Risks are an inherent part of any software project. The presence of risks in environments of software development projects requires the perception so that the associated factors do not lead projects to failure. The correct identification and monitoring of these factors can be decisive for the success of software development projects and software quality. However, in practice, risk management in software development projects is still often neglected and one of the reasons is due to the lack of knowledge of risk factors that promoted a low perception of them in the environment. This paper aims to identify and to map risk factors in environments of software development projects. We conducted a systematic literature review through a database search, as well as we performed an assessment of quality of the selected studies. All this process was conducted through a research protocol. We identified 41 studies. In these works, we extracted and classified risk factors according to the software development taxonomy developed by Software Engineering Institute (SEI). In total, 148 different risk factors were categorized. The found evidences suggest that risk factors relating to software requirements are the most recurrent and cited. In addition, we highlight that the most mentioned risk factors were the lack of technical skills by the staff. Therefore, the results converged to the need for more studies on these factors as fundamental items for reduction of failure level of a software development project.

Title: data management challenges in agile software projects: a systematic literature review.

Abstract: Agile software development follows an adaptive and iterative approach. However, the management of data (e.g., development data or product data) can pose significant challenges for projects and agile teams. We aim to identify and characterize key challenges faced in data management within agile projects and to examine potential solutions proposed in the literature. We used a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) to collect and analyse relevant studies. We identified 45 studies related to data management in agile software development. We then manually analysed and mapped data from these studies to categorise different data management aspects and identify challenges and solutions as identified in those studies. Our findings reveal major challenges such as data integration and quality assurance. We found implications of challenges on team members and the product delivery process. We found that teams frequently struggle to integrate heterogeneous data sources, ensuring data reliability and real-time analytics. Additionally, fragmented data collection and a lack of standardized practices can impede team collaboration and project transparency. The studies have also proposed various solutions to address those challenges, including the use of ontologies, diverse data management strategies, automated tools, and the adoption of quality-focused development methods. Solutions also include training to enhance data quality and analysis. This SLR provides in-depth insights and recommendations for practitioners, emphasizing the importance of robust data management strategies. It suggests integrating advanced data management techniques into agile frameworks to enhance decision-making and improve software project outcomes. The study highlights the need for a more focused approach to data management in agile environments, advocating tailored solutions to meet the unique demands of agile software development.

Collect and analyze the literature

With a focus in mind, a researcher can collect studies that provide relevant information for that focus. Suggest implications

The literature review allows the researcher to argue a particular point through the evidence provided by the analysis. In that case, the researcher can argue that further study can address this research gap.

External requirements aside (e.g., many academic journals have a word limit of 6,000-8,000 words), a literature review as a standalone publication is as long as necessary to allow readers to understand the current state of the field. Even if it is just a section in a larger paper, a literature review is long enough to allow the researcher to justify the study that is the paper's focus.

Note that a literature review needs only to incorporate a representative number of studies relevant to the research inquiry. For term papers in university courses, 10 to 20 references might be appropriate for demonstrating analytical skills. Published literature reviews in peer-reviewed journals might have 40 to 50 references. One of the essential goals of a literature review is to persuade readers that you have analyzed a representative segment of the research you are reviewing.

Recently published studies have greater value in determining the gaps in the current state of research. Older research is likely to have encountered challenges and critiques that may render their findings outdated or refuted. What counts as recent differs by field; start by looking for research published within the last three years and gradually expand to older research when you need to collect more articles for your review.

Consider the quality of the research

Projects are widely recognized nowadays by organizations. They are part of the activities of both education providers and companies. Project management has been applied in organizations since the 1960's. However, despite garnering experience and improving on available methods, a significant number of projects (including educational ones) still fail. According to the Gartner Group's worldwide research, the percentage of unsuccessful projects (failed and challenged) as of the year 2012 was 61%. Therefore, the question, " what drives the success of the project? " , remains a fresh issue. Researchers thus undertake to continuously narrow this knowledge gap. However, as the issue is a complex one, many ideas, concepts and pieces of advice are given. In the article, based on the literature review, different approaches to projects' success are presented, discussed and systemized. The factors influencing the success of projects are identified and presented in the following areas: (1) applied methods, (2) people in projects, (3) and organizational context. Method-related issues are about utilizing tools and techniques in project management. Moreover, they cover the application of global standards while managing the projects. The discussion on the influence of the people involved in the project is not limited to human resources only. Widely recognized and fresh ideas of the Stakeholder Management concept are discussed as well. Last, but not least, the issue of the organizational context in which the projects are executed is emphasized. This matter is of high importance nowadays as the complexity and the number of managed projects has increased significantly within the last twenty years. Furthermore, the author outlines some characteristics related to the different types of projects and their associated success factors. Some advice for practitioners is given on what kind of action should be undertaken to increase the success of projects. The findings of this article can be of special interest to managers of any type of projects, including international ones where Stakeholder Management and organizational issues tend to play an important role in project success.

Project Management Skills: A Literature Review and Content Analysis of Librarian Position Announcements

Project management is pervasive in the literature and practice of many industries, including finance, IT, engineering, and biotechnology. The recent rapid proliferation of complex library services such as virtual reference and digital repositories suggests that the role of librarians is becoming increasingly project-oriented. This article presents an overview of professional project management and a literature review from the library science and management literatures. A content analysis of librarian position announcements was conducted, and indicates that project management skills are in demand for librarians. However, it is unclear whether current library science literature and education adequately address project management skills or other traditionally “extra-librarian” leadership qualities now needed to effectively manage project based initiatives in libraries.
