Being product-centered isn’t one of them. Or simply focusing on your sales pitch won’t do the trick.

The good news: You can influence how prospects perceive these gains and losses. One of the best ways to prove value is to contrast life before and after your product.

Luckily, there’s a three-step formula for that.

  • Before → Here’s your world…
  • After → Imagine what it would be like if…
  • Bridge → Here’s how to get there.

Start with a vivid description of the pain, present an enviable world where that problem doesn’t exist, then explain how to get there using your tool.

It’s super simple, and it works for cold emails , drip campaigns , and sales discovery decks. Basically anywhere you need to get people excited about what you have to say.

In fact, a lot of companies are already using this formula to great success. The methods used in the sales presentation examples below will help you do the same.

We’re all drawn to happiness. A study at Harvard tells us that emotion is contagious .

You’ll notice that the “Before” (pre-Digital Age) pictures in Facebook’s slides all display neutral faces. But the cover slide that introduces Facebook and the “After” slides have smiling faces on them.

This is important. The placement of those graphics is an intentional persuasion technique.

Studies by psychologists show that we register smiles faster than any other expression. All it takes is 500 milliseconds (1/20th of a second). And when participants in a study were asked to recall expressions, they consistently remembered happy faces over neutral ones.

What to do about it : Add a happy stock photo to your intro and “After” slides, and keep people in “Before” slides to neutral expressions.

Tactic #1: Use Simple Graphics

Use simple graphics to convey meaning without text.

Example: Slide 2 is a picture of a consumer’s hand holding an iPhone — something we can all relate to.

Why It Works: Pictures are more effective than words — it’s called  Picture Superiority . In presentations, pictures help you create connections with your audience. Instead of spoon-feeding them everything word for word, you let them interpret. This builds trust.

Tactic #2: Use Icons

Use icons to show statistics you’re comparing instead of listing them out.

Example: Slide 18 uses people icons to emphasize how small 38 out of 100 people is compared to 89 out of 100.

Why It Works:  We process visuals 60,000 times faster than text.

Tactic #3: Include Statistics

Include statistics that tie real success to the benefits you mention.

Example: “71% lift driving visits to retailer title pages” (Slide 26).

Why It Works:  Precise details prove that you are telling the truth.

Just like how you can’t drive from Marin County to San Francisco without the Golden Gate, you can’t connect a “Before” to an “After” without a bridge.

Uber’s headlines in Slides 2-9 tailor the “After” picture to specific pain points. As a result, there’s no need to explicitly state a “Before.”

Sales presentations are the cornerstone of many companies’ sales efforts, yet so often they aren’t given the time and attention they deserve. Thrown together at the last-minute, often your sales reps stand up in front of a sales presentation that’s nothing more than a glorified page of notes.

The right sales presentation can be the Excalibur to your rep’s King Arthur. But if you’re sending your troops into battle with a wooden sword, they won’t be terribly successful – or do much dragon-slaying for that matter.

Outside of the telephone and email (and CRM), what’s the most important sales tool in most B2B companies? After careful consideration, I think it’s PowerPoint: salespeople use presentations all the time when talking to prospects.

What is a sales presentation: A sales presentation is a talk which promotes a product or service that you are trying to sell, which includes illustrative material such as slides, sketches, or props.

  • Can most reps use PowerPoint properly?
  • Can most marketing departments use it well?
  • Are most reps given adequate slide decks to sell with?
  • Do most reps have the content to enable great visual sales conversations?
  • Are reps still wasting good leads by inflicting ‘Death by PowerPoint’?

The problem: How many opportunities do you create each month? Think about how valuable those opportunities are – not just in terms of whether you have enough of them, but also your cost per opportunity – all that marketing spend that gets you face-to-face with a prospect. And then how much did you spend on your sales presentation – the sales tool that helps tell your sales story and communicate value to prospects? For a lot of companies, it’s nothing.

People must think that creating sales tools is easy. Just open PowerPoint and type some bullet points to get your message across. Maybe if you’re feeling fancy, ask a graphic designer to take a look.

Never mind that arming your sales teams to read bullet points (even pretty bullet points) won’t work.

Never mind that the same techniques that work for a charismatic speaker talking to 1000 people at a conference don’t work when your average sales rep is delivering their sales presentation to four people from a laptop.

Why change: The figures on how buyers feel about sales people and sales meetings suggest a communication failure:  just 22% feel that sales people understand their issues and how they can offer value ( Forrester ). Looking at the sales presentations that many companies use confirms the same view: this isn’t an area that marketing has mastered.

Improving conversion rates at the bottom of the funnel is equivalent to sourcing many more ‘sales-accepted leads’ or finding 1000s more prospects. For this reason, improving your sales presentations is one of the most impactful things that a marketing team can do .

If your sales tools aren’t persuasive and compelling, if your sales people are spending time creating their own clandestine collateral, or if your conversion rates are too low – you need to do something different.

A PowerPoint sales pitch allows you both to capture the messages you want to present to prospects (straight from the minds of your best sales people) and to distribute these messages in a way that others can use too. So how do we make sure we write a good presentation?

Always prepare properly: I’m going to begin with a disclaimer – creating an effective sales presentation takes hours. Before you even open PowerPoint, there’s a whole pile of stuff that it’s better to know beforehand: content, length, who will be presenting, how complex will your slides be, will you use icons or pictures, colour scheme, deadlines…and the list goes on.

You see, you can’t just make a sales tool and then throw it over the fence to the sales team. You need to work with them to find out what they need. When do they talk to prospects? What messages are they trying to articulate? What objections are they seeing? Where are competitors gaining ground? In summary, what conversations are sales people having that visual slides could support?

Gathering this kind of information does (and should) take time – and it’s definitely worth investing in it to do it properly.

The voice of the customer is often missing in sales messaging.  The solution? Just ask customers why they buy from you, or what you do that they value. Better yet, ask them what challenges  they  face (in your field of influence); now you can start to identify opportunities – areas where they need help but where you don’t currently have competitive advantage.

One word of caution though. Stated preferences and revealed preferences aren’t the same. Just because customers say they want something, doesn’t mean that they do. Offer them a real choice of products, and see what they choose – that’s a revealed preference.

To acquire new –  different  – customers, it makes sense to talk to those who  aren’t  currently buying from you, not just those who are. They may have different thoughts, value different things, and have a different view of your competitive strengths.

Here are some good questions to find the answers to:

  • What are your prospects doing now?
  • What do you want them to do?
  • What are they thinking now?
  • What do you want them to think?
  • How are they feeling now?
  • How do you want them to feel?

With all this data gathering done, you can move on – no, not to PowerPoint – to understanding what kind of a change you want your prospects to make, and then with that knowledge, you can set clear (and SMART ) sales presentation objectives.

Sales presentation objectives: Setting the wrong goals – unrealistic goals – for your sales presentation won’t help you. Before you work out what to say, you need to be clear about what you are trying to achieve with a sales presentation or sales conversation.

There are plenty of possible objectives, beyond making the sale immediately:

  • To be invited to respond to a tender
  • To be down-selected to the next round of a bidding process
  • To be allowed to help write the tender
  • To be invited back to meet with the decision maker
  • For the prospect to meet with your technical consultant
  • To get permission to run a study
  • For your prospect to start a trial
  • For your prospect to commit to a technical evaluation.

There are dozens of things you might want or need en-route to a sale. Be very clear about what you are trying to achieve  before  you write your sales presentation.

Understanding who you are competing with – in terms of how prospects are currently approaching the issues that you address – is fundamental to your sales messaging. If your sales messaging is directed against other companies, but your prospects aren’t even aware that they have a problem, or are thinking in terms of whether to keep on doing things in-house, you are selling the wrong thing.

There is one crucial question you need to ask:

Who are you competing with?

  • Are you competing with the status quo or apathy?
  • Are you competing with a DIY approach to solving the problem?
  • Are you competing with solving the problem in a different way?
  • Are you competing with companies you recognise as competitors?
  • Are you competing with companies that you don’t even recognise as competitors?

‘Why change’ vs. ‘Why us’

Sales messages when selling a category ( ‘Why change? ’, whether to buy) should be different from those used when selling a particular solution (‘ Why us? ’, which one to buy).

  • Have they decided to change, or do you need to persuade them?
  • Do they know what category of solution they are looking for, or is that still open?
  • Have they got established decision-making criteria, or can you shape their thinking?
  • Will they talk to other companies, or could you win this before anyone else is involved?

Why change: At the start of the sales cycle, prospects might not be aware that they have a problem. They might not recognise that a problem they have can be solved. They could have no knowledge of the market you are in, or the vendors who might want to help them. At this stage, messaging needs to focus on bringing out the problems that they have , and all the messy implications. Fear of change, and a certain inertia are the main obstacle to overcome. You need to make it very clear that the prospect has a problem – if they realise it or not – and that the problem is hurting them – perhaps in subtle ways – but it is hurting.

Why us: Once a prospect acknowledges they have a problem, they start to try and find somebody who can help them to solve it. At this point, messaging needs to answer the question ‘Why us?’.

There’s no single way to structure a sales meeting or a sales presentation – as you move through the sales cycle, different things are required. At the very first meeting, you are likely to be fact-finding, exploring whether your company’s solutions are a good fit for the prospect, and discovering what challenges they feel most urgently. At a best-and-final pitch presentation, you may be responding to an entirely prescriptive meeting agenda, with scoring on how well you answer certain questions.

Here are a few good starting points to make sure, at whatever point you are in the sales cycle, your content is always structured in a compelling way.

How not to structure: Did you ever notice how a journey seems to take longer when you don’t know how far you have to go? Sales presentations are the same.

Those sales presentations that  do  make the structure visible – by using agendas – usually make the mistake of using headings that mean more to the presenter than the audience, or that are so dry that they do absolutely nothing to help sell.

Focus on the benefits: One way to make an audience-centred agenda is to think in terms of benefits: what’s in it for your audience. Don’t make the mistake of only talking about benefits in a summary slide right at the end of your presentation. The benefit slide can be used as an agenda that appears as a segue between sections.

This benefit slide ought to be written to answer the key question around which the sales presentation revolves – Why Change? or Why Us? We call this the value proposition – for more great insights on writing value propositions, take a look at this article . Value propositions help us in three ways:

  • The advantages or benefits are stated early enough to be noticed
  • The agenda is now audience-focused, not product-focused
  • By showing a slide with the benefits multiple times during  your presentation, you help your audience to remember your key points

Now that’s a powerful and persuasive presentation structure!

How to write your value proposition: Though it may seem like a dark art, writing a value proposition is something anyone can do. There’s quite a simple formula that you can use:

  • Decide whether you are answering ‘Why change?’ or ‘Why us?’
  • List the three to five best answers to the question
  • Create a slide that shows these answers
  • Use that slide as an agenda to help structure your sales presentation, and show it each time you segue from one section to the next
  • Arrange your content into sections according to the benefits or advantages they support. Typically, you might want a few slides in each section.
  • Use the agenda slide to close the presentation

How many points should a value proposition have: Value propositions should be comprised of 3-5 statements about what your solution or type of solution offers. Any more becomes harder to remember. Any less can fail to structure the presentation content effectively and memorably.

In this  fascinating article  reporting on research by  Weaver et al in the Journal of Consumer Research , Heidi Halvorson points out that adding additional arguments doesn’t always help. If a value proposition has three very strong sections, adding an additional section that’s weaker (but still valid) actually dilutes the overall strength of the argument.

How to write a value proposition statement: Value proposition statements work best if they are of similar length and format. If one item is a single word (‘flexible’) and another is a long phrase (‘standards compliant for SIA accreditation’), it often looks and sounds awkward.

The best way to get the phrasing right is to note a question that the value proposition answers, and format all items to work with that question. So, for example:

  • Why change?  ‘You should change in this way because you will get ___’
  • Why us? ‘Choose us because we offer ___’

Category vs. solution: When selling the category , the key messages of your sales presentation will typically be made up of benefits, and focus on what your prospects will get if they try a new approach – ‘increase turnover’, ‘reduce risk’, or ‘improve efficiency’.

When selling your  solution , the key messages (or value proposition) will typically be made up of advantages that your product or service has over competing alternatives. If you used benefits here, there’s a risk that competing solutions would all just say the same thing, and you wouldn’t be able to differentiate.

Ordering your value proposition: Once you know your value proposition, you need to decide on the right order for your sections. Many presenters fail to look at structure from the audience’s point of view, and, as such, they make incorrect assumptions about what should go where. Stop and imagine you’re seeing this content for the very first time. What do you need to know first? What is the logical order to approach and take in these points? Opt for logic and simplicity and you won’t go far wrong.

Interactive presentations – let your audience choose: One way to structure a sales presentation is to do something interactive – non-linear. That means you can have a conversation without any pre-determined flow, and show things in response to the way in which the sales conversation develops.

Break your content up into smaller chunks – a few minutes of material at a time. Switch between topics of conversation based on what your audience says to you. So, instead of a single presentation with 30 slides, think more in terms of six topics with five slides in each. You might use some of them, or all of them. You might present them in a different order each time. The point is that you have a conversation and respond to what you are hearing.

A lot of presentations we see are very front-heavy: the presenter talks for slides and slides about the company, about their amazing product, and about why you would obviously want to be a part of what they’ve got going on. The trouble is – I’m sorry – no-one cares.

The problem: Often sales presentations are written from the point of view of Product Marketing, and not the audience. If the first few slides are about ‘ My Company ’, ‘ Company Structure ’, ‘ Company History ’, ‘ Office Locations ’, and ‘ Revenue by Division ’ – chances are the audience is getting bored before the presenter even gets started.

They already know about your company, from your website. You don’t need to build credibility – they accepted the appointment. And it wastes precious time… Why spend the first five minutes of your sales presentation talking about you, when they want to know what you can do for them. It will just risk boring them, and ensure that attention levels plummet before you get going.

The solution: The start of a sales presentation should be interesting. That means encouraging reps to stop playing 20 questions, stop talking about the size of their company, and start challenging prospects to see the world in new ways. Explain  why  something is an important issue, and why current attempts to solve the problem don’t and won’t work.

Your sales presentation introduction ought to build credibility – but the way to do that is by showing that you  understand the prospect’s challenges , that the standard ways of meeting these challenges don’t work, and that  the prospect may need to do things differently .

Many people you present to will not be inclined to care about what you are saying until you give them a really good reason to. Don’t just tell customers what they  want  to hear. Educate them , and tell them what you think they  need  to hear. Challenger reps ought to deliver a teaching pitch: ‘A teaching pitch makes customers feel sort of sick about all the money they’re wasting, or revenue they’re missing, or risk they’re unknowingly exposed to.’ (p.67)

A  successful teaching pitch  in your introduction will be more useful than five minutes about your company history and office locations shown on a map.

Once you have created a structure for your presentation based around ‘Why change?’ or ‘Why us?’ you need to create the content to go into each section. You have the answer to the big, overarching question about why prospects should choose your solution – now you have to prove it.

There are loads of different ways to prove the overarching sales claims that you make:

  • Do you have any unique features that provide unique advantages? Are there any performance figures that show that you can deliver benefits more effectively than others?
  • Do you do things in a different way, or have a unique process that delivers better results?
  • Have you won any important awards or been judged a leader by independent industry analysts?
  • Do you have particularly impressive case studies or testimonials that back-up your claims?

‘New’ content: You can’t just repeat what’s written on your website  – they’ve already seen it. You need at least some content that’s somewhat new. There’s an argument that holding back some messages for use by sales (and  not  by marketing) helps in the creation of a sales presentation.

Section length: Keep sections relatively short and reasonably paced – to ensure that attention levels don’t drop off too fast.

Targeting competitors: It can make sense to create targeted sales messaging aimed at taking customers from a certain competitor. Work out what these customers want, what they are unhappy with, and what you can do better. You don’t need to mention competitors by name if you don’t want to – but think about what major competitors do badly, particularly if they have problems that you have solved.

Make the most of your best content: Don’t save your best content until the end as the audience might have stopped listening before you ever show it.

All killer, no filler: Don’t let your presentation have a ‘boring bit’. If you think it does, you need to tighten the content. Sorry, not sorry: When you’re delivering your presentation you need to be assertive. Don’t apologise for taking people’s time. Don’t apologise for your content. Don’t apologise for yourself. The more you give your audience excuses, the more you give them excuses not to listen and take note of what you say. Even if you’re not a hugely confident person, you can still give a good presentation. In fact if you’d call yourself an introvert, you might want to have a look at this .

‘We’ vs. ‘You’: Old-fashioned sales presentations are all about what the presenter’s company does. ‘We’ this, ‘we’ that, ‘we’ the other. In terms of the message, and also in terms of delivery, the audience is left thinking that the presenter is a narcissist, and only somewhat relevant. Talk about ‘you’ the audience, use ‘ you phrasing ’, and the audience will start to see how what you are offering applies to them.

Wave goodbye to the waffle: Keep things interesting by providing only relevant information. Refer back to important points throughout the presentation to help facilitate understanding.

Something missing: If you don’t have the right slide, blank the screen with the ‘B’ key (fade to black) or ‘W’ key (fade to white) and draw something. Or just talk instead.

Humour vs. passion: Be careful with humour in a presentation – it’s not always appropriate and needs to be handled carefully. Passion however, is rarely out of place – and is something that can make a real difference. Don’t be afraid to show that passion, your enthusiasm, and even your excitement when speaking to prospects. If it is genuine, it will make an impact. If you think something is great, say that it is great.

Train your reps: If you can manage it, think about training. If you are providing an awesome new sales presentation, consider actually training your reps to use it. This sort of practical training goes down well with sales people – people who would rather learn to deliver  their  particular presentation than sit through soft skills training on stuff like body language.

Consider an on-demand version of your slides: Buyers want information – but not all buyers can meet with your sales people. In this world of complex sales and collaborative buying – let your supporters sell on your behalf by providing an on-demand version of your sales presentation for busy buyers to view. Consider recording a narrated version of your slides, or add some labels to the slides that you presented so that they make sense to someone who wasn’t there to hear how you presented them. Your sales presentation can’t be just a one-way conversation. You should aim at building relationships with your prospect. A call to action (CTA) actually extends the life of your sales presentation, whereby you give them something to think about…and come back. 

In your call to action, offer your prospect one or two next steps. Just ensure it is short, straightforward, and personal. A sales presentation doesn’t end at the last slide and a polite ‘Goodbye.’ You should be sure your prospect has got the idea right, has no questions to ask, and is satisfied with how a presentation went. So, at this final step, we recommend that you do the following:

Ask yourself a series of questions about your performance. These could include:

  • ‘Have I identified my prospect’s problem and offered solutions?’

Then, he stands up from his chair and goes over to a map covered with hundreds of yellow pins, and he reveals that each pin represents a student earning over $1,000 per month with their blog. 

Right off the bat he has established credibility and intrigue. He’s proven that he delivers his promise to his customers time and time again. An act of showmanship like this to begin a presentation is perfect for hooking your prospects. After showing them the promised land and the people who’ve gotten there, Ricky then gives them a four-minute tour of the best features of the course. Finally, he goes over how to sign up for the course and asks his prospects to do it.

Online blogging course sales presentation example

The major takeaway from this example is the power of props and showmanship to illustrate a point. As Ricky did with the yellow pins, find ways to support your claims with some sort of visual element. Your presentation hit the audience with more force. 

Online Coding Course Sales Presentation Example 

Here’s another online course presentation — it's shorter than the last one and the presenter takes a slightly different approach. He first demonstrates his expertise by showing the many books he’s written on the subject. After gaining the lead’s trust, he explains how this coding course is different from the others out there. In this course, students won’t have to learn computer science and can start building things almost immediately. 

Next, the sales rep reviews the benefits of taking the course, which in this case manifest as the coding tasks that students will learn to do. About three-quarters the way in, he drops the biggest value proposition: he'll teach them how to write programs that automate their busy work and increase their productivity. In case anyone isn’t interested in that, he also adds that coding is fun and will improve critical thinking skills. To finish, he asks leads to sign up for his course.

Note how this presenter first establishes how this coding course is different from and better than the others out there. In your presentations, consider bringing up complaints customers have with your competition and then showing them why that won’t happen with your business. 

B2B SaaS Sales Presentation Example  

In this presentation, Neil Patel presents Keap, an email marketing tool. The presentation is technically a customer testimonial since he’s a user and not the company’s salesperson, but it still comes off as a well-constructed sales presentation for nurturing qualified leads . Neil begins in the classic manner — describing some major pain points for marketers — before introducing the product as the solution to those issues. 

Next, he explains some ways that he uses the software and the benefits he receives. For example, one use case he gives is the ability to set up automated text messages to follow up with prospects to increase the closing rates and give salespeople more time to focus on other prospects. Because it’s a testimonial video, it’s missing a call-to-action, but besides that piece, it’s a presentation worthy of emulation.

Something you should definitely consider emulating from this presentation is the structure — problem, solution, benefits — that he employs to hook and convince the reader to buy the tool. It works for every industry and type of sale. 

Proptech Sales Presentation Example

The presenters begin by stating their goal — to show property managers why mobile inspection technology makes resident move-ins and move-outs painless. Next, the two salespeople introduce themselves as experts in the field and the product, HappyCo, as a useful tool for powering property operations. Then they lay out the agenda for the presentation, before embarking on a respectful critique of a current way of doing business, paper inspections. 

To bolster their case, they show quotes from customers explaining how paper inspections hurt their business. One complained that their maintenance staff used to fix resident-caused damage without documenting it, thereby making it impossible to charge the resident. After proving the problems with paper methods, the presenter dives into the product and its benefits and another team member even gives a live software demo. It ends with questions and answers.

Including product demos in your presentations is a powerful tactic. And it doesn’t necessarily have to be a live demo either. For example, you could record videos of people using your product or software and then show those to help your audience make sense of how it works. 

Marketing Software Sales Presentation Examples

The presenter begins by introducing the tool, Mention, and tells her audience how it works in plain language. Next she uses a slide titled “What can I do with Mention?” and explains the three major use-cases of the tool and the resulting benefits. She then uses her next slides to give a deeper explanation of each of the three major use-cases she introduced in that first slide. 

She then switches out of her slide deck and into a live demo. This is typical of software sales presentations. She spends the next 15 minutes showing her leads how to set up competitor tracking and how to analyze the data collected to discover insights that help them get a competitive advantage in their industry. After the demo, she switches back to slides and reviews the key takeaways, and asks interested viewers to schedule a personalized demo.

Although the presenter doesn’t begin with a problem, she does mention how each feature solves specific pain points when she’s presenting their benefits. Something she did that you could apply to your presentations is summarizing your presentation before making the call-to-action. This gets your audience thinking about how valuable your solution is, so they’re more likely to agree to the next steps when you make your ask.

CRM Sales Presentation Example

This presenter, a HubSpot certified partner, starts by introducing a problem for many marketers — they have too many tools in their tech stack and things are messy. After spending some time with that problem, he introduces HubSpot, saying that “the antidote to complexity is organization.” The salesperson then describes HubSpot as a centralized communication platform, meaning that every app and software connects through it. It’s, in essence, a hub. 

He then tells his viewers that this means data that used to be siloed off in different platforms all becomes available in HubSpot, and explains the awesome things that this allows users to do, like gain lead intelligence, automate tasks, run analyses, and handle ad attribution. Throughout the presentation, he uses screenshots of the software to add clarity to his feature explanations. It ends with him going over pricing plans and asking leads to call him to learn more.

This presenter does a great job of presenting a problem and analyzing it in a way that makes him sound like an expert and evokes feelings of hatred for the problem in his audience. In your presentations, elaborate on the negative consequences of the problem you choose to mention. This aggravates the pain and makes prospects more eager to eliminate it. 

Legal Tech Sales Presentation Example 

In this sales presentation, Cory from LawYaw, a legal tech company, presents their document automation software and explains why it will help lawyers save time and improve productivity. After a short introduction, he sets an agenda, and a slide gives us the outline, which is worth zooming in on because it’s a great example of a persuasive structure. To begin, he discusses some new trends in the legal space and shares some opportunities to profit from these trends. 

After establishing himself as knowledgeable in the industry, he analyzes a big problem for his buyers — document rejection — and lists its costs. After establishing the magnitude of the key issue, he positions document automation as a solution, explains how it works, and names its biggest benefits. To boost credibility, he also uses a customer success story. Next, he changes from a sales deck to a live demo, before rounding out the presentation with a Q&A session.

The agenda portion of his presentation is something you should consider incorporating into your own presentations. By providing an outline of what you’ll cover, you’re telling them what to expect, and giving them a pleasing sense of control over the experience. 

B2C Tech Product Sales Presentation Example

This next sales presentation example portrays Melody, an Apple salesperson, introducing the new iPad (the second half of the video is a presentation for the iPad Pro). During the first two minutes, Melody goes over the new design, showing images of the phone. She discusses the new features and their benefits, including a new front camera placement, which is better for video calls (something her leads are likely using their iPads for).

At the two and half minute mark, she hands the reins to her partner, Mish, who explains another improvement to the hardware: a new keyboard called Magic Keyboard Folio. He then names some features and benefits, like “full-size keys, one millimeter of travel, and a responsive feel.” To finish, Melody lists the price and reviews why this product is so unique and valuable.

Note that whenever the second presenter names a feature, he almost always follows it with a benefit. The result almost always impresses a prospect more than how it was achieved. To really drive home the importance of your features, immediately state how they will positively impact the person’s business, job, or life. 

B2C SaaS Sales Presentation Example

Although this is a pitch to investors, the Brand Yourself owners use a sales deck and stay close to the ideal structure of a sales presentation. They start with a strong hook in the form of a story about their typical user. They tell the story of a young man fresh out of college who is highly qualified but still struggling to get a job because of his major issue, namely, that employers are researching him online and finding unflattering photos of him partying, of “gap year Steve.”

The sales duo uses their sales deck responsibly throughout the presentation, especially above, where they show a picture to get some laughs and get their buyers in a good mood. After sharing this story, they explain the major problem afflicting applicants today — bad online reputations, and then introduce their tool and how it works, using slide deck images to show the buyers. In the end, they state its value proportion: protects and improves how you look online.

B2C SaaS sales presentation example

If you copy one thing from this presentation, it should be their use of humor to set the mood. Provided that the setting isn’t too professional, consider introducing a few jokes at the beginning. Jokes not only lighten the mood, but they also make your audience more likely to pay attention closely, because you’ve primed them to think that they might get another laugh. 

Freelance Photographer Sales Presentation Example

This is a short yet persuasive presentation in which a freelance real estate photographer shares reasons why leads should hire him as their photographer. He begins by introducing himself and his business and then previews for his prospects what they’ll learn in this presentation. Then he starts listing the reasons for hiring him. Most of them are valuable differentiators that set him apart from the competition. For example, his customers receive free property websites. 

They can use these website links to easily promote their listing across social media and other channels. Near the end of the presentation, he starts to show his prospects some great photographs he’s taken for past clients, all the while explaining why people who use professional photographers are more likely to sell their houses than people who don’t. To close out, he asks his audience members to call him, and puts his phone number up on the screen.

Differentiators help your business stand out from the crowd. They can be the reason a prospect chooses you over a competitor. So, when you can, follow this presenter’s lead and list valuable services or features that you provide but other companies don’t. 

Freelance Writer Sales Presentation Example

Here’s another great example for freelancers. The structure of this sales presentation is pretty simple. The presenter goes over ten reasons to hire him. They range from his being recognized by Microsoft as a valuable service provider to his transparency about pricing and process. Each reason gets anywhere from 20-30 seconds of elaboration and an image or two to emphasize his points. For instance, he displays his Microsoft certificate on the screen when talking about it.

After sufficiently proving that he has expertise, credibility, reliability, and other qualities potential clients are looking for in a writer, he closes the presentation with a clear call-to-action. He tells his leads to head over to the Contact page on his website and fill out the Contact form to get in touch.

Freelance writer sales presentation example

Although it’s a setup without much flair, the salesperson’s main points, along with the easygoing and confident attitude with which he delivers them, should entice potential buyers to reach out. One thing he nails is establishing himself as an expert in the field. Sprinkle in credibility indicators like education, credentials, and awards throughout your presentations to give your words and claims a bit more weight.  

Real Estate Agent Listing Sales Presentation Example

The mock sales presentation starts at the 2:20 minute mark when the listing agent begins his mission to convince a pretend homeowner to hire him as their agent. He first hints at his company’s successful track record and then explains their home selling process, which, among other methods, consists of taking magazine-grade photography and marketing the home on YouTube, email, and print marketing. He always explains the benefits of each strategy. 

Then he drops what is probably the biggest value-add for his prospects — the fact that 33,000 people in Colorado subscribe to the magazine Colorado Homes, where he will advertise the house and it will get tremendous exposure. He continues to go over other strategies he’ll use to attract people to the house before executing a persuasive closing minute and asking the customer if they want to talk more about marketing their home.

Real estate agent listing sales presentation example

The best part of this sales presentation is his close. His voice drips with confidence, and he previews the call-to-action with a reminder of what separates him from other listing agents. Then he says, “So shall I pack my things up and leave or do you want to talk more about the marketing of your home?” Try to match his assertive style when making your CTAs.  

Car Sales Presentation Example 

In this sales presentation, a Subaru sales rep presents the new Impreza model to a large audience. He begins by appealing to the greatness of the Impreza tradition, stating that “value, safety, and longevity, are the calling cards for Impreza.” He explains that this car will stay true to the tradition, and then explores what makes this one distinct, and better than, former Imprezas — the fact that it's sportier and more fun to drive. 

He then anticipates an objection about switching from sedan to hatchback, and deals with it by promising that this allows for a sportier design package and a roomier interior. Next, he goes over some other new features, and gets the audience to imagine all the places the car can take them (ski trips, camp, etc.) before invoking a metaphor and calling it “a modern-day swiss army knife.” Overall, this presentation is a great example of how to evoke desire with words.

Anticipating concerns and hesitations your prospect might have and then proving why they’re unsound, as this presenter does brilliantly, is a great technique to use in your sales presentations. Consider picking the three sales objections you hear most often and rebutting them where it makes the most sense in the presentation. For instance, if people always question a feature’s functionality, deal with that objection right after presenting the feature. 

Wholesale Sales Presentation Example

In this filmed mock sales presentation, Mary, a wholesaler for a golf products company, presents to an owner of a golf retail store. She begins with small talk about golf and local clubs, which is a surefire avenue for connection seeing that her lead owns a golf store. After about a minute, she stops the chit-chat and sets the agenda, making sure to ask him if he agrees to it. Typically, the seller would’ve already interviewed the lead on a previous meeting or discovery call . Despite that variation, the rest follows a more typical structure. She introduces the services and their value to him as a retailer. Then she reviews promotions like a military discount, the margin (32%). And, lastly, they negotiate the deal and come to an agreement.

Small talk is a great way to get your prospect into a good and trusting mood before you start presenting. The best way to kickstart it is with open-ended questions. Consider doing some research about your prospect beforehand and coming up with 1-2 personalized questions based on their hobbies, job responsibilities, etc., For example, you might say “I noticed you used to work in finance — what made you switch to marketing?” 

Consumer Product Sales Presentation Example

This sales presentation example from Shark Tank’s archives displays a consumer product entrepreneur pitching a high-tech sponge called Scrub Daddy. While it’s not a presentation in a traditional sense, and instead a pitch to investors, there’s still a lot to learn from it, primarily, the art of showmanship. To begin, Aaron briefly introduces his product, holding one in each hand, as “the cutest but most high-tech scrubbing tool in the world.” This piques the viewers’ interest.

Next, he shares the unique selling proposition — that the sponge changes texture according to the water temperature. To illustrate, he immerses one sponge in hot water and the other in cold water for a few seconds. After taking them out, he pounds on each with a 10-pound weight. The hot one is like a rock, while the soft one squeezes under the weight.

For salespeople, the main takeaway here is to find interesting ways to quickly demo your product mid-presentation. You can demo it on your slides or in person. Instead, never mind his slightly less than Powerful Sales Presentation, after the first 10 minutes of his weary efforts I was sorely tempted to have him frogmarched off the premises.

There are so many ways that presentations can be crafted to take their audiences with them – even when the audience might indeed be initially resistant. To actually create resistance in someone who was initially very receptive to the product, takes a real lack of awareness and the use of a poorly crafted and badly written presentation.

I wanted to tell the poor man how I felt, after all, it is a professional passion but just as I was trying to find a tactful way to do so he had to rush off to inflict the same experience on his next victim.

The facts are that he was very personable, very persuasive over the telephone and still was for the first few minutes before he switched on his laptop.

And So His Sins Were?

  • He insisted on following his pre-programmed structure, even though the first slides were irrelevant to me.
  • His slides were mostly cram-packed with bullet points of the text.
  • The ones that weren’t text used poor quality graphics and tried to be ‘whizzy’.
  • From a visual perspective, let’s just say a nightmare. There was no logical structure, nothing to help me navigate the journey.
  • Some of the language felt patronising.
  • Lots of the detail was superfluous this was after all a visual aid, intended to support our conversation, not a show for us both to watch on a small screen
  • Company mantras and logos crowded out any chance of clarity there might have been.
  • Every slide looked the same actually not true.
  • He abdicated responsibility and went into Sales PowerPoint auto-pilot thinking that it was stronger than he was. I felt presented at.

All About Him

I wanted to scream. I didn’t. I sat politely, albeit looking decidedly cheesed off. I’m sure he just felt I was normally that quiet; noncommittal – my middle name.

Those involved in sales are usually already strong people-people able to build rapport quickly and be conscious of their style in terms of securing deals, which their clients will also perceive to be valuable to them.

Apart from their personal strengths to close the deal, many of those who work within sales often use presentations as their trusted steed.

We are not talking here about all the things salespeople do before, during and after they use their PowerPoint presentation, we are just focussing here on the tool, as a supporting visual aid to you and your sales pitch.

We know for many professional sales teams, their PowerPoint sales presentations are a vitally important element in the sales process.

Does It Do the Job?

The key question is:

  • Does your steed do the job?
  • Is it really up to it?
  • Is it a really powerful sales presentation?

Note that I avoided saying that it may be ready to be put down. As an animal lover, I prefer to avoid the metaphor. Nevertheless, what is all too often the case, it may benefit from a bit more careful attention.

We know for some that closing the deal means showing their clients every slide in the right order each slide’s content faithfully shared.

Let’s face it, some busy sales teams have to use generic presentations. Sometimes these were created by a fellow colleague in the mists of time or someone who isn’t even in your department. Sometimes, quite frankly, its logic may be totally lost to you. Sometimes it may include slide after slide of bullet-pointed text, or else it is packed with so much information you could hyperventilate just by looking at them.

Make It Compelling

You may need to reconsider whether the content of your sales presentation is really powerful. Is there a compelling story or journey to take your clients on? Could there be? What would entice them to stay with you? How does each slide work? In fact, through every aspect of your sales pitch, where are the hooks and the bridges?

So when closing the deal is so important to all of us in the world of business again whether we interpret the sale of a product, service or idea to clients or colleagues why wouldn’t you want to spend time looking at ways to develop, freshen up and finesse your next powerful sales presentation.

What is Eid al-Fitr? 6 questions about the holiday and how Muslims celebrate it, answered

Ken Chitwood  is a senior research fellow, Muslim Philanthropy Initiative at Indiana University–Purdue University Indianapolis and journalist-fellow at the Dornsife Center for Religion and Civic Culture at the  University of Southern California Dornsife College of Letters, Arts and Sciences .

Eid al-Fitr, one of Islam's principal festivals, will be celebrated April 9, 2024, according to the Fiqh Council of North America . At the middle of June, Muslims will celebrate Eid al-Adha. Ken Chitwood, a scholar of global Islam, explains the two Islamic festivals.

1. What is Eid?

Eid literally means a "festival" or "feast" in Arabic. There are two major eids in the Islamic calendar per year – Eid al-Fitr earlier in the year and Eid al-Adha later.

Eid al-Fitr is a three-day-long festival and is known as the "Lesser" or "Smaller Eid" when compared to Eid al-Adha, which is four days long and is known as the "Greater Eid."

2. Why is Eid celebrated twice a year?

The two Eids recognize, celebrate and recall two distinct events that are significant to the story of Islam.

Eid al-Fitr means "the feast of breaking the fast." The fast, in this instance, is Ramadan , which recalls the revealing of the Quran to Prophet Muhammad and requires Muslims to fast from sunrise to sundown for a month.

3. How do Muslims celebrate Eid al-Fitr?

Eid al-Fitr features two to three days of celebrations that include special morning prayers. People greet each other with "Eid Mubarak," meaning "Blessed Eid" and with formal embraces. Sweet dishes are prepared at home and gifts are given to children and to those in need. In addition, Muslims are encouraged to forgive and seek forgiveness. Practices vary from country to country.

In many countries with large Muslim populations, Eid al-Fitr is a national holiday. Schools, offices and businesses are closed so family, friends and neighbors can enjoy the celebrations together. In the U.S. and the U.K., Muslims may request to have the day off from school or work to travel or celebrate with family and friends.

In countries like Egypt and Pakistan, Muslims decorate their homes with lanterns, twinkling lights or flowers. Special food is prepared and friends and family are invited over to celebrate.

In places like Jordan, with its Muslim majority population, the days before Eid al-Fitr can see a rush at local malls and special "Ramadan markets" as people prepare to exchange gifts on Eid al-Fitr.

In Turkey and in places that were once part of the Ottoman-Turkish empire such as Bosnia and Herzegovina, Albania, Azerbaijan and the Caucasus, it is also known as the, "Lesser Bayram" or "festival" in Turkish.

4. How do Muslims celebrate Eid al-Adha?

The other festival, Eid al-Adha, is the "feast of the sacrifice." It comes at the end of the Hajj , an annual pilgrimage by millions of Muslims to the holy city of Mecca in Saudi Arabia that is obligatory once in a lifetime, but only for those with means.

Eid al-Adha recalls the story of how God commanded Ibrahim to sacrifice his son Ismail as a test of faith. The story, as narrated in the Quran, describes Satan's attempt to tempt Ibrahim so he would disobey God's command. Ibrahim, however, remains unmoved and informs Ismail, who is willing to be sacrificed.

But, just as Ibrahim attempts to kill his son, God intervenes and a ram is sacrificed in place of Ismail. During Eid al-Adha, Muslims slaughter an animal to remember Ibrahim's sacrifice and remind themselves of the need to submit to the will of God.

5. When are they celebrated?

Eid al-Fitr is celebrated on the first day of the 10th month in the Islamic calendar.

Eid al-Adha is celebrated on the 10th day of the final month in the Islamic calendar.

The Islamic calendar is a lunar calendar, and dates are calculated based on lunar phases. Since the Islamic calendar year is shorter than the solar Gregorian calendar year by 10 to 12 days, the dates for Ramadan and Eid on the Gregorian calendar can vary year by year.

6. What is the spiritual meaning of Eid al-Fitr?

Eid al-Fitr, as it follows the fasting of Ramadan, is also seen as a spiritual celebration of Allah's provision of strength and endurance.

Amid the reflection and rejoicing, Eid al-Fitr is a time for charity, known as Zakat al-Fitr. Eid is meant to be a time of joy and blessing for the entire Muslim community and a time for distributing one's wealth.

Charity to the poor is a highly emphasized value in Islam. The Quran says ,

"Believe in Allah and his messenger, and give charity out of the (substance) that Allah has made you heirs of. For those of you who believe and give charity – for them is a great reward."

What is a sales script?

The term 'sales script' loosely refers to any combination of predetermined strategies, talking points, questions, and conversational structures sales reps can reference when speaking to prospects.

Sales scripts shouldn't be taken as rigid, repeatable, word-for-word checklists with no room for deviation — it's better to think of them as guides and not formulas. Any successful sales conversation will take some degree of improvisation and finesse.

Still, having a baseline sales script to help shape the course of a conversation can be extremely valuable when engaging with prospects. Going into a sales conversation blind — without a solid concept of the talking points you'd like to hit or an ideal trajectory of where it should go — can make you look sloppy, unprepared, or uninterested.

Let's take a closer look at how to put one of these scripts together.

  • Hone in on your target audience
  • Develop your benefits
  • Link your benefits to pain points
  • Ask questions about those pain points
  • Don't talk too much

1. Identify a product or service to focus on

Start by identifying the product or service you would like to ultimately sell to the prospect. You need a focal point. Bouncing from solution to solution, clumsily saying, "Well actually, this could work for you too," over and over again makes you seem unfocused and impersonal.

Stick to the offering that best suits your prospect's needs — project confidence in a product or service, and show that you understand your potential customer's circumstances.

2. Hone in on your target audience

Different prospects in different industries holding different positions are bound to have different needs and preferences. Though you can try to create a one-size-fits-all sales script that appeals to several kinds of prospects, you're better off tailoring your questions and points to suit specific buyer personas.

Know who you're selling to. Conduct research that covers the challenges they face in their role, their competitive landscape, the issues their company is dealing with, and other factors that can shape relevant questions and talking points. Remember, sales is a personal practice, so gather as much personal insight as you can when putting your script together.

3. Develop your benefits

Take the solution you selected and then think about the buyer that you are planning on talking to. What can they expect to see by leveraging it?

Selling features is less effective than selling benefits . Your sales script shouldn't cover all the neat bells and whistles that come with your product or service — it should tout the bigger-picture results that it will generate.

Does your solution increase productivity? Does it cut costs? Does it take strain off employees' day-to-day? Try to come up with at least three key benefits, and fold those into your sales script.

  • Shorten the time it takes to place a new hire.
  • Reduce internal time spent searching, screening, and interviewing applicants.
  • Build top-caliber teams leading to the best business results.

4. Link your benefits to pain points

Why is your prospect talking to you in the first place? Clearly, they have some pressing issues they need to resolve — otherwise, they wouldn't be interested in a solution like yours at all.

You should be able to surmise some of your prospect's key pain points through the research you've conducted and the benefits you've framed in the previous steps.

List out those problems and concerns, and link them to the benefits you've identified. Every perk you can reference stems from a specific pain point your prospect is facing. Have them ready, and incorporate them into your script.

  • It takes too long to place a new hire.
  • It is difficult to find time for interviewing process because of everyday responsibilities.
  • They lack top-caliber employees.

5. Ask questions about those pain points

The ability to ask thoughtful, probing, insightful questions is the mark of a truly exceptional salesperson. Those kinds of lines of questioning demonstrate sincere interest, show that you've done your research, and indicate that you actually believe that your solution is the best possible one to suit your prospect's needs and interests.

Take a close, thorough look at the pain points you've identified when developing your questions. Try to come up with at least one or two thoughtful questions for every challenge you've decided to reference.

If you can do that, you can frame yourself as an interested, consultative, helpful figure who's equipped to help your prospect navigate their unique problems and concerns.

  • " How do you feel about the amount of time it currently takes you to fill open positions? "
  • " How happy are you with the quality of candidates you are being presented with? Do you feel like you can choose from top-caliber talent? "
  • " How important is it for you to decrease the amount of time you spend interviewing? "
  • " How do delays with filling positions impact business operations and the bottom line? "
  • " Do you feel like you have the internal resources and processes necessary to fill positions quickly and with the right quality talent? "

Using the points you came up with in steps one through five, adapt these scripts to your own product, company, and prospects.

6. Don't talk too much

If you're doing more talking than listening, you're doing it wrong. A script should leave ample time for your prospect to ask questions, share comments, and generally be heard.

Record yourself giving your pitch to a friend or colleague. When you go back and listen, if more than half the pitch is you talking, rethink your approach, edit your script, and include more moments to ask your prospect questions.

  • " So, what I'm hearing from you is [repeat what you've heard from your prospect]. Is that right? "
  • " What are your goals this quarter? "
  • " Is this relevant to your company goals this year? "
  • " What's your single biggest pain point right now? "
  • " How long have you been thinking about this? "
  • " Is there anything I've overlooked? "
  • " What's your biggest priority at the moment? "
  • " How will this solution make your life easier? "
  • " What is your manager hoping to accomplish in the next year? "
  • " Have I earned two more minutes of your time? "

Work a few of these questions into your script and entice your prospect to answer. It's an easy way to keep the conversation going and learn more about them.

7. Always close for something

Sales pro Jeff Hoffman says a salesperson should have a close in mind for every interaction they initiate. It might be as simple as asking for five minutes more of your prospect's time. Or it might be asking for their business.

Hoffman explains, "Your talk track should always be about your prospect. Don't finish with ' Does that make sense?' or ' Is this something you'd be interested in?' These closing questions feel like a quiz and are more about you than them ."

He continues, "Instead, close with, ' We have clients who love being able to build software anywhere in the world. How many software engineers do you have at your company?'" This question doesn't assume your prospect followed your whole pitch. If you lost them, this type of question can gain their attention back.

But every time you send your prospect a message, make sure you have a call to action for them.

So, what do these seven tips look like in action? Let's take a look.

Salesperson: " Hello, [Prospect name]. My name is Michael Halper and I help hiring managers like you reduce the time it takes to interview, hire, and onboard new talent in 50% less time than the industry average. How many new hires do you have planned for the year? "

Prospect: " Well, my department has the budget for seven new hires in 2019. "

Salesperson: " What's your biggest pain point in the hiring process right now? "

Prospect: " I've got a million other things going on, and finding qualified candidates has been a challenge. We need to get these positions filled, but I'm having a hard time making it a priority with everything else on my plate. "

Salesperson: " I hear that a lot. I'd love to set up a 10-minute call to learn more about your goals this year, and share how Recruiters International might be able to help. What about this Thursday? "

Prospect: " Um, sure. I think I've got an 11:00 open. "

I've introduced myself but also gotten straight to the meat of what I can offer to make my prospect's life better. Then, I've asked plenty of questions to get her talking. I ended by closing for another call. Simple, straightforward, and prospect-focused.

The outreach call is the deal-starter. It’s your chance to begin on the right foot with a prospect. That way, you don’t waste time warming a lead who’s not even close to the decision makers. The script allows you to stay succinct and professional, and provides different script options depending on the outcome.

3. Discovery Sales Call Script

The discovery call is the crowning glory of a new deal. It’s your chance to uncover your prospect’s needs at length — and to further qualify them. It’s a good time to identify whether they’re a good-fit prospect and therefore worth pursuing.

This script is flexible enough for different industries and personas. You can get as granular about pain points as you’d like — or, if the prospect still seems reluctant, ask high-level questions that lead them slowly toward articulating their needs. Like all scripts, you’ll have different options depending on your prospect’s response.

4. Following Up Call Script

Following up is a must, not only to stay top-of-mind but to ensure you’re doing everything possible to lead prospects toward a pitch meeting. This script is short, sweet, and easy to customize. Why use sales scripts?

You might feel trepidation about using sales scripts — we understand. You don’t want to sound like a robot, right? But they’re a necessity. Not only because they considerably speed up the sales process , but because they make your job much easier.

Here are just a few of the benefits you’ll enjoy by adding scripts to either your personal playbook or team playbook :

1. You will know what to say during sales calls.

This one is obvious, but it cannot be overstated. By using sales scripts, you will simply know what to say — and there’s no better feeling during a call where prospects may take you aback with objections, questions, and unexpected pain points. Plus, if you create different scripts for different verticals, you’ll be better prepared to identify a prospect’s needs from the first discovery call .

Remember, the point isn’t to regurgitate the script word-for-word, but to know it well enough that you can leverage it at the right time. Without a doubt, sales call scripts will prepare you for any scenario.

2. You will know when to list product benefits during the call.

A script gives you beats to follow, so you’ll know when exactly to begin pitching your product’s benefits to prospects. It’s essential to wait for the right time, or you’ll put off the prospect by delving into the solution without first becoming acquainted with their pain points.

This is especially important when working with different contacts at an organization. For instance, your script for a gatekeeper may include product-level benefits after you’ve warmed them up, while your script for a decision-maker may include result-level benefits right from the start.

3. You will be better prepared to handle objections.

Sales call scripts prepare you to effectively handle objections . Objection handling is one of the hardest parts of working in sales, but a script will make it much easier, no matter what kind of contact you’re interacting with. You want to be able to dispel qualms respectfully and reasonably. The best way to do that is to use a script that prepares you to stay calm while you persist.

4. New sales reps will learn more quickly and effectively.

An unmissable benefit of sales scripts is being able to onboard new sales reps much more quickly. Instead of having them shadow different reps, all of who will likely have a different style, you can standardize the learning process by providing sales scripts to follow.

New hires will also be able to get on the phone more quickly if they know what to say from the onset, instead of having to guess or come up with their own script.

5. You will speed the sales cycle.

By eliminating trite back and forth, sales scripts allow you to get to the sales pitch as quickly as possible. You can qualify prospects much more quickly when you know what to ask. You can also handle objections earlier in the process than if you had to come up with an answer from scratch every time.

As a result, your sales cycle will considerably shorten, allowing you to find good-fit prospects, close more deals, and reach quota more quickly.

6. You will create a consistent experience across your customer base.

Whether you work exclusively with small businesses, enterprises, or consumers, it’s important to provide as consistent experience as possible across the board. This doesn’t mean using the same script on different prospects — each one will have different pain points, needs, and timelines — but it does mean having a standard starting base for each conversation.
