Magnolia Network’s ‘Home Work’: Everything to Know About the Show Amid Controversy

Magnolia Network Home Work Candis and Andy Meredith

In need of renovations. Chip and Joanna Gaines had high hopes when they launched Magnolia Network, but they were not expecting the controversy that stemmed from Andy and Candis Meredith ’s show Home Work .

The Fixer Upper alums left HGTV in 2018 after becoming some of the network’s biggest stars . The couple branched out on their own with Magnolia Network , which debuted on Discovery+ in January 2021. DIY Network eventually rebranded as Magnolia Network in January 2022.

Home Work originally premiered on the Discovery+ iteration of Magnolia Network in July 2021 before shifting to TV in January 2022. The show follows the Merediths as they transform a 20,000-square-foot school into their home while also doing projects for clients, overseeing rental properties and juggling their family of nine.

Two days after the series first appeared on airwaves, the network pulled Home Work amid allegations of shoddy work, expanding budgets and timelines, a lack of communication from Andy and Candis and unsafe conditions.

“I want Magnolia to be accountable,” Aubry Bennion, a Utah homeowner who was one of the Merediths’ former clients, shared via Instagram in January 2022. “It’s mind-blowing to me that they would put Magnolia’s name and reputation on the line or that they would allow these people to represent them without any sort of oversight or mentoring.”

Teisha Satterfield Hawley, another homeowner who worked with Andy and Candis, came forward with similar claims. “Hopeless is the word that comes to mind when I think of that day,” she wrote via Instagram in January 2022. “We had been living in our basement for months at this point, including Thanksgiving, Christmas and birthdays. We were exhausted, we had just been told all of our funds were used and our home was torn apart with bubbling floors laid.”

Amid the controversy, the Merediths denied scamming or lying to their clients but admitted to setting unachievable goals.

“I fully acknowledge how hard any renovation is, especially when it’s a renovation for television. The timelines that were set were too crazy, and I am an optimistic person,” Candis said in a January 2022 Instagram video. “I know better now that I should never have said these short timelines and set these expectations. That is on me, and I take full responsibility.”

Chip and Joanna, for their part, have yet to react to the ordeal , but prior to the headlines about Home Work , they detailed how they curated the shows on Magnolia Network.

“We don’t do it the typical way. We’re not the network that says, ‘Send in your casting tapes,’” Joanna explained to Variety in January 2022. “For us, it’s been this really authentic way of finding talent. It’s either talent that we’re just completely enamored with as far as what they do, what they’re passionate about. It’s been a little harder, honestly, because it takes a lot of time on the phone and hours of talking them into even wanting to do television. I’d say most of our talent didn’t come to us and say, ‘I want to do a show.’ We came to them and said, ‘Can we highlight what you’re doing? It’s so amazing and inspiring.’”

Who Are Andy and Candis?

The couple tied the knot in 2013 and live in Utah with their seven children. (The Merediths share one daughter, while they each have three sons from previous relationships.) They have been flipping homes together since 2013. Before starring on Home Work , they appeared on a limited series called Old Home Love , which aired on HGTV and DIY Network in 2015, and produced their own Facebook Watch show titled Old Sweet Home . They also released their first book, Old Home Love , in 2017 and launched a YouTube series called Traveling Home in 2018.

What Are the Allegations?

Bennion claimed via Instagram that the Merediths began renovating her kitchen in 2019, informing her that the project would take three weeks and cost $20,000. The price allegedly rose to $25,000 while taping Home Work . It eventually cost more than $39,000 — with much of the sum allegedly going toward fixing the issues created by the project — and took five months to complete. Bennion also claimed that the Merediths created a drainage issue by building a deck over a sprinkler system, which cost $18,000 to repair.

Hawley, meanwhile, alleged that she gave Andy and Candis $45,000 to renovate her home, but after 10 weeks (the project was only slated for four), little work had been completed. The Merediths then allegedly said they needed another $40,000. Hawley claimed that she told the duo not to come back after they asked for more money.

Others who worked with the reality stars, including a local real estate agent, came forward with similar allegations via social media.

How Did Magnolia Network Respond?

The network pulled Home Work from the air in January 2022 amid the controversy. “Magnolia Network is aware that certain homeowners have expressed concerns about renovation projects undertaken by Candis and Andy Meredith,” Allison Page , the president of Magnolia, said in a statement at the time. “Within the last few days, we have learned additional information about the scope of these issues, and we have decided to remove Home Work from the Magnolia Network lineup pending a review of the claims that have been made.”

Later that month, the show returned to the network. “After speaking with homeowners as well as Candis and Andy Meredith regarding renovation projects for Home Work , and hearing a mix of both positive and negative experiences, we do not believe there was ill or malicious intent,” Page said. “Our commitment now is to provide appropriate resolutions for those whose experience with Home Work fell short of our network’s standards. While Home Work will return to Magnolia Network, we recognize the responsibility we have to act on how we can better support not only our talent but those who put their trust in them and this brand.”

What Was the Merediths’ Response?

Andy and Candis shared a lengthy statement via Instagram amid the allegations. “We have always tried to give everything we have to make anyone we work with happy,” they wrote. “We will never take away their truth and how they are feeling. We can only say that there are two sides to every story and while we chose not to go public with our truth, because we know how hurtful this feels, we understand that only hearing one side can paint a negative picture. We have always kept lines of communication open, there have always been ways for people to recover any damages, there have been purchase contracts in place, legal avenues etc, but taking this public seems to be the easiest way to harm us personally.”

They claimed that while it was “true that we are sometimes left with outstanding balances” on their projects, they “have paid every amount of money we could to [make] things right and have continued making payments when necessary.”

Inside the Drama Behind “Home Work,” Which Magnolia Network Pulled—and Then Reinstated

Following a flurry of social media drama last week, the show was pulled—now it's back on.

Home renovation shows are feel-good television, chronicling inspirational transformations many homeowners can only dream of. But are some of them too good to be true? Over the past week, several families featured on the new show Home Work— hosted by fixer-uppers Andy and Candis Meredith,as part of the starting lineup at Chip and Joanna Gaines 's new Magnolia Network —have stepped forward with deeply concerning allegations leveled at the show's producers. They report fraudulent promises, financial disarray, and unsafe (even illegal) labor conditions at their own home renovations, which were all filmed for the show.

On Thursday January 6, in response, Magnolia Network officially pulled Home Work from all its platforms.

So What Happened?

Three homeowners—Aubry Bennion, Teisha Hawley, and Vienna Goates—spoke out in a series of damning Instagram posts , condemning Andy and Candis for over-promising and under-delivering. The allegations range from the couple blowing budgets by tens of thousands of dollars (and then demanding additional funds to finish the work), to inexcusible lapses in work and communication, to hiring unlicensed contractors who created unsafe conditions.

"After our meeting and finding out about the blown budget we had multiple conversations via phone, text, and email," wrote Hawley. "We were told that we had to wire $10,000 immediately to have anything done."

For their part, the Merediths owned up to some shortcomings on the projects, including sometimes being “left with outstanding balances,” per their own Instagram post addressing the allegations on Saturday, “but we always pay, even if it takes some time for us to make arrangements.” In an exclusive interview with House Beautiful , Candis also confirmed that some of the timelines on the renovations in question were extended. “I'm only relaying what I'm being told by contractors about timeline. Unfortunately, I can't control that when I'm not the one swinging the hammer and running the wires, as much as I'd love to,” she says. “And I would love to budget more time for client projects in the future. If I ever do client projects again, that's absolutely something that I've learned.”

Another homeowner featured on the show, Jeana Quigley, voiced her support for the Merediths after the show was canceled, acknowledging that while her renovation did take longer than expected, she felt that “Candis truly wanted me to love that space,” per an Instagram story posted on Friday. “I’ve done other remodels in the past and have never had one go absolutely perfectly. Every project has issues,” she wrote.

What Went Wrong?

This is not the first time a home renovation show has presented a perfectly polished product only to have the veneer crack. In 2005, the Higgins family featured on ABC’s Extreme Makeover: Home Edition sued the network for “fraud, breach of contract and infliction of emotional distress,” per the Los Angeles Times , though a judge ultimately dismissed the case. Then in 2017, after starring on HGTV’s Love It or List It, Deena Murphy and Tim Sullivan sued the show’s network, the production company, and general contractor for “breach of contract, faulty workmanship, and unauthorized retention of funds,” per the Triad Business Journal . They settled out of court.

TV aside, no renovation goes off without a hitch. Home renovations often go over budget—a 2020 Houzz survey of nearly 90,000 homeowners reports that 31 percent of respondents went over budget during renovations in 2019. And timelines are often extended : “It is not only common but also a guarantee that issues will arise on major renovations,” says Kentucky-based interior designer Isabel Ladd . “Instead of thinking, 'I wonder what issues will arise on this project,' I shift my thinking to, 'I wonder what solutions I'll conjure up during this project.' You simply don't know what will happen when walls start coming down.”

Additionally, Andy and Candis assert that some of the claims made by their clients are unfounded. In their own Instagram statement, they wrote, “We adamantly deny that we have ever stolen money from these clients, we haven't defrauded ‘so many families’. We worked with licensed general contractors.” While Candis wouldn’t elaborate on specifics, she did tell House Beautiful, “I look forward to sharing more details if and when I can.”

One of the bigger issues plaguing the production of Home Work is that the Merediths seem to have taken on far more roles than is typical for reno show hosts (and even real-world designers). “[Candis] was truly operating as a one-man band,” Bennion tells House Beautiful . “She oversaw the design. She oversaw the construction. She was on-air talent. She was the project manager.” Both Andy and Candis served as executive producers on the show, while Candis also served as director and design producer—all while managing eight or nine client renovations during Home Work ’s several-month production period.

couple on red carpet step and repeat

“The reason for that is I'm so passionate about creating a different kind of show,” says Candis. “I was asked to make the full show that I wanted to make, and I was really excited to do that. So that meant that I took on quite a bit of the roles because it truly was my show, was my vision.”

But she also says that she felt less burdened by managing the production of the show than she did by managing the actual renovations. Prior to Home Work , she and her husband didn’t focus on client-driven work—their previous show, 2015’s Old Home Love on HGTV, saw the couple restore old houses with no clients involved. That lack of experience could explain, in part, why the Merediths’s expectations for the renovations didn’t square with reality.

“Oh my, do I feel for the Merediths. Reading about their situation has evoked so much empathy from me because I absolutely understand how things can go so wrong, especially when an extensive renovation is underway, supply chain issues are abundant, and surprises are beyond our control,” says Ladd.

Who's to Blame?

While it seems as if the Merediths did bite off more than they could chew, Bennion also questioned the role of the show’s production company in the mismanagement.

In unscripted television, networks typically outsource the day-to-day production of shows to third-party companies. For Home Work, Magnolia Network, which is owned by media giant Discovery, Inc., appears to have contracted a company called Linguine Pictures to produce the show, per the credits. Bennion confirmed that she was aware of Linguine and its owners and executive producers, Anne and Dan Fox, having met with Anne twice early on in the process. But as the renovation went on, she says, the Foxes were absent and the Merediths were the only point people.

Neither Magnolia Network nor Linguine Pictures has responded to a request for comment about the production of the show, though Magnolia previously issued House Beautiful the following statement by its president Allison Page regarding pulling Home Work from its programming: "Magnolia Network is aware that certain homeowners have expressed concerns about renovation projects undertaken by Candis and Andy Meredith. Within the last few days, we have learned additional information about the scope of these issues, and we have decided to remove ‘Home Work’ from the Magnolia Network line up pending a review of the claims that have been made."

Magnolia Network launched its streaming services on July 15, 2021, and debuted on cable on January 5, 2022. As a relative newcomer, the network is clearly experiencing some hiccups as it figures out its workflow, perhaps especially because it has taken a unique approach to finding hosts.

In an interview with Variety last week, Joanna Gaines explained Magnolia Network’s atypical casting process. “It’s...talent that we’re just completely enamored with as far as what they do, what they’re passionate about,” she said, noting that they don’t ask for people to send in casting tapes, which is a more standard industry practice. “It’s been a little harder, honestly, because it takes a lot of time on the phone and hours of talking them into even wanting to do television.”

It’s an innovative method that’s particularly on-brand for the Gaineses. According to an interview with HGTV , the Gaineses—who before going on TV ran Magnolia Homes, a home renovation company—were originally approached for a show when a production company noticed one of their renovations on a "high profile blog," though at some point they did film a casting tape, which was released last week with the cable launch of Magnolia Network. That ultimately led to the extremely popular five-season original run of Fixer Upper on HGTV.

Andy and Candis, notably, followed a similar path, having gotten their start in the design industry by renovating their own home before they were approached to take their skills to TV. But there are two key differences between Fixer Upper and Home Work : The Gaineses had years of client-focused experience under their tool belts before getting a TV show, and they did not serve as executive producers on their show, meaning they likely had more capacity to focus on the renovations rather than the logistics of television production.

“All we wanted to do was do something beautiful together and put it on a beautiful television show that people could enjoy it," Candis tells House Beautiful. " And I'm so sorry for any of the experiences that have been less than ideal for these clients. My heart hurts for them. It really does.”

Being overburdened during a renovation is not an excuse for a designer to lie or dodge the client. All parties involved in shows like these, from producers to hosts, hold responsibility for the actual work being performed on real clients' homes. Hopefully Magnolia Network's investigation into the claims surrounding Home Work will shed more light soon on what went wrong.

From Bennion’s perspective, Magnolia Network has already done right by pulling the show—but she is concerned that their official statement is a little too open-ended. “I want them to be accountable for what they've done, and I also want them to stop doing this to other people,” she says.

The Merediths, meanwhile, are hoping for a second chance. “We will always stand by that this has been difficult for these clients, and I don't want to take away from anything that anyone has said,” says Mrs. Meredith. “We all make mistakes. That doesn't make it okay, but we have to be given the chance to learn from our mistakes and do better.”

Hopefully, this will become a lesson for future renovation TV endeavors, under the Magnolia umbrella and beyond. In fact, that sentiment is part of Magnolia’s DNA; per the company’s manifesto , “We believe that failure needn’t be a negative thing; rather, we learn from our mistakes and fail smarter next time.”

Magnolia Network has decided to return “Home Work” to its lineup after initially pulling the show due to complaints made by homeowners about the quality of work done by the contractors who host the unscripted series.

The probe by Magnolia, the joint venture of Discovery and lifestyle mavens Chip and Joanna Gaines, found no “ill or malicious intent” involved in the complaints and the show will begin airing again in a few weeks after the network helps resolve those complaints. “Home Work” is hosted by Utah-based home renovators Andy and Candis Meredith.

“Magnolia Network is dedicated to sharing hopeful and genuine stories,” Allison Page, president of Magnolia Network, said in a statement Thursday. “In doing that, we strive to meet people with compassion, and to cautiously approach difficult moments with honest understanding. After speaking with homeowners as well as Candis and Andy Meredith regarding renovation projects for ‘Home Work,’ and hearing a mix of both positive and negative experiences, we do not believe there was ill or malicious intent. Magnolia Network temoporarily pulled “ Home Work ” from its lineup last Friday after several homeowners alleged that their homes had been damaged during renovations. Magnolia, the linear and streaming channel curated by the “Fixer Upper” stars, made a splashy linear launch on Jan. 5.

“Home Work,” hosted by Andy and Candis Meredith, focused on renovating homes in the Utah area. But when at least three homeowners featured on the show came forward on social media this week with allegations of damaged homes, long delays and over-budget renovations, Magnolia Network decided to pull the show from its lineup.

The majority of the homeowners featured on the show were “thrilled” with their experiences, a source close to the network tells Variety . The source says the network committed to working with the Merediths and the handful of homeowners whose experience with “Home Work” fell short of the network’s standards and takes the claims very seriously, which is why the show was yanked so quickly last week.

(NEXSTAR) – The Magnolia Network, after deciding last week to temporarily remove the TV series “Home Work” from its schedule, said Thursday that the show will be re-added to the channel’s lineup.

The network had previously pulled the series amid a review of allegations from homeowners who were chosen to have their houses renovated. As of last week, three people had come forward with claims of shoddy workmanship or projects that were left unfinished . In two of the cases, the homeowners said they had agreed to a specific budget, only to learn months later that the work would cost much more than originally stated.

Allison Page, the president of Magnolia Network, confirmed in an emailed statement that the show will return, claiming that a review of the allegations found “no malicious or ill intent” on the part of the production or the show’s hosts, Candis and Andy Meredith.

“Magnolia Network is dedicated to sharing hopeful and genuine stories. In doing that, we strive to meet people with compassion, and to cautiously approach difficult moments with honest understanding. After speaking with homeowners as well as Candis and Andy Meredith regarding renovation projects for ‘Home Work,’ and hearing a mix of both positive and negative experiences, we do not believe there was ill or malicious intent,” Page said.

“Our commitment now is to provide appropriate resolutions for those whose experience with ‘Home Work’ fell short of our network’s standards. While ‘Home Work’ will return to Magnolia Network, we recognize the responsibility we have to act on how we can better support not only our talent, but those who put their trust in them and this brand.”

“Home Work,” a renovation/reality series hosted by the Merediths and based in Utah, was among the first shows to be produced for the Magnolia Network, itself a joint venture between Discovery, Inc., and Chip and Joanna Gaines of “Fixer Upper” fame. The show became available to watch as part of the Discovery+ streaming network in 2021.

Only days after the DIY Network was re-launched as the Magnolia Network in early January 2022, the network removed “Home Work” from its schedule in response to allegations of poor experiences on behalf of the homeowners featured in the show.

Aubry Bennion, one of the women who came forward with her account, claimed that Candis Meredith suggested making unneeded and ultimately detrimental renovation choices, like removing an egress point that was required by code, and creating a drainage problem by attempting to install a deck (to fix the egress problem). She also claims the Merediths hired uninsured and unlicensed workers.

Bennion, like one of the other homeowners who came forward, also claimed she was told months into the renovations that she would need to shell out a significant amount of additional money in order to finish the projects.

“People, bank accounts, livelihoods, families, our health, sanity … all of us have been left on the cutting room floor,”  Bennion wrote on Instagram , claiming she was hoping to protect “future victims” by sharing her side of the story.

Prior to the show’s reinstatement on the Magnolia Network, “Home Work” hosts Candis and Andy Meredith took to Instagram to respond to some of the allegations. They also shared videos taken during production, including one in which Bennion appeared happy with the finished project.

They did acknowledge, however, that there were “misunderstandings” and “hard conversations” along the way.

In his latest video response, Andy said that he and Candis were attempting to vent their frustrations and share their side of the story, and said they were not trying to “ lessen anybody’s feelings or make light of their story ” by sharing their own accounts.

Candis also said the couple’s children were being bullied as a result of the accusations.

It’s worth noting that not everyone who came forward with their experience on “Home Work” was critical of Candis and Andy’s work. On Instagram, another woman gushed about the “reading cottage” the Merediths had built for her, saying they did  “beautiful work”  despite it taking longer than expected.

Inside Home Work’s Candis and Andy Meredith’s Magnolia Network Scandal With Chip and Joanna Gaines

Octomom Nadya Suleman Children

Home Work stars Candis and Andy Meredith were swiftly pulled from Chip and Joanna Gaines ’ Magnolia Network, just one week after their show premiered, after several of the homeowners who appeared on the series came forward with allegations about the TV couple. Keep reading to learn more about the scandal.

Kate Gosselin House

Who Is the Meredith Family?

Candis and Andy have a blended family of nine — they each had three sons from previous relationships before they wed and share one daughter.

If their large brood looks familiar, it’s because the Meredith family has been in the home renovation business for years. In 2015, they starred in a limited series called Old Home Love , which aired on HGTV and DIY Network.

Home Work's Candis and Andy Meredith: Family, Scandal, Net Worth

Their stint on national TV led Candis and Andy to launch their former Facebook Watch show, Old Sweet Home , and they continued expanding their personal brand. In 2017, their book, Old Home Love , showed off more of their projects.

They gained even more traction one year later when they launched a YouTube series called “Traveling Home,” where they helped Garrett and Jessica Gee , known as the Bucket List Family, renovate an 80-year-old Hawaiian bungalow.

Candis and Andy are now co-owners of their own digital media company, Home Love Network.

What Is the Meredith Family’s Net Worth?

It’s unclear exactly how much the husband and wife have in their bank account, but multiple outlets report their net worth sits somewhere around $1.5 million.

Why Did Chip and Joanna Pull Home Work From Magnolia?

On January 7, Magnolia Network released a statement that it scrapped Home Work from Discovery Plus.

“Magnolia Network is aware that certain homeowners have expressed concerns about renovation projects undertaken by Candis and Andy Meredith,” Magnolia Network president Allison Page told People in a statement. “Within the last few days, we have learned additional information about the scope of these issues, and we have decided to remove Home Work from the Magnolia Network line up pending a review of the claims that have been made.”

Home Work's Candis and Andy Meredith: Family, Scandal, Net Worth

Candis and Andy previously told People that Joanna personally reached out to them in an Instagram DM in 2018. The family caught the Fixer Upper host’s attention because they began renovating a 20,000-square-foot schoolhouse to turn into their family home in Utah, which eventually became the framework of Home Work .

What Did Clients Say About the Merediths?

Several clients who appeared on Home Work came forward in early January and claimed they were scammed by the Merediths.

Stories that were shared included complaints of incomplete or shoddy work, poor communication from Candis and Andy, ballooning budgets and greatly extended timeline.

The first report came from Aubry Bennion , who aired her grievances against the reality TV family via Instagram. She said she was promised by the Merediths that the remodel of her Utah kitchen would take three weeks and cost $25,000. After several months — and a budget increase to $40,000 — her kitchen was still ripped apart.

Aubry provided screenshots of text conversations with Candis, emails with the flooring company, Lemco Design, claiming they were not paid and more in her 18-slide Instagram post.

Candis confirmed they had not paid the flooring company during an interview with Today . “We were advised not to pay another penny towards her renovation after we were threatened with lawsuits,” she said.

Since then, three other homeowners have come forward with their own stories.

Have the Merediths Responded?

Andy and Candis released a statement on their joint Instagram page about the situation on January 8.

“We’ve seen stories that has [sic] been circulating, and although we cannot speak for anyone but ourselves, we can say that we have always tried to give everything we have to make anyone we work with happy,” their lengthy post began. “We will never take away their truth and how they are feeling. We can only say that there are two sides to every story, and while we chose not to go public with our truth, because we know how hurtful this feels, we understand that only hearing one side can paint a negative picture.”

The couple continued, “We ask that these threats and piling on without the full story stop. They are the same handful of stories spinning and spinning, looking like there are ‘so many’ hurt people in our wake. So many believe that we are frauds, have hurt people intentionally and that we are not who we say we are. That is simply not true.”

On January 12, the duo spoke out again in separate videos they posted on their joint Instagram account, vehemently denying claims they scammed homeowners out of money and did poor work while filming their now-defunct series.

In his video, Andy said he and Candis felt they had no other choice than to pull their eldest daughter out of school because of the “Instagram Mafia” and the backlash they are receiving over the scandal.

Only $12! — (And No One Will Know They Aren’t Designer)

Deal of the Day

“No matter what your opinion, I’m asking the bullying [of] my kids to stop,” Candis said while fighting back tears in her solo clip. “Whatever your side is, please tell your kids who go to my kids’ schools to stop. We’re not OK, and whatever you think of me is fine, but please leave my children out of this. Thank you.”

In a caption, the pair further responded to the allegations made against them, adding, “We fully admit that we took on too much at one time, and that this was a hard road for these four clients’ renovation projects. We also acknowledge that after working in an extremely difficult industry for over 10 years, working with hundreds of people, there are inevitably going to be some who are dissatisfied.”

“We realize that we have put ourselves out there for the world to make judgments, and we have to accept that. What we will not accept is losing our livelihood and being put on public trial,” they continued. “We understand the frustrations, we really do. But these should have been resolved privately, through any means of communication, within the last two years and not in this malicious and salacious attempt to take away our means of living.”

90 Day Fiancé (2014–present)

Catfishing, breakups, makeups, proposals, lies, love, hate, and, of course, Big Ed. With all the caveats that come with love and internet dating, 90 Day Fiancé and all its spinoff shows make for great entertainment. The majority of the 90 Day Fiancé universe shows engaged couples in long-distance relationships as they meet in person for the first time and decide if their compatibility holds up in the real world. As TLC's most-watched franchise, 90 Day Fiancé clings to our human optimism (as we hope for the best) and our natural love of chaos (as we await the inevitable train wreck). Each season introduces a cast of characters whose romantic endeavors you either root for, laugh at, or despise. Feel free to call it a guilty pleasure if that makes you feel better about yourself, but there's no denying that these shows are captivating. —Briana Richert

Alone (2015–present)

History Channel 's Alone challenges ten professional survivalists to endure the wilderness for as long as possible with limited resources and complete isolation. In separate parts of a remote location, the contestants try their best to stay safe (and sane) to beat out the competition for the $500,000 prize. This show is like Survivor ' s rugged older brother who has undoubtedly been through some trauma. The survivalists face intense weather, wildlife predators, and other life-threatening obstacles throughout each episode. While the game seems like a nightmare to extroverts and those dependent on modern luxuries, Alone provides its viewers with practical survival knowledge and encourages introspection in a world overwhelmed with media distractions. In a conversation with EW's Mike Miller , Alone season 8 winner Clay Hayes says that "one of the biggest benefits of doing something like this is you get undistracted time to look inward and think about yourself." —B.R.

Chopped Junior (2015–2019)

Chopped Junior is excellent entertainment, provided you don’t mind ending each episode feeling hungry and culinarily inadequate. Hosted by Ted Allen, the show invites a slew of adolescent chefs into the kitchen where they compete for $10,000 and a Chopped Junior chef’s coat. The Chopped spinoff ran for nine seasons between 2015 and 2019, and, in keeping with the franchise, features prodigious, young chefs making inventive meals from mystery ingredients. A wonderful option for parents looking to sneakily trick their children into becoming interested in cooking, Chopped Junior is a great reminder of the old internet adage that no matter what it is you’re good at, somewhere in the world there’s a child doing it 100 times better than you ever could. —Ilana Gordon

Deadliest Catch (2005–present)

Discovery Channel/courtesy Everett Collection

Nearly two decades back, audiences first set sail to the dicey waters of the Alaskan coast on the Bering Sea, where crab fishermen gambled their lives for their life's passion and a paycheck. And 16 Emmys later, the documentary-style series has chronicled the harrowing adventures of various vessels and their intrepid crews across the October king crab and January snow crab seasons — battling boat collisions, power outages, 40-foot waves, and beyond. While these teams are under pressure of high-stakes competition among their fellow fishermen, Deadliest Catch eschews contrived drama as Mother Nature provides enough organic thrill, but what truly reels in viewers is the rapport among these seafarers and the eclectic subplots of rookie deckhands finding their footing. — James Mercadante

Dr. Pimple Popper (2018–present)

"Once you pop, the fun don't stop" is technically Pringles' tagline, but the same applies to the TLC reality show Dr. Pimple Popper . Dermatologist Dr. Sandra Lee started attracting attention as a YouTuber, but her treatments of patients' unusual — and often disgusting — skin conditions attracted such a large following, her content demanded a larger platform. Lee's hour-long reality show began airing on TLC in 2018 and continues to be a huge draw for the network. From lipomas and cysts to keloids and tumors, Lee tackles them all with professionalism and a seemingly imperturbable gag reflex. The shooting spurts of goo, pus, and assorted bodily fluids are definitely not for the faint of heart or weak of stomach, but for those who enjoy watching an expert pop pimples, lance boils, and generally improve the quality of her patients' lives, Dr. Pimple Popper is sure to deliver. — I.G.

Evil Lives Here (2016–present)

This Investigation Discovery show will delight true crime fanatics but may debilitate those with trust issues. Evil Lives Here details horrific crime stories told from the perspective of the criminal's closest friends and family. With documentary-style interviews, reenactments, and photo and video footage of the criminals themselves, the show paints a terrifying picture of what it's like to live with a real-world monster. From serial killers such as John Wayne Gacy to high-profile cult leaders like Warren Jeffs to lesser-known case files, Evil Lives Here explores the backgrounds of disturbed individuals before they committed such terrible crimes. Their relatives or former spouses share when they encountered or saw early signs of their loved one's malevolence. Fixer Upper (2013–2018)

Much thanks to the design duo powerhouse Chip and Joanna Gaines , the rustic-chic, modern farmhouse vibe has had its chokehold on Millennial homeowners and Targets everywhere. With their hit HGTV reality series, the fix-it team utilized their remodeling business in Waco, Texas, and their less-is-more approach to breathing new life into more than 100 homes — swapping bold colors for monochrome neutrals; cluttered spaces for airy, light-filled rooms with floor-to-ceiling windows; and wedging in a few faux plants as accent details. After it wrapped up its final season on HGTV in 2017, Fixer Upper was revived on the Gaines' very own Magnolia Network , along with Fixer Upper: Welcome Home and various spin-offs like Fixer Upper: The Castle and Fixer Upper: The Hotel . Ghost Adventures (2008–present)

Dust off your sage and keep your local exorcist on speed dial because, after this show, you might want to do a cautionary spirit cleansing. Ghost Adventures follows Zak Bagans, a paranormal investigator with notoriously bedazzled jeans, as he and his crew hunt for supernatural activity in the world's creepiest destinations. From the Civil War battlegrounds of Gettysburg to the birthplace of the fearsome Dracula in Transylvania, this Travel Channel show proves that Bagans and his team shy away from no haunted location. The show explores the mysteries of the afterlife with high-tech equipment and overviews of the rich histories of some of the world's most tragic deaths. All of their ghost encounters are certainly up for debate, but it does make you question the tangibility of the afterlife. If nothing else, it educates you about the history of the towns they explore and adds context to some of the most famous horror stories like Dracula and The Exorcist . —B.R.

It is lighthearted and playful with exciting challenges involving refrigerator magnets, oddball ingredient combos, and shopping carts that the contestants speed down the aisles like they're in the Indy 500. Fieri is an affable host, the meals look exquisite, and sometimes your favorite TV chefs (Jet Tila, Anne Burrell, and more) take on the game. At first glance, streaming service Discovery+ looks like a cable killer: “ 90 Day Fiancé , Property Brothers, Home Town , and more all on one service for under $10 a month? Consider that cord Chopped !” But, like a widower’s alibi on Fatal Vows , Discovery+ seems too good to be true. . . (dun-dun!) because it is.

The basics: Discovery+ hosts over 55,000 hours of classic and exclusive content from the Discovery collective of cable TV channels. Besides Discovery Channel, those include (deep breath) HGTV, Food Network, TLC, Investigation Discovery (ID), Animal Planet, OWN, A&E, Lifetime, History, Travel Channel, and Science Channel.

While it does have enough background reality TV to fold your laundry to for days, most of the Discovery+ catalog is previously aired content. The latest episodes and seasons of your favorite shows aren’t on Discovery+; they’re still on cable. Discovery+ doesn’t do next-day cable-to-streaming drops as you might expect. You’ll have to wait for the season to conclude, and maybe months after that.

But Discovery+ does have several exclusive shows to reel in fans of the Discovery Cinematic Universe, including three new 90 Day Fiancé spinoffs, and the monthly subscription rate ($4.99–$8.99/mo.) won’t eat much out of your deconstructed crudité budget.

Data effective as of post date. Offers and availability may vary by location and are subject to change.

While viewing Discovery+, we counted an average of three short blocks of ads per hour-long episode—not too annoying, and less than what you get with cable or satellite TV. But, if your tolerance for commercials is lower than Guy Fieri’s cargo shorts, spend the extra $2 on the Ad-Free plan.

Peacock $5.99–$11.99/mo. or $59.99–$119.99/yr. 3 12+ Please enter a valid zip code.

Discovery+ skews lower on the price scale than most other on-demand streaming services, and it’s also one of the few to offer a cheaper, ad-supported tier (along with Hulu, Paramount+, and Peacock). Even one of those House Hunters couples who can’t properly valuate a penthouse loft in the boho district could probably budget for a Discovery+ subscription.

Shows on Discovery+

Discovery+ live channels.

Like most on-demand streaming TV services, Discovery+ has no live channels. If you want to watch live content from Discovery Channel or any of the other networks under the Discovery+ umbrella, you’ll need to subscribe to a cable or satellite TV provider or a live TV streaming service .

Discovery+ on-demand shows

The Discovery+ library includes past seasons of over 2,500 shows from Discovery Channel, HGTV, Food Network, TLC, Investigation Discovery (ID), Animal Planet, OWN, Travel Channel, and Science Channel. Outside of Discovery’s networks, there’s also licensed content from A&E, Lifetime, History, and animal-centric digital media brands The Dodo, Seeker, POPSUGAR, and NowThis News.

Also, Discovery+ has plenty of spinoffs featuring your favorite Discovery networks stars. Hint: they’re usually the ones with a colon in the title.

For more detailed information on the Discovery+ library, check out our Discovery Plus Channels guide.

Discovery+ original shows

Discovery+ launched with several exclusive original series, a mix of spinoffs, talk shows, and new shows from Chip and Joanna Gaines’ soon-to-launch Magnolia Network.

One even addresses the national pastime of mocking House Hunters : Dan Levy ( Schitt’s Creek ) and Natasha Leggero ( Another Period ) host House Hunters: Comedians on Couches Unfiltered , bringing those catty internet memes to life.

There are also exclusive new—of course—murder shows (including one starring Investigation Discovery vet Joe Kenda), bolstering Discovery+’s claim of having “the biggest library of true crime content on any streaming service,” and four 90 Day Fiancé spinoffs.

If Discovery+’s main library is the entree, then its originals are the fan-service dessert.

Original shows on Discovery+ (partial list)

  • 90 Days Bares All
  • 90 Day Diaries
  • 90 Day Journey
  • 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way Strikes Back!

Discovery+ specs and features

Anyone who’s ever used Discovery networks apps like HGTV Go and TLC Go will notice that Discovery+ is a major step up, both in functionality and aesthetics. It works well and it looks cool—good on Discovery+, because not every company gets an app right even after several tries (right, Prime Video and Disney+?).

Multiple streams

Service Included streams Upgrades Offline downloads
Discovery+ 4 N/A Ad-Free plan only

Four streams—not bad, Discovery+. You can also create up to five separate user profiles and choose from nine channel-related avatars (donut, alien, shark, astronaut, classic car, crime scene, hot air balloon, or—yup—sasquatch). This is great for identifying your profile quickly, but Discovery+ doesn’t allow for uploading your own avatar photo like most other services.

Data effective as of post date.

See how easy that was, Disney+ and Max? Discovery+ is available on all the major streaming platforms right out of the gate. Well, except for PlayStation and Nintendo—sorry, gamers.

Discovery+ video and audio quality

Discovery+ streams at 1080p resolution, with some shows (like Planet Earth ) in 4K. Likewise, the audio is standard stereo 2.0 with select content streaming in Dolby 5.1 Surround Sound. You’ll be able to see and hear every spectral movement on Ghost Adventures —or not, depending on your skepticism level.

Discovery Plus Home Screen interface

The Discovery+ home screen features a top menu of topics: “Relationships,” “Food,” “Paranormal & Unexplained,” and more “Home” could be confusing because it refers to house shows, not the home screen. You can also collect your favorites in “My List” for quick access, or browse by network.

Discovery Plus "For You" screen

Final take: Is Discovery+ worth it?

Discovery+ gives a lot for a little. For five or seven bucks a month, 55,000 hours of content ain’t bad (that’s about six years of continuous viewing, BTW).

But if you thought Discovery+ would completely replace your cable or satellite subscription, no such luck. Because of licensing agreements, the latest Discovery networks seasons are still embedded deep in old-school TV; not even Dr. Pimple Popper could extract them.

But, even without the newest seasons, Discovery+ could still be essential to Discovery superfans who want to keep up on the exclusive spinoffs or newbies looking to discover all 55,000 hours of content.

Discovery+ FAQ

What’s included with discovery+.

With a Discovery+ subscription, you get access to past seasons of shows from the Discovery networks HGTV, Discovery Channel, Food Network, TLC, Investigation Discovery (ID), Animal Planet, OWN, Travel Channel, and Science Channel. You also get licensed content from A&E, Lifetime, History, and The Dodo. You’ll also get over 20 new Discovery+ original series.

How much does Discovery+ cost?

Discovery+ has two pricing tiers: an ad-supported $4.99 a month option and an ad-free $8.99 a month version. Both tiers include the same access to Discovery+’s 55,000 hours of content.

Will there be a Discovery Plus bundle with HBO Max?

Although Discovery+ now owns HBO, a bundle with the two streaming services is unlikely. Instead, Max (formerly HBO Max) is slowly introducing Discovery+ titles. We’ll update this piece as soon as we have more information.

How do I get Discovery+ for free?

If you’re a new or current Verizon Unlimited mobile customer, you may be eligible for a free year of Discovery+. You can also try out Discovery+ at no cost for seven days (credit card or PayPal payment info required).

Methodology

Our experts employed hours of hands-on testing with Discovery+, rating the streaming service on bang for your buck, reliability, and features. Then we matched up Discovery+ with other on-demand streaming services head to head to give a clearer picture of its strengths and weaknesses. What to Watch on the New Discovery Plus Streaming Service

It offers tlc and food network binge-fests, nature docs and offbeat history shows.

Nicholas DeRenzo,

A person holding a smartphone with the Discovery Plus streaming service logo displayed on it

After a year of COVID binge-watching, you might feel as if you've seen every single show and movie on Netflix, Hulu, Disney+, and Apple TV+. If so, you're in luck! January saw the launch of Discovery+, a new streaming service that brings together new and archival episodes from your favorite networks, including Discovery, HGTV, Food Network, TLC, Investigation Discovery, OWN, Travel Channel and much, much more — plus original shows and documentaries created exclusively for the platform. The initial lineup includes a record-setting 55,000 episodes, which means that you can watch for years without ever having to repeat a show.

How to subscribe to Discovery+

Visit discoveryplus.com or download the app to your smartphone, tablet or smart TV, and then pick a subscription plan: $4.99 per month for an ad-supported version or $6.99 per month for commercial-free viewing. The only thing left to do: decide what to watch. Check out our handy guide to original shows, including online-only spin-offs of franchises you'll recognize, such as 90 Day Fiancé , Flip or Flop and Say Yes to the Dress . And, in a nod to the service's name, we've pointed out three things you might discover as you stream each series.

Bobby and Giada in Italy

The hosts:  Chefs Bobby Flay, 56, and Giada De Laurentiis, 50

Watch it if you like:  Pasta, gelato and travelogue shows, such as  Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations  and  Somebody Feed Phil

The concept:  Flay and the Rome-born De Laurentiis (granddaughter of film producer Dino De Laurentiis) spent six weeks touring Rome and Tuscany in a red convertible, dining with De Laurentiis’ family, drinking fantastic wine and cooking classic dishes like wild boar ragù. We'll admit that we're a bit jealous watching people traveling while we're stuck at home, but before you ask, the show was filmed back in 2019, before the pandemic .

Three things you'll discover:  How pecorino cheese is made (it starts with milking sheep); which four pasta dishes Rome is known for; how to tell the difference between Roman and Neapolitan pizza

Frozen in Time

The hosts:   The Brady Bunch  star Maureen McCormick, 64, and designer Dan Vickery

Watch it if you like:  Classic 1970s sitcoms and retro-chic home decor

The concept:  After the success of 2019's  A Very Brady Renovation , Marcia Brady herself has teamed up with  HGTV Design Star  favorite Dan Vickery on this new home makeover show, in which they'll overhaul Southern California homes that haven't been updated in decades. Along the way, they'll swap out dated looks (think shag carpets and wood paneling) for trendy decor that references the past but brings the houses into the 21st century.

Three things you'll discover:  How to source new appliances that look retro; why you should be brave and choose a statement wallpaper; which landscaping plants are drought tolerant

Mysterious Planet

The host:   Friends  star David Schwimmer , 54

Watch it if you like:  Sweeping nature documentaries and Ross Geller

The concept:   Friends ’ resident paleontologist channels David Attenborough for this new wildlife docuseries, which whisks viewers off to the Ethiopian Highlands, a forgotten Brazilian rainforest, Mexico's pitch-black underwater caves and other far-flung locales to uncover the mysteries behind some of the planet's most unique creatures.

Three things you'll discover:  Why flamingoes engage in synchronized dance-offs; how the Mexican blind brotula fish gets around its cave home; which monkey species is the only one in the world to graze on grass

Watch it if you like:  The  90 Day Fiancé  franchise — and never leaving the couch again

The concept:  If you count yourself as one of  90 Day Fiancé 's obsessive superfans, you already know that the TLC reality series follows couples who have applied for K-1 visas (available for foreign-born fiancés of Americans) and have 90 days to get married. This new companion talk show includes never-before-seen footage and uncensored cast member chats, and it marks the continuation of an expanding universe of companion series that includes Discovery+ originals like  90 Day Diaries ,  90 Day Journey ,  The Other Way Strikes Back!  and  90 Day: The Single Life . Add in televised spin-offs and web series, and you just might find yourself glued to the TV for, well, 90 days.

To win the $10,000 prize, they’ll have to impress cake sculptor Natalie Sideserf and YouTube star Kalen Allen, who you might recognize from his energetic segments on Ellen .

Magnolia Table with Joanna Gaines

The host:   Fixer Upper 's Joanna Gaines

Watch it if you like:  Southern comfort classics and relatable hosts

The concept:  Fans fell hard for Joanna and Chip Gaines on their HGTV show  Fixer Upper , and this year, the Waco-based home renovators are relaunching the DIY Network as the Magnolia Network. Before the channel hits your TVs, Discovery+ will preview new original programming, including this cozy cooking show, where Joanna teaches easy-to-follow recipes from a gorgeous kitchen in a renovated 1800s gristmill.

Three things you'll discover:  Why you should use ice-cold butter to make the fluffiest biscuits; how to turn cranberries into a simple holiday gift; how to speed up the process of making homemade whipped cream

Six Degrees with Mike Rowe

The host:   Dirty Jobs  host Mike Rowe, 58

Watch it if you like:  Historical reenactments and that old parlor game “Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon”

The concept:  In his quest to prove that everything in the world is connected, Rowe created this unique history show, in which he makes bold claims, such as “a horseshoe can help you find your soulmate” and then methodically backs up his theory with a centuries-spanning narrative. In the case of the horseshoe, a blacksmith melted a bunch down to create an iron plow, which was then used by Australian outlaw Ned Kelly to create a makeshift suit of armor, which inspired the first feature-length silent film, which — well, we won't spoil the end for you, but the chain involves Hedy Lamarr, Nazis, Hawaii and online dating .

Three things you'll discover:  How excess sheep intestines impacted the history of football; which Hollywood monster movie inspired the invention of the pacemaker; why a chance encounter among three industrialists in a Western Pennsylvania inn saved whales from extinction

The hosts:   Flip or Flop  stars Tarek El Moussa and Christina Anstead

Watch it if you like:  Flipping houses and new beginnings

The concept:  After their divorce in 2018, the real-estate and renovation gurus continued jointly hosting  Flip or Flop , but the launch of Discovery+ has given them a unique opportunity to create their own individual shows. El Moussa's series follows his engagement to  Selling Sunset  star Heather Rae Young and his relationship with his daughter Taylor; Anstead's is about her new health and wellness goals and her own home redesign project.

Three things you'll discover:  How El Moussa's mom whips up a vegan version of the Crunchwrap Supreme; why Anstead swears by acupuncture; how they manage coparenting

The hosts:  Various

Watch it if you like:  History and fast cars

The concept:  Start your engines! This high-octane docuseries takes an inside look at some of the most famous figures in the automotive world, including racing icon Mario Andretti (80), NASCAR legend Junior Johnson and Bob Chandler (79), who created the world's first monster truck. Expect pulse-quickening archival footage and insight from talking heads who were there to experience these races and milestones firsthand.

Three things you'll discover:  How Andretti's time in a postwar refugee camp introduced him to auto racing; why the first monster truck earned the name “Bigfoot"; who discovered the revolutionary drafting technique in stock car racing

Say Yes to the Dress: In Sickness and In Health

The hosts:  Fashion designers Randy Fenoli, 57, and Hayley Paige

Watch it if you like:  Shopping, wedding gowns and hand sanitizer

The concept:  Chances are you might know someone who had to cancel or downsize a wedding during the past year. In this pandemic-era spinoff of the TLC hit, you'll see how New York City's Kleinfeld Bridal pulls off safe fittings (mandatory masks, plexiglass dividers and temperature checks), as our fashion experts help brides-to-be remotely using — what else! — video-chat software.

Three things you'll discover:  How the shop sanitizes dresses after fittings; which pop singer-songwriter performs (virtually) during one of the couples’ first dances; how the boutique is accommodating essential workers.

Their website States “Live TV from Discovery, TLC, Animal Planet + more”

I don’t see the words LIVE anywhere. For live, you need a live TV streaming subscription, cable or satellite.

Thank you! The video was very helpful..

I will continue to watch DP but believe I will be out of content after a month or two of binge watching, like Flea Market Flip, which I did on Saturday almost all night long and into the wee hours of the morning. I will probably drop off at the end of that second month after I have totally sat in my Barcalounger for multiple hours and a time while just letting the warm glow of light from Discovery Plus cable TV wash over myself.

When I watched the investor presentation, Discovery thinks the app can be *more* profitable than what they get from cable. That’ll take time. They definitely have some work to do.

I could see that from the onset. I just don’t need a rehash of shows we’ve already seen. I was also concerned about how long the subscription was. I didn’t like the satellite tv subscription that you could not get out of before the end of the subscription period (2 years), and i was concerned that this would be the same. If I don’t like it, do I have to wait a year to can Discovery+?

No it’s billed monthly. Cancel anytime

Thank you. That was my main question. This doesn’t sound terribly enticing to me. Certainly not as enticing as the plugs they are showing for the service. I have an Amazon Firestick and I am guessing I could watch Discovery+ on my TV via the stick, but I’m not 100% sure. I am older and I don’t want to watch any show on my iPad (or anything smaller).

I will never get Discovery + I researched and I want nothing to do with any thing Oprah owns including the networks she owns already these people are just plain greedy. They are what u call the rich get richer on poor people.

There are 2 reasons I’ll not be signing-up for Discovery+, or any other streaming services for that matter. I don’t own, and have no intention of buying, a Smart TV. 2) Why should I pay for re-runs. I pay for satellite tv and thus are already paying for re-runs, plus I get newest content. I’ve noticed many shows are shifting to Discovery+. Dr. Pimple Popper comes to mind. Does this mean that there will no onger be this show on TLC via satellite TV?

It will not take my debit card information stating it is the bank and the bank states it is not them. So I guess I will not be getting Discover +

Same for myself…. tried 3x to put in “correct” credit card details but, theyre cheap system wouldnt take my numbers claiming “invalid”…. so i went to netflix, hbomax & prime which are all far superior and these punks lost a customer forever. I plan on passing the word at work to steer clear of these nitwits.

Same here. I have had nothing but problems trying to just sign up, let alone watch anything. At first, they claimed I already had an account. I did not. Then, they claimed my log in info was incorrect. It was info that was auto-saved on the laptop I had been using. So, not incorrect info. Then, they claimed my banking info was incorrect. It was not. I tried with a couple of different emails but, no success. I also find their customer service to be absolutely pathetic to say the least. Just horrible and not really wanting to help. They just go through the motions. I will never make another attempt to sign up for this. I have told many others, and they said they refuse to ever try as well.

I cut the cord a few years back. I do have an antenna for local channels. I love love love PHILO because of the variety of shows for $14.99 a month, well worth the cost. I was and am sad however that the Discover + “ad” is always on every show I watch!! And like Tony, I too binge watch so if as Tony says….. my fave Ben’s workshop is short and Chip and Joanna Gaines has changed why spend the additional $5 or $7 a month? I will continue with PHILO. Thanks for this website after reading the various responses I now have my answers …….

So, answer the question from Marcia dated Feb 10, 2021 asking if Dr Pimple Popper will no longer be on TLC via satellite TV? Every time I talk to a Dish rep they can not give me an answer as to what programs have gone to DP and which ones stayed. Why can’t you give us a line up of what we no longer have on Dish that have gone over to DP. Someone should know. Plus y rate just went up by $5 just this month. Great service, she said with tongue in cheek.

Discovery Plus is the same price. Either 5 or 7 dollars. As for the shows, Discovery is “experimenting” what they’ll put on Discovery Plus vs. the networks like TLC. So there is no official word on whether that show will air new episodes back on TLC at some point.

Seems to me that Dr. PP is getting pretty full of herself…she started on YouTube and now apparently needs an exclusive format. This would be a GREAT time for a dynamic dermatologist to fill the slot that Dr. PP will be opening. I like her show, but not her attitude.

Honestly I think this is so wrong. It is my understanding that I will not be able to watch my shows because they are moving to DP. I am a huge Ghost Adventures fan and now will not be able to watch the show. I would have to spend a lot of money in order to do so. I am older and have no desire to watch my shows on a phone, laptop or I-pad. I pay a good bit of money each month to watch my programs on TV. This DP does not make sense to me. When I get home from working all day, want to relax and watch my favorite shows, I do not want to watch them on a freaking I-pad or phone. I want to enjoy TV with my family. Now there is some Rocket Scientist out there that wants to take that away.

Some shows are moving exclusively to Discovery+. I have extensive coverage on my YouTube channel, including instructions to watch Discovery Plus on your TV. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Iec4L6pmEMw

Maybe I’m looking at it simplisticly, but, I think the simple thing matters. Why pay more? It’s wrong to ask for more when the same shows are being handpicked by Discovery plus to include or NOT include on regular Cable. Cable used to be the bomb. You had to pay for it, but, it is worth it. Now, Cable subscriptions are like having old fashioned rabbit ears and antennas. Grumpy in NJ. Pat D.

Question: Anyone getting annoyed with needing to re-enter password and user name. It seems to me that if the TV is the same as we use ALL the time, it would be unnecessary! ANYONE??

I don’t have to do that. How often?

WRONG!!! It is the same GD show you don’t give two @#$%’s about and never even showed interest in. Rinse. Repeat. Someone. please tell me what I’m doing wrong. I was so excited about this…but it looks like I will be quitting Discovery+. I am so very disappointed. Sorry for the rant.

I got discovery + because they said that HGTV new show where going to be seen there, but all I see are old episodes and seasons, that I have already seen, property brothers nothing new, love it or list it nothing new, the first 48 nothing new and other shows that I watched on regular cable and TV, I still have to wait to see the new episodes, I thought there were already on the channel when I subscribed but all you have are old episodes and seasons. I really would like to see all those show you took from cable on time on discovery + thank you

After watching your video I have decided not to get it because it doesn’t offer anything I need. I am currently using Hulu basically for the live tv because I can’t seem to get any antennas to work for local news. With Hulu I get all my shows and live tv so I’ll stay with that at least for now. Thank you for the information I was looking for and helping me decide.

My impression is the same as Josette’s. Led to believe Discovery plus would get the new stuff! Wrong!!! I’m very disappointed in not only D+ but also CowboyChannelPlus! Saw plenty of reruns on Discovery before; now the same. I won’t even go into CC+! And how much is your newsletter going to cost if I subscribe to it. Thanks for the info.

My newsletter is free and I do not share your email with anyone.

I didn’t grow up with cable and don’t have it now and would only watch discovery in a hotel room randomly. So even if everything on there are re-runs, it’s all new to me! There are a bunch of shows I’ve always wanted to watch and never could! So for 5 bucks a month for stuff I’ve always wanted to watch since I was a kid, totally worth it! I’m looking forward to Mythbusters, How it’s Made, Forbidden Histories, and Dirty Jobs! Can’t wait!

Not sure what all the negativity here is all about! I heard about Discovery Plus months ago in the USA, and was thrilled to hear it was coming to Canada. I used to have cable but cancelled it last year due to the increasing prices. Since I cancelled cable I’ve lost touch with a lot of the shows on TLC, and so many more under the Discovery umbrella that I loved. For me this was a thrill to be able to watch all of them again! Everyone on here is complaining about reruns, however there are so many of us who haven’t watched each series and each have missed tons of episodes and want to re-watch the “old shows”. I think this will appeal to a lot of people who have gotten rid of cable, and want to binge watch a whole series.

I signed up for Discovery+ during their $0.99/month special because from the Discovery+ ads on HGTV I got the impression that there would be a lot of content on Discovery+ that wasn’t available on HGTV, such as Property Brothers, Boise Boys, Love it or List it, etc… Wrong! I found that the same shows and episodes are on both channels. So, not being interested in the other stuff on Discovery+, and not seeing any point in paying even $0.99 for something I already get for free, I cancelled.

I don’t see how anybody could not like Discovery+. Then there’s also “See No Evil” — the detectives are patiently scanning security-camera footage and a hospital has excellent coverage of a silver minivan they were wondering about, and the detectives get the license plate, and it’s owned by the person who sold the pawnshop to the murder victims! Who drives their family minivan to a murder? This man told the buyers of the pawnshop that he had a brain tumor and was making a quick sale, then he was stewing over it and decided they cheated him, and a year later or so went back and murdered them. They had made a big success of the business. He never had a brain tumor, just was deranged.

not too happy with this service. it has the same shows i’ve already seen and no new options. Why pay 6.99? i can watch reruns for free somewhere else. Had a lot of potential but i will be canceling after free trial. live tv option and access to new shows would have helped.

My biggest problem with Discovery Plus and any online service is not providing a delete my account option. The only option is to request it is by email. Once I’m aware of this limitation, I never do business with them again.

I binge watched all 5 seasons of “Celebrity Ghost Stories” on Discovery+ from beginning to end. I wanted to go back and review a couple of the earlier episodes, and was surprised to find that the “pick and choose” season and episode menu is no longer there, just the option to re-watch the two episodes of the final season. The same on Roku, Vizio Smartcast, Windows PC, so it’s not an app issue. Three times I contacted customer service, stated the issue, and got an enthusiastic response they will look into it and get back to me. Three times I never heard back, they “ghosted” me.

I have major buffering issues with Discovery+. I have several other streaming services and have no problem with buffering, it’s only Discovery+. It takes the enjoyment out of watching your favorite shows.

Joined cuz it showed on google that they have 90 day pilllow talk, The Ass hats only have 1 season and its season 7…. YAWN good thing it was a trial.. TLC GO wants you to bend over for your xfininity cable company and Upgrade your plan when it was already high to begin with. Stupid

(Latest) Since December, 2022, Discovery+ announced that users of the ad-free plan in the U.S. will be able to download content for offline viewing on the service’s iOS and Android apps. Or you can use the third-party tool like Kigo Discovery+ Video Downloader to download videos from Discovery+ on PC / Mac.

Does anyone find that all the shows are not up to date?
