വായനയുടെ ആവശ്യകത ഗ്രാമങ്ങള്‍തോറും നടന്ന് പൊതുജനങ്ങളിലേക്ക് എത്തിച്ച വായനയുടെ വളര്‍ത്തച്ഛന്‍, കുട്ടനാട്ടിലെ നീലമ്പേരൂർ ഗ്രാമത്തിലെ പുതുവായില്‍ നാരായണപ്പണിക്കരുടെ നാമധേയത്തിലാണ് ജൂണ്‍ 19 ന് വായനാവാരാചരണം ആഘോഷിക്കുന്നത്.

മലയാള ഭാഷയുടെ പിതാവ് തുഞ്ചത്തു രാമാനുജന്‍ എഴുത്തച്ഛന്‍, മലയാള പത്രപ്രവര്‍ത്തനത്തിന്റ പിതാവ് ചെങ്കുളത്തു കുഞ്ഞിരാമമേനോന്‍... ഇങ്ങനെ നല്ല നല്ല പിതാക്കന്മാരുടെ പാതകളാണ് പി.എന്‍.പണിക്കര്‍ പിന്തുടർന്നത്. ഗ്രന്ഥശാലാ പ്രസ്ഥാനത്തിന്റ പിതാവായി അദ്ദേഹം അറിയപ്പെടുന്നു. 1995 ജൂണ്‍ 19 ന് അദ്ദേഹം ഈ ലോകത്തോട് വിടപറയുമ്പോള്‍ 6000 ൽ അധികം ഗ്രന്ഥശാലകള്‍ കേരളത്തിലെങ്ങും അദ്ദേഹം വഴി ഉടലെടുത്തു.

ജീവിക്കുന്നതിനേക്കാള്‍ അതിജീവിക്കാന്‍ പാടുപെടുന്ന കാലമാണിത്. അത്രമാത്രം കോവിഡ് മലയാളിയുടെ ജീവിതത്തെ മാറ്റിമറിച്ചു. വായനയും പുസ്തകവും നമുക്ക് മറ്റൊരു പുതുജീവിതം നൽകുമെന്ന് മനുഷ്യർ മനസ്സിലാക്കിയ ദിനങ്ങളാണ് ലോക്ഡൗൺ കാലമെന്ന് നിസംശ്ശയം പറയാം.

കേള്‍വിയിലൂടെ സാമൂഹികതയും സാംസ്‌കാരികതയും രൂപപ്പെടുത്തിയ നൂറ്റാണ്ടുകളുടെ കേരളീയ ജീവിതം വലിയൊരു വ്യതിയാനത്തിന് കാരണമാകുന്നത് അക്ഷരങ്ങളുടെയും വാക്കുകളുടെയും നിര്‍മിതിയോടെയാണ്. മതങ്ങളും സംസ്കാരങ്ങളും എഴുത്തുകാരുമൊക്കെ വായനയെ വളർച്ചയുടെ തലത്തിലേക്ക് കൊണ്ടു വന്നു. പുണ്യഗ്രന്ഥ പാരായണത്തില്‍നിന്ന് അറിവിലേക്കുള്ള വായനയെ ആധുനിക കേരളത്തിലെ മനുഷ്യർ പരിപോഷിപ്പിച്ചു.

ഓലയുടെ പാരായണങ്ങളില്‍നിന്ന് അച്ചടി അധിഷ്ഠിതമായ വായനയിലേക്കും അവിടെനിന്നു ഡിജിറ്റൽ വായനയിലേക്കും കേരള സമൂഹം മാറിയിടത്താണ് അറിയാത്ത ലോകങ്ങള്‍ മലയാളിയില്‍ ആവേശിച്ചതും ലോകബോധം നവീകരണത്തിന് വിധേയമായതും. ഇപ്പോഴിതാ കോവിഡ് മഹാമാരി നമ്മെയും നമ്മുടെ കുട്ടികളെയും അത്യാധുനികതയിലേക്ക് കൊണ്ടുവന്നിരിക്കുന്നു.

ഫെയ്സ്ബുക്കും വാട്ട്സാപ്പും ട്വിറ്ററും ഇൻസ്റ്റഗ്രാമും യൂട്യൂബും ടാബുകളും ഒക്കെയടങ്ങുന്ന കേരളീയ സൈബർലോകം വായനയുടെയും ചർച്ചകളുടെയും പുതിയ ലോകം സൃഷ്ടിക്കുകയാണ്. മാധ്യമങ്ങള്‍ മാറിയേക്കാമെങ്കിലും മനുഷ്യന്റെ വായിക്കാനുള്ള ആഗ്രഹം മാറുന്നില്ല. സ്മാർട്ട് ഫോണിൽ 16 മണിക്കൂർ വായിക്കാൻ യുവ തലമുറയ്‌ക്ക്‌ യാതൊരു മടിയുമില്ല. ആളുകൾ ദിവസത്തിന്റെ ഭൂരിഭാഗവും ഡിജിറ്റൽ മീഡിയയിൽ വായനയിൽ ആണ്.

എല്ലാ കാലത്തും ബൗദ്ധികലോകത്തെ മുന്നോട്ടു കൊണ്ടുപോയ പ്രധാനപ്പെട്ട മൂന്ന് കാര്യങ്ങള്‍ റോബോട്ടിക്‌സ്, ജനറ്റിക്‌സ്, വെര്‍ച്വല്‍ സോഷ്യലൈസേഷന്‍ എന്നിവയാണ്. ഈ മൂന്നു മേഖലകളിലെ സ്വാധീനം ലോകത്തെ അപ്പാടെ മാറ്റിമറിക്കുന്ന കാഴ്ച നമ്മെ അമ്പരപ്പിക്കുന്നു.

ഹൃദയാനുഭൂതികളുടെ ചേതോഹരമായ സൃഷ്ടിയാണ് മലയാള സാഹിത്യം. ഈ സാഹിത്യസൃഷ്ടികള്‍ ആത്മാവിന്റെ ആഴങ്ങളിലേക്ക് ഇറങ്ങിച്ചെല്ലുന്നതാണ്. ഒരു ദേശത്തിന്റ വളര്‍ച്ചയും സാമൂഹിക, സാംസ്‌കാരിക പുരോഗതിയും കൈവരിക്കുന്നത് ഇത്തരം സൃഷ്ടികള്‍ വായിക്കുന്നതിലൂടെയാണ്‌. നമ്മുടെ കേരളം അറിവു നേടിയിട്ടുള്ളത് ഇത്തരം വായനയിലൂടെയാണ്. 

ലോകത്തെ ചില പ്രശസ്ത വ്യക്തികളുടെ വായനശീലം നോക്കാം. വാറൻ ബഫറ്റ്‌ ഒരു ഇൻവെസ്റ്ററായി പേരെടുക്കുന്നതിനു മുമ്പ് ദിവസവും 500 പേജ് വായിച്ചു തീർക്കുമായിരുന്നു. ബിൽ ഗേറ്റ്സ് വർഷത്തിൽ 50 പുസ്തകങ്ങൾ വീതം വായിക്കുമായിരുന്നു. എലോൺ മസ്‌ക് റോക്കറ്റുണ്ടാക്കാൻ പഠിച്ചത് വായനയിലൂടെയാണ്. 2015 ൽ ഓരോ 2 ആഴ്ചയിലും ഒരു പുസ്തകം എങ്കിലും വായിക്കാൻ മാർക്ക് സക്കർബർഗിന് കഴിഞ്ഞിരുന്നു.

മനുഷ്യന്റെ  ഏറ്റവും പ്രധാനപ്പെട്ട ആന്തരികപ്രതിരോധമെന്ന നിലയിൽ വായനയുടെ പ്രയാണം തുടരുകയാണ്. ഇംഗ്ലിഷ് സാഹിത്യകാരനായ ക്രിസ്റ്റഫര്‍ മോര്‍ലി പറയുന്നത് ‘പുസ്തകങ്ങളില്ലാത്ത മുറി ആത്മാവില്ലാത്ത ശരീരം പോലെയാണെ’ന്നാണ്. അതെ, വായനയില്ലാത്ത ജീവിതം അതുപോലെതന്നെയാണ്.   

ഒരുപാട് വായിക്കുന്ന ആളുകൾ വിജയിക്കാൻ കൂടുതൽ സാധ്യതയുള്ളത് എന്തുകൊണ്ടാണ്? അവർക്ക് ഏകാഗ്രത ലഭിക്കുന്നു, അവർ ജീവിതത്തിൽ ലക്ഷ്യങ്ങൾ വയ്ക്കുന്നു, അവർ വിവേകപൂർവം സമയം ചെലവഴിക്കുന്നു, അവർക്ക് അവിശ്വസനീയമായ രീതിയിൽ എഴുതാനും സംസാരിക്കാനും ശേഷിയുണ്ട്, അവർ എപ്പോഴും പുതുമയുള്ള വ്യക്തികളുമായിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നതൊക്കെക്കൊണ്ടാണ്.

തലച്ചോറിനുള്ള വ്യായാമമാണ് വായന. ശാരീരിക വ്യായാമം പ്രമേഹത്തിന്റെയും ഹൃദ്രോഗത്തിന്റെയും സാധ്യത കുറയ്ക്കുന്നതുപോലെ, പതിവായി വായിക്കുന്നത് ഡിമെൻഷ്യ പോലുള്ള രോഗങ്ങളുടെ അപകടസാധ്യത കുറയ്ക്കുകയും മെമ്മറി, ഏകാഗ്രത, മാനസികാവസ്ഥ എന്നിവ മെച്ചപ്പെടുത്തുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നു. കോവിഡിന്റെ ഈ സമയങ്ങളിൽ വായന പ്രത്യേകിച്ചും പ്രസക്തമാണ്. ലോക്ഡൗൺ സമയത്ത് മാനസിക സന്തുലിതാവസ്ഥ നിലനിർത്താൻ മോട്ടിവേഷനൽ പുസ്തകങ്ങൾ വായിക്കുന്നത് പലരെയും സഹായിക്കുന്നു. 

മാനസികാരോഗ്യത്തിനായി പുസ്തകങ്ങൾ നിർദ്ദേശിക്കുന്ന രീതി ഒരുപക്ഷേ പുസ്തകങ്ങളെപ്പോലെത്തന്നെ പഴയതാണ്. പല പുരാതന ജ്ഞാന പാരമ്പര്യങ്ങളിലും ലോകത്തെക്കുറിച്ച് ആഴത്തിലുള്ള ഉൾക്കാഴ്ചകൾ നൽകാൻ കഥകൾ ഉപയോഗിച്ചു. ധാർമികത, ജീവിത പാഠങ്ങൾ, ജ്ഞാനം എന്നിവ പ്രചരിപ്പിക്കുന്നതിനുള്ള ശക്തമായ വാഹനങ്ങളായിരുന്നു ബൈബിൾ, സെൻ കഥകൾ, സൂഫി കഥകൾ, പഞ്ചതന്ത്ര കഥകൾ തുടങ്ങിയവ. നൂറ്റാണ്ടുകൾക്ക് ശേഷവും പുസ്തക വായന ഇന്നും പ്രസക്തമായി തുടരുന്നു.

കോവിഡും അനന്തരഫലമായ ലോക്ഡൗണുകളും സാമൂഹിക ഒറ്റപ്പെടലും മറ്റും രോഗികളെ വളരെയധികം ഏകാന്തതയിലേക്ക് തള്ളി വിടുന്നു. പക്ഷേ അവർക്ക് ആത്മപരിശോധന നടത്താനും ക്രിയേറ്റീവ് പ്രോജക്റ്റുകൾ ആരംഭിക്കാനും ഉള്ള ഒരു അവസരം കൂടിയാണിത്. 1665 ലെ പ്ലേഗ് സമയത്ത്, ഐസക് ന്യൂട്ടൺ ഒരു വർഷക്കാലം തന്റെ കുടുംബവീട്ടിലേക്ക് പിൻവാങ്ങി. ഗുരുത്വാകർഷണത്തെക്കുറിച്ചുള്ള, ലോകത്തെ മാറ്റിമറിക്കുന്ന ഉൾക്കാഴ്ചകളോടെ അദ്ദേഹം ഉയർന്നുവന്നുവെന്ന കാര്യം നാം വിസ്മരിക്കരുത്.

വായന കോവിഡ് -19 ന്റെ സമ്മർദ്ദത്തെ നേരിടാൻ സഹായിക്കുകയും ഈ അനിശ്ചിത കാലഘട്ടത്തിൽ സൃഷ്ടിപരമായ പരിഹാരങ്ങൾ നൽകുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നു. മഹാമാരി കാലത്തെ അതികഠിനമായ മരണദുഃഖങ്ങളെയും ദുസ്സഹമായ ഏകാന്തതകളെയും ഉത്കണ്ഠകകളെയും നൈരാശ്യങ്ങളെയും നമുക്ക് ശക്തവും സൃഷ്ടിപരവുമായ വായന കൊണ്ട് അകറ്റാം.

മാതൃഭാഷയെ അവഗണിക്കുന്നവര്‍ വാസ്തവത്തില്‍ നമ്മുടെ കുഞ്ഞുങ്ങളോട് അനീതി പുലര്‍ത്തുന്നു

മ ലയാള ഭാഷ വാസ്തവത്തില്‍ പ്രതിസന്ധിയിലാണോ? അതോ ഈ പ്രതിസന്ധി ചില ഭാഷാകാല്പനികരുടെ ഭാവന മാത്രമാണോ? എന്താണ് മാതൃഭാഷയുമായി ബന്ധപ്പെട്ട് ഉയര്‍ന്നിട്ടുള്ള ആശങ്കകള്‍? ആദ്യമേ പറയട്ടെ, പ്രതിസന്ധി മലയാള ഭാഷയ്ക്കല്ല, മലയാളിക്കാണ്. ആശങ്കകള്‍ മലയാളത്തെക്കുറിച്ചല്ല മലയാളിയെക്കുറിച്ചാണ്. ഒരു ജൈവഭാഷ എന്നനിലയ്ക്ക് ശബ്ദസമൃദ്ധിയിലും പദസമ്പത്തിലും ആവിഷ്‌കാരക്ഷമതയിലും മലയാളത്തിന് മറ്റേതൊരു ലോക ഭാഷയോടും സമശീര്‍ഷമായി നില്‍ക്കാനാവും. അത് ഇവിടെ വിവരിക്കുന്നില്ല; അത് പുതുതായി സമര്‍ഥിക്കേണ്ട ആവശ്യവുമില്ല. മലയാളത്തിന്റെ സുവിദിതമായ ഈ മികവ് ഒരു വസ്തുതയായിരിക്കേ, ഈ ഭാഷ മാതൃഭാഷയായിരിക്കേ, യുക്തിരഹിതമായ നിര്‍ബന്ധബുദ്ധിയോടെയും ബുദ്ധിശൂന്യമായ മുന്‍വിധികളോടെയും സ്വന്തം ഭാഷയില്‍നിന്ന് അകന്നുനില്‍ക്കുന്നവരെക്കുറിച്ചാണ് ആശങ്കകളും ആകുലതകളും.

ഇംഗ്ലീഷ് ഭാഷയോട് നമുക്കു തോന്നുന്ന ആദരവും ആ ഭാഷയുടെ സര്‍വാധിപത്യം അംഗീകരിക്കാനുള്ള വ്യഗ്രതയും ദീര്‍ഘകാലത്തെ കൊളോണിയല്‍ ഭരണത്തിന്റെ ഫലമായി സമൂഹമനസ്സില്‍ രൂപപ്പെട്ട വിധേയത്വമാണെന്ന വിലയിരുത്തല്‍ വ്യാപകമാണ്. ആ നിഗമനത്തിന് ചരിത്രപരമായ സാധൂകരണവുമുണ്ട്. എന്നാല്‍, സ്വാതന്ത്ര്യംനേടി എഴുപതുവര്‍ഷം കഴിഞ്ഞിട്ടും ബ്രിട്ടീഷ് ഭരണത്തിന്റെ ശേഷപത്രമാണ് ഈ മനോഭാവം എന്ന ആശയം വിചാരണ ചെയ്യപ്പെടാതിരുന്നുകൂടാ. മറ്റെന്തൊക്കെയോ പ്രേരണകളാണ് ഇംഗ്ലീഷ് വിധേയത്വത്തിനുപിന്നില്‍.

ഉപരിപ്ലവകരമായ ന്യൂനീകരണം

നവസാങ്കേതികവിദ്യയാല്‍ നയിക്കപ്പെടുന്ന ആധുനികലോകത്ത് മലയാള ഭാഷാപഠനംകൊണ്ട് പ്രയോജനമില്ലെന്നു വിശ്വസിക്കുന്നവരുടെ എണ്ണം നിസ്സാരമല്ല. ഇവിടെ 'പ്രയോജനം' എന്ന വാക്ക് സൂക്ഷ്മപരിശോധനയ്ക്കു വിധേയമാവണം. ഉന്നതവിദ്യാഭ്യാസം നേടുക, ജോലികിട്ടുക, വിദേശത്തു പോവുക എന്നിവയാണ് സാധാരണയായി വിവക്ഷിക്കപ്പെടുന്ന പ്രയോജനം. ഈ പറയുന്ന നേട്ടങ്ങള്‍ക്ക് ഇംഗ്ലീഷ് വിദ്യാഭ്യാസം അനിവാര്യമാണെന്ന ആശയം സമ്മതിച്ചുകൊടുത്താല്‍പ്പോലും മലയാളം പഠിക്കാതിരിക്കുന്നതുകൊണ്ട് നേടുന്ന അധിക പ്രയോജനം എന്താണെന്ന് അജ്ഞാതം. ഇംഗ്ലീഷ് പഠിക്കാന്‍ പാടില്ലെന്ന് ഒരു ഭാഷാസ്‌നേഹിയും പറയുന്നില്ലല്ലോ. പക്ഷേ, മാതൃഭാഷയറിഞ്ഞുകൂടാത്ത വിദ്യാസമ്പന്നനാകണമോ, മലയാളവും അറിയാം ഇംഗ്ലീഷും അറിയാം എന്ന് അവകാശപ്പെടാനാവുന്ന വിദ്യാസമ്പന്നനാകണമോ ? അതാണ് പ്രശ്‌നം. പ്രയോജനം എന്ന ആശയത്തെ തികച്ചും ഉപരിപ്ലവമായി ന്യൂനീകരിക്കുന്നതിന്റെ ഭവിഷ്യത്താണിത്.

അസമര്‍ഥരാവുന്ന കുട്ടികള്‍

ചെറിയ ക്‌ളാസുകള്‍മുതല്‍ മാതൃഭാഷയില്‍നിന്ന് അകറ്റപ്പെടുന്ന കുട്ടികള്‍, പാഠപുസ്തകങ്ങളില്‍നിന്ന് ആര്‍ജിക്കുന്ന അറിവുകള്‍ തങ്ങളുടെ ചുറ്റുപാടുകളുമായി ബന്ധപ്പെടുത്താന്‍ അസമര്‍ഥരായിത്തീരുന്നു. ആ അറിവുകളെല്ലാം അമൂര്‍ത്തമായി മാത്രം മനസ്സില്‍ ഇടംനേടുന്നു. പ്രായോഗികതലത്തില്‍ അവയ്ക്ക് സാംഗത്യമുള്ളതായി മനസ്സിലാക്കാതെ ഉയര്‍ന്ന ക്ലാസുകളിലേക്കു പോകുന്ന കുട്ടികള്‍ പരീക്ഷയില്‍ നല്ല മാര്‍ക്കുവാങ്ങി അവരുടെ സ്‌കൂളിനും അധ്യാപകര്‍ക്കും മാതാപിതാക്കള്‍ക്കും അഭിമാനം നല്‍കും. എന്നാല്‍, പരീക്ഷയുടെ അതിരുകള്‍ക്കപ്പുറത്തേക്കു പോകാനോ, പഠിച്ച വിഷയങ്ങളില്‍ ആസക്തരാകാനോ അന്വേഷകരാകാനോ പലപ്പോഴും കുട്ടികള്‍ക്ക് സാധിക്കാതെപോകുന്നു. ജീവിതവുമായി ബന്ധപ്പെടുത്തി ആശയങ്ങള്‍ ഗ്രഹിക്കുന്നതിനു അനിവാര്യമായ മാതൃഭാഷയുടെ മധ്യസ്ഥത കുട്ടിക്ക് ലഭിക്കുന്നില്ല. അങ്ങനെയുള്ള കുട്ടികള്‍ ജീവിതത്തില്‍ വിജയിക്കില്ലെന്നല്ല; അവര്‍ക്ക് മാതൃഭാഷയുടെ അനുഗ്രഹം കൂടിയുണ്ടായിരുന്നെങ്കില്‍ എത്തിപ്പെടുമായിരുന്ന ഔന്നത്യത്തിന്റെ പകുതിയോളംമാത്രമേ അവര്‍ എത്തുന്നുള്ളൂ.

നൊബേല്‍ സമ്മാനവും മറ്റ് ആഗോള അംഗീകാരങ്ങളും നമ്മുടെ സര്‍വകാലാശാലാ ഗവേഷണങ്ങളെത്തേടി വരാത്തതിന്റെ കാരണവും അറിവും ജീവിതവുമായി തുടക്കംമുതലേ നിലവില്‍വരുന്ന ഈ വിടവാണ്. ഇംഗ്ലണ്ടിലും ജപ്പാനിലും അമേരിക്കയിലും ഫ്രാന്‍സിലും ജര്‍മനിയിലും നിന്നൊക്കെ നൊബേല്‍ സമ്മാനജേതാക്കള്‍ എല്ലാവര്‍ഷവും ഉണ്ടാകുമ്പോള്‍ ഓര്‍ക്കേണ്ടത്, അവരൊക്കെ ഇംഗ്ലീഷില്‍ കാര്യങ്ങള്‍ ഗ്രഹിച്ചതുകൊണ്ടല്ല, അവരുടെ മാതൃഭാഷയില്‍ മനസ്സിലാക്കിയതുകൊണ്ടാണ് സാഹസികമായ ബൗദ്ധികാന്വേഷണങ്ങള്‍ ഏറ്റെടുക്കാന്‍ സജ്ജരാകുന്നത് എന്നതത്രേ.

നമ്മുടെ കുഞ്ഞുങ്ങള്‍ ലോകത്തിന്റെ ബൗദ്ധിക നേതൃത്വത്തിലേക്ക് ഉയരണമെങ്കില്‍ അറിവും അനുഭവവും തമ്മിലുള്ള അകലം ആരംഭംമുതല്‍ ഇല്ലാതാകണം. അതിനു മാതൃഭാഷയിലൂടെയല്ലാതെ സാധിക്കുകയില്ല എന്നത് തെളിയിക്കപ്പെട്ട സത്യം. 'പ്രയോജനം', എന്ന ആശയത്തെ ധീരമായി അപനിര്‍മിക്കാനും പുനര്‍നിര്‍വചിക്കാനും സമയം അതിക്രമിച്ചു. മാതൃഭാഷയെ അവഗണിക്കുന്നവര്‍ വാസ്തവത്തില്‍ നമ്മുടെ കുഞ്ഞുങ്ങളോട് അനീതി പുലര്‍ത്തുന്നു, സദുദ്ദേശ്യത്തോടെയാണെങ്കിലും.

മാതൃഭാഷ അറിയാത്ത ഒരു വിദ്യാര്‍ഥിക്ക് സംഭവിക്കുന്ന വൈജ്ഞാനികമായ അപൂര്‍ണതയെക്കുറിച്ചും അറിവിലെ വിടവുകളെക്കുറിച്ചും രക്ഷിതാക്കള്‍ തിരിച്ചറിയുന്നില്ല. യഥാര്‍ഥ പ്രയോജനത്തെയും നേട്ടത്തെയും താത്കാലികമായ നേട്ടത്തിനു മുന്നില്‍ അടിയറവെക്കുകയാണ് മലയാളത്തോടുള്ള അടിസ്ഥാനരഹിതമായ നമ്മുടെ താത്പര്യമില്ലായ്മ

എന്തുചെയ്യണം...

1 കേരളത്തിലെ ഒരു സ്ഥാപനവും പ്രീ പ്രൈമറി തലത്തില്‍ മലയാളം പഠിപ്പിക്കാതിരിക്കുന്നില്ലെന്ന് ഉറപ്പുവരുത്താനുള്ള നിയമമുണ്ടാവണം. (മറ്റു ഭാഷകള്‍ മാതൃഭാഷയായിട്ടുള്ള വിഭാഗങ്ങള്‍ ആ ഭാഷ പഠിക്കട്ടെ.) ഏതു മീഡിയത്തില്‍ കുട്ടികളെ പഠിപ്പിക്കണമെന്നു തീരുമാനിക്കാനുള്ള അവകാശം രക്ഷിതാക്കള്‍ക്കാണ് എന്ന ഒരു കോടതിവിധിയുടെ അടിസ്ഥാനത്തിലാണ് ഇവിടത്തെ 'ഇന്റര്‍നാഷണല്‍ സ്‌കൂളുകളും' പഞ്ചനക്ഷത്ര എല്‍.കെ.ജി.കളും മലയാളത്തെ പടിക്കുപുറത്തു നിര്‍ത്തിയിരിക്കുന്നത്. മാതൃഭാഷ പഠിപ്പിക്കരുതെന്നല്ല, ആ വിധിയുടെ താത്പര്യം. അങ്ങനെ ദുര്‍വ്യാഖ്യാനം ചെയ്യുന്നുണ്ട്. മാതൃഭാഷ പഠിക്കുന്നതിന്റെ ശാസ്ത്രീയത സംശയരഹിതമായി സ്ഥാപിക്കപ്പെട്ടിരിക്കേ അതു കുട്ടികള്‍ പഠിക്കണമെന്ന് നിഷ്‌കര്‍ഷിക്കുന്ന പുതിയൊരു നിയമം ഒരു കോടതിവിധിക്കും എതിരല്ല. അതു കോടതിയലക്ഷ്യം ആയിരിക്കുമെന്ന പ്രചാരണത്തിനു അടിത്തറയില്ല .

2 സ്റ്റേറ്റ് സിലബസായാലും സി.ബി.എസ്.ഇ. അല്ലെങ്കില്‍ ഐ.സി.എസ്.ഇ. ആയാലും പത്താം ക്ലാസുവരെയുള്ള പാഠ്യപദ്ധതിയില്‍, മലയാളം ഒരു വിഷയമായി കുട്ടികള്‍ പഠിക്കുകയും മലയാളകവിതയും കഥയും സാഹിത്യത്തിന്റെ മറ്റു ശാഖകളും പരിചയപ്പെടുകയും ചെയ്യുന്ന സാഹചര്യം ഉണ്ടാകണം. തമിഴ്‌നാട്ടില്‍ ഇതു കര്‍ശനമായി നടപ്പാക്കുന്നു. കേരളത്തിലെ ഒരു സി.ബി.എസ്.ഇ. സ്‌കൂളിനോട് ഇതു പറഞ്ഞാല്‍ എന്തോ വലിയൊരു ഭാരം കുട്ടികളുടെ തലയില്‍ കയറ്റിവെക്കുകയാണെന്ന ഭാവമായിരിക്കും. സ്‌കൂളിന്റെ ഔദാര്യമല്ല, കുട്ടിയുടെ ഭാവിയും സംസ്‌കാരവുമാണ് പ്രധാനം. എഴുത്തച്ഛനെന്നും കുഞ്ചന്‍ നമ്പ്യാരെന്നും സി.വി. രാമന്‍പിള്ളയെന്നും ചങ്ങമ്പുഴയെന്നും തകഴിയെന്നും ബഷീര്‍ എന്നുമൊക്കെ കേള്‍ക്കുമ്പോള്‍ 'Who are these guys?' എന്ന് വിദ്യാസമ്പന്നരായ നമ്മുടെ കുഞ്ഞുങ്ങള്‍ ചോദിക്കേണ്ടിവരുന്ന അവസ്ഥയിലെത്തിക്കുന്ന വിദ്യാഭ്യാസ വൈകല്യം ഇനിയും അനുവദിച്ചുകൊടുക്കാമോ? സര്‍ക്കാരിന് മാത്രമേ രക്ഷിക്കാനാവൂ.

3 ഔദ്യോഗികഭാഷ മലയാളമാക്കുന്നതിനും അത് ത്വരപ്പെടുത്തുന്നതിനും മാത്രമേ സര്‍ക്കാരില്‍ ഒരു വകുപ്പുള്ളൂ. മലയാളഭാഷയുടെ വികസനത്തിനും ലക്ഷ്യവേധിയായ പരിപാടികള്‍ ഏറ്റെടുക്കുന്നതിനും ഇന്ന് കേരളസര്‍ക്കാരില്‍ ഒരു 'മലയാള ഭാഷാ' വകുപ്പില്ല. ഭാഷയുമായി ബന്ധപ്പെട്ട പ്രശ്‌നങ്ങള്‍ ഉന്നയിക്കുമ്പോള്‍ അത് ഔദ്യോഗിക ഭാഷാവകുപ്പിലും വിദ്യാഭ്യാസ വകുപ്പിലും സാംസ്‌കാരികകാര്യ വകുപ്പിലും ഭരണപരിഷ്‌കാര വകുപ്പിലുമെല്ലാം ഭ്രമണം ചെയ്യാറാണ് പതിവ്. ഈ ഉടയനില്ലായ്മ സങ്കീര്‍ണമായ പ്രശ്‌നങ്ങളില്‍ ഫലപ്രദമായി ഇടപെടാന്‍ സര്‍ക്കാരിനുതന്നെ തടസമുണ്ടാക്കുന്നുണ്ട്. മറ്റുപല സംസ്ഥാനങ്ങളിലും ഭാഷയ്ക്കുവേണ്ടി പ്രത്യേകവകുപ്പുണ്ട്. ആദ്യത്തെ ഇ.എം.എസ്. മന്ത്രിസഭ നിയോഗിച്ച കോമാട്ടില്‍ അച്യുതമേനോന്‍ കമ്മിറ്റി പറഞ്ഞ പല കാര്യങ്ങളും ഇപ്പോഴും നടപ്പാകാത്തതില്‍ അദ്ഭുതമില്ല. കാലത്തിന്റെ ആവശ്യമായ ഒരു 'മലയാളഭാഷാവകുപ്പ്' ഇനിയും വൈകിക്കൂടാ.
