderful bonus incentives to its employees, including discounts on rooms and special rates for holiday getaways. Especially if the hotel is located in various locales, it will allow my family, friends, and me a chance to enjoy events and personal milestones at a lower price (Pursuing a Hotel and Management Degree Can Lead to a Life of Adventure). Most importantly, a career in hotel management offers opportunities for career diversity and advancement. As hotels reach global status and open branches locally and internationally, the possibility of internal transfers allows me to explore various roles and functions within the industry. Hospitality Management Personal Statement Example

Sample statement.

My decision to follow a career in hospitality management has been prompted by work experience that I undertook during the last two summer holidays. I was initially undecided about my career choices and took the job, as an assistant to an entertainment manager on a cruise ship, to earn some extra cash.

I realised how lucky I was to have such an opportunity and to sail around the Mediterranean for 6 weeks, getting paid but I did not expect to enjoy it so much. The work was hard but the difference between this and the 9-5 Saturday job I have also done in retail could not be more marked. I was outside for much of the day, able to enjoy the sunshine and my work was all done with the intention of giving the people on the cruise their holiday of a lifetime.

Although some of the tasks were quite menial, being able to help put on competitions, run the children’s club and participate in the evening events was fantastic. Playing with the children and mixing with the guests at the dinner dances could not be described as work! I worked closely with the manager and was impressed at his ability to work long hours but still remain cheerful with his staff and the guests at all times. This rubbed off on me and I was surprised at how being enthusiastic and helpful was very satisfying, particularly when people made it obvious that they appreciated what I was doing.

After my first summer on the ship, I was eager to sign up for another and was pleased that they wanted me back. When I got home I started my college course doing A-levels in English, French and Business Studies and started to research university courses that would enable me to pursue a career in hospitality management. Working towards this well-defined goal has motivated me in my studies and I have obtained B grades in all three subjects in my AS levels. My immediate aim is to push at least two of these grades up to n ‘A’  in my A2 exams.

The subjects I chose to study were chosen based on my interest and aptitude and all are highly relevant to a degree in hospitality management. I have become much more fluent and confident in French as my work experience brought me into contact with French guests on the ship who were happy to let me practise. I realise the value of languages in the industry and have started an evening class to learn Spanish. Improving my cooking and presentation skills is also very important and I have combined this with helping my mother to run a cooking and baking skills class for teenage mothers in my local area. Next summer I have lined up an 8-week work placement with another cruise ship and this time I will be a catering assistant, so that will be a big challenge.

I feel that I have the motivation, academic and practical skills to gain a good degree in hospitality management and to then take up a career in the industry. My ambition is to own a hotel one day, or perhaps run my own cruises with a fleet of cruise ships.

As someone with a lifelong interest in cultures, people, and travel , I have always been drawn to industries where these elements intersect, which led me to the dynamic and vibrant world of hospitality. It is with this interest that I am drawn towards a degree in BA (Hons) in Hospitality Management. This field combines my passion for providing excellent service with the excitement of an industry that is constantly evolving, driven by innovation and shaped by cultural trends.

What truly thrills me about hospitality management is the opportunity to create memorable experiences for people. Whether it’s through culinary experiences that tantalize the senses or personalized guest services that make people feel valued and cared for, the hotel industry provides an outlet for creativity, innovation, and service.

My background in business studies has equipped me with essential skills such as strategic planning, financial management, and marketing, all of which I believe are foundational to effective hospitality management. In addition, I have chosen elective courses in psychology, which have provided deeper insights into understanding individuals and cultures, facilitating better guest relationship management.

To augment my academic pursuits, I have seized on opportunities to gain practical experience in hospitality. Last year, I interned at a boutique hotel in the city, where I rotated between different departments – from front office and food and beverage to events management. This gave me a firsthand understanding of hotel operations, the coordination involved in providing seamless service, and the crucial role each department plays, on its own and collectively, in delivering exceptional guest experiences.

A significant life experience that has shaped my perspective of hospitality management was a year spent studying abroad. Navigating new environments and connecting with people of diverse backgrounds provided me with valuable insights that I believe are transferrable to the multicultural and diverse operation of the hospitality industry.

On a personal level, I am proud of my ability to blend creativity and analytical thinking. For instance, during my internship , I proposed and implemented a successful initiative to enhance guest engagement by incorporating local cultural elements into daily hotel activities. The success and guest appreciation for this project bolstered my confidence in my potential as a future hospitality manager.

In terms of my suitability for this program, my excellent communication skills, attention to detail, ability to work in teams, and adaptability are but some of the skills that I feel make me an excellent candidate for this course.

Looking to the future, I aim to embark on a managerial career in the hotel industry with a focus on boutique and luxury properties. I dream of influencing hospitality trends and driving innovation in guest experiences. Include a key skills section that touches on your core competencies. Select about 8 or 9 skills that are most valuable to you as a hotel manager. Don’t worry about leaving some of your skills out. You will have the chance to show specific examples of times you have used your many skills in the career summary section of your CV.

Start by including your job title, followed by the company name or the name of the hotel you managed. Then include the location and dates of employment.

After you’ve included some initial context, detail your hotel management duties. Don’t insert your entire job description.

Recruiters don't need to know every single detail of your hotel management role. Not only would this make for a boring read, but much of the information would be redundant. Instead, draw attention to your key duties and achievements.

It’s important to highlight your skills while describing your hotel management duties and accomplishments. So, while writing your career summary, keep in mind the earlier advice about how to demonstrate your skills in this section.

However, if you achieved excellent GCSE grades, ensure to add them. Although not completely relevant, it does highlight your academic successes.

Include any additional information

The final section of your CV is for any additional information. This might include languages, IT and software skills and volunteering activities.

Which fonts and font sizes should you use in your hotel manager CV?

Always use easy-to-read fonts, such as Calibri, Time New Roman or Arial. Avoid fonts that are stylish and over-the-top. These will make your CV look unprofessional.

The ideal font size for CV writing is between 9.5 and 11.5. Anything under 9.5 will be too difficult to read. Anything over than 11.5 will appear too large.

Hotel management CVs should be two pages in length. If necessary, you can extend this to three pages, but no more than that.

Many recruiters use software called Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS) to filter and rank candidates’ CV based on specific keywords. Including these keywords can help you pass through the systems.

Keywords that are relevant to hotel management jobs include hotel management, operations management, strategic planning, business management and budget management.

Don’t shoehorn these words into your CV in bulk. This will appear unnatural and may irritate the reader. Instead, ensure they are peppered naturally throughout your CV.

ATS also scans CVs for previous employers, years’ experience and university names. So make sure you include these details in your CV.

The course I am intending to pursue is BSc (Hons) International Tourism with Hospitality Management at University of Bedfordshire. This course will help me to understand the changing nature of international tourism as well as the challenges and the rapid growth of Hospitality Management in industries. Moreover, the course will prepare me academically and professionally which will boost my career prospects. I want to do career in this field and I am pretty sure that this program will equip me with lot of tools and skills required to do so.

I am a person who has always greediness in learning. I have completed my International General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCE Ordinary Level) from Cambridge Assessment International Education, Dhaka, Bangladesh in 2018. Thereafter, I earn my International Advanced Level from Pearson Edexcel International, British Council, Bangladesh. All throughout my entire student life, I have accumulated useful knowledge, communication skills and analytical skills with various experiences. I choose to grow up my career in tourism and hospitality management because of its fast-changing, dynamic, and highly competitive field. However, my previously earned skills and knowledge’s will help me to complete my chosen course. I choose the UK as my study destination because I believe the UK is the ideal setting for refining my expertise in tourism and Hospitality management while also acquiring a broader, international viewpoint. I confident that the BSc (Hons) International Tourism with Hospitality Management programme at the University of Bedfordshire will create more opportunities for me with added knowledge and skills in addition to my current strengths.

Upon my research, I am able to know that the BSc (Hons) International Tourism with Hospitality Management is designed to meet industry needs which will play a vital role to enhance my employability. I will also be able to learn the appropriate tools and techniques, and research methods of International Tourism and Hospitality Management in an international context. Furthermore, the course maintains a professional standard of conduct and behavior which will increase my knowledge of the fundamentals of hospitality and tourism management. Getting an opportunity to study this course will open up various job role in my home country such as Hotel Manager, Travel Consultant, and Operation Manager of Hotel. I always have a keen interest in this field and I believe that my personal attributes, academic achievements make me a suitable candidate for the course.

These modules will help me to broaden my knowledge of educational and tourism with hospitality management areas on an international level. On top of this, the various assessment methods will help me to develop my critical thinking skills and enable me to gain valuable experience to use within the workplace. This has motivated me a lot to pursue this BSc course at the University of Bedfordshire. I am certain that my chosen program is right for me and that possessing this BSc degree would ensure better employment opportunities and a successful career back home. I aim to develop my career as a Hotel Manager in a well renowned tourism and hospitality sectors of my home country. I have chosen UK for pursuing my BSc (Hons) because UK is an English-speaking country and it has a rich cultural diversity. It is said that Alumni who are currently studying in UK about its environment and other things like higher quality of education and high standard of living. My home country’s learning materials are not adjusted with the latest developments. Degrees do not maintain proper standard. That’s why degrees are not internationally recognized and valued. But, UK qualification is highly regarded and most of the employers of my home country have an eye for those who have a UK degree because of the distinct curriculums and mode of education they provide. UK is home to some of the best universities in the world and are placed high in the world rankings. There is a total of 143 universities in the UK, 108 of which are in England, 19 in Scotland, 8 universities in Wales and 8 in Northern Ireland. Of the top 10 universities in the world, 4 are held by UK institutions. Owing to educational excellence of these universities, there are a total of 485,645 international students studying in the UK, representing over 100 different countries. Candidates will have the opportunity to take part in world-class research that have direct influence on many international affairs, such as vaccine research, innovative business idea development, and more. Students can choose from over 64 different subject areas, offering over 50,000 different courses. The degrees awarded by UK universities are recognized all over the world by recruiters and academics alike and most universities have a graduate employability rate of almost 90%. After considering these facts, it was not very difficult for me to choose UK as the sole target for my further studies.

I have compared University of Bedfordshire with all the alternatives and have decided this is where I would like to study. This decision is due to the university’s good reputation in teaching, research and with their industry links. University of Bedfordshire is ranked ‘Silver’ in TEF ranking. To support students the University have invested heavily in their facilities to shape the physical and intellectual environment of learning. 91% of graduates in work and/or further study within six months of graduating (DLHE 2018). Moreover, the University have campuses with excellent facilities. Tutors are highly-qualified academic and most of them have received National Teaching Fellowship Awards. Moreover, The University of Bedfordshire is a member of The Association for Tourism in Higher Education (ATHE) which is the subject association for tourism in higher education in the UK. It would be a great achievement for me if I get the opportunity to study at the University of Bedfordshire.

Begin with your most recent role and work backwards.

If you’re a seasoned hotel manager and boast decades of experience, you don’t need to talk in detail about every role you’ve ever had.

Focus on your most recent and relevant experience and shorten down the description for your older roles, as shown in the example CV.

Structuring your roles

Your work experience section is likely to be lengthy, but listing it in a huge, uninterrupted block of text is a massive turn-off to recruiters.

Use this role structure explained below to allow them to pick out key information and navigate between roles with ease.

Begin by sharing a brief outline of the role, including the type of hotel, the sizes/types of teams you led and the budgets managed.

Create a bullet-pointed list of your daily duties and responsibilities within the position.

Recruiters in the hospitality value experience over everything else, but it’s still important to mention your qualifications.

Begin with your highest, relevant qualification and work backwards. Vocational qualifications, courses or certifications should be included too, providing they’re relevant to the industry.

Make sure to include the name of the qualification (e.g. BA Business Management or BTEC Travel and Tourism ), the name of the institution and the year you completed it.

Hobbies and interests

You may wish to note down your hobbies and interests at the very bottom of your CV, but this section is optional.

If you have an interesting hobby which demonstrates skills related to the hospitality industry, such as organising charity events, it could add further value to your application.
