A visit to a bank is always informative. The banking institution is an integral part of the present economic system.

Channelization and concentration of resources for the purposes of satisfying the economic needs and objectives of the nation, is the principle on which a bank operates.

I had to visit the bank to open my own account last Sunday.

Work of Various Departments:

Just like the post office, the working of the bank is divided into many different departments which collectively handle the affairs of the bank. These departments have been provided with specific counters or windows where the customers have to stand in queue and wait for their turn. Almost every bank is air-conditioned nowadays. There are seats put up for the people who visit the bank for work. There are cabins provided for the managers and general manager of the bank. There is also a room where the assets and other valuables of the people are kept in safe boxes.

ADVERTISEMENTS:

There are boards attached on each wall which give the basic information regarding the working of banks:

1. Account Opening Counter:

This is the department which is the busiest of all sections. When I visited the bank, I was surprised to see a very long queue in this counter. I thought it would take me hours to get an account opened. There was a form which needed to be filled up along with the signature of a confidant and one’s identity proof.

2. Demand Draft/Cheques Counter:

This section remained fairly less crowded. Customers of the bank visited this section to get their demand drafts and cheques done. For each one of them, a separate form was available which had to be filled and was to be submitted to the person sitting at the counter along with the requisite amount of money mentioned in the form.

3. Withdrawal Counter:

The withdrawal counter is where people come to encash cheques and withdraw money from their accounts. There are two types of deposits, which are discussed as follows:

Demand Deposits: Refer to the kind of deposits that can be readily withdrawn by individuals without any prior notice to the bank. In other words, the owners of these deposits are allowed to withdraw money anytime by merely writing a check. These deposits are part of the money supply as they are used as a means for the payment of goods and services as well as debts. Receiving these deposits is the primary function of commercial banks.
Time Deposits: Refer to deposits that are for a specified period. Banks pay higher interest on time deposits. These deposits can be withdrawn only after a specific period is completed by providing written notice to the bank.
Advancing Loans: This refers to one of the essential functions of commercial banks. Commercial banks use public deposits to grant loans to individuals and businesses. Commercial banks give loans in the form of overdraft, cash credit, and discounting bills of exchange .

Secondary Functions of Commercial banks :

Secondary functions of commercial banks refer to the crucial features of commercial banks. The auxiliary services can be classified into three heads, namely, agency functions, general utility functions, and other functions.

These functions are explained as follows:

Agency Functions: Implies that commercial banks act as agents of customers by performing various tasks, which are as follows:
Collecting Checks: Refer to one of the essential features of commercial banks. The banks receive checks and bills of exchange on behalf of their customers through clearing house facilities provided by the central bank.
Receiving Income: Constitute another significant function of commercial banks. Commercial banks collect dividends, pension, salaries, rents, and interests on investments on behalf of their customers. A credit voucher is sent to customers for information when the bank collects any income.
Paying Expenses: Implies that commercial banks make the payments of various obligations of customers, such as telephone bills, insurance premium, school fees, and rents. Similar to a credit voucher, a debit voucher is sent to customers for information when the bank pays expenses.

Advantages of commercial banks:

Commercial banking can help small businesses by making it easier to manage day-to-day financial tasks. An established commercial account with a bank will make it easier to borrow money when you grow your business. Often a business is assigned a representative who works directly with the company to find the best services and solutions for the issues the industry is facing. For example, the company may save money by outsourcing payroll processing. Banks also offer invoicing services, with personalized invoices, and can set up transfers to other banks, which will simplify accounting procedures. Some banks provide retirement account management for your employees as well as other employee benefits. This can save you money, and make it easier to manage all of the services you offer employees. Some banks allow you to make deposits online by scanning checks. Your bank may provide you with discounts on your merchant services fees. Commercial banking will enable you to set up direct deposits for your employees as well as for any invoices you need to pay to others, which will save you time.

Disadvantages of commercial banks:

Commercial banking or business accounts are often more expensive than traditional bank accounts. Banks may charge fees for night deposits, for processing a certain number of checks and for the payroll services. Depending on the size of your business, some of the services offered may not be needed, and you may still be charged for the services even if you’re not entirely using them. Different banks may provide various services and charge different fees, and it can be challenging to compare the services. Signing up for a commercial account before your business is ready for one will cost you and may slow the growth of the market. If you choose the wrong bank, you may have a difficult time opening a new account and transferring all of the services to another bank. This can cost you both time and money.

CONCLUSION:

After spending a day in a corporate bank and observing their work environment, we could say that it’s the best services an individual could gain. A corporate bank has everything that is needed for an average citizen. It includes the transfer of money, quick cash, loans, deposits, cheques, etc. all at once place, thus saving time and money by providing everything right in one place. There is an entire staff facility in the bank that was ready to help whenever possible. The positive attitude of the employees gave enormous confidence to the clients to deal with the bank again

Aside from that, the bank also has various facilities like net banking, mobile banking through which a person can do almost everything from anywhere without actually visiting the bank physically. Hence I would say that the corporate bank in my town provided all the facilities one would need

DISCUSSION:

After discussing the bank details with one of the businessmen, he concluded that there are some facilities that a corporate bank cannot provide for a business person.

A mere example will be if you want to start a startup. It needs vast capital, and taking the capital on an interest rate higher than the required will eventually result in the liquidation of the newly emerged startup. Thus an investment bank does this risky task.

YOUR OPINION/ SUGGESTION :

Commercial banks should change their marketing concept. Under the new concept of marketing, the task of management should not so much be a skill in making the customer do what suits the rest of the business, as to be skillful in conceiving and making the business do what suits the interest of the customers.

The commercial banks should also provide credit to the agriculturists based on ‘joint guarantee’ given by the village panchayat or by a few well-known farmers of the village. The acceptance of such a basis will greatly help the farmers, particularly small farmers, in securing loans from commercial banks. This will also result in the more purposeful advent of the commercial banks in the rural sector and will bring them into a relationship with cooperative institutions. It will also ensure a fair understanding between them and encourage commercial banks to operate on the principle of collective service for a collective need.

An exhibition is a place where a range of items of one type is shown. Exhibitions introduce us to a specific field of art, and I’ve always been fascinated by art. Last weekend, we went to a painting exhibition at Saltlake Stadium. The entrance fee was a reasonable 200 rupees. We reached there promptly at 4 p.m. It was bright and colourful, with a lively atmosphere.

The first stall displayed colourful and appealing oil paintings. These were mostly one-of-a-kind works of art, and abstract paintings hung next. I was perplexed by this type of painting. It had picked up on what I was thinking. The third stall was the most intriguing. It housed an incredible collection of paintings by well-known artists from around the world like Michelangelo and Pablo Picasso. It was a delightful evening.

Short Essay on Visit to an Exhibition in 200 Words

An exhibition is a setting where various items of a particular type are displayed. Exhibitions expose us to a specific field of art, and art has always captivated me. We went to a painting exhibition at Saltlake Stadium last weekend. The entrance charge was a modest 200 rupees. We arrived at 4 p.m. sharp. We got there early because we wanted to see everything that had been set up. Window shopping and gathering information were more important than making actual purchases.

The ground resembled one of those enormous expenses we’d read about in storybooks. It was bright and colourful, the atmosphere was active, and I could see foreigners. It largely displayed dazzling and attractive oil paintings. These were generally one-of-a-kind paintings. It appeared to be similar to how we snap close-up photos with our cameras.

Abstract paintings were hung next to it as part of an exhibition. This style of art perplexed me. It had picked up on my thoughts. The most intriguing stall was the third. It has a fantastic collection of paintings by well-known painters from all around the world. It also featured works by notable artists such as Michelangelo and Picasso.

We were tired of walking by half-past six, and there were benches at the end of the exhibition. We took a seat there. Popcorn, lemon tea, and delectable fritters were offered for purchase. We continued to eat till we burped. It was a wonderful evening.

My mother is particularly fond of visiting exhibitions. I like to accompany her. An exhibition is a place where varied varieties of a particular kind of thing are displayed. It is like a big tree with different branches that bears juicy fruits and vibrant flowers. However, the fruits and flowers are all unique in their way.

Exhibitions give us exposure to a particular field of art, and art always fascinates me. Last weekend, we went to a painting exhibition at Saltlake Stadium. The entry fee was a reasonable 200 rupees. We reached there at 4 pm sharp. We started early because we wanted to see everything put on display. We were more interested in window shopping and gathering information than making real purchases. Photography was prohibited, so I didn’t take the trouble of carrying my camera anyway.

Saltlake Stadium is a large ground, and we realised at the entrance itself that it’s going to be a lot of footwork. The ground appeared to be one of those vast fares we read in stories. It was so colourful and vibrant, the environment was lively, and I could spot foreigners too. People of all ages were gathered up here. We started taking the stroll from the first stall on the left side of the entrance. It primarily exhibited oil paintings that were glossy and alluring. These were mostly the paintings of single pieces. It looked like the way we take close up captures from our cameras.

Next to it, abstract paintings were put up for exhibition. I found this form of art confusing. It picked up my brain. I felt that I, too, could have easily managed to make a stroke or two of those from my skilful hand, but I wasn’t confident enough to make such an utterance in front of my mother. I let the thought pass before it would have made a settlement in my tiny brain.

The third stall was the most interesting. It had a great collection from renowned painters around the world. It also had some paintings by great artists like Michelangelo and Picasso. I wanted my mother to buy at least one of them, but it was way over our budget. I decided I would draw a sketch and colour it nicely and offer it as a present to my mother on her birthday.

By half-past six, we were tired of walking, and there were benches at the end of the exhibition. We sat down there. Bustling popcorns, lemon tea and mouth-watering fritters were available to eat. We kept munching till we burped. We bought a wooden frame for the sketch I planned to do next weekend and returned home in time for dinner. It was a delightful evening.
