October 2023 marks the fiftieth anniversary of the Yom Kippur War, a conflict that shaped the modern Middle East. The War was a trauma for Israel, a dangerous superpower showdown, and, following the oil embargo, a pivotal reordering of the global economic order. The Jewish State came shockingly close to defeat. After the war, Prime Minister Golda Meir resigned in disgrace, and a 9/11-style commission investigated the "debacle." But, argues Uri Kaufman, from the perspective of a half century, the War can be seen as a pivotal victory for Israel.

The Talmud says: “If someone comes to kill you, rise up and kill him first.” This instinct to take every measure, even the most aggressive, to defend the Jewish people is hardwired into Israel’s DNA. From the very beginning of its statehood in 1948, protecting the nation from harm has been the responsibility of its intelligence community and armed services, and there is one weapon in their vast arsenal that they have relied upon to thwart the most serious threats: Targeted assassinations have been used countless times, on enemies large and small....

A revelatory account of the cloak-and-dagger Israeli campaign to target the finances fueling terror organizations - an effort that became the blueprint for US efforts to combat threats like ISIS and drug cartels. ISIS boasted $2.4 billion of revenue in 2015, yet for too long the global war on terror overlooked financial warfare as an offensive strategy. "Harpoon", the creation of Mossad legend Meir Dagan, directed spies, soldiers, and attorneys to disrupt and destroy money pipelines and financial institutions that paid for the bloodshed.

In Israel and the West, it is called the Six Day War. In the Arab world, it is known as the June War or, simply, as "the Setback". Never has a conflict so short, unforeseen, and largely unwanted by both sides so transformed the world. The Yom Kippur War, the war in Lebanon, the Camp David accords, the controversy over Jerusalem and Jewish settlements in the West Bank, the intifada, and the rise of Palestinian terror are all part of the outcome of those six days.

On September 6, 2007, shortly after midnight, Israeli fighters advanced on Deir ez-Zour in Syria. Israel often flew into Syria as a warning to President Bashar al-Assad. But this time, there was no warning and no explanation. This was a covert operation, with one goal: to destroy a nuclear reactor being built by North Korea under a tight veil of secrecy in the Syrian desert. Shadow Strike tells, for the first time, the story of the espionage, military might and psychological warfare behind Israel’s operation to stop one of the greatest known acts of nuclear proliferation.

Publisher's summary
It was the deadliest terror campaign ever mounted against a nation in modern times: the al-Aqsa, or Second, Intifada. This is the untold story of how Israel fought back with an elite force of undercover operatives drawn from the nation's diverse backgrounds and ethnicities - and united in their ability to walk among the enemy as no one else dared.
Beginning in late 2000, as black smoke rose from burning tires and rioters threw rocks in the streets, Hamas, Islamic Jihad, and Arafat's Palestinian Authority embarked on a strategy of sending their terrorists to slip undetected into Israel's towns and cities to set the country ablaze, unleashing suicide attacks at bus stops, discos, pizzerias - wherever people gathered.
But Israel fielded some of the most capable and cunning special operations forces in the world. The Ya'mas, Israel National Police Border Guard undercover counterterrorist special operations units, became Israel's eyes-on-target response. Launched on intelligence provided by the Shin Bet, indigenous Arabic-speaking Dovrim, or "Speakers", operating in the West Bank, Jerusalem, and Gaza infiltrated the treacherous confines where the terrorists lived hidden in plain sight and set the stage for the intrepid tactical specialists who often found themselves under fire and outnumbered in their effort to apprehend those responsible for the carnage inside Israel. This is their compelling true story: a tale of daring and deception that could happen only in the powder keg of the modern Middle East.

Informative and eye opening
As a writer and historian I have to say that this is one of the most unvarnished and "Just the facts Ma'am" accounts of conflict I have ever had the privilege of delving into. The book does not try to spin or slant (a common problem these days) the violent and tragic conflict that has gone on for some three thousand years (going all the way back to Abraham) between Jews and Palestine. Much of what I term 'the Usual Bullshit' is not to be found in this account book as it tells you the facts and nothing but the facts of what is a very human tragedy on both sides. The depth of hatred and the determination to keep it going is mind blowing to a westerner like myself who cannot fathom what living every day of your life in fear of attack or counter attack must be like. The author does not try to take sides, nor does he ignore that there is loss and suffering on both sides, while I have no love for Islam or Muslims I am not blind to the fact that they are still human beings, a fact that is rarely accorded to the Jews or the families who are victimized on an almost daily basis by both the media and political leaders all over the world. If you are looking for a blow by blow account of real life terrorism and counter terrorism without all the political BS and commentary than I strongly recommend this book.

Enjoyed the series Frauda? You’ll enjoy this book
This book takes you to the front line and walks you through true life events involving Israel’s Boarder Police. The Boarder Police are comprised of individuals who can be sent into terrorist controlled communities, blend in with those communities, and capture or kill terrorist. There is a great tv series, “Frauda” that is a fictional version of this group. If you enjoy thrillers were the protagonist hunts down terrorist, this book details the real thing. Enjoy.
Compelling beyond
Fascinating backstory to the terrorism and israel’s fight against it. It made my memory of the events reawaken as if it happened today. Very compelling.

Heroism story that became boring
The story itself about the special Israeli force is a great story that was also on Netflix “fauda”. It is a great story but with no beginning and no end insights. Just bunch of events of two sides that keeps sending their most precious and brightest yet young into each other to check who is the bravest and who is the smartest. Not sure what would make the story better.

The rituals and pageantry of courtship in the 19th century can seem foreign to us today. Some of us may look back and see a more romantic age, while others will see a minefield of strict rules and stuffy protocol. Either way you look at it, it was worlds away from what dating is in the 21st century. In the six lessons of A Courtly History: Romance in the 19th Century , Professor Stephanie Insley Hershinow gives you a look at the complex and ever-evolving rules of romance in 19th-century Britain. Along the way, you will see why this fascinating era keeps drawing us back to novels and Netflix.

The ancient Toltecs believed that life, as we perceive it, is a dream. We each live in our own personal dream, and these come together to form the dream of the planet, or the world in which we live. Problems arise when our perception of the dream becomes clouded with negativity, drama, and judgment (of ourselves and others), because it's in these moments of suffering that we have forgotten that we are the architects of our own reality and we have the power to change our dream if we choose.

THE GHOST WARRIORS
Battle for the emperor’s skull.
by Bill Tippins ‧ RELEASE DATE: March 28, 2022
A lively, bracing tale that will kindle readers’ interest in the Paleolithic world.
In this middle-grade adventure sequel, a teen hero once again faces challenges as a war between two Paleolithic tribes threatens to resume.
Thirteen-year-old Tiogaof the Allegewi tribe is on a spirit quest. He attempts to connect with his ancestors’ spirits and his animal guardian, the eagle, while sitting beneath the Angel’s Arch formation above the Allegewi River. After the ritual, he’ll be considered a man and will continue life alongside Hanna, his girlfriend; and Kopi, his best friend and a shaman-in-training. But as Tioga sits patiently in his circle during a blizzard, an interloper stealthily approaches. Back at the tribe’s village, Hanna’s father, Chief Tundra, has fallen ill. When he dies, a new chief, Dudley, wants to move the village to a spot he believes to be more advantageous—the plateau below the Emperor’s Skull. Yet the land beneath the forbidding rock formation is sacred to the Dracul, a savage band of cannibals. Meanwhile, Tioga has been attacked by a mountain lion. He is miraculously taken in by the Gangas Witch, an older member of the Dracul who’s renounced their ways. She heals the teen and teaches him some natural concoctions to become a more cunning opponent. This is fortuitous because Shingas, the Mononga Devil, is again on the move. The two charismatic rivals, representing peace and oppression, are destined for a final confrontation. Like the series opener, Tippins’ bold, well-paced sequel combines history, drama, and action into a compelling brew. Tioga continues his transformation into a once-in-a-generation warrior when the Gangas Witch removes his deformed hand and replaces it with a strap-on mountain lion paw. Familial bonds are emphasized when Ötzi, Tioga’s grandfather, discusses “soul growth” with Candowsa, the boy’s mother. Ötzi wonders: “How would the forest look if we only had sunny days? There would be no forest—just a desert. Storms are to be expected and even welcomed.” Magic in the ancient world is portrayed as both carefully wrought illusions and sudden visions, like those Kopi experiences. The great threat of the Dracul looms in the background for most of the narrative, then emerges for an epic finale that sets up the next installment.

IF ONLY I HAD TOLD HER
by Laura Nowlin ‧ RELEASE DATE: Feb. 6, 2024
A heavy read about the harsh realities of tragedy and their effects on those left behind.
In this companion novel to 2013’s If He Had Been With Me , three characters tell their sides of the story.
Finn’s narrative starts three days before his death. He explores the progress of his unrequited love for best friend Autumn up until the day he finally expresses his feelings. Finn’s story ends with his tragic death, which leaves his close friends devastated, unmoored, and uncertain how to go on. Jack’s section follows, offering a heartbreaking look at what it’s like to live with grief. Jack works to overcome the anger he feels toward Sylvie, the girlfriend Finn was breaking up with when he died, and Autumn, the girl he was preparing to build his life around (but whom Jack believed wasn’t good enough for Finn). But when Jack sees how Autumn’s grief matches his own, it changes their understanding of one another. Autumn’s chapters trace her life without Finn as readers follow her struggles with mental health and balancing love and loss. Those who have read the earlier book will better connect with and feel for these characters, particularly since they’ll have a more well-rounded impression of Finn. The pain and anger is well written, and the novel highlights the most troublesome aspects of young adulthood: overconfidence sprinkled with heavy insecurities, fear-fueled decisions, bad communication, and brash judgments. Characters are cued white.

A GOOD GIRL'S GUIDE TO MURDER
From the good girl's guide to murder series , vol. 1.
by Holly Jackson ‧ RELEASE DATE: Feb. 4, 2020
A treat for mystery readers who enjoy being kept in suspense.
Everyone believes that Salil Singh killed his girlfriend, Andrea Bell, five years ago—except Pippa Fitz-Amobi.
Pip has known and liked Sal since childhood; he’d supported her when she was being bullied in middle school. For her senior capstone project, Pip researches the disappearance of former Fairview High student Andie, last seen on April 18, 2014, by her younger sister, Becca. The original investigation concluded with most of the evidence pointing to Sal, who was found dead in the woods, apparently by suicide. Andie’s body was never recovered, and Sal was assumed by most to be guilty of abduction and murder. Unable to ignore the gaps in the case, Pip sets out to prove Sal’s innocence, beginning with interviewing his younger brother, Ravi. With his help, Pip digs deeper, unveiling unsavory facts about Andie and the real reason Sal’s friends couldn’t provide him with an alibi. But someone is watching, and Pip may be in more danger than she realizes. Pip’s sleuthing is both impressive and accessible. Online articles about the case and interview transcripts are provided throughout, and Pip’s capstone logs offer insights into her thought processes as new evidence and suspects arise. Jackson’s debut is well-executed and surprises readers with a connective web of interesting characters and motives. Pip and Andie are white, and Sal is of Indian descent.

Ghost is the Warlord of the Savage Huns .
- 1 Description
- 2 Personality
- 3 In The Game
- 4 Fighting Ability
- 5 Appearances
Description [ ]
Ghost is a martial arts expert. Rather than a Chinese worker outfit, or martial arts uniform, like all other Huns, he is well dressed, donning a dark grey suit, with a red collar dress shirt underneath.
Ethnicity: Chinese-American
Personality [ ]
Ghost is never shown to speak, and he is described as very spiritual.
In The Game [ ]
In 1978, he fought Fox and Vermin during their attack on Chinatown, and was soundly beaten. It is later heard, from Vermin , that he killed Spider .
Fighting Ability [ ]
He is shown to be extremely powerful in Rumble Mode, tying with Cobb in terms of raw power. However, while Cobb has huge muscle mass, Ghost is all about cardio and skill. He counters grapple attacks very often, so it's best to use a strong grab attack to prevent being countered by him.
Like the typical brawler, he has Ajax 's raging finishing moves, with the 2-hit combo as his standard ground move. Strangely, the second punch from his ground combo deals no damage at all, which also happens with Cobb.
He uses the same power moves as the Shaolin monks - the tornado kick (standard and raging), with his secondary power move (X+O) being a foot-tripping attack, similar to Deke 's power move, or Fox and Rembrandt 's raging power move.
Appearances [ ]
- The Warriors (Game) - Scout's Honor
- The Warriors (Game) - Armies of the Night
- He shares his voice with Thurman and Apephibian .
- Ghost survives the fight with Fox and Vermin , even if he's finished off with a knife or rage attack. This is because of the scripted off-screen feud he has with Spider later on.
- The stark change of suit and training compared to the rank and file can indicate he may be a member of a legitimate Chinese Mafia.
- In Scout's Honor , when Sammy alerts him of The Warriors ' presence, Ghost spins on his chair to face him, despite it being an ordinary chair without wheels.
- In one of the game over dialogues from the DJ, she will mention something about Ghost keeping Vermin and Fox later alluding to their deaths by "checking the river", sort of indicating a darker take of Ghost.

The ghost of Golden State is starting to make some noise
S teph Curry’s high-arcing game-winner to sink the Phoenix Suns on Saturday night only strengthened his runaway case as The Association’s Most Clutch Player of the Year. An ensuing win over Utah on Monday positioned the Warriors back above the .500 mantle for the first time since Dec. 23.
The NFL’s single-elimination playoffs and NBA playoff marathon are different beasts, but Kansas City’s Super Bowl run exemplified how a degenerative roster with championship DNA can hit its stride at the right time. A decade ago, the San Antonio Spurs run hit a wall until Kawhi Leonard came into his own and Gregg Popovich’s chemistry unlocked two more Finals runs from Tony Parker, Manu Ginobili and Tim Duncan. The Golden State Warriors are currently still in play-in territory, but for the first time all season, their lineup isn’t in flux.
Transitions can be tumultuous and Golden State’s crumbling foundation has left them searching for answers. Through the championship years and the nadirs, you could always count on a healthy Warriors team playing their way into title contention. The first half of the Warriors 2023-24 campaign was a debacle and their weathered Big Three of Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green resembled classical art that belonged in a museum.
They still share the telepathy to predict exactly where teammates will be as they improvise off of a litany of screens, and exploit defenses off of movement, but their noteworthy contributions felt like they were in the past. Their plus-minus rating when on the floor together was even a net negative for the first time. Long and rangy rosters like the one in Oklahoma City more closely resemble the championship blueprints of the present day.
Throughout the decade, Steve Kerr has had to tinker to modernize the Warriors lineup. Finger painting Jordan Poole into the rotation, along with acquisitions by former general manager Bob Myers has usually been enough for Kerr to manifest a championship-caliber panorama. This season has seen him dip into some unfamiliar territory.
At midseason, Golden State was wobbly. So they countered by going small in a league that’s trending toward bigger lineups. Since Green was plugged in at center in late January, the Warriors have won eight of 11 and been only outscored by one in regulation during those three losses to the Los Angeles Lakers, Atlanta Hawks and Sacramento Kings. During that stretch , the Warriors have the NBA’s third-highest net rating, third-lowest defensive rating, fourth-best offensive rating and third-best rebounding rate.
Figuring out how to prevent Thompson from flickering in and out of his corporeal form in the Warriors starting lineup is still an ongoing headache, though. In the five games prior to his 26 points in a win over the Jazz, Thompson had generated 11 points per game in February, shot 40 percent from the field and less than 25 percent from behind the arc. Thompson’s history as the co-progenitor of the Warriors Golden Decade before Green joined the rotation under the Steve Kerr regime, has made his decline difficult to navigate. Since Thompson’s midseason conversation with Kerr and his revelation about coming to terms with basketball mortality and enjoying the ride, Thompson has hidden his frustration on the court, but not off of it.
Even if it hasn’t been reflected in the quality of his play, the trade deadline passing without Golden State pulling the trigger on a deal has quelled concerns within the Warriors’ confines. This week, Thompson also informed The Ringer’s Logan Murdock that he’s open to returning in a more limited role next season.
“I’ll be 35 next year. At 35, coming off the ACL and an Achilles [tear] and still have the ability to be a really good player. Maybe not the guy who scored 60 in three quarters and scored an NBA record 37 points in a quarter, but still a great threat out there. I’ve modeled my game after Reggie [Miller] and Ray [Allen], and those guys were incredibly effective until their late 30s. So I plan on kind of following that mold,” Thompson told Murdock.
For the first time this season, there’s stability in the Golden State HQ. Thompson’s enlightenment, coinciding with Green’s emotional reset after a lengthy suspension by the league, has helped alter the state of play, but Jonathan Kuminga’s ascent has the potential to be a game-changer.
Kuminga gave the Warriors a snapshot of his breakthrough by leading the league in scoring during the preseason, but once the regular season tipped off, he was banished back to the kiddie table. It took the 21-year-old shaking Kerr out of his neglect by leaking his displeasure with his usage under Kerr in January for the coaching staff to finally give Kuminga his own set of keys to the offense. The return on investment has been worth it.
Since Kuminga’s grievances went public, resulting in a 1-on-1 meeting with Kerr, Kuminga has been the Warriors second-leading scorer, averaging nearly 22 a night on a near 57-40-80 split . His agility and comfort shooting with a new and improved stroke has forced defenders to guard him more seriously when he squares up from distance and opens the floor up for him to gash closing defenders and finish at the rim. The shortlist of players averaging Kumingas’ splits and at least 15 points a night over the past six weeks includes Nikola Jokic, Kevin Durant, Jimmy Butler, Jalen Williams, Domantas Sabonis, and Evan Mobley.
There are still warts that need to be hammered out, but this is the sort of auspicious development that could convince Joe Lacob to stay the course and reconfigure instead of reconstruct. Kuminga is conceivably one more offseason away from becoming Golden State’s Kawhi analog.
Along with Kuminga’s rapid in-season evolution, rookie combo guard Brandin Podziemski has transitioned into a contributing role in the rotation much quicker than anyone imagined. Their Death Lineup is no longer the measuring stick by which teams gauge themselves against, but they’re turning the corner. As constructed, the shrinking Big Three are a long way from contention, but for the first time, they have the room for a growth spurt.

The ghost of Golden State is starting to make some noise
As the warriors creep back above .500, the question now is, how far can jonathan kuminga and steph curry take them.
Steph Curry’s high-arcing game-winner to sink the Phoenix Suns on Saturday night only strengthened his runaway case as The Association’s Most Clutch Player of the Year.
The hellverine returns: wolverine's flaming form is getting its own marvel comic.
Wolverine's Ghost Rider form, Hellverine, returns with a new solo series, bringing mayhem along with the Hellfire Warriors to the Marvel Universe.
- Wolverine's fiery alter ego, Hellverine, returns in a thrilling new solo series that promises to ignite both hell and comic stores alike.
- Fans who were captivated by the initial introduction of Hellverine needed more Ghost Rider Wolverine, and their wish has been granted with Benjamin Percy leading the charge.
- The debut of the all-new Hellfire Warriors adds an extra layer of excitement, as fans eagerly await to see if other Marvel heroes will adopt infernal forms.
Wolverine's fiery Ghost Rider alter ego, HELLVERINE, bursts back into Marvel comics with a thrilling new solo series that promises to ignite both hell and comic stores alike. But this isn't just a revival of Logan's demonic persona; it also introduces the formidable HELLFIRE WARRIORS to the fray, intensifying this infernal narrative.
Following an explosive debut in the Ghost Rider/Wolverine: Weapons Of Vengeance crossover, Hellverine blazes back onto the scene in writer Benjamin Percy’s and artist Julius Ohta’s Hellverine #1, slated for release on May 29, 2024.
This eagerly anticipated series, spanning four issues, is a direct response to the resounding demand from fans who were captivated by Percy's initial introduction of this incarnation of Logan in Wolverine #36 . The announcement of the solo series marks a significant victory for both long-time aficionados and prospective new fans of Hellverine as it heralds the return of Wolverine in his most metal form.
Hellverine, the Ghost Rider Wolverine, Returns With New Solo Series This May
Wolverine's transformation into the hellfire-infused Hellverine occurred when the demonic entity known as Bagra-ghul descended upon Earth, thrusting Logan and Ghost Rider Johnny Blaze into battle against malevolent forces. However, the situation took a turn when Bagra-ghul possessed Wolverine, giving him his Hellverine form . As Benjamin Percy and Julius Ohta embark on their new series, the pivotal question arises: How will Logan once again assume the mantle and powers of Hellverine, and what path will his hellfire-laden claws tread — one of righteousness or evil?
Logan reassuming the mantle of Hellverine promises to deliver a storyline that is not only entertaining but also undeniably badass, particularly with Percy leading the charge. Yet, what truly heightens the anticipation surrounding the return of Wolverine's fiery form is the exceptional artwork that awaits. With Ohta, renowned for his immensely talented contributions to the Venom and Alien runs, at the helm, there's no doubt that he will bring his A-game to this series, crafting some of the most captivating depictions of Hellverine to date.
Wolverine Unleashes His Ghost Rider Claws in Photo-Real Fanart
The “ hellfire warriors ” could be other marvel heroes getting hellfire forms.
While the anticipation surrounding Hellverine's return is undeniable, what truly amps up the excitement is the debut of the all-new Hellfire Warriors. Percy and Ohta have tantalizingly teased only the group name of these enigmatic characters, leaving fans eager for more details. Given Hellverine's hellfire-infused nature, it's plausible that the Hellfire Warriors may share a similar fiery essence, potentially comprising other Marvel heroes adopting infernal forms. Imagining characters like Storm embracing a hellfire incarnation of her powers and joining Wolverine adds an extra layer of badassery to the possible future of Hellverine.
Hellverine #1 is available May 29, 2024, from Marvel Comics!

Samuel Katz, an internationally recognized Middle East expert and bestselling author, creates a true tour de force with The Ghost Warriors. This is the untold story of how Israel fought back with an elite force of undercover operatives, drawn from the nation's diverse backgrounds and ethnicities--and united in their ability to walk among the enemy as no one else dared.
The Second Intifada is usually dated from September 2000 when Ariel Sharon visited the Temple Mount to the Sharm El Sheikh summit in February 2005.
