Young couple Malcolm (Marlon Wayans) and Kisha (Essence Atkins) have just moved into their dream home. As they settle in, they learn that they're not alone -- not because the house is haunted, but because Kisha is possessed by a demon. Desperate to salvage his relationship -- and more importantly -- his sex life -- Malcolm hires a coterie of paranormal specialists, which includes a priest and ghost busters, to banish the unwelcome intruder from Kisha's body.

Critic Reviews for A Haunted House
Audience reviews for a haunted house.
Ah whatever, I dug "A Haunted House" which had me chuckling a fair bit throughout the movie. Sue me.
A film so monotonous, so lazy, so underwhelming that it is only mildly tolerable because of its 'all-star' supporting cast, which consists of the likes of Nick Swardson, Cedric the Entertainer, J.B. Smoove, Andrew Daly and David Koechner. (Heavy sarcasm implied, hence the quotation marks.) Don't watch it with people you hold in high esteem unless those said people have an appreciation for fart/gay/masturbation jokes and (probably) inflicting both mental and physical pain upon themselves. I mean, seriously, just how bad must one film be in order for an appearance from Nick Swardson to be considered a redeeming quality?
A Haunted House to my surprise is one of the better horror spoofs I've seen since the first Scary Movie, and unless you have no sense of humor and a stick up your ass, then you'll probably find some humor in this film. I'm a pretty big fan of the Wayans brothers works and maybe that's why I'm one of the very few that actually had a fun time with this raunchy spoof and I think that there are far more worse films out there than this one. A Haunted House may not be a very clever spoof but most of the jokes were pretty hilarious if you like Reno 911! type of off the wall humor. It's a prime example that just because a movie has horrible reviews from just about every critic out there, doesn't necessarily mean that you won't enjoy it, because in the end that's all that matters. Bring on the sequel, because I could care less about the haters opinions. Marlon Wayans has made some pretty downright horrible films in the past like Dance Flick, Norbit, Dungeons and Dragons, and Marmaduke. This film though is one of his better comedic efforts at pure spoofing and his main and clear target is the Paranormal Activity series and he mostly gets the job done. He is an unapologetic and fearless comedic actor, who is willing to do anything for a laugh and I'm surprise that he hasn't hosted Saturday Night Live yet. Essence Atkins has great comedic timing and has great chemistry with Marlon Wayons and she makes a great comedic duo with him. The rest of the cast brought their game as well and were hilarious, including David Koechner as Dan the security man, Dave Sheridan as Bob his assistant, Nick Swardson as Chip the gay Psychic and Cedric the Entertainer as Father Williams, the list goes on. Director, Michael Tiddes makes his major film debut with A Haunted House, and though it's nowhere near an impressive one, it's not a horrible one either. He could of made more daring turns, but for a first time spoof he definitely picked the right guy to team up with. The writing, though far from clever, was consistently funny for the majority of the film and got the job done of making me laugh, thanks to writing team Marlon Wayons and Rick Alvarez. Overall, it was obvious that the filmmakers weren't going for a solid film, but they all seem to be having a blast spoofing the Paranormal Activity films and for that alone got the job done. Sure spoofs are getting old and should of been obsolete, but A Haunted House made me find the guilty pleasure in them all over again. For a film with so many bad reviews, I surprisingly had a pretty hysterical time watching A Haunted House and might actually watch its sequel in theaters.
It is what you should expect.

A Horror Movie Parody

If the opening gag in your R-rated movie is an extended flatulence joke you should reconsider whether you’re qualified to make such a movie. Not that flatulence jokes aren’t funny; 8-year-olds love them. The thing is, not many 8-year-olds go to R-rated movies.
The film in question is “A Haunted House,” a crass and clumsy attempt to parody the genre of horror movies built on hand-held camera work and supposedly found footage of paranormal goings-on. The film stars Marlon Wayans and Essence Atkins as Malcolm and Kisha, a couple who have decided to move in together. It turns out that in addition to rather a lot of belongings, Kisha inadvertently brings along a demon.
There is actually a workable idea at the heart of this mess: the demon as a metaphor for the trepidation that a footloose guy might feel upon committing to cohabitation and monogamy. But the writers (Mr. Wayans and Rick Alvarez) and director (Mike Tiddes) don’t have nearly the wit or subtle touch necessary to take advantage of it.
The movie turns briefly amusing when Cedric the Entertainer shows up as a dubiously qualified priest who has been invited to perform an exorcism. Mostly, though, it’s a string of the kind of crude, sometimes offensive gags that are probably a lot funnier during the filming process than they are on the screen.
“A Haunted House” is rated R (Under 17 requires accompanying parent or adult guardian). It has brief nudity and nonstop crudity.

Rotten Tomatoes® Score
The writing from Wayans and his collaborators is lazy, derivative and never fails to go for the easiest - and usually most base - punchline.
Neither worthy of my laughter nor capable of inducing sleep. No, this is one of those rare films where its badness turns the cogs of your brain.
A Haunted House is technically inept, monotonous, and stiflingly cheap-looking. How this cost $2.5 million dollars to produce is beyond me.
Too banal to be offensive, it's certainly one to miss
Frustratingly, there's actually talent on-screen that hints at what could have been a cleverly comical take on the found-footage genre.
Heck, worse films starring Robert De Niro have been released this year.
There's just an odd recurrence of homophobic humor in the entire movie that compensates for lack of actual humor.
This send up of the Paranormal Activity films provides a few laughs here and there, but for the most part its crude and clichd script is ridiculously stupid, embarrassingly over the top and occasionally offensive.
This Haunted House needs a KEEP OUT sign nailed to the door.
Just another in a long line of mercilessly unfunny spoofs.

A Haunted House Official Trailer 1 (2013) - Marlon Wayans Movie HD
A Haunted House Official Trailer #1 (2013)
Poster of A Haunted House
A Haunted House is a 2013 American spoof comedy film directed by Michael Tiddes and starring Marlon Wayans . It was released on January 11, 2013. The film is a parody of the "found footage" genre, such as the Paranormal Activity franchise and The Devil Inside.
During interviews to promote the film, Wayans explained "it's not exactly a parody" but rather a movie with funny characters doing the opposite of what typical white people do in similar horror films.
Plot Synopsis [ ]
The movie begins with the opening text stating that in October 2012, the footage was found at the home of Malcolm Johnson and that the whereabouts are still unexplained.
In August 2012, a young couple, Malcolm ( Marlon Wayans ) and Kisha (Essence Atkins), move in together to start a new happy life. On the first night, Malcolm is waken by Kisha's noisy flatulating that drives him out of the room. When Kisha notices her keys on the floor she tries to tell Malcolm that they might have a ghost. To prove to Kisha that they do not have a ghost Malcolm calls over some camera men, Dan the man Curnney (David Koechner) and his brother Bob (Dave Sheridan). On the second night Malcolm tries to have sex with the camera on, but Kisha tells him to turn it off. Before they really started, Malcolm turns the camera back on and records the whole thing. In the morning Malcolm and Kisha watch the video and notice that the door moved. Malcolm tries to convince Kisha that it had something to do with the vortex in which he moved his hips during sex last night.
The next night, Malcolm notices the paranormal activity and tries to move out of the house and leave Kisha. Since he could not sell his house in the current market, they call a psychic (Nick Swardson) over to check the house. As soon as Chip, the psychic, meets Malcolm he begins to fall in love with him. Before Chip can leave, after finding nothing wrong, Kisha confesses to making a deal with the devil for a pair of shoes. Chip tells Kisha that she is screwed and tries to invite Malcolm to a wrestling match with five guys. After Chip leaves, Kisha shows Malcolm a video of her eighth birthday in which she began to experience paranormal activity by her imaginary friend, Tony. On the next night, Kisha awakens in the middle of the night and stands next to the bed for a couple of hours until she begins to randomly dance for another hour and slaps Malcolm's face to awaken him. Malcolm wakes up and follows Kisha to the kitchen where he catches her eating uncooked food and drinking old milk. Kisha tells him that she's going to the store, but Malcolm tries to get her back to bed until she starts screaming crazily. In the morning, Kisha does not remember a thing from the prior night.
On another night, Kisha hears something and tells Malcolm to check it. But instead of a ghost it turns out to be Rosa (Marlene Forte), his Hispanic housekeeper, Rosa quits and Malcolm and Kisha smoke with the ghost to relieve their pain. The next day Malcolm's friend Steve and his wife Jenny bring an ouija board to communicate with the ghost. When they ask if it was a ghost or a demon, it responded with misspelling, calling itself a gost. Everyone began to laugh and make fun of it until the ghost throws the ouija board across the room, scaring Jenny and Steve out of the house. That night, the ghost drags Malcolm out of the room and has sex with Kisha. The next day Malcolm finds out and calls his cousin Ray Ray (Affion Crockett). That same night, Kisha waits for the ghost until it gets late and leaves. After Kisha leaves, the ghost rapes Malcolm.
The next day Malcolm and Kisha make the ghost mad by not getting scared of what it does, leaving him to attack Kisha in the night while Malcolm listens to music on his computer. In the morning, Malcolm notices something's wrong with Kisha and calls Father Doug (Cedric the Entertainer) to do an exorcism. When it does not work (the ghost gives out clues of its plan) Malcolm calls Dan and Bobby to help. Chip also rushes into the house to help. During the exorcism, Kisha escapes and goes into the living room. Before Malcolm and Doug find her, Doug accidentally shoots Rosa, who had come to pick up her last check, and kills her. When they all meet in the living room, Kisha behaves very strangely and escapes to the basement. The group follows and finds her crying in a corner. When Malcolm reaches for her, she begins to attack him and the whole group begins to beat her up, apparently forcing the ghost out of her body.
The next night, Malcolm and Kisha have sex with the camera on for about 3 hours. In the middle of the night, Kisha wakes up and stand next to the bed for a few hours before walking out of the room and making a big crash and screaming Malcolm's name for him to investigate. When Malcolm comes out of his room, Kisha throws him back and he hits the camera, knocking him out. When Kisha enters the room her shirt is bloody. She crawls to Malcolm and sniffs his body until he farts in her face. As Kisha lunges at the camera, her face takes on a demonic appearance. Then, the title of the movie appears.
In a post credits scene, Malcolm wakes up and celebrates that he lived until Kisha comes back in and drags him into darkness, as Malcolm screams.

Here’s How an Eddie Murphy Joke Inspired Jordan Peele’s ‘Get Out’ Ahead of Marlon Wayans’ Role In ‘GOAT’
Posted: January 18, 2024 | Last updated: January 18, 2024
Many fans may not realize that Jordan Peele ‘s classic horror film “Get Out” was inspired by an old Eddie Murphy joke. The title of the film was taken directly from Murphy’s 1983 stand-up comedy special “Delirious.”
Peele’s movie is a classic horror film about a Black man who learns his white girlfriend and her liberal family are not who they portray themselves to be during a weekend getaway.
In “Delirious,” Murphy jokes about the supernatural thrillers “Poltergeist” and “The Amityville Horror.” The comedian made fun of white folks for not leaving the house upon learning it was haunted by a ghost. Murphy joked in the special that all it would take for Black folks to flee a haunted home were the words “Get Out” from the ghost.
Peele admitted during an interview with “Entertainment Tonight” back in 2017 that the title of his film was taken directly from Murphy’s “get out” joke. He said the film addressed the fact that racism is still alive and well, despite assumptions otherwise once Barack Obama was elected the year before. Peele shared that he also drew on inspiration from his own life, including when he met his former white girlfriend’s family.
“The story came from this, this period we were in in the Obama administration when we were in this, this post-racial lie on race is over,” he said . “We got a Black president. Let’s not talk about it anymore.”
He continued, “There was a situation that did kind of spark a piece of this which where I was dating a white girl and I had to ask that question, like, ‘If we’re gonna meet your parents, do they know I’m Black?’ and she was like, ‘No.’ And then, going and meeting the parents, and I don’t know if she told them or if she didn’t, but there was there was no reaction, and that in itself was this creepy moment.”
Peele added that moments like meeting his white ex-girlfriend’s parents were “subtle reminders” of the racism that Black people still deal with in society and about “identifying hints.”
He subtly touched on the same subject in his 2019 film “Us,” another one of his horror films that came before 2022’s “Nope.”
Peele’s new film, “GOAT” is also a psychological horror starring actor and comedian Marlon Wayans . The movie is about an athlete who trains with a sports team’s retiring star, played by Wayans. The film is currently in the production stages, and the 51-year-old appears to be excited about his new role after sharing the news on Instagram.
